IPhoto does NOT delete to iPhoto trash ?

Hey everyone,
This is very frusterating. iPhoto once upon a time would send my delted photos to the iPhoto trash, then I could empty from there. Now it only deletes them from my "album" and does not move them to the iPhoto trash to be emptied?
I even tried to drag the selected files to the iPhoto trash and still no go. The icon is there but it isn't working. I have to manually delete the unwanted photos from the "original" = pain in my *
I had to back up over 3,000 photos this morning and try an re-install - still nothing>?
Anyone have this issue - any help would be mucho appreciated
Will

Dragging an app from an Album to the trash removes the pic from the Album.
Dragging a pic from the Library (Photos or Events view, doesn't matter) and emptying the trash removes the pic from the Library and the HD in a Managed Library.
I have to manually delete the unwanted photos from the "original" = pain in my *
Do you mean you removed the pic from the Originals folder in the Finder? If so, then you've just trashed your Library.

  • IPhoto does not delete photos.

    Hi All,
I'm having some trouble deleting photos from iPhoto. My steps for deleting photos are this.
    1. Find the photo I want to delete in events (have tried this in the 'photo' tab also)
    2. Select the photo and press cmd - backspace to delete the photo.
    3. Empty the iPhoto trash.
    4. This is where I get confused, I check back in events/photos and its still there.
Why does it not delete from my computer?
    I am running snow leopard = 10.6.2
    And obviously iPhoto '09.
The same happened on my parents Mac Mini downstairs running the same version of snow leopard and iPhoto.
    Please help,
    Ollie

By backspace you mean the Delete key, right? Do you or have you confirmed that the photos are in the iPhoto Trash before emptying it via the IPhoto->Empty iPhoto Trash menu option?
If yes to all the above you may have a damaged library. Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.

  • IPhoto does not delete any photo's

    Dear all,
I am setting up everything on my girlfriends new MacBook Air and everything is working so far. But now I have set up iPhoto for her and imported her photo's but she is not able to delete any photo's. I also tried to do it by accessing her library but that did not work either. When I delete the master and/or thumbnail file from her library it still appears in the iPhoto program itself. But then she can't open it anymore and still is not able to delete it. The delete option does appear when you do right click but it does not do anything when you click on it.
I have tried to restore here library but that did not work and I also tried to delete the whole iPhoto library and create a new one. After that the same problem still occurred.
She is running OS X Mountain Lion and her MacBook Air is bought last month (so it is the newest model). She has all the updates installed so that should not be the problem either.
Hope someone can help me here.
    Jacco Verburg
PS: sorry for my bad English; it is not my native language.

    Can you clarify:
I also tried to do it by accessing her library but that did not work either
What do you mean by her "Library"? Do you mean what you see in the iPhoto Window ? Or do you mean the iPhoto Library in the Finder?
When I delete the master and/or thumbnail file from her library it still appears in the iPhoto program itself.
Again, is this is the iPhoto Library Package in the Pictures Folder? If so:
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You've just trashed her Library if you have.
    To delete from iPhoto:
    1. You need to be in Events of Photos View... Drag an Image to the iPhoto Trash. Empty it. Then Empty the System Trash.

  • Desktop photo from iPhoto does not appear in iPhoto

MacBook Pro, approximately one year old, OS 10.8.5 and iPhoto '11
In System Preferences>Desktop and Screen Saver, I have the Desktop set to use iPhoto, changing randomly every 1 minute. Some photos it uses are not photos that appear anywhere in iPhoto. Today I saw one go by that I want to access and use for other purposes, but it's not in iPhoto! Could the Desktop rotation be accessing photos in some other form?

If your iPhoto library is offline, or you switched between iPhoto libraries, the System preferences will revert to using the system default photos instead.
All System default Desktop pictures are stored in the system library. Perhaps you can find the photos you are looking for in this folder:
/Library/Desktop Pictures/  (in Lion or later, if I remember correctly)
Open the "Library" folder at the top level of your Macintosh HD and open the folder "Desktop Pictures".  Be careful, when you browse this folder. Don't change anything.

  • IPhoto does not remember faces when I name them in another person's batch

I have been tagging faces in iPhoto 11 for the last few hours on my Retina MBP. In severeal cases I used the option of naming the face when it appeared in the wrong person's batch (ctrl+click > name). But then the "named" photos do not appear in that person's list of photos.
I.e. - I have 26 potential photos of Bob. I go through them and see a photo of Dan. I ctrl+click on that photo and choose "name" and then type in Dan. After I am done with Bob's photos I go to Dan's folder (via the Faces corkboard) and I do not see the photo I named before anywhere.

Faces has identified the wrong person.
Actually iPhoto does not identify people - iPhoto suggests and you confirm or reject so you confirmed incorrectly (which happens to all of us)
How do I re-assign to the correct person?
double click on the photo to open it and click on "name" and type the correct name for the person
Mary and Jane are in a group picture and have been identified by iPhoto, not me.
In Mary's Faces album, Jane's picture is the thumbnail. In a way, the group picture is correct. I would rather have all of Mary's thumbnails show Mary.
The choice offered by iPhoto is accept or reject. Going into Edit for the pictures does not give the option to identify faces.
If you reject the person will remain un-named- and in the confirm names mode (starting with version 8.0.2) if you right click (control click) on the photo you can accept, reject or name
I am reluctant to reject because the group picture may not show up again.
You can always make a smart album with name is unnamed and find all photos with unnamed people (started in version 8.0.2)

  • When I upload photos to iPhoto from my iPhone and then press delete from iPhone it does not delete them, how do I fix this?

When I upload photos to iPhoto from my iPhone and then press delete from iPhone it does not delete them, how do I fix this?

I am having the same problems as this person. I see that someone said there is no way to retrieve the pictures once it gets stuck in recovery mode.
Then further along someone said that there are data retrieval methods except they have something to do with jail breaking a phone.
My phone is already jail broken. It was kind of a gift from the company I work for- it was a fellow employees before. He jail broke it and then it was given to me. After I got it I activated the 4 and tried to back up everything. It didn't work and "Springboard" forced the phone into safety mode. So I could use it with the old dude's apps and my contacts. I made the mistake of using the phone for wedding dress shopping with a friend. I took tons of pictures.
After this I found out the messages I was seeing meant it was jail broken. At&t said to force restore the phone - iTunes wouldn't recognize it in safety mode. I'm an idiot and didn't realize what this meant for my pictures. It didn't work (error 1611) - thankfully. Now it is stuck in recovery mode (iTunes icon and USB cable picture).
Can I access that media in any way? It never suceeded restoring itself so is it still there? The phone is jail broken already so is there a method I can use?

  • IPhoto is not deleting my photo and freezes. Please help.

I updated my iPhoto and now I am organizing and deleting some photos however it does not delete.
I tried cutting it and it went to trash in iPhoto, and tried clearing the trash bin and it does not do anything.
I also tried in the General tab to delete a photo and it freezes.
It must be a bug on the latest update.
    Any thoughts?

Oppps. just cheked and open the program while online and it finally worked.

  • Photos not deleting in iPhoto

Photos are not deleting in iPhoto library. When I select a photo and hit delete they photo does not delete and the next photo is highlighted. I've tried to drag photos to the iPhoto trash but that doesn't work either. I was having similar problems when working in the iPhoto library on my Air and had to rebuild the library/thumbnails. It also will not merge two Events together. This was the same problem I had before I rebuilt the library. This worked for a little (an hour) while but am now having the same issues. I am syncronizing my libraries with Chronosync but haven't ran into this problem before. I'm using iPhoto 9.

I am in the process of organizing all my photos (around 24,000), starting to name Faces, merging Events, rating photos, and deleting photos. After I work a while I run into this problem above.

  • IPhoto does not quit

    I am having two issues:
    1. Cannot delete some photos
    2. iPhoto does not want to quit - I end up having to force quit the computer.
After reading through some earlier posts, I tried downloading Library Manager to Rebuild my library, but that would not work either.

    Terence,
Firstly I apologise for anything that I have written that may have upset or angered you, and I shall endeavour to explain everything I have tried and the results.
(I did read the terms and conditions of posting on here, and my comment about anyone from Apple suggesting what the problem could be was a request to anyone who had had the same problem, to see if they had any info from Apple that could be shared. I do realise that there are not people who work for Apple on this site. Sorry if this offended you.)
Firstly - I have tried rebuilding the iphoto library by downloading library manager and by holding down alt and cmd when launching iphoto. Had no error messages at all. Still the same problem.
I also went into my library and deleted the iphoto preference list. (Emptied trash before launching iphoto again).
I launched iphoto and tried to delete photos and it froze again, would not quit.
I ran permissions on the disk utility also.
I held down the alt key and created a new library - no, the problem does not occur on this library after deleting photos. It deletes them and quits quite happily.

  • I cannot run iPhoto after update to Yosemite.  I cannot update iPhoto because the application store does not have any iPhoto update available.  Anyone can advice how to overcome this hassle?

After update to Yosemite 10.10.3 the iPhoto program icon is banned and there is an error message that an update is required to run iPhoto, but the application store shows a message that iPhoto does not have any update available at this time.  There is not even any iPhoto program available on the application store.  Any suggestion on how to solve this annoyance?

Unfortunately, Apple has removed both iPhoto and Aperture from the Mac App Store so they cannot be downloaded anymore. This means you are forced to migrate to Photos (included in OS X 10.10.3) or, if this app does not include features you need, look for a different app.
Not true. Apple has removed both Apps from App Store so you cannot buy them anymore. But if you have any of these Apps already purchased in the past, then you can still download them on your Mac.

Open App Store, sign in with your Apple ID and go to Purchases tab. If you see iPhoto app listed there close down the App Store and do this steps as this is what worked for me:
Open Finder and go to Applications folder.
    Locate iPhoto app
Drag iPhoto app from your Applications folder to Trash (NOTE: Do not emptied Trash yet)
Open App Store app and navigate to Purchases tab.
Click on Install button which is next to the iPhoto app (on the right hand side).
Once iPhoto is downloaded again, test it if its working for you. If all is ok, you can remove your Trash.

Since updating iPhoto it has ceased to open.  I have tried to Hold down the Command and Option keys on the keyboard which is the suggested solution to then open a suggested solution to rebuild the library,  but it does not work.  iPhoto still does not open.  can someone please help?
    thank you

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
        Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache folder(s):
    Home/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
and, if there is one, the
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • Since upgrading to Maverick my iPhoto does not consistently download my Nikon or my Canon camera photos.

Since upgrading to Maverick my iPhoto does not consistently download my Nikon or my Canon camera photos. Occasionally it will recognize and download photos, most of the time though it hangs in "loading" mode with nothing downloaded. I've unplugged, replugged numerous times, tried a different USB port, tried the two cameras so it's not the camera or line that's the issue, turned the computer off, turned iphoto off, turned everything else off and stil nothing. I need my photos for my work and can't get to them, this seems to be an issue with Maverick AGAIN!!! Is there a fix? HELP! Thanks!

    iPhoto Version 9.5.1
Thank you for your help Terence. I had 140 photos on my Nikon, none were viewable in iphoto, in Image Capture 5 were viewable, 135 weren't. I tried importing one to my desktop but it remained static and didn't move over. I just deleted all the photos on my camera, took a fresh photo and after waiting a good 4 minutes finally uploaded to both iphoto and Image Capture. As this took so long for one photo I'm wondering if the memory in my computer would impact the speed. I have 350GB used and 150GB left
By reformat the cards do you mean the flash card in the camera? I don't know how to do that, it's less that 6 months old.

  • IPhoto does not recognize iPhone4/Does not download Camera Roll

I have tried to download my photos and videos from Camera Roll on my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1.1) into my iPhoto '09. It used to do it automatically a year ago, but now iPhoto does not respond when I plug in my phone through the USB connector cable.
    1. I have tried this: http://leimobile.com/faq-how-to-fix-ios-5-photo-sync-issues/ by deleting the iPod Photo Cache, but iPhoto still does not respond when I plug my iPhone into my Mac.
    2. I have  tried Image Capture, but it did not recognize my iPhone 4 either. It does "download" the JPG files but the program stalls as it waits to detect a camera device.
    3. I have turned off Photo Stream in my iPhone Settings menu.
Please help, because I need to have many photos from Camera Roll onto my computer for work... I am sending the important ones one by one through email!

Restarted my computer... iPhoto now recognizes my iPhone.

  • Re-installed iPhoto Does not appear in Finder/Applications

I had iPhoto on my MBPro and attempted to transfer my iPhotos from my iMac to it. I was not satisfied with the transfer so I sent photos and iPhoto to Trash. I then re-installed iLife but after installation, I can not find iPhoto.app in Finder or on doc or on laptop.
Where should I look for iPhoto?
    What should I have done/not have done/should do/ or not do/ Now?
I really need to get the iPhotos albums and photos from iMac to MBPro before Tuesday of next week (06/09/09)
    Thanks for your help.
    I use iPhoto '08!
    Thanks.

iPhoto should be in the applications folder - if it is not delete all iPhoto receipts - "your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts==> - and install again
Note in the future the application is separate from the library - and you can have two different libraries for the same version on a machine (actually any number of libraries) and switch between them by launching iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and using the select library option

  • Changed icon now iPhoto does not respond

    Hi,
Can anyone help me, I went a bit silly changing my folder icons, but have now found that iPhoto does not work. I did change the icon for my pictures folder, and the data is still there, but now when I try to open iPhoto it just says 'loading library' and nothing happens. I am using iPhoto 4.0.3.
    Thanks
    G4 Powermac   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

HI, Stuart. Changing a folder's icon puts an invisible icon file inside the folder, so you changed your iPhoto Library folder's contents without iPhoto's participation or knowledge, and now iPhoto sees its database as damaged. This is a useful lesson in letting well enough alone, particularly where no useful purpose is actually served by your meddling. "Purely cosmetic" tweaks of the user interface can have more-than-cosmetic adverse effects on how things work (or don't).
Delete your custom icon from the folder, then hold down the Shift and Option keys while starting iPhoto. Keep holding them down until you're asked whether you want the database rebuilt. Say Yes and let iPhoto do its work. You will probably get everything back again in good shape.
If your adventures with custom icons haven't messed anything else up, you're probably lucky.
