IPhoto Disappeared after reinstall

I had some issues and needed to reload my operating system. After a restart IPhoto is now gone completely. I still have all the other ILife components(move, garage band, etc). I put the reinstall disk in and tried reinstalling ILife 08. It says it was successful but whenever I click on IPhoto nothing happens....the program still is not there. Any idea on how I can get it back?

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forum
delete all of the iPhoto receipts - "your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts - and do the reinstall again
What your you reinstalling from - iLife '08 disk or the restore disks that came with your computer? iLife programs are not contained on OS upgrades

The 10.8.3 update should have left your iLife apps intact - did you do a clean install, erasing your drive? If so, then you should be able to go to the Mac App Store and download the iLife apps using the Apple ID with which you registered your computer.

  • IPhoto missing after reinstalling leopard

After reinstalling Leopard on my new macBook, iPhoto is missing from the Applications. Has anyone any ideas how to solve this? I can't find the individual install for iPhoto either on the install disks.
    Thanks

so I'm buying my own copy of Leopard
    Why?
Because the copy of Leopard she has is unlicensed if she doesn't have the install disc.
Do I have to erase the installed one before I install my new copy?
If 10.5 is working why are you going to re-install?
Well, security for one. I would never, never, never use a pre-owned Mac without completely erasing and reinstalling everything from scratch. Who knows what hacks, security holes, pirated software, or other junk may have been left on it by its previous owner. We already know that the seller included a stolen copy of Leopard. Maya would be doing everything right by buying a fresh copy of Leopard and reinstalling.
And if iphoto is going to be missing, could I install it from the Tiger disk that came with my desktop?
System Restore Disks are particular to the model they come with. Also, it's a breach of the licence.
That's wrong. Software on a system restore disc may be transferred to a different Mac as long as the software is no longer installed on the first Mac. And while some have reported difficulty getting OS X to install on a different model, I think it's likely that the iLife apps will work.
If Maya has no system restore CDs for her iBook at all, she should contact the seller and demand them. If the seller told Maya that Leopard or any other Apple software is included, and then included no install discs, the seller defrauded Maya.

  • HT4711 how do I get iPhoto back after reinstalling mac os x lion?

I lost Iphoto app after I reinstalled  mac os x lion, and cant get it back.....any suggestions?

iPhoto is not part of the OS X installation. It's a separate app.
Log in to the App Store and download it again - it doesn’t require a purchase.

  • Pics in iPhoto Disappeared after renaming iPhoto Library File in Finder

    Friends,
I was working on my parents computer in an effort to help them organize their files, etc.
They have iPhoto 6 and I renamed the iPhoto Library folder in Finder. Obviously this is not a good idea since now there is no content (pictures) in iPhoto.
This action made a new folder (with the new name) in Finder's 'pictures' section. So, I tried to copy and paste (or maybe I dragged it, cant recall) the contents of the newly named folder back under the 'iphoto library' folder however, that did not make the photos reappear in iPhoto.
After moving (I think I highlighted & dragged) the file contents of the newly named folder back in the 'iPhoto Library' folder, I deleted the newly named/created file.
It appears as though the images are still in the original & modified folders however, no pics in iPhoto.
And, the irony of the entire action is that I was renaming the 'iPhoto Library' folder to 'iPhoto Library - Do Not Touch' so my parents would not mess with the content as they have done in the past. Apparently, I am the one who needs to stay away.
    Thanks a bunch!

Thanks Badunit, and yes, you are correct about not having the newly named library to choose when holding down the Option key while opening iPhoto.....b/c I drug the contents back under the original iPhoto library folder and then deleted the newly name folder.
The individual pics seem to be in the modified & originals folder but I do not know how to get them back into iPhoto. Importing one by one doesnt seem like the correct option.
I attempted to rebuild the iPhoto library but that resulted in nothing happening when I choose that option.
I know there is a solution but I dont know the smartest next step. I have read related discussions that almost provide a solution.
Currently, I need to figure out a way to:
    1) get what seems to still exist in the modified & original folders back into iPhoto even if it means loosing albums, keywords. I am hoping this route doesnt wipe out dates that the images were taken. If there is a way to get them back into iPhoto this route, I need instructions.
    or,
    2) I have a back up of the entire HD on an external HD. Would it be best to somehow use that to replace what I have on the computer HD? I do not know how to do this so for sure need guidance.
Help! I need to get this fixed today (i.e. father is getting an iPad for retirement at a big reception and I need the computer in working order to make it all happen so he has pics on the iPad to display at the event). I think I may have to page TD or Old Toad....
    Thanks friends!!

  • Pictures in iPhoto disappeared after downloading Mavericks.

I downloaded mavericks and all of my pictures disappeared from iPhoto.  Help! Can I get them back?  If so, how?

One last test to see if there are 8000 master photos still in the library.
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • IPhoto disappeared after a freeze

After a freeze, the first, on my new Macbook Air - OS X version 10.9.5, my iPhoto - version 9.5.2 - came up empty. Even down to my screensaver photo. I tried the fixes suggested; holding down option/command, it only opened a box saying other library (which didn't open) and create new, which I'm reluctant to do.
Using my external hard drive I have most of my photos, and the option/command brings up the box, but after unplugging it, I still have 'nothing' on my computer.
This is the first time this has happened. I use iPhoto every single day and have a lot of photos, never had any trouble at all. It will not import photos from my camera now either, bringing up the box mentioned above.
The only thing I can think of is that earlier in the day I updated some software, but nothing to do with iPhoto (that I know about, I didn't see anything about iPhoto on the updates).
I tried to download iPhoto manager but it says there is no library for it to use.
    Thanks for any help.

Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it. Report back with the results of the search and a screenshot of the search results window which will look something like this but with fewer libraries found (at least one we hope).

  • ILife is disappeared after reinstalling Leopard

    Hello Everyone,
The subject may sound a bit silly so hopefully I can explain better here. I have bought my MacBook Pro 1.5 years ago. Originally it came with Tiger and iLife08 installed in the machine plus a Leopard DVD for the upgrade. So I upgraded shortly after I received the laptop and I ended up having Leopard and iLife08.
Until recently I decided to reinstall the OS with that Leopard DVD. I did a clean install so everything was wiped out. But after Leopard was installed I found out that iLife08 was no longer there. That wasn't unexpected since I did the clean install, but I was a bit shock when I realized I didn't have the installing files for iLife08. It was not part of that Leopard DVD and that's the only DVD provided from the package.
So now I am kind of stuck. I don't want to buy a copy of iLife08 or iLife09 since it was supposed to come with the machine. But now it is gone and I cannot install it from what's provided in the box. I wonder if anyone has similar experience like me? What do you do at the end?
    Thank you for reading this.
    Regards,
    Johnny

As TD stated, iLife will be on the original Tiger Install DVD 2 that came with your machine (iLife '08 and Leopard were released a couple of months apart, but most MBPs with Tiger shipped with iLife '06).
You can try inserting that disc and running the Optional Installs package, and you may be able to install iLife. If you, you'd need to do your Erase & Install using the Tiger disc, then install iLife, then perform an upgrade to Leopard using that disc.

  • Some album covers disappear after reinstalling windows

Before reinstalling windows i back up my music folder (iTunes), reinstall windows, itunes, add the music again and after that some covers doesn't appear. This shouldn't be,  even if i rerip my original cd theres no cover this time.
Example: Morrissey - kill uncle, remastered 2013, David Bowie - Aladdin Sane (40th anniversary).
And yes, i have used the obtain cover feature on itunes many times.

    Fixed with itunes 11.1.3

  • Iphoto disappeared after I installed Mavericks

I just installed Mavericks and my iphoto disapeared. Help!

This happened to me too (why doesn't Apple warn us before we upgrade, something always goes wrong), and I can't update iphoto - I get a message that says it was purchased by another user? It wasn't; this is my computer and iphoto has traveled with me all along.
Anyway, I tried to just buy a new copy of the software (REALLY???) but it won't let me buy it, do I need to uninstall iphoto first?

  • Iphoto disappeared when I updated to OS X Yosemite - help!

iphoto disappeared after I updated to Yosemite. When I spotlight search it, I'm alerted my version is incompatible with Yosemite, and need to update. When I go to update, I'm told this version isn't available yet in my country (USA). The app and all my non-backed up photos are gone... how do I recover this?

    1. First make a back up:
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
    2. Download the App:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Reinstalling iPhoto - came with Panther, disappeared after upgrade to Leopard

iPhoto worked after upgrade from Panther (10.3.X) to Leopard (10.5.8) but later disappeared - I think a disk error occured.  My synched backup copy also got wiped.  Started all over - zeroed the disks in case I was going to sell it - installed original Panther - iPhoto worked.  Re-installed upgrade to Leopard 10.5.8 - now get the error: "You cannot use this version of the application iPhoto.app with this version of Mac OS X."
    Any ideas?
    Boyd

10.3 (original disk) installed o.k. on the spare disk, and iPhoto comes up but I can tell by the interface that the one I was using last summer was a newer version.  I will see if it will upgrade from Panther with software updates, and then install Leopard after that.  Maybe that is the path needed to recover it.

  • IPhoto '11 suddenly not launching even after reinstalling

I am currently running version 10.6.8 and was using iPhoto '11 for many months without any problems until today!  Suddenly slideshows disappeared, so I checked for any updates - which there was one - and downloaded it.  I then restarted my computer however afterwards iPhoto wouldn't launch at all!  It gives an error message:
"iPhoto cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Maac OS X.  You may need to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
Tried restarting again just to make sure. Nothing but same error message.  So, reinstalled the Life '09 disk (since I had purchased iPhoto '11 online).  Even after reinstalling I am only getting the same error message.  No idea what to do now... Please help?!

Did you trash the Receipts before reinstalling?
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
