IPhoto disk space full - but all photos have been deleted

Several days ago I transferred all photos/videos from iPhoto to an external hard drive.  I deleted everything in iPhoto, emptied the iPhoto trash.
However, when I attempt to store a photo in the "empty" iPhoto, this message comes up:
"The disk containing your iPhoto library is running low on space."
I've explored the issue via Google and the Apple communities, and the only possible factor could have been that there were photos stored in my iPhone cache.  Tracked it down, but nope - it is empty.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash
These are *exactly* the issues I was having, and which prompted me to move files over to an EHD.  Watching the little colored wheel spin was agonizing...
The iPhoto Library will be in your Pictures Folder. Drag that to the trash and empty it.
Found it!  Mac is now in the process of deleting 4,182 photos.
You've been very helpful - I've learned things that will help me down the road.
Many, many thanks.

  • I have adobe 3:2 starter and all photos have been deleted but still have thumbnails, can i restore photos

please can some one help me to restore my photos from my thumbnails due to my son deleting my photo file where i used to keep them

Boy, I wish Adobe had a special OOPS! folder for all of us who accidentally deleted photos.  I lost 5 photos.  I deleted them from Adobe after I moved them to their own special folder in My Documents, but they're not there.  I've been trying to recover them for the past few days using data recovery programs like iUndelete and iRescue, but no luck.
Is Photo Well the same thing as thumbnails?  I've read where some people who have lost their photos still are able to view them as thumbnails, but if it's the same thing as Photo Well, mine don't show up there, either.  I can't remember if I chose "delete from hard disk" but I must have, because I've searched my computer and can't find them.
QUESTION:  By any chance are deleted photos assigned a different name than the original photos?  Maybe I've been searching for the wrong files all along????  Ugh, I'm about to give up, but does anyone know anywhere else I can look?  I've already emptied my Recycle Bin.  Thanks for any help anyone can give.

  • HT5885 My iphoto app on my macbook pro failed now all photos have been deleted

My iphoto app on my macbook pro failed and read that it "needed to re-build" I let it do so, and mid way "re-building" it failed and all of my photos vanished. They are not in any other files, but seems like they are completely deleted can anyone help me.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what makes you think they are deleted?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Been using g iPhone 6 for few months, just backed up my iPhone 5, restored my pics etc onto 6 but all original photos have been deleted?

Been using g iPhone 6 for few months, just backed up my iPhone 5, restored my pics etc onto 6 but all original photos have been deleted, Is there a way I can get them back?

If you are backing up to your computer, check in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, if there is more than your recent iPhone 6 backup listed. If yes, transfer the photos from your phone to the computer first, then restore from the backup. After that, transfer the recovered photos again to your computer and sync all of the transferred pictures to your phone, using iTunes and the settings in the photo pane.

  • Iphoto crashed after "successful import" but during the "finishing import" stage - i had selected to delete the imported photos on my phone...iphoto crashed after 90% of the photos had been deleted. Now i can't see any of the photos on iphoto

Hi guys, I was importing about 5000 photos from my phone onto my computer. it said the import was successful but did i want to delete or keep the photos on the original device. I opted to delete photos. The photos started to count down as they deleted and the computer said "finishing import". Once it had deleted down to about 600 photos iphoto simply disappeared, and a message popped up to say it had crashed. I opted to reopen iphoto and saw that not one of the photos had imported! Not only that but now all the photos have been deleted from my phone. I'm really upset if i've lost the last year of photos/ videos....does anyone know what has happened/ if i can recover them?
thanks so much in advance x

Not sure where you got those ideas - simply import your photos and keep the rather than deleting - then after a successful import and at least one back up cycle you can format the card if you want or you can do what I do and keep the photos moving to a new card when that one is full giving you yet another backup - if problems occurs then trouble shoot them - no need to trouble shoot if there is no problem
ad personally I find removing the card and plugging it into my card reader is faster and easier than finding the USB cable and hooking it up, turning on the camera, verifying that tty e battery is charged, etc - and it eliminates a point of failure in the USB cable  and the chance of the camera battery running out - but that is clearly a personal choice
You are overthinking this - it is simple
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • I have deleted all emails from my ICloud email account but my manage storage still shows that the mail is using 9.7GB.  Why isn't the number decreasing if all emails have been deleted?

I have deleted all emails from my ICloud email account but my manage storage still shows that the mail is using 9.7GB.  Why isn't the number decreasing if all emails have been deleted?

It might be caused by storage "buffering".  If so, the space will adjust automatically when another iCloud feature uses the space previously allocated to your deleted email.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4873.

  • I just Synced My iPhone 6 which had close to 2000 photos to a new computer (windows PC) and synced with iTunes. Now all my previous photos have been deleted which were there on my phone. Please suggest a way to recover those Photos . Thanks

I just Synced My iPhone 6 which had close to 2000 photos to a new computer (windows PC) and synced with iTunes. Now all my previous photos have been deleted which were there on my phone. Please suggest a way to recover those Photos . Thanks
P.S -I have not taken any backup of those photos. So please suggest any software or any other method.

If those photos were part of the camera roll, they were part of the backup as well and you can restore from the latest backup you made on the old computer. After that transfer the photos to the new PC, follow this article: iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Then sync again to the new one, which will erase the phone again.
You can also try to copy the backup folder from the old computer to the new one and see if the old backups get recognized, check this article to find the location on your PC:
Create and delete iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch backups in iTunes
If the photos were not taken with the phone, your data is gone, photos you sync from iTunes to the phone are not included in the backup.

  • "all files have been deleted..."

i noticed the other day that a good chunk of my songs were not playing properly. at random moments during songs a half second of another song would interrupt the current song and then skip forward one song. i thought i'd restore my ipod and reload all the songs again. now my computer is having trouble recognizing the ipod. i can only restore the ipod if the computer has been off for x amount of hours. once i restore the ipod and then try to transfer my library i get a warning that says that its having problems saving all the files to the ipod and that all files have been deleted. it will only save the first two songs of the library. if i try to play the second song the ipod freezes up. if i try to restore the ipod again the computer will not recognize it unless i turn off the computer and wait. i've tried resetting the ipod while still connected to the computer but to no avail. i've tried this numerous times. hopefully someone out there can help.

    CarlaR2010,
I take it that your mum has not made a habit of making regular backups to an external disk?
There are data recovery services that can often recover deleted files; however, their services are quite expensive. To maximize the chance of recovery, have your mum do a shut down from the Apple menu and don’t use the MacBook Pro again until you’ve chosen a data recovery service, given them your MacBook Pro, and have received it back from them.

  • Since update, all songs have been deleted and i can't turn ipod off. HELP!!

since update, all songs have been deleted and i can't turn ipod off!! I updated the itunes software last week and the next time I synced the ipod, it immediately deleted all songs. After further investigation, i realized that my songs are still in itunes. Under the music tab, it shows the capacity and the content of the ipod. It used to have 4 gb of audio on there and now it have no audio and 4 gb of 'other' files. what does this mean? i can still see the songs in the library list, but i can't even make a playlist with them. When I click on playlist, nothing happens. Also, I can't turn the ipod off since the update. Please send any advice my way.
    Thanks,
    regan101

yes, and the problem is unresolved. i really feel that the problem is occuring with the itunes program and not the ipod. thanks, though.

  • Startup disk almost full but cannot log on to delete items

when I start up my MacBook air it said "start up disk almost full" but I cannot even log on my act to get to my home screen to attempt to delete stuff... what do I do?

    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.

  • How do i get rid of old files previously networked to Distributed Sytem Manager so as to create a new network file, all files have been deleted off my laptop already?

6 old network files keep showing up in Labview even though they have been deleted from both labview and removed from my laptop. Why does labview insist on keeping them in this history as now it will not allow me to network a new file
    All help appreciated.

Got this issue resolved, basicaly what was happening was in the distributed system manager old copys of libraries which I had created previously and deleted kept showing up in my networked items and i could not delete them, what i had to do was to stop process and remove process on any that were showing up then reboot my laptop and this deleted them off the system altogether, this was time consuming for me as I had a load of old libraries to delete before i could network my new library. Eventually got it working after my laptop reboots.

  • HT201250 how can I check that all photos have been backed up in time machine

I have used Time Machine for the first time to back up my Macbook Air. Macbook Air's iPhoto shows approx 5200 pictures on file.
How can I check that the external hard drive (Time Machine) has all 5200 saved correctly before deleting the photos from the Macbook Air ?

The only way to check a back up is to do a restore of it.
However, why are you deleting your photos from the MBA? If you do they will also be deleted from Time Machine eventually. TM keeps a rolling back up of your machine. It copies and maintains your additions and deletions. Eventually, these photos will be deleted from TM too. It's not an archiving app.

  • Hi there, since I upgraded my 5s to 8.0.2, I never haven't been able to download any of my purchased applications, about 800!, I read many pages , reset, restarted, restored, ... 1000 times, but all apps have been waiting, very disappointing apple!

Since I bought this device I enjoyed it, everywhere I suggested it to my friends and co-workers. Until I upgraded its iOS from 7.1.2 to 8.0.2. The battery usage is as quickly as a Ferrari, no applications of previously purchased can be re-downloaded (I had to restore it and I lost all of them during upgrading). Honestly they really disappointed me. I have done any offer I read and saw on webpages, it's my same ID and nothing has changed. I reset all settings, network settings, used another Wi-Fi, used 3G, synced with my itunes on my laptop, and solutions you can think about during these couple of weeks. I expect apple to do something for the loyal customers which prefer their great company to another ones. Thanks so Much.

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

  • Help! Photos have been deleted!!

I'm panicking because I think I've deleted my vacation photos & videos from my new iPhone 5S. I used it to take the photos before I set it up. Then I synced it to my existing iPhone profile on my Macbook (which was from my old iPhone 4S) without importing the photos first. And now the vacation photos have disappeared from my iPhone 5S and instead all the photos from my old iPhone 4S are on my new iPhone 5S. Please please please help me! These were photos & videos of my recent vacation with my little daughter and they are irreplaceable.

Were the pics on you computer and you were sending from computer to phone?
Or on the phone and you were sending from phone to computer?
Windows XP opens camera and scanner wizard when phone is plugged in (default)and saves pictures to my pictures>20100919(date of download)
Look in my pictures and see if you have a folder named the date you plugged in the phone, the pics should be in there.
Windows normally leaves the photos in the phone's camera roll unless you open camera and scanner wizard and check the box to delete photos.
But sometimes stuff happens we don't anticipate.

  • All sms have been deleted on N97. Can i get them b...

How do you backup text messages (SMS) to prevent this in the future?
All my 569 sms have now been deleted when I switched off the phone and turned it on again. What a **bleep** telephone!!!

You can connect the phone to the PC and run either PC Suite or Ovi Suite. The former lets you export messages in Nokia or standard .csv format, I don't know what the latter uses but it will let you do it.
Have you checked that the message memory hasn't switched from Mass Memory to Phone Memory or vice versa? Doing that would make it seem that your messages were AWOL.
