IPhoto deletes pictures when shared
Not that Apple will do anything about this problem that has been going on since iPhoto got the major update, but in shared mode, we imported loads of photos of our beautiful 20 month old son and newborn daughter. And now they are permanently gone. Vanished!!! Keeps happening. And of course they were deleted from phone. So, moral of the story, is; the only way to import is in the ORIGINAL user mode (which screws up other user iPhone syncs) and then they appear in other users. If imported in secondary users, ALL PICTURES ARE LOST. Apple..... maybe fix this???
Can someone please help me if they know how to retrieve lost pictures?
Thank you.

Note that NO one else has reported this so it is highly likely that you have a problem rather than iPhoto having a bug
Also this is not a way to reach Apple - it is strictly a user to user forum
And personal e-mails are not permitted in it per the TOU
And it is strongly recommended that you never have iPhoto or any other program delete your photos - it is far better to import the photos and then delete them yourself later (I prefer to wait for one backup cycle at least)
Any more details on your problem so someone might be able to help

Hi there- I got a new MacBook just under a year ago, and I was recently scrolling through my pictures, when I noticed they stopped about 2 years ago.
I KNOW that when I got the Air, the Genius Bar employees imported all my information over, which includes pictures from up to 7 years ago. Where do I find those pictures? No, I haven't backed it up, which I definitely regret. Can anyone help?I KNOW that when I got the Air, the Genius Bar employees imported all my information over, which includes pictures from up to 7 years ago. Where do I find those pictures?
If you previously had an older iPhoto version, iPhoto 7.1.2 or earlier, iPhoto may have created a new iPhoto library because it could not open the old iPhoto library. Search your computer for a second iPhoto library in your Pictures folder.
Try to search for a file called "Library6.iPhoto". This file is part of any iPhoto Library. To search your entire mac download Find Any File ,
and search as described here in Old Toad's post:

IPhoto softens pictures when reviewing
I'm wondering if anyone can help with the following. When I review photos on iPhoto on my Mac Pro, sharp, in focus pictures briefly show up as appropriately sharp, and then a fraction of a second later, they are softened. This is when I'm in events paging through pictures in the full window. This never used to happen. You can tell the picture is sharp by the moment when it first comes up. It's quite frustrating and makes it difficult to work with pictures at all.
Help! Thanks for your support.Note that NO one else has reported this so it is highly likely that you have a problem rather than iPhoto having a bug

IPhoto 11 crashing when sharing photos
Hi all,
I am using a macbook pro with Mac OS X (10.7.5) and iPhoto 11 9.4.2 (710.42). For the last month, when I try to export photos using the automatic Facebook uploader, iPhoto will crash. Sometimes I'm prompted to restore my library (when I reopen after filing a crash report), which I have done, but I am still having issues. It will crash occasionally or get hung up while I'm editing, but it's mostly when I'm sharing. I updated a while ago, and I know some people began having problems then, but I didn't until just recently. Can anyone help? I know on the other threads I've read, people usually want the crash report, so that is below.

IPhoto loses pictures when I try to rearrange them for an email
When I try to send an email in iPhoto 11, if I try to rearrange those pictures, it loses them in the email. It's very frustrating.
For example, I'll start with this:
Then when for instance I try to drag the bottom picture to the upper left picture to swap them out, this is what I'm left with:
It's super frustrating. I tried re-installing iPhoto but that didn't help.
Please help me!
Thanks,
JamesBefore anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner. -
Iphoto deletes events when adding events from flagged photos
Dear community,
Whenever I use flagged photos, previous events get deleted. I don't know whether this is because the photos can only be in one event at a time, or that this is erroneous behaviour.
In my logic, there should be possibility for as much events as you deem possible, yet it is mind boggling, that you don't have an automatic option, that makes you put photos in two events. Also it is mind numbing that you can't just copy & paste the pictures anywhere you like. You can paste in albums, but not into events.
You have an option to "Create event from flagged photos", yet not an option to add photos to an existing event, you must flag them first.
Then there is the sudden discomfort of brain pain, when you find out the previous events you've created stopped seizing to exist, and you have to sift through 500 photos, just to find 3 photos you've flagged in the creation of a previous event. Which defeats the purpose of creating them.
The albums work good for this purpose, yet I want to be able to pin albums to the back board, where the events are. Or have events that will not disappear, may contain doubles with other events, or/and aren't restricted to copying into them. It would save a lot of time, to just CMD + C, CMD + V.You're confusing Events and Albums.
In my logic, there should be possibility for as much events as you deem possible, yet it is mind boggling, that you don't have an automatic option, that makes you put photos in two events
A photo in two Events is using twice the disk space. An album just references the photo in the Library and can be in as many albums as you like while wasting no disk space.
You have an option to "Create event from flagged photos", yet not an option to add photos to an existing event, you must flag them first.
Eh, you have to flag photos first before you can create an Event from them too...
Then there is the sudden discomfort of brain pain, when you find out the previous events you've created stopped seizing to exist, and you have to sift through 500 photos, just to find 3 photos you've flagged in the creation of a previous event. Which defeats the purpose of creating them.
Flagging photos does not delete Events. Emptying an Event deletes them.
You can't have what you want. -

IPhoto always opens when the iPhone is attached even with no new pictures..
Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
Yes, let it import the camera roll pictures that are on the iPhone and let it "delete originals" and then let iTunes sync photos and you will have your pics but the camera roll will be available again.
No "new" pictures does not make any difference when you have not let iPhoto delete originals when it imports the images. iPhoto will open whenever it detects images on the camera roll. -
I deleted the picture in iphoto, then emptied my iphoto trash, but the picture is still showing on my computer when i go into my trash under “all images” How do you delete pictures even when you empty the trash and they stay in the computer?
Wtih iPhoto 9 when the iPhoto Trash is emptied the files get moved to the Trash bin in the Dock as a second chance to change your mind. Look in the Dock's Trash bin.

Hi
How do I download all my photos onto an external hard drive intact without loosing iPhoto's features, important info and details? I need to delete pictures and files to make room in My mac's memory which is currently full.
MaroSo you want to move the iPhoto Library?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

iPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon. It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?
Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened? Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..

IPhoto 6 will not delete pictures anymore!!
This is a very recent problem...I use to delete a picture while I'm in the "Library" then I'll empty the Trash in iPhoto. Then when I went into the "Finder" window the picture would be deleted....all is fine
But now when I go through the same process the picture will remain in the "Finder" like the picture was never deleted!
I also noticed some new files under my "Pictures - iPhoto Library"
Files called:
AlbumData.xml
Dir.data
iPhoto.ipspot
iPhotoLock.data
Library.data
Library.iPhoto
Library6.iPhoto
Thumb32Segment.data
Thumb64Segment.data
ThumbJPGSegment.data
I've never noticed all these files before....could this be the problem??Bootron
Those files are all part of a standard library. Your issue can be caused by minor errors on the HD, so check your disk with Disk Utility

How to delete pictures with iPhoto off your camera roll?
I bought iphoto to help me organize pictures on my Ipad and Iphone. I especially like the idea of being able to compair two or more similar pictures and save the best photo and delete the copies that weren't as good. I liked this feature but then discovered that it was not deleting the pictures off the camera roll.
I would love someone to tell me how to delete pictures in iphoto so they are removed from my Camera Roll at the same time. Being able to look at two pictures at the same time and decide which one you want to keep is great, but if I can't delete the one I don't want it is a waste of time.Titan2,
Thanks for the reply, I agree that the Iphoto needs to be the stock app. Hope it isn't too long.
Ralph,
I agree that the iphoto for the ipad might not be the best place to organize, but when you are retired and traveling you would like to select the pictures you want to keep and not wait until you get home. The camera roll doesn't let you compair two or more photos to see which one is best, Iphoto does but I want the poorer photos off the ipad so I don't have to wait until I get home and I want to use the memory for the best photos. I'm trying to figure out a round about way so I know which ones to delete on the camera roll.
I thank both of you for your comments. -
How can i delete pictures from my iPad using iPhoto?
I would like to use iPhoto to delete pictures from my iPad and iPhone but I can't seem to do that. I don't want to go through and mark each individual picture on the device itself to delete them.
You can only do this when importing. You could try using Image Capture (in the Applications Folder) for the job.

How do I delete pictures off my iPhone from iPhoto
Is there a way to delete pictures from my iPhone using iPhoto because it takes a long time to delete each one using my phone.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank youHow To Delete Photos from iPhone
OK, so I finally figured out a way to delete / remove pictures from your iPhone (on a Mac) regardless of whether or not they have been imported into iPhoto.
It seems that iPhoto '08 (7.1.1) cannot do it —this is a weakness of iPhoto. Use IMAGE CAPTURE application, not iPhoto.
Quit iPhoto. Open Image Capture and choose the "Download Some..." option. You will then see all of your pictures stored in the Camera Roll on the iPhone. Select one or a range or even all of the photos you wish to remove, and choose Edit -> Delete. The selected photo(s) will be removed from the iPhone.
Nerds Only: If you want to see something fun, with your iPhone plugged into your Mac, go look at the Camera Roll of pictures on the phone itself. Use the thumbnail index view. Then, when you use Image Capture.app to delete the pictures, you see them disappear one by one very quickly from the iPhone screen. Cool.
