IPhoto does not find some photos.

I use a desktop iMac (20-inch, early 2008), OS 10.7.5.
The iPhoto search feature refuses to find some of my photos from a recent upload.
I have eight recent photos of a Crane Hawk in my iPhoto library. I imported them and then labeled them, adding tags, as I've done with 10's of thousands of other photos. I wanted to find them using the search feature rather than digging through a large Event, but when I enter the words "Crane Hawk," I quickly get the five other Crane Hawk photos I've taken over the years, including two even more recent, but not these 8 that I was looking for. I know what event they are in and when I took them, so with some more time, I can go find the photos. But I should be able to bring them up with all my other Crane Hawk photos with the same search.
When I looked further into this, it appears that most if not all of the photos from this same upload won't appear with a search (I have filed them in different events).
I've checked for odd characters, typed, and retyped the photo title, even copied the photo title and pasted it into the search field – and they still won't appear. When I search using the file name (which I find by hovering the pointer over the image title in the upper right), it comes up fine. The search function just can't see the title of any of these photos. When I added the words "Crane Hawk" to the description field of one of the photos, it appears iimmediately with the search, but there are about 500 photos from this recent upload that search won't find.
I've tried suggestions on adding the Pictures folder to the Spotlight privacy panel, then removing it, but that doesn't help (is the search function within iPhoto really Spotlight anyway?)
Thanks for your time.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto can not find several photos, shows icon, but not pic itself and I did not move anything

I have more then 12'000 photos on iPhoto. After the last update it shows me all pics in the small icons, but when I click on them, severals are not whown - a black background with a grey triangle opens and a "!" in the mid. I suppose this means that iPhoto can not find the data. I already looked into the database and the files are really not there. But I did NOT move them! What happened? What can I do? (I would highly appreciate if I would not have to check every single photo and reimport it again!!!) Thank you in advance for your help!

  • IPhoto does not delete any photo's

    Dear all,
I am setting up everything on my girlfriends new MacBook Air and everything is working so far. But now I have set up iPhoto for her and imported her photo's but she is not able to delete any photo's. I also tried to do it by accessing her library but that did not work either. When I delete the master and/or thumbnail file from her library it still appears in the iPhoto program itself. But then she can't open it anymore and still is not able to delete it. The delete option does appear when you do right click but it does not do anything when you click on it.
I have tried to restore here library but that did not work and I also tried to delete the whole iPhoto library and create a new one. After that the same problem still occurred.
She is running OS X Mountain Lion and her MacBook Air is bought last month (so it is the newest model). She has all the updates installed so that should not be the problem either.
Hope someone can help me here.
    Jacco Verburg
PS: sorry for my bad English; it is not my native language.

    Can you clarify:
I also tried to do it by accessing her library but that did not work either
What do you mean by her "Library"? Do you mean what you see in the iPhoto Window ? Or do you mean the iPhoto Library in the Finder?
When I delete the master and/or thumbnail file from her library it still appears in the iPhoto program itself.
Again, is this is the iPhoto Library Package in the Pictures Folder? If so:
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You've just trashed her Library if you have.
    To delete from iPhoto:
    1. You need to be in Events of Photos View... Drag an Image to the iPhoto Trash. Empty it. Then Empty the System Trash.

  • IPhoto 9 does not show any photo of old Mac Mini's iPhoto 7 library

I'm trying to migrate an 80GB iPhoto library from my old Mac Mini to a new iMac. The old Mac Mini has iPhoto version 7. The new iMac iPhoto 9.
When I copied the complete library, iPhoto does not show any photos. How can I fix this? I already tried:
Using iPhoto Library Upgrader – however it shows: Your library can open with the current version of iPhoto and does not need to be prepared with this tool.
Using iPhoto's rebuilding etc functions on both Macs – this does not do the trick
Using iPhoto Library Manager – also shows 0 photo and rebuilding does not work.
    Anybody knows a solution?
    Thanks!

    Doesn't work :
It is also quite strange that iPhoto just opens the library without any warnings, but without showing any of the content (photos, albums, etc.)

  • Premiere Elements 9 does not find photos

I cannot open old projects because PE9 does not find the photos and if I start with a new project PE9 cannot upload not any type of files.

And where are these photos located?
This is very, very important. Assuming that you are talking about Premiere Elements, the PREL (Project file) does NOT contain any media - none of any kind. It only contains links to where those media files were located, when they were Imported into the Project. Those links are absolute Paths, so that if anything changes, such as drive letter/Volume, file name, folder name, etc., the link is broken, and PrE cannot locate the file any longer.
Again, and assuming Premiere Elements, this article goes into more detail on the structure of the PREL (Project file): http://forums.adobe.com/message/3392837#3392837

  • IPhoto does not recognize old backup of library

I have a iPhoto library backup disk (dvd) that dates back to 2006. Iphoto does not recognize the photos and they will not open. How do I get to see the photo's?
    Iphoto 11
iMac 2.4 ghz intel core duo
    OS 10.6.8

The only thing I can think of is that the Library is corrupted in some way. Unusual that the main computer can access it - though it rebuilds the thumbs each time, whiile the other two cannot. I suspect that the permissions warnings are bogus.
Neither of the other machines would be able to read that library without updating it, and in fact, once the 9.5.1 version updates it, the 9.4.3 version wouldn't  be able to read it either.
But either way, each library should ask to upgrade it upon opening, that the don't suggests that the Library is damaged.
You need to decide what version you want to want to view this library with - as you can't view it with either of the other two once you upgrade it. Then from that machine rebuild the Library with iPhoto Library Manager.
• IPhoto can not find the original photo, does iPhoto copy the photo or just make a thumbnail?

    Hi,
I'm scanning and putting all of my (paper) photos into my computer and then into iPhoto, tagging them, and doing all the time consuming things necessary to build a good library.
I've tried to open a few of the events and look at the photos I put in but I get an error that iPhoto can not find the original photo.  When I put a photo into iPhoto does the program only make a thumbnail copy with a link to the original, or does it actually copy the photo into the library?  I'm thinking the former.  Because I have a Time Machine backup, a hard copy, and (presumably) a copy in iPhoto, I have been deleting the photos AFTER putting them into iPhoto.  Do I need to keep the photos I put in iPhoto on my computer?  Will I need to go into TM and restore them?  Will I loose the information like Faces, Places, Keywords, if I do?
    Thank you much,
    I'm working with 9.1.2

I have exactly the same problem except my photo is named "L1000093.jpg" and it's been there for a year now, but suddenly, when I wanted to view it in it's album, ("Favorite" which has been there for a year too), it says "The photo P1010311.jpg cannot be found"!!!  What the heck is going on?  So I canceled, went back to the album, clicked on L1000093, clicked "show event", went over to Event, clicked "reveal in finder" and there it is, iPhoto Library/Master/blah blah blah... L1000093.jpg!
Where the hack did that P1010311.jpg came from?  Sure I have that photo, but it's in a completely different event and a different album!  What's is iPhoto 11 / Lion / iTunes 10.5.3(3) up to?
So I threw L1000093jpg into the trash, went into Lightroom, find the original, re-export it, load it again into iPhoto, added it again to the album (favorite), and guess what?  I just did all those and the same "The bloody photo cannot be found" message popped up and when I go to finder, there it is.
This is a bug.  It's been a bug since 2006 as far as I can remember.  And Apple had never done a complete fix.  It's an if thing!
And the most frustrating part:  Althought they call this an Apple forum and you have to sign in to participate, I have never seen one Apple software guy here saying "this is what to do", just us victims helping each other and many non-Apple folks guessing to the best of their ability to comfort us.
Oh, toys are toys.  I sometimes wonder if Steve had fought so hard yet the cancer in Apple actually won!

  • Spotlight does NOT find iPhoto keywords

    Hi,
maybe you guys can help me.
Spotlight does not find any of my iPhotos attached with keywords.
My System is: Mac OS 10.4.4 and iPhoto 6 (5 did not work either).
This is what I have tried so far:
    - repaired permissions more then once
    - rebuilt the spotlight database through the terminal
    - marked my iPhoto folder as privacy in the spotlight preferences and unmarked it
    - removed all keywords (1. try: marked all together; 2. try: marked all together and put them in a new empty list) , closed iPhoto, opened it and gave all an dummy keyword; removed the dummy keyword and assigned one-by-one for some iPhotos new keywords
    - archived the iPhoto database and let it built up by iPhoto again
    - ran the comboupdater of 10.4.4 again
The last try I am thinking on is a "archive&install" of Tiger but maybe you have another idea???
PS: Whats strange is that when I look at the processes while assigning keywords, the process 'mdimport' starts to work... but again, Spotlight does not find the iPhotos by keywords.

I also had this happen to me several times. Once when I first moved to OS X 10.4 and again when I had to reload my computer. Each time I had archived my iPhoto library to a second drive, installed the OS on a clean formated drive and then copied the iPhoto Library back into my home directory.
From that point, Spotlight would refuse to search for files via keywords. That is, until I updated the photo. By select each photo and changing somthing about the photo, wether editing the photo, changing its star rating to something else and back again, or even adding keywords to the photo, even putting a comment of a blank space in for each photo, doing anything to the photo that would update the xml file would cause that entry to get updated and in turn allow the photo to be searchable by keyword via Spotlight.
There are scripts available that can actually put the iPhoto keywords into the photo file iteself. The one I am using also needs to have GraphicConverter installed. This way I can search either through iPhoto or Adobe Bridge for the Photos that I want to use.

  • IPhoto does not see any changes after editing a photo in Camera Raw

    Hello everyone ,
I have some small problem with my iPhoto. I have set up Camer Raw in iPhoto as  External Editor, so when I click on edit in IPhoto,
automatically opens my JPG in Camera Raw. After editing in Camera Raw I'm clicking on ,,Save image" then destination is ,,Save in same location" When I go back to iPhoto to the same photo, iPhoto does not show any changes I have made in Camera Raw.
What could it be or should I set something in iPhoto or in Camera Raw?
Is there a chance in order to deal with this?
I will be grateful for any assistance and
    I'm waiting for advice
    Dawid

Any time a RAW file is edited in any 3rd party editor from within iPhoto it MUST be saved to the Desktop and imported as a new file. There's no other way to do it.  So the photos you've edited and saved are somewhere in the iPhoto Library folder system but cannot be recognized and used by iPhoto.
The following is geared for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements but might have some info relevant for you:
Using Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop Elements 9 as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
s  I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • IPhoto can not find photo

Upgraded to iphoto 11.  then iphoto could not find photos even though they are on my Hard Disk.
    Whats up with this?
i manually located the  photos one at a time. This is for 400 photos one at a time?  this is crazy  man.
it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Help. This eats up too much time.

it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
It does.  You must have a damaged library.  You say you upgraded to iPhoto 9 (11).  What warning does iPhoto give you when you try to use it?
If you went inside the iPhoto Library package and moved photos around that will damage/corrupt the database that iPhoto uses.i t should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Explain what you're seeing and what steps you took to fix the problem.  Then we can attempt to suggest an approach to fix the problem.

  • Iphoto 11/Part of Ilife does not display all photos in "photos" or "events"

I am running latest version of everything, just loaded ILife. Iphoto 11 does not show "ALL" photos when I use "photo" or "event" view. It shows some....when I cycle down through the Blank images in these views, it will often show the pictures as I mouse click down.....but as soon as I take my finger off the mouse, everything (well, almost everything) reverts to blanks.
There is nothing selected to be hidden.
I have "Faces" set up and now when i look through an individual "Face" file, there will be intermittent Blanks.
    Very screwy, anybody Help????

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto does not show photos in my iPhone

    Hi!
As the title has said, my iPhoto does not show photos from my iPhone, but it DOES recognize that iPhone is connected.
But before all of this happened, I changed my setting (which I forgot how to reset that) to NOT open iPhoto automatically when my phone is connected.
And also, a week ago, my iPhone usb cable seems to be spoiled at one end. It can still connect the phone to the laptop, but very loosely - as if some wires inside are broken.
So I really do not know if the problem I mentioned is caused by my setting OR is it because of my spoiled cable (that it could not transfer the photos from the phone)
And if it is believed that it is caused by my setting, could you please guide me on how to re-set the whole thing?
    Thank you very much.
Ps. I can still sync my songs in itunes to my music in iPhone.

"But before all of this happened, I changed my setting (which I forgot how to reset that) to NOT open iPhoto automatically when my phone is connected."
    Launch iPhtoto.
    In the menu, iPhoto>Preferences>General.
    Change it back.
