Iphoto does not recognize jpg

After my latest upgrade, iphoto says it does not recognize jpg format. Help!

Search the forum. There are lots of posts from Kodak owners with a similar issue. Workaround: use a USB Card Reader, Reformat the card with your Camera.

  • Iphoto does not recognize .jpg format

Any advice on why iphoto will not recognize a format that it has in the past

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

I am trying to copy photos from an iPad to a Mac Air, but iPhoto does not recognize them. Please forgive the ignorance, but we have just started moving to apple products and I know nothing about them. Do you have to use PhotoStream to do this?

How did the photos that you want to copy off get on the iPad  ? To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a Mac you should be able to use iPhoto, Aperture or Image Capture
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • IPhoto does not  recognize formate of photos after lost os x 10.9 update

I have a macbook pro after last update iphoto does not recognize the formate of a lot of my pictures.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?  What do you mean by :does not recognize the formate of a lot of my pictures."? Are these photos already imported into the library?  What do you see when you open iPhoto?

  • Iphoto does not recognize email/password combo

I'm trying to email some pictures but it keeps saying that iphoto does not recognize my email or password combinations for both mine and my husbands accounts.

Have you got iPhoto as the email client or Mail?  If iPhoto go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane, deelete the email account, reboot, relaunch iPhoto and add the account back. Then try again.
Or, set Mail as the email client in iPhoto's General preference pane. It's a better way to go, IMO, as you have better access to Contacts, get a sent copy automatically and also have photo layouts to use in the Stationary/Photos section of Mail.

  • IPhoto does not recognize old backup of library

I have a iPhoto library backup disk (dvd) that dates back to 2006. Iphoto does not recognize the photos and they will not open. How do I get to see the photo's?
    Iphoto 11
iMac 2.4 ghz intel core duo
    OS 10.6.8

The only thing I can think of is that the Library is corrupted in some way. Unusual that the main computer can access it - though it rebuilds the thumbs each time, whiile the other two cannot. I suspect that the permissions warnings are bogus.
Neither of the other machines would be able to read that library without updating it, and in fact, once the 9.5.1 version updates it, the 9.4.3 version wouldn't  be able to read it either.
But either way, each library should ask to upgrade it upon opening, that the don't suggests that the Library is damaged.
You need to decide what version you want to want to view this library with - as you can't view it with either of the other two once you upgrade it. Then from that machine rebuild the Library with iPhoto Library Manager.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto does not recognize iPhone4/Does not download Camera Roll

I have tried to download my photos and videos from Camera Roll on my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1.1) into my iPhoto '09. It used to do it automatically a year ago, but now iPhoto does not respond when I plug in my phone through the USB connector cable.
    1. I have tried this: http://leimobile.com/faq-how-to-fix-ios-5-photo-sync-issues/ by deleting the iPod Photo Cache, but iPhoto still does not respond when I plug my iPhone into my Mac.
    2. I have  tried Image Capture, but it did not recognize my iPhone 4 either. It does "download" the JPG files but the program stalls as it waits to detect a camera device.
    3. I have turned off Photo Stream in my iPhone Settings menu.
Please help, because I need to have many photos from Camera Roll onto my computer for work... I am sending the important ones one by one through email!

Restarted my computer... iPhoto now recognizes my iPhone.

  • Elements 12 editor does not recognize .jpg

My Elements 12 image editor will not open a jpeg.  It will open a tiff and other files but not a file ending in .jpg.
For many years I have used Elements to open my iPhoto images and edit them. I used to use Elements 3, then Elements 6, and finally Elements 12.  Elements 12 worked fine up until last night when I could not make it open any iPhoto jpegs.  I have Elements 12 selected in my iPhoto Advanced Prefs to be the app to edit my iPhoto images.  It worked fine up until yesterday when it no longer would open an image.
I soon discovered my Elements 12 will not open any jpeg even if I were to drag an image from my desktop to the editor.  Some times I see a pop up note saying that my Elements 12  does not recognize a file ending with .jpg
If I double click several times on Edit in my iPhoto, Photo Ninja will open the image and tell me that Photo Ninja will now edit the image.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Mac Mini running OS X 10.9.4
Elements 12 installed from a purchased DVD
    iPhoto ver 9.5.1
Photo Ninja as a stand alone App.

Editor is set to print a 10.2 x 15.2 cm image on A4 paper in landscape
view and appears to be the right proportion in the preview pane.
"Editor is set to print a 10.2 x 15.2 cm image".
This is not clear to me. How/what is set?
    A4 paper is 29.7 cm x 21 cm.
Are you trying to fill this entire sheet of paper with one image, or are you trying to print a picture package?

  • IPhoto does not recognize Tiff format

I am trying to import my photos in TIFF ext however I get a response from iPhoto that it does not recognize the format.
    What I am doing wrong?
    thank You!

Did this test in the begging, and it doies not give me the option to create a new library.... : /
Then you're not holding the correct key or not holding it long enough while launching.
But I could import all to Aperture and then from iPhoto import the pictures......however when in the iPhoto library they have been "converted" to JPEG file and lost all quality...the same picture in Aperture (TIFF) has 36MB   while in the iPhoto after I imported 684KB!!
You need to understand how to use Aperture. You're getting the Aperture Previews, not the original files.

  • IPhoto Does Not Recognize File

No search. I have a file that iPhoto will not recognize. I made a jpeg and tiff, and it will open in Preview and Photoshop, but not iPhoto. Says it doesn't exist, or is corrupt. Neither is true. Any help is appreciated.

    Claude
Where is the file? Have you put it into the iPhoto Library Folder? iPhoto will not import pics from there - a sensible precaution against duplication.

Just solved this. I had to turn on PhotoStream. I turned it on, in both iPhotos and my iPhone 4. Now my iPhotos recognized my iPhone 4.

  • Iphoto 09 does not recognize .jpg images?????

Recently updated to 10.5.6 + iLife 09 +iWork 09 (box set). First time trying to add pictures to iPhoto 09 I get the following message...
    "Unreadable Files: 20
The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format)"
These files are .jpg, loaded from a Kodak camera to local drive using Image capture (so I can embed camera icc). The Finder reports the file as a jpg, and Photoshop reports file to be a jpg. Preview will open them without a problem. So what's up with iPhoto???
    Michael

Larry, first thanks for trying to help...
Where... ~/Pictures/Acquired from Camera. A folder I made just for this purpose, and have been using for "years."
The profile I am using (have been for years) is "KODAK Generic DCS Camera Input."
The initial test of saving from Preview did not work, however, a second test where I used Preview's "Assign Profile" to change the profile to sRGB, did allow the picture to be imported into iPhoto. (small yeah)
So I guess this means that iPhoto '09 does not like the default Kodak Camera profile.
I would love to close this thread, and call it solved, but I'm more inclined to call this a bug in '09. So much for Color Management. See, I really got better color by doing this, than if I imported the pictures straight from the camera to iPhoto. Would I really go thru the extra steps if it wasn't necessary?
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Iphoto does not recognize certain people

I have started identifying faces in iphoto. It recognizes a lot, and when rescanning will normally come back and say XXX might be in the following 8000 photos. But in one case (me) it shows the 700 identified ones, but then says there might be more in the following 32 photos, as if there were no more. When I search for someone else, I see another several hundred of me, so I know they are there.
What is the trick or work around to get it to see the rest when it looks for me?

I have the same problem as well. This is definitely a user issue for me as it only occurs in my account and not in a test account. Trashing Image Capture prefs and repairing permissions did not resolve the issue, nor did the above fix. I am not confident migrating all of my files to a new user would be a permanent solution since I have pretty extreme usage habits.
Here is an outline of everything that I've experienced related to this issue:
Neither iPhoto nor Image Capture recognizes my camera, iPhone or any of the dozen iPod Touches I use. It seemed that for awhile (maybe a five month span) it would take longer and longer for my iPhone to be recognized (I plug it in nearly every day as I require it for work) and I would use only Image Capture as it was dramatically faster at recognizing it.
My iPhone stopped being recognized completely about a week ago so I tried my digital camera with no luck. Taking the SD card out and using the SD slot worked, but I have no way to do this with the iPhone or any of my Touches. Image capture now shows my iPhone in the device list at all times (plugged in or not) with a pie as if it is in the middle of reading it. The only other things Image Capture recognizes is my SD card and my networked scanner.

  • IPhoto does not recognize my jpegs. I have already rebuilt the library.

I am using a datacard which is big (64G) and a new camera Panasonic DMC GM1. Other pictures are recognized.

What exactly is the problem? Any error messages? Will Image Capture see them? does the camera mount to the desktop so you can use the finder on the card?
without details we can snot help since we can not see your computer and have to depends on you providing information
Once you get the photos safely from the car to yrou mac use the camera's format command to reformat and erase the card
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
