Iphoto - Deletion of duplicate Photos

I have 2000 duplicate photos in iphoto in my macbook pro.  Please advise how to delete the same.

Same as any photo. Put them in the iPhoto trash and then empty it.
Then empty the system trash.
Tip: Experienced users strongly recommend trashin in batches of 100 or so - doing them all at one go can cause issues with the database.

  • Automatic Delete all duplicate photos in IPhoto ?

How can I delete all duplicate photos in my I Photo ? I have 6000 photos with many duplicates.

Where are you seeing these duplicates? In iPhoto or via the Finder? If it's in iPhoto then try using Duplicate Annihilator. It can detect and identify duplicated image files that have been imported into iPhoto.
If it's via the Finder then it's very likely you don't have true duplicates like you think you do.

  • HT4927 How to delete all duplicate photos ?

What is the best way to delete multiple duplicate photos ?

You can use one of the apps:
    iPhoto Library Manager
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free
    Duplicate Annihilator
iPhoto Applescript to Remove Duplicates - free
My personal favorite is the same as Larry's, iPhoto Library Manager.

  • How can I get IPhoto to identify duplicate photos so I can delete them?

I have accidently created copies of hundreds of photos in my library. Not sure how really. Can IPhoto identify the duplicates in my library so I can delete them on mass? Some of the them have three or four copies in different albums. I am concerned if I try to do the eliminating manually I will either miss some or delete something important.

You'll find an answer here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5716355&#5716355
I found the above by typing "duplicate" in the Search Discussions field at the top right of this page. You should try it before posting a question because you'll usually find the answer right away rather than waiting for a new response.

  • How do I Delete all Duplicate Photos?

I have several copies of the same photos in iPhoto and under Pictures in the HD. I am not sure how they got duplicated in the first place, but there has got to be a simple way to delete all duplicates, right? I have like 10,000 images and many of them are duplicates, and many of them are images from my text books that I do not want.
I have iWork and MobileMe if that helps at all...

I don't know. They all claim to find duplicate files. The poster will need to read the Read Me files to confirm if the duplicates inside the iPhoto library folder are included.

  • IPhoto 4 importing duplicate photos without dialog box opening

I often import pictures from my Canon PowerShot SD550 to more than one computer. I do not use iPhoto to delete photos after importing. Occasionally I need to import more recent photos to one computer before I have the opportunity to import older photos to the other computer which is at another location. I used to get a dialog box on this computer asking me if I want to import duplicate photos. I must have accidentally checked the wrong box once because iPhoto now imports all photos every time without the dialog box. How can I regain control to not import duplicates?

It's just me … restating my question. My original wording was not as clear as I thought!

  • After I run duplicate annihilator do I have to delete the duplicate photos?

I am a novice IMAC user so please forgive me. I ran duplicate annihilator to remove dulplicate photos from my IPHOTO albums. Do I need to delete the duplicates or did the annihilator do it for me? Thanks M

You need to delete them, after reviewing them to make sure the app got it right.

  • Is there a way to delete multiple duplicate photos easily?

Is there a way to remove duplicate photos.  I have a hard disk crask and the backup put multipul copies of photos in the photo file.  Is there an easy way to eliminate them?

Sounds like you imported that back up rather than restored it. Do you still have it? If so, it would easier and faster to restore it correctly.
    If not:
Some apps for dealing with duplicates in iPhoto
    iPhoto Library Manager
    Duplicate Annihilator
    Decliner
    iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner

  • Iphoto deleted all the photos from my photo library while I was in iPhoto. Is there a way to recover them?

I am using OS Yosemite 10.10.2. I was working in iPhoto 9.6.1 with iPhone 5 attached and moving items from iCloud to iPhoto. iPhoto suddenly deleted all the photos in my photo library and displayed a screen as if I were using iPhoto for the first time. Regardless of what caused this, is there a way to recover the lost photos? Thanks!

You might have accidentally used the Command+Option+Delete key combination described below to move them the to iPhoto Trash bin:
Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library
1 - from an Event or the Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc.: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
NOTE: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., with only the Delete key only deletes that photo from that item. Deleting a photo from an Event deletes ALL occurences of that photo in the library.

  • IPhoto 6.0- Trying to Delete unwanted duplicate photos:::: Help???

Recently, I downloaded all my photos from my desktop to an external hard drive in an effort to bring them to my MacBook. The problem is that I had about 5,000 pictures and when I downloaded them and know on the MacBook I have 20,000. Some how, many of the photos were duplicated and even triplicated (if that's a word- Ha Ha). In any event, I'm wondering if there is a way to have iPhoto sort out all the duplicates so I can delete them.... I have searched help to no avail and can't find any easy solution. Not even sure if it's possible, but it would beat the alternative of going through and deleting one by one. One last thing....the duplicates are not even next to the original. They are sorted all over the place. They also have the same photo #. Can anyone help?

Just throw what you have done away and start over
Connect your external HD to your old computer and drag the iPhoto library form the picture folder (default location) to the EHD, connect the EHD to your new computer and drag the iPhoto library on the new machine to the desktop and drag the old iPhoto library from the EHD intact as a single entity to the pictures folder of the new Mac and launching iPhoto on the new machine - there is no importing involved
Once you have tested and are happy with the iPhoto library on the new computer trash the iPhoto library you drug to the desktop

  • IPhoto for iPad duplicates photos in library photos web syncronizing ... How avoid and delete duplicates photos ?

Can someone help ? My Photos Library is so huge with 4-5 copies of the same photo ......

Basically you need the photos available a tthe path the they had when they were imported, check the option to copy imported items to the iPhoto library and then you use the iplm rebuild -
Photo Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  can rebuild a referenced library into a managed library but only if the original photos are accessable via the path in iPhoto
Or if you have iPhoto '11 9.4.2 and Aperture 3.3 or newer you can use Aperture to reconnect the photos

  • How can I delete phantom/duplicate photos off my iPad?

Ever since I updated to iOS 6, I noticed that every photo in my iPhoto library appeared twice on my iPad. So I went into iTunes and unchecked Sync Photos. This should have deleted all photos from my iPad, right? Well, it didn't: all my photos are *still on my iPad* (there's only one of each photo now, though). This is taking up a lot of space. How can I get rid of these photos? I tried deleting them directly from my iPad, but it won't let me.
I even tried rebooting the iPad, then connecting it back to iTunes. It still has "sync photos" unchecked. So logically there shouldn't be any photos at all on my iPad. But there are. How can I get them off?

Never mind, I got it. AFAIK, it's a bug in iOS 6. It went away after I played around with iTunes for awhile. I did this:
    - Told iTunes to sync photos individually by album.
    - Made sure I had all the albums deselected, so logically, 0 photos should have been synced.
    - Synced with my iPad a few times to make sure the phantom photos and albums went away. It took a few tries, but I got it.
    - Then synced again to put all my photos back onto the iPad. No more phantom photos or albums or duplicates.

  • Does reinstalling iPhoto delete all old photos from memory?

My iPhoto became corrupted so I had to reinstall the program. It seems that by deleting the old version of the software (by removing the pkg files from receipts) and reinstalling the software all my photos have vanished from my hard drive. Surely the program wouldnt remove the files from memory or is this a feature of apple products?
can anyone help!? advise please...! I am an apple novice.

Typically the iPhoto application does not become corrupted - the database (the iPhoto library) does and resolving this usually does not involve installing iPhoto but rebuilding the iPhoto library
what exactly do you mean when you say
all my photos have vanished from my hard drive.
    What version of iPhoto
