Iphoto does not open

Hi,
Noticed this week that my iPhoto refuses to start. I have a mac-book pro with retina display, running OS X 10.9.
I get an iPhoto quit unexpectedly message. I copied some of the detail below. I looked in the posts on this webpage and i tried the "command-option" openning of iPhoto. I tried all options (repair, rebuild library, etc).
Anyone have any thoughts? Should I delete and reinstall iPhoto?
Thank you!

You can stop new photos being automatically added to Photostream in iPhoto from iPhoto preferences > Photostream.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library

  • I just downloaded iPhoto 9.1.5 from App store. Now iPhoto does not open. Mac is an OS X, version 10.6.8. What now?  by Joan E

I just downloaded iPhoto 9.1.5 from App. store. Now iPhoto does not open. What now?

    Same question.
Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • I made an upgrade to Mavericks and my iPhoto does not open, what should I do to recover iPhoto?

I made an upgrade to Mavericks and my iPhoto does not open, what should I do to recover iPhoto with all my photos?

what happens? What version of iPhoto do you have? For Mavericks you must have iPhoto '11 version 9.5 - if you own any version of iPhoto '11 it is a free update - if you own a previous version then you must purchase iPhoto '11 in the App store

  • IPhoto does not open with new Mt Lion

Just installed Mt Lion and cannot open iPhoto.  Purchased iPhoto Library Manager and can add new photos and have my old library rebuilt but still cannot open iPhoto. This is the response I get when tried "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable". In iPhoto library manager iPhoto will not open with the option/command key pressed. Could not rebuild/open it in Time Machine. Suggestions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Clicking on thumbnail in iPhoto does not open image for editing/viewing.

Clicking on images in iPhoto 7 does not open large images for editing or viewing. No ? or ! shows, just blank white screen with all buttons active as if the image is ready for editing. iPhoto library is about 50GB. What I've tried: created new library and imported 20 photos, rebuilt library w/keys using last 3 items in list, rebuilt library using iPhoto Library Manager. Quit everything, repaired permissions via Disk Utility. Nothing has worked. Was working fine a few days ago with same camera, same settings, etc. Utterly baffling, would love other suggestions?

  • After upgrading to Yosemite iPhoto does not open

After upgrading to Yosemite iPhoto will not work. Does not work even after installing iPhoto Library Upgrader. Any suggestions

Does not work even after installing iPhoto Library Upgrader. Any suggestions
You not only have to download the iPhoto Library Upgrader but you also have to run it on the library.  It'll be in the Applications/Utilities folder.  Double click on it to launch and it will automatically locate the last library you worked with and convert it.

  • IPhoto does not open after installing LION

After upgrade to Lion,  iphoto has trouble opening and once opened often freezes and crashes. Any ideas?

Quit iPhoto. Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". Thjen go to Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist and delete that file. Relaunch iPhoto.

  • Iphoto does not open with itunes when my iphone is connected.

I found an article about importing my photos from my phone that describes using iphoto to automatically import them. I cannot get iphoto to open when my iphone is connected tharefor, I can't get to the import screen or access my iphone with iphoto in any way.

Duh!  Yes iTunes does talk to the iPhone. But it's primarily for syncing photos from iPhoto to the phone and not the other way.
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try communicating with the iPhone again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help try repairing disk permisisons with Disk Utility and reboot your Mac.  Lastly give Image Capture a try to see if you can manually download the photos to a folder on your Desktop and then import the folder into iPhoto.
