IPhoto Description Fields

Is there a way for iWeb to automatically import in the Description field from iPhoto to the Caption?
I may be missing something, but it would seem dumb to have to manually replicate an authoritative data source in iPhoto to iWeb.
Matt

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Not exactly. But there is an Applescript that will put the description in iPhoto into the Title field in iPhoto so you can add the description to the title filed in an iWeb photo page: AppleScript to copy iPhoto Description to Title. Using the script in iPhoto will let you get the description information into the iWeb title field in its photo page.

    File -> New Smart Album
    Description -> contains -> Duplicate
    will find them.
Then the keystroke to delete depends on which version of iPhoto you have. All the keyboard shortcuts are under the Help menu.

Does you friend use any accented letters in the descriptions?  That might cause it but I don't know for sure.
Has he run any repair operations on his library, i.e. repairing the database file? Another possible fixe that's easy to apply is the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
        Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache folder(s):
    Home/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
and, if there is one, the
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
The demo version of GraphicConverter can be used to view/check/edit the ITPC fields in an image file after exporting.

  • IPhoto metadata field for description?

I'm looking for the name of the iptc metadata tag that iPhoto would recognize and import into the description field. I'm writing a script that will move the descriptions from an incompatibly named field from another program.
I initially commented some 20k pictures on my old windows machine in a piece of proprietary canon software called "Zoom Browser." When I imported these into iPhoto, the descriptions were missing. Using ExifTool, I discovered that they were placed in a field called "UserComment" in the JPEGs. I'm hoping that there exists a field that iPhoto would recognize and automatically import into the description field. I tested a file that I labeled with a description in iPhoto, and I couldn't find my test description in ExifTool, so this worries me somewhat.
    Thanks in advance!

It's the Caption-Abstract field. I just exported/ writing the Description to the file, then re-imported. This is what Exif tool found on the Exported file:
Upon re-import this was read into the Description field.

  • Additional information is being added to the description field in iPhoto

    Hi all
I have an Events file in iPhoto for Aircraft I have taken photographs of.   They are stored in 'registration order - ( eg. A-ABCD - Z-EFGH, etc.)    To each photograph I have added a description in the 'description field ' which includes make, model, construction number, owner and where seen including flight information.    When I had about 200 photographs I noted information from one photograph had been added to many of the others.    In due course I deleted the additional information,  leaving just the information I originally entered.   Now I have over 900 photographs and this problem has arisen again.   On many of the photographs information added to a particular aircraft has been added to many of the others - added not over written.   In some instances information from two aircraft has been added.
Obviously I can go through each photograph and delete the additional information but this will take time.   Can anyone offer advice as to why this is happening and how can I ensure it does not repeat again.   I have many more photographs to add to the Aircraft folder but I am reluctant to do so until I can prevent recurrence.
    TIA
    Regards
    Bill

    I would try rebuild iPhoto.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Disbelief over iPhoto description support

    Hello All,
I have been reading articles and looking through forums for an answer as to how I would include the descriptions entered into the iPhoto's "Description" field of a photo's "Info" space in the iWeb copy of the photo. To my disbelief all I can find are statements of regret that it can't be done and crazy work arounds like a script that batch copies the description to the photo's title field. That's actually a clever idea, but it's crazy it would have to be done and goes against the labels for those fields making it counter intuitive.
So that this isn't just a rambling complaint I'll ask again here, is there no way to include an iPhoto image description in iWeb? I notice doing this is a somewhat buried feature in MobileMe galleries, so it must be possible in iWeb. I've put a lot of work into telling the story of my pictures in the description fields, I'm really hoping this effort isn't actually pointless.

Currently that's the nature of the beast(s), iWeb and iPhoto. Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html. Also send one to iPhoto by replacing iweb.html with iphoto.html.
Since the photos do not actually contain the descriptions entered by iPhoto until they are exported out of iPhoto with the option to include the metadata, a fix will require some method for iWeb to read the iPhoto database file where the descriptions are stored.
The more feedback regarding that description field the better chance of seeing it implemented in some future update.
Another workaround would to be to use Jalbum with a skin/theme that includes the ITPC fields of your choice, description/caption being one of them, for the slideshow/presentation.

  • IPhoto search field

    Hello:
I am running  iPhoto 11, Version 9.2.1 and I am unable to located the search field.  I installed a Dupicate Annhilator Application and found 7500 duplicates and it requires that I enter "Duplicate" in this field to locate the duplicates for deletion.  I have been unable to located this search field.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to turn on this field?  BTW: the OS is Lion.
    Thank you are very much,
    Charlie

I've not used it except in it's demo mode and it worked as advertised on my test library.
There another app/script that does a similar job and is free.  It's called iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates.
I'm not sure what criteria it uses to compare photos but when it finds duplicates it adds "duplicate" to the Description field of the photo.  You can then group the photos in a smart album to visually compare and delete the duplicates.  The script requires more work by the user.
DA has several algorithms that it uses to find duplicates so would probably be more thorough.

  • IPhoto text field input focus requires mouse hover

This is driving me crazy. To add text to a photo title or description, the mouse must not just click in the text box -- it must stay there! If the mouse drifts away after the click or you bump the mouse while typing, text input stops. This is seems peculiar and turns out to be quite frustrating. This reminds me of the old days when there was a debate over window focus and mouse movement.
Once you click into a text field, that field should stay active until you do something intentional to leave it (tab, enter, click, etc.).

I'm having the same problem as you with dealing with text. After some hours of trying all kinds of clicking around and holding down extra keys (the arrow keys help a bit), I'm getting nowhere. I was automatically upgraded to 9.1.1 when I got my new MacBookPro. I was previously on an older version of iPhoto. The description pane in the older version was bigger and much simpler to use (there is spare space on the iPhoto 9.1.1 screen layout, so why did Apple make its description panel so small?). Version 9.1.1 has more editing options, but I haven't yet found a way of using most of them because as you say, it's so difficult to keep selected text active for editing.
I have also tried drafting my descriptions inside Word first and then pasting them into iPhoto. They paste OK but the pasted text is black (as in Word) - but against the near-black of the iPhoto description pane, it's almost invisible! I thought I could then change the pasted text colour in iPhoto to white (on black) by using 'colours' from inside the description-editing options of iPhoto, but for the above reasons, I can't find any way of doing that.
There seems to be no direct help for these problems in iPhoto Help. Has anyone out there worked out what the select-and-edit routines should be? If not, I just hope Apple will solve these things in the next upgrade, or at the very least give us a bigger text pane.

  • Photo description field... change font style?

I inadvertently pasted some text that was copied from a different app, and the text text had a particular font and style to it, and pasted it into the description field for a photo in iPhoto, and then that field picked up the style of the source text, and applied universally to the description field in iPhoto.
How do I get back the default style, or do custom styling at all to the description field?

I was unable to duplicate you issue of changing the Description font. I tried copying and pasting from other documents with vastly different fonts. No luck.
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Launch iPhoto and check the Description field.

  • I want to editable description field  in my web dynpro application

    Hi expert,
The requirement is to make the Description field editable. However, the container for the dynpro only appears to allow for a certain type of action and is essentially used to display the Line Item details, giving no option to change the Line Item Description.
so i want to editable in this description field  in my web dynpro application  /SAPSRM/WDC_DOTC_PC_I_BD .
    Kindly give me soulation ASAP.
    Thanks and Regard's.

    Thanks for the reply.
The name of the view is V_PC_DOTC_ITM on which we have the records. On each line item there is a description field which is of type (LinkToAction). I want to enable user so that it can change the Description text (I will handle the action). Also, if you have any idea about updating the database table from here as it needs to be updated in BBP_PCPOS table.

  • Is there a way to have the description field in a calendar list item to support enhanced rich text?

We have a user who has a few hundred calendar items created in outlook. If you open the calendar item, the description includes tables with borders, shading, etc. It seems that the description field in Sharepoint calendars only support basic rich text,
so if I copy the items from the user's calendar to the sharepoint calendar, the formatting is lost. Is there any way to create a custom calendar with enhanced rich text for the description field?

This is a workaround that is working for us.  I created a new column "Event Description", selected "Plain Text" and then created a basic workflow that updated Description from Event Description.  #160 is no longer showing.
Please be aware that the trick to this is that you must write everything in a string.  In other words, don't use the Enter key.
In my case it was worth it as we couldn't rebuild and the user needed a valid and quick fix.

  • Is there a way to display again the description field by clicking on the gold star near the url (useful to type memos about this site)?

In the previous versions of Firefox, when you click on the star near the url, you can add this website on your favorites. Another click and you can edit some fields about this bookmark, like the url, the folder, etc...
But with FF17, the Description field is no longer there. You can only find it when managing your bookmarks, that is not really user friendly.
Is there a way to add again the description field when clicking on the gold star? It's very useful for adding notes about this website, and it's also synch with addins like Xmarks

  • Error when creating a description field. MySQL syntax to use?

I'm creating a form which has a description field in it. I created this form with many fields. However I then got an error and decided to limit the form to only 2 fields. These 2 fields (user and title) insert with no problem. However when I added the description field into the mix. I gat the same error I had previously gotten.

I'm using the "Text" syntax for the field "desc" (description)
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to define the table row in a different way?

    Hi,
I am working on an image gallery using the tutorials.
    I used the sql
    SELECT *,
    rand() as random_number
    FROM image_img
ORDER BY random_number DESC LIMIT 1
on my default.php page but on preview i get the message
You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'LIMIT 0, 10' at line 1
I tried the solution above by removing the desc limit.
    I got the same prob.
I will like to know how best to tackle this.

  • Creation of a product description field of length 250 car. used for search?

    Hi all,
we need to create a specific description field for products  with a length of 250 (the standard description is too short at 40 car, =>table COMM_SHTXT) . That field should also be added to the search criteria.
What would be the best solution for this creation , given that the field must exist also in ECC SD from where the product is replicated to CRM :
-creation of a Z-append to the product table in ECC (table MARA?) and a corresponding include in the product table in CRM (COMM_PRODUCT) ?
-creation of an attribute in ECC (or Z-append) and creation of a "set attribute" in CRM (i.e transaction COMM_ATTRSET), but there are warning in CRM when you create an attribute of length > 132.
-using the standard Texts (no limitation of lenght) attached to products : is a search possible on these texts?or too complicated/poor performance ?
Regarding the display in CRM UI, is it possible to display all the 250 caracters  if the field is a customized "set attribute" or a Z-append? It seems that it is not possible to display a string field on more than one line in the UI configuration, or even, on more than 8 columns in an assignment block?
    thanks for your help
    Ludovic

well, I have found at least how to replace the error message (length of max 75 car  for PC UI) . Instead of trying to edit manually table T100C, there is an entry in customizing SPRO (cross appl/SAP Product/basic settings/Define Characteristics of System Messages
) which allows to customize standard messages , and so change from Error to Warning.
