IPhoto does not convert RAW's to jpeg's after modifying pictures

iPhoto no longer converts modified RAW photos to jpeg. I've tried checking and unchecking the option in Preferences for saving modified photos to TIFF. Makes no difference. Modified photos remain RAW.

I think you'll find that they do, but that the Info window reports them as Raw.
Simple Test: Select one of the edited pics and go File -> Export, Kind: Current or drag to the desktop and it will yield a tiff (or Jpeg) as you selected.

Do you have Aperture installed? I found your model on a compatibility list; however, there was a note that it requires Aperture 2 to be installed:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
    According to this excerpt:
To see a list of digital cameras with RAW-format support that are compatible with iPhoto, visit this Aperture webpage (any camera compatible with Aperture, Apple’s advanced photo editing and management program, is compatible with iPhoto as well)
which is at the bottom of this page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/9.0/en/pht41627265.html
I may be wrong, but I interpret that info to mean you need Aperture 2 before iPhoto will work with RAW?

  • IPhoto does not see any changes after editing a photo in Camera Raw

    Hello everyone ,
I have some small problem with my iPhoto. I have set up Camer Raw in iPhoto as  External Editor, so when I click on edit in IPhoto,
automatically opens my JPG in Camera Raw. After editing in Camera Raw I'm clicking on ,,Save image" then destination is ,,Save in same location" When I go back to iPhoto to the same photo, iPhoto does not show any changes I have made in Camera Raw.
What could it be or should I set something in iPhoto or in Camera Raw?
Is there a chance in order to deal with this?
I will be grateful for any assistance and
    I'm waiting for advice
    Dawid

Any time a RAW file is edited in any 3rd party editor from within iPhoto it MUST be saved to the Desktop and imported as a new file. There's no other way to do it.  So the photos you've edited and saved are somewhere in the iPhoto Library folder system but cannot be recognized and used by iPhoto.
The following is geared for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements but might have some info relevant for you:
Using Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop Elements 9 as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
s  I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • HOW TO CONVERT RAW FILES TO JPEG RGB 8 BIT in iphoto

Can someone please tell me how to convert RAW files to jpeg RGB 8 bit in iphoto on an iMac?

How are you trying to "export to Mypics"? The only way to get a Raw out of iPhoto is to export with the Kind set to Original.

You can do just about anything with a JPEG image that you can with a raw image. The advantage of working with raw is that it is possible to work with more extremes in exposure. More highlights and shadows can be recovered in a raw image, but there is a lot that can be done with JPEG images as well. All of the library functions and keywording and all the other features of Lightroom can be used on JPEG images just as easily as they can be used on raw images.
Having said all that, you might be more comfortable using Photoshop Elements. Both programs have trial versions that you can use for 30 days to decide which one or whether both will work for you. It would probably be to your advantage to try them out and decide for yourself.

  • IPhoto does not support Canon Powershot S45 RAW Format

    Hi,
It seems iPhoto does not support Canon Powershot S45 RAW file format. Can this be added to be supported!?
Does anyone know how to report this to Apple and request this as a feature enhancement?

    Or this link: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • IPhoto does not support Olympus Raw

Understand that IPhoto does not support Olympus Raw, and since IPhoto will disappear from support next year, will the new Photo support this version of Raw?

It isn't just iPhoto - if RAW is supported, it will also be in Aperture and ( I believe, but am not sure) in Image Capture.
    babowa,
I think, only Aperture and iPhoto are supported.
See the requirements in the Raw Compatibility updates:
    Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01
    System Requirements OS X 10.10 w/ iPhoto 9.6 or Aperture 3.6

  • Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the  Canon Sureshot S95

Have just bought the new Canon Sureshot S95
after contacting Adobe support I am told Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the
    Canon Sureshot S95.
Come on Adobe.....please provide an update asap.

    (1) Well Boss I did what you said and used Canon DPP to convert to TIFFs. Choices are 8-bit TIFF or 16-bit TIFF - I chose 16-bit because part (90% part) of the reason for wanting to work in RAW is to keep the bit depth of teh original. On my EOS 40D it is supposedly 14 bits, which gives great scope to play with the levels & curves without seeing poster effects. If I choose 16 bit TIFF then each S95 image becomes a 70MB file, parallel to my JPEG and RAW.  Hardly a satisfactory solution.
(I realise, however, that I don't actually know the bit depth of the S95 RAW file - anybody? ).
    (2) SUGGESTION-  even if you are adding S95 support to the next update (which I dearly hope), be kinder to those with new cameras in general and allow LR to import JPEGs if it cannot import the RAWs (overriding if necessary the 'ignore JPEG' preference setting).  I am sure users with that preference would still prefer a JPEG than no picture at all!
Since I discovered this compatibility problem, I switched the camera to record RAW+JPEG*. To my great irritation LR3 ignores the JPEGs even though it cannot load the RAWs.  So if I want to import from one supported camera (EOS40D) and one unsupported camera (S95) I have to keep going into preferences to switch on and off the 'ignore JPEG' function.

  • Preview in OSX 10.7.5 does not recognize RAW files from Canon EOS 6D

What must I do so that I can see downloaded RAW photos from my new Canon 6D in "Preview" in my iMac's OSX 10.7.5?  Preview does show photos from my earlier Canons fine.  My older version of Aperture can open the 6D's files, as can, of course, Photoshop.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Preview does not support RAW - only Aperture, a newer iPhoto version, and third party software will handle it. Does your Canon come with the Digital Photo Professional software from Canon? That should be compatible with RAW as well.
Mountain Lion appears to have more compatibilities:

  • DNG converter not converting RAW files from Canon 70D.

DNG converter not converting RAW files from Canon 70D (it does not see them). I tried DNG converter version 8.2 and 8.4. No success. I use iMac. What is wrong?

hopefully, that's a typo on adobe's website because they list the canon 70d as using a .cs2 file extension, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
i don't see any other camera that uses a .cs2 extension and i don't see other people having problems, so that probably is a typo.
in any case, cr 8.2 or better is able to convert your camera's raw files.  why you are having a problem i can't say, but double check that you are navigating to the correct folder by adding a file that will show up in your dng converter.

I have cs5 and bought new camera olympus e-m1 photoshop does not open raw files is there a patch for it?

    Familiarize yourself with these tables
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
The E-M1 was first supported by Camera Raw 8.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and CC. It is not compatible with CS5 or lower and never will be.
    Some options:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all the Raw E-M1 files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5

  • How do you convert Raw files into jpeg.

I have never shot in Raw before and I have a huge project due tomorrow. I need help Asap. What is the easiest way to convert Raw files into jpeg, can Light Room convert the files. I have tried so many different ways and nothing seems to work.

    michaelfragale wrote:

It depends on the sofware you have.  ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) hosted by Bridge or by Photoshop can convert ("open") raw files, as can Lightroom.
However, not all camera models are supported by all versions of the software.  We need to know the make and exact model of the camera that generated the raw files to advice you further.
We can also assist you with the conversion through ACR hosted by Photoshop.
Olease note that there are dedicated forums for Lightroom, for Adobe Camera Raw and for Bridge.
Here's the list of which cameras are supported by each version of ACR.  Note that later versions supporte all camera models supported in previous versions of ACR.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html
    Note that the latest version of ACR to run in CS4 is ACR 5.3;
    CS3 runs ACR 4.6;
    CS2 runs ACR 3.7;
    CS runs 2.4.

  • Am I able to convert RAW files to jpegs on Photoshop Elements?

Am I able to convert RAW files to jpegs on Photoshop Elements?

    Hi,
Sorry, but with the information you have given, the only answer I can give is "possibly".
Each camera model produces a slightly different raw format - even different models by the same manufacturer and even if they have the same extension (file type). The latest cameras will not be supported by older versions of Photoshop Elements although there is a converter which can help.
To give you a better answer, we need to know
    1) The camera make and model
    2) The version of Photoshop Elements that you are using
    3) The operating system that you are running on.
