IPhoto cropping exports

I'm having a rather annoying issue with iPhoto, where certain photos are cropping to a very strange dimension when I export them. It doesn't affect all images, just some. They're not cropped in iPhoto, so I'm confused as to how this could happen. If I drag the individual photo out to my desktop, it exports fine, but the moment I select a bunch of photos at the same time it happens again. As such, it makes it highly annoying... I need to burn these photos off for a family member.
It happens in iPhoto on both my computer and my girlfriend's, as well as in Aperture.
For example, here's an original:
What iPhoto (and Aperture) produces with an export:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What version of iPhoto? And the OS?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result

  • IPhoto crops landscape aspect movies to portrait aspect during iPhone Camera import

iPhoto cropped a series of 1920 x 1080 (landscape) to 720 x 1080 (portrait) movies shot in the iPhone Camera upon import during an iPhone sync. The movies were shot in portrait on the iPhone using the Apple iOS Camera app. Other videos taken on a different day were imported correctly. The cropped videos are not cropped on the iphone.
I am using iPhoto 9.3.2 with OS X Moutain Lion.
Exporting from iPhoto does not restore the videos to their original aspect nor does opening them in Quicktime Player.
    Help!

    How did this:
The movies were shot in portrait on the iPhone using the Apple iOS Camera app
    become this
    a series of 1920 x 1080 (landscape)

  • When I try to print a drawing imported from my ipad iphoto crops it. Is there any way to stop this?

When I try to print a drawing imported from my ipad iphoto crops it. Is there any way to stop this?

Usual cause: printing at the wrong aspect ratio for the image - trying to print 5 x 3 in the shape of a 6 x 4 for instance.

  • Iphoto transitions exporting to Quicktime

Working in iphoto 08. "Fit slideshow to music" simply does not work, so I manually adjusted dissolves and display length to have the music and images end at roughly the same time. Exporting to Quicktime seems to ignore all of my transitions and the photos are done displaying with about a minute left in the music.
Exporting to idvd or imovie creates unacceptable reduced quality of the images. Is there a way to make the iphoto slideshow export exactly how it's playing in iphoto?

First are you using iPhoto 08 which is version 7 or iPhoto 09 which is version 8?
Exporting to Quicktime from iPhoto 08 (V7) will not get your transitions as a straight to QT export doesn't support them. With iPhoto 09 (V8) a slideshow export was added that would give you all of the features you had in the iPhoto slideshow.
So if you're at Version 7 you'll need to use a 3rd party slideshow application like PhotoPresenter or use iMovie to get your transitions.
PhotoPresenter has over 25 animated themes and interacts seamlessly with iPhoto. Some of those themes are demonstrated here: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes.

  • IPhoto 08 exporting albums

I have a Mac laptop running 10.5.2 with iPhoto 08 and FCE
(express)4.0. I have a plugin called Multifader by CM ImageFlow Fx and am making a 4 minute photomontage. My problem is that I don't know how to set the quality in iPhoto for exporting. For example I have a number of photos that are wallet sized 2.5 x 3. When I export my whole album and then reimport it in FCE with Multifader it seems as if the quality of the smaller photos is diminished. Is there anyway to get around this? I want to play this video eventually on a widescreen tv and/or through a projector on a regular sized projecter screen.

    mathlady42
There's no way to make a wallet size pic look acceptable on widescreen tv or on a large projector screen. There are only so many pixels in the pic and whole lot more on the screen.
In general, when working with FCE I've got best results using tif files rather than jpeg. Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue you can set the kind to tif, then complete the export to a folder on the desktop. Then import this folder of images into FCE.

  • Sharpness APERTURE vs iPHOTO~file exported from Aperture worse than iPhoto

    HEY.
i'm recently using Aperture for my Photo Editing work.I found that everything Good and Perfect after fine tune and preview in the Window of Aperture...while Export it to the Jpeg (originaly image import from jpeg file) I found it's a bit loose from what i see in the Window Aperture...means,Loose the Sharpness...whole image getting un-sharp or s'ld i say added gausion blur of feel??
Once i import it(the one exported from Aperture) into iPhoto and Export it (even down size to 800 of diamention) it became Sharp and nice colour tone while compare with the one which Export from Aperture!!!!
    Why?
In the Export setting of Aperture i do set the Quality to max 12 and 300dpi even...
    Need your hand...thanks!!

WARNING! The sharpness problem is occurring in iPhoto modifications as well! I'm running Tiger and Leopard at the same time on 2 different computers - SAME EXACT SHARPNESS problems. The problem is NOT the OS - it's in the APPLE Photo Aps!

  • Remove fade in/out from iPhoto slideshow export?

I'm bringing in some pictures from iPhoto and I've had bad luck with photo resolution when I used iMovie to import the picture and apply Ken Burns effects, etc. I've seen some suggestions here to use an iPhoto slideshow export instead.
I have my settings for 1 second slides, no transition and a ken burns effect. I'd like to make an export for each picture, but iPhoto insists on opening the slideshow with a fade in and closing with a fade out. Is there any way to prevent this? I'd like to add the transitions in iMovie instead.
(I realize that the iMovie forum might be a better place for this so forgive the crosspost)

Thanks, I think I'll skip the Ken Burns for now since I've had nothing but problems with it. My issues before were that 1) iMovie would play the images in sequence just fine during playback but at export would mix up the order. 2) The resolution on the pictures was absolutely terrible. I have a new movie now and haven't seen either problem.

  • Iphoto 11 export

Iphoto 11 export function doesn't work.  Previously we had Kodak Gallery plugins and the forums adviced to remove these.  After some trouble (I'm a novice!!!) I found how to delete all the Iphoto plugins.  Now the export function still doen't work but messages "No plugins found".  How do I reinstall only the standard plugins so that I can export pictures for pc users???  Thanks.

    Easiest thing: Reinstall:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Can't iPhoto '11 export video?

I have videos taken from my iPhone that are in the new iPhoto that I just upgraded to... but iPhoto doesn't seem to export video to QT or anywhere else as it used to. Did Apple really make a new iPhoto version where you can't even get iPhone video out of there?

    Interesting discussion.
I thought exporting video from iPhoto would export my mp4 files, which are from a 2014 Canon digital camera.
Unfortunately, the camera wasn't mine and its no longer accessible to me.
Using iMovie I was not able to find any of my video clips using the Events or Import !?
Whenever I tried to EXPORT video from iPhoto, I got an error message:
After looking though the support comment here, I went back to iPhoto menus and like for the files:
File > Reveal in Finger > Original file
That found my original mp4 video clips and from there was able to copy them to my desktop.
After that, iMovie imported them as I had expected.
    Current OS and patches:
    Mac OS X 10.9,4 (Mavericks)
    iMovie       10.0.4
    iPhoto         9.5.1

  • Unable to create ?volume in iPhoto during export

Should read  "/volume/"  in "iPhoto"  during export.  Had same message in version 6.0.6 and 7.1.5 and now 8.1.2.   File is archived in original  6.0.6 but was upgraded in oyher two versions.  Will not work in .jpg or .tiff formats.  3330 pictures are involved with different camera desig nations, ie.  DSCN and IMG.
    Any ideas?

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • IPhoto crops again when printing

I crop a photo, then hit Done.
But then, when I hit Print I photo (appears to) then crop it again.
    Why?
    Thanks

Most likely your photos are in a different aspect ratio than your prints - for example most digital photos are in a 4 x 3 ratio or 1.3333333 to 1 (my camera's maximum is 3072 x 2304 - 1.333333 to 1)
If the print size is different than that then something has to give - so for a 6 x 4 print (1.5 to 1) either something has to be cropped, white space added or pixels squashed in one direction creating distortion - iPhoto crops
If you do NOT want autocropping then simply crop your photos to the correct ratios BEFORE printing or print at the same ratio as the original photo (probably 1.333333 to 1) size - if you are going to print 4 x 6 they you crop to 4 x 6

  • Iphoto slideshow exported to Windows format

How can a slideshow produced in Iphoto be exported to windows vista format.
I have been able to produce the slideshow in IDVD which can be played on a dvd player, but I need to produce the slideshow so it can be read on a windows pc
    Can anyone help me please
    Cheers
    Harry in OZ

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can't the Vista computer play the DVD?
Another possibility is if you have Quicktime Pro. You can export the movie to Windows Media format and Vista should be able to read that.

  • Since the Maverick update, iPhoto 11 export of a slideshow has stopped working.  Any suggestions?

Since the Maverick update, iPhoto 11 exporting of a slideshow no longer works. It did prior to the update.  The more flexible drop down menu when selecting Export has been replaced by 3 choices;  480p, 720, and 1080p.  Any suggestions?

Here are some screenshots showing the export process in the slideshow.
This shows the beginning screen to export the slideshow.
Shows the screen for the file location to be stored.
    Shows the export has begun.
    Shows the export has started....
Show the export still being saved.  About half way there....
This image shows the slideshows being saved to the iTunes library before the Maverick update.  I had 3 decent size videos from the slideshows that played on Apple TV.  None of the exports after Maverick made it to iTunes.  They show up in the iPhoto slideshow folder as a file, but with nothing in them.
Hope this helps explain what I have done and the comparitves.  Any suggestions?

how do I create a slide show from iphoto and export/send slide show within an email/, how do I create a slide show from iphoto and export/send slide show within an email/

    You don't.
Slideshows are exported as movies and these are very large files. Email is not an appropriate medium for very large files as they can cause immense issues for the receiver.
Better to share some other way.
