IPhoto crashing on rMBP when viewing photo book

Every single time I view a photo book and do anything (scroll through the pages, click options, enter/exit fullscreen mode, etc.), iPhoto crashes on me within a few seconds.  I'm using a brand new retina MacBook Pro.  The same library works on my old MacBook Pro and I have tried copying it over again.  Here is the beginning of the crash report, plus thread 25 (since it looks like that crashed).  Any ideas?

  • IPhoto crashes after added map to photo book

    Hi,
I have been creating a photo book in iPhoto (the current version) which I've spent a fair bit of time working on and customising over the last couple of weeks. I had pretty much completed this book when I decided to add a map to one of the pages (the bright green map). It added ok, but when I went to scale it to zoom out a bit it kept crashing iPhoto. I instead tried choosing one of the other themed maps and zoomed out to the distance I wanted. I then thought I would try go back to the bright green map to see if it would work now, it didn't and iPhoto crashed. Now, every time I open iPhoto and click on my photo book it crashes iPhoto without loading the book at all. I can't access or edit the photo book since making this change to the map.
Any support would be greatly appreciated as I've put a fair bit of time into this photo book and am hoping I haven't lost this for good. Even if I am able to just get the page layouts back if possible would be great.
    Thanks!
    Dan

One of the map layouts is causing these crashes. The problem is, that you cannot remove the map, since you cannot open the book for editing.
    See this discussion
iPhoto crashing one specific Book Project
Your only hope to save your book is, to restore your iPhoto library from the most recent Time Machine backup you made, before you added the map.
Otherwise delete the book to make the library usable again and start over. You can probably not select the book in the source list to delete it. create two more empty books and drag them directly before and after the broken book. Then select the range of all three books and delete them.

  • Iphoto 11 spinning balls when viewing photos

Hi - We're pretty frustrated so seeking help here as iPhoto support via Apple Care has not offered a solution to our issue. We have late 2012 iMac 8mb RAM with 3.2 (or 3.4) processor.
    We have 3 Nikon cameras; D80, D300S, D800.
    The D800 is the newest.
Uploading from cameras into iPhoto works perfectly.
However, when viewing a particular Album that contains photos from all 3 cameras, we get spinning ball and have to wait for up to 30 seconds to go from one photo to another
The spinning ball is random BUT doesn't happen on D80 or D300S photos. Only happens on D800 photos, which makes us wonder if there is a bug in iPhoto. The D800 is supported in iPhoto.
More info: The size of the photo doesn't seem to matter, as this can happen when one is going from a large MB photo to a small one, and visa versa. It doesn't hang on particular photos, but seems to be random.
The D800 is a 35 megapixel camera if that info helps at all. The other cameras are much lower megapixels.
I don't know enough about computers to solve this myself, but iphoto support has not found the problem. I think it's a lot simplier than we think but don't know what to do next.
Apple Care iPhone support had us repair the library and even make a new iPhoto library but we got the same issue.
The album with the issue contains 173 photos, so of which are HDR. It is not getting stuck on HDR photos, but sometimes it can. Like I said, it's random.
When we put that same album into Elements12, there was no issue of spinning balls, so I also wonder if it's the size of the entire library that has something to do with this issue. (the iPhono Library contains 5,000 photos. Support confirmed that there is plenty of free memory so that is not the issue either, but we are going to have the 8mb upgraded to 16MB anyway but we don't believe this will solve anything at this point.
We really wanted to buy Aperture but wonder if we need to resolve this issue in iPhoto first....Thank you  & I hope I provided enough info. I tried...-Lynn

Yes, occurs in both RAW & JPEG
Here's what we learned today: when we call up the Album in question (but does happen in other albums but trying to stick with just one for now) it is now confirmed that it's only happening with D800 photos, but doesn't matter the size of photo or whether Jpeg or Raw. Can be either/or.
BUT, once we go thru the entire album of 174 photos, the time lag is gone the second time we view the photos. (no spinning balls & can scroll rapidly thru entire album) Wouldn't this suggest not a camera issue?
If we close out of iPhoto and go back into iPhoto and to that same album, we get the spinning ball delay between some of the D800 photos as before, but also confirm that it doesn't hang up on same photos each time but hangs only on D800 photos.
One more thing that may mean nothing - The abum has 174 photos. The first 100 or so photos were shot with the D80, the next group are D300s, and the last bunch (from photo #145 to 174) are D800, so the hanging doesn't begin until #145, but might not hang until photo 150. It's random, and different each time the album is opened AFTER iPhoto is closed & re-opened. As long as the album remains opened we can even go to other albums & go back to that album & all is still fine. It's just the intial opening of iPhoto each time.
This particular album IS a "rated" album so it has that cog wheel on the album file. Because it contains all photos that my husband rated as "3-star photos", I thought maybe the "smartness" could be the issue, but he has other albums with D800 photos that aren't rated & those photos can also hang...
Hubby has gone out to shoot post-blizzard photos & we'll do as you suggested upon his return & make new iPhoto library! Thanks! Will report back!

  • IPhoto crashes my system when uploading photos to Facebook any help?

I can upload a few photos (getting errors) they still post when you check facebook, but after a few photos the entire system crashes and restarts, happend 3x now and i give up... posted in another forum (got kicked out to iPhoto boad lol) and so here I am again, anyone know whats up with this? im on Lion w/ all iPhoto updates installed.... i posted the crash report on my other post.. but was told dont post it until asked... so if you need it let me know...or if you know what might be causing it?

I found this fix posted by Paul Griffin:

Re: My iPhoto will not longer let me hit the Facebook icon and immediately post to Facebook.  Now it says, "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?"  which you still can't do.  What gives?
Dec 30, 2012 7:26 PM (in response to laurafromhamilton)
Just solved it here after an hour+ of experimenting.
    Try this:
    • When you get prompted "Do you want to set up iPhoto of post to Facebook?" confirm and it will bring up your regular Facebook home page in asmall viewer window.
    • Go up to the upper right corner of the Facebook page and log out, then hit the "Close" button at the bottom of the small viewer window.
    • You'll probably get the same "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?" prompt again. This time hit Cancel
    • Now try to share your pictures to Facebook again.  You'll get the "Do you want to set up iPhoto to publish to Facebook?" message again. Do it and this time hopefully you should get a prompt to login to your Facebook account. Enter your Facebook name and password. This should reset your connection.
    • If successful you should get a prompt from Facebook that you can close the page. Close it and fingers crossed, all should work again. That's what worked for me.
See if it will work for you.

  • Iphoto shuts down when uploading photo book

Since upgrading iPhoto to v11 I cannot buy photo books.  Have created a photo book but when uploading iPhoto unexpectedly shuts down.  It always occurs at page 48 of 50.  I have tried hard cover, soft cover and wire but same result each time.  frustrating given the time spent creating the book.

    TD
Thanks for advice.  I had to completely reconstruct the book but it is now uploaded.
This has presented a new problem for me.  I have just found out that my credit card has been charged 8 times for the book, a charge for every failed attempt.  hopefully these will be credited back quickly.  Have others suffered the same and was it rectified quickly.

  • ICloud keeps crashing my iPads when using photo stream

iCloud keeps crashing my iPad when using photo stream, photo stream has downloaded over 600 .png files to my photo stream which are mac icons - these are causing all 3 iPads on iCloud to crash and report .panic.plist error messages. Help? I have turned off iCloud for now which allows the iPad to work.these icons were on my iMac too on iphoto which I have deleted and on our iPhones again which I have deleted. Would like to use iCloud but not until I can fix this issue.

    Hi elizabethfromfernhurst,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are getting the .panic.plist alerts on your iPad when using iCloud, I would suggest restoring the iPad back to its factory settings and using iCloud to sync your data back to the device.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • When buying photo book operation stops at processing stage with msg unable to connect try again

Help please  When buying photo book operation stops at processing stage with msg..unable to connect...try again...been trying again over 2 days. any sugestions appreciated

I (quite honestly) am one of those folks that generally do not read the KB articles associated with a patch or UR or SP - as you don't expect details like have been put into this particular one.
But as Kristian pointed out - within that KB article is the SQL script that modifies / updates this SQL Stored Procedure.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2014/01/29/how-to-update-scvmm-2012-r2-to-update-rollup-1.aspx
Needless to say, the feedback was given to MSFT that folks would overlook that this SQL script needed to be run.  So we are just trying to help out.

  • X2-00 spontaneous switch off when viewing photos

My daughter uses a X2-00 since about half a year. From time to time when viewing photos she made with the phone, the phone spontaneously switches off and restarts. Restart is without problem, but should not occur at all. An update to the latest software version did not resolve the issue. It's still the same photos that cause a restart.
Any ideas what might cause this issue?

Remove the battery for a couple of minutes..Insert and see if the phone switches ON..
If not, Confirm that the battery is charged.. Leave on charging for 10-15 minutes and then try switching ON while charger is connected..
If problem remains, you need to visit Nokia Care..

  • IPhoto 08 crashes when viewing photos

    Hi,
I'm using iPhoto O8. I have about 4000 photos in the library. I'm using this on an intel iMac.
All has been working fine. However, it has now decided to crash if I try to view a photo. The programme will open fine and I can see the thumbnails for the events and the thumbnails for the photos. However if I then double click a photo it crashes.
I've tried deleting the preferences file (within users>library>preferences> etc.
I've also tried rebuilding the iPhoto library (alt+apple held whilst starting iPhoto)...
However, when I tried rebuilding the library (first three options selected) the rebuild also crashes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Edward

Download iPhoto LibraryManager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and use its rebuild function - this creates a new rebuild library leaving your existing library alone so if it does not fix things you still have exactly what you had before to work on

  • Quicklook (column view) crashing finder when viewing photos

My Finder is freezing when I am viewing photos in the column view.  It works fine in list, cover flow, and thumbnail.  Any ideas as to why the column view quicklook might be causing it to freeze?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the easy fix first: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.

  • IPhoto only shows one photo (first one) when making Photo Book?

I clicked the + to add the album, I chose the "Book" option, but it only lets me use the first photo in the album.  The other 60  photos aren't in the view bar above.  How do I get all of the photos to appear so that I can arrange the photo book, or do Autoflow?
Also, what am I missing that I used to be able to see thumbnails and I can only see that in Full Screen now?
    thanks-

Try selectihng all of the photos in the album instead of just clicking on the album and dragging them onto the book icon.  That will add the photos to the book.  You can do the same with any photos in the library: just drag a photo onto the book icon to add the photo to the book.

  • Constant crashing while trying to assemble photo book!

I've used iPhoto for a long time without a hitch. But my first time trying to create a photo book ended in a crash, when I was nearly finished arranging the photos. Then it happened again, when I was nearly finished. Now it's just crashing immediately after I try to move one picture. This is iPhoto 5.0.4, by the way.
I want to make a book!! I tried trashing the preferences and am at a loss as what to do. I'm up-to-date system-wise. I haven't had anything crash in ages, so this threw me. It sounds like others have experienced crashes at various points too. Ideas on what to try?

    Patricia:
You may have to do some general system maintenance and do a rebuilt on the iPhoto library. I suggest your run OnyX and clean out all of the User caches. Also run the cron maintenance routines with OnyX. Then do a repair of permissions with Disk Utility and manually set the ownership and permissions on the iPhoto Library folder as follows.
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
If that doesn't help rebuild the library by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. I'd select the first three options.

  • Question: iphoto crashes with importing iphone 5 photos

Question: If I import photos from my iPhone5 iPhoto will crash. When I restart and reopen iPhoto I am told X number of photos did not import do I wish to reimport or disregard. If I try to reimport it will crash again.
    I have an imac;
    2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    MacOsX 10.7.5.
    iPhoto 11 version 9.4.3 (720.91)
I have tried rebuilding the iPhoto database but it still crashes.
I have created a new test library just to try importing the photos from my iPhone, that works.
I have also reinstall my iphoto but it still crashes.
I have the latest crash log showing iPhoto crashing, I can upload parts of these if people tell me which parts are useful.
    Please, help me.

I have created a new test library just to try importing the photos from my iPhone, that works.
That indicates that your original library is the culprit and needs to be repaired.  Since you tried repairing it with iPhoto try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
