IPhoto doesn't ask if I want to delete photos from my camera

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and then to iLife '09. I just imported photos from my camera. I clicked "Import All" and it did that, but it didn't ask me whether I wanted to delete the photos after importing, so I had to delete them one by one on my camera. Does anyone know why it's not asking me this?

Well as I said it's been reported in both iPhoto and Aperture, which pretty much rules out a "bug" in iPhoto, don't you think? And given the reported incidence of the issue (I've seen three) it would be a pretty esoteric "bug".
And what is "repair permissions"?

If that fails, try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

Ive downloaded my photos into iphoto from my Canon G10 and cannot find them. I inadvertantly deleted photos from my camera. Any chance to recover or find them?

Do they show in "last import" or in photos view?
You give us nothing to go on so we can only make really wild guesses
you may be able to  recover them on the camera card using software like media recover

  • IPhoto is asking if I want to delete photos on my camera?

Does this mean that it will delete all the photos in my iPhone but still keep them in iPhoto on my computer?

iPhoto treats your phone the same way it treats any digital camera. After you import your photos, you're given the option of deleting them from your camera roll, and yes, you should delete them from your camera roll. If you want the photos back on your phone, you should sync them from iPhoto back to your phone. Deleting from your camera roll does not delete them from your computer. Keeping your camera roll empty speeds up iPhone backups.

  • No longer asks if I want to delete photos on camera. I cannot move photos to trash. how do I delete them?

no longer asks if I want to delete photos on camera. I cannot move photos to trash. how do I delete them?

it is rrecommended that you never have iPhoto delete your photos - import them and be sure they are safely in iPhoto and then after one (or more) backup cycles use the camera's format command to reformat the memorycard and delete the photos
As to the lack of being ask
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • HT204022 When a photo that is included in photo stream is deleted from cameraroll it should ask whether we want to delete it from photostream too, shouldn't it? How do I delete a bad photo from camera roll and photo stream? I have to delete it twice???

80% percent of photos we take are bad photos, we delete them later when reviewing them. Now the photos are in both camerroll and photostrean. When we delete them from the camera roll they do not get deleted from photo stream, when I delete them from photo stream they do not get deleted from camera roll.
I want to keep good photos only in both photo stream and camera roll. How do I do it? Delete them twice?? What a waste of time.
When a photo is deleted from camera roll it should ask whether we want to delete it from photo stream too. Otherwise photo stream is useless.I remove bad photos from camera roll but they all stay in the photo stream ...

    Hi JM,
Even 20 days later, the answer is the same.....you have to delete photos from them individually - they are kept in separate places, so you have to delete them from both if you don't want them. However, photostream will, eventually, "delete" the bad photos, since it only keeps up to 1000, and then starts overlaying the oldest ones....
    Sorry....

  • I still don't totally understand the difference on my iPhone between PhotoStream (with iCloud icon), Photos (the icon) and Albums and Camera Roll (under Photos icon) and and Camera Roll (under Camera icon).  I want to delete photos from my iPhone 4.

I  don’t  understand the difference on my iPhone between PhotoStream (with iCloud icon), Photos (the icon) and Albums and Camera Roll (under Photos icon) and and Camera Roll (under Camera icon).  They seem to be more or less the same thing, but deleting photos in one place does not delete them elsewhere.
When I tried to import from my camera to my iMac computer the computer would not recognized 900 of the 920 photos on the camera so I had to (successfully) use the Image Capture application to import them.
I want to delete photos from my iPhone 4 in order to free up storage (I only have 8GB.)  But in synching I do not want to delete any images from my iPhoto on my computer.
Is there a way that I can Delete All under Edit in either Photos or Camera on my iPhone and check about 20 ijmages to remain on the iPhone?  I could find no command to Select All and then uncheck the 20 photos I want to keep.
I have the 8GB iPhone and the iMac with OS 10.9.2 and iPhoto '09 Version 8.1.2.
    Help!

I have Version 6.1.3 because the clogged storage will not allow me to upload Version 7.1.  Catch 22.  This is basically a storage issue, I believe.  I cannot delete enough stuff on my iPhone to allow me to either back up or upload the new OS 7.  I am unwilling to pay for more storage in iCloud, so I want to delete stuff I don't need.  But I haven't yet figured out how to successfully do that.  I synch my phone and computer.  I want to delete mail on the Mail app and photos and still keep my photos on my computer on iPhoto, but not on my phone.  I seem unable to do that.  Any advice?

  • HT4236 I want to delete photos from my iPad but this help page does not help, when I click on devises a pop up for photos does not appear.

I want to delete photos from my iPad . But the help page does not help. When I click devices a photo pop up option does not appear

The instructions in HT4236 are as follows:
To delete synced photos and videos
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
    Click Apply.
No where does it say anything about a "photo pop up option". When you click on your device icon a panel with many tabs appears. One of these tabs is "Photos". You are supposed to click on the "Photos" tab.

You use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) for that job - or upgrade to a later iPhoto.

  • How can I delete photos and or albums from my iphone without having to delete them in all locations?  I have some pictures in an album that i want to remove them from but when I try it asks do I want to delete picture  from all loc

I have pictures in albums on my iphone.  I want to delete them from one album but when I try it asks to delete the picture from all locations.  I only want to delete it from 1 album.  Is this possible to do?

You can delete photos from individual albums but not from the camera roll.  If you try to delete a photo from camera roll it will be deleted from all other albums ("locations") that contain the photo.  This is because the actual photo is in the camera roll (the albums only contain links to the photo in camera roll, not the actual photo).

  • How do I stop iPhoto from automatically deleting photos from my camera after import?

I'm using iPhoto 11 version 9.2.3 and importing photos from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS35 via USB.
From what I can gather, iPhoto should prompt me after an import as to whether I want to delete the imported photos from the camera or not.
Instead, I get no option at all and iPhoto goes right ahead and deletes the imported photos. This is a problem as the camera is shared and used across a few Macs.
I can't find any options anywhere in iPhoto to prevent this behaviour. I've made sure that iPhoto is launched with the camera (I thought this might be the problem initially), but to no avail.
    Can anyone please help?

    Thanks Tom,
I fear that either I'm stupid or blind because I don't see that option in the Advanced pane either.  Here's what I have in Advanced:
    Enable this account
Include when automatically checking for new messages
Compact mailboxes automatically (this is greyed out)
Keep copies of messages for offline viewing (then a pull down menu):
All messages and their attachments (currently this is selected)
         All messages, but omit attachments
         Only messages that I've read
Don't keep copies of any messages
Check with your system administrator before changing any of the advanced options below:
         IMAP Path Prefix:
         Port:
         Authentication:
Use IDLE command if the server supports it (this is greyed out)
I see the option you're talking about on my older computer that's running Leopard, but not on the new one running Lion.
    Cheers,
    Bonnie

  • I want to delete photos from my folders that I already deleted from LR

I didn't realize I was not removing photos from disc.  Now I want to remove the unwanted files from my folders but I can't figure out a way to mass delete them.  Please help!

There is no way to mass delete the photos that have been removed from Lr.
Win Explorer / Mac Finder don't recognize what's been in Lr and been removed.
And once they're removed from Lr that's it. For Lr they're non-existent.
But you could re-import them folder by folder by doing <Synchronize folder>. Lr will display them under <Previous Import> in the Catalog panel (left side in Library Module). Highlight them all by doing Ctrl./Cmd. + "A", then right-click, select <delete> and then select <Delete from disk>.
Next time, when you don't want to delete images from disk right away, create a special folder (call it "candidates for deletion") and drag the images in there, That way the images remain in Lr and you can later on <delete from disk> from within Lr.

  • Want to select photos from digital camera to upload

    Hi,
I like keeping a number of pictures on my camera instead of erasing them everytime I transfer them on to my computer. As a result, it takes forever for iPhoto to go through the 700 pictures on my camera to pick up the 2 new ones that I want to put on the computer. (Selecting 'do not import duplicates' does not speed the process.) Is there a way I can do this more quickly? On other computers, you can just click on the camera icon and select the new photos, and upload those. Any tips or suggestions?
    Thanks!

iPhoto doesn't provide enough control of the import process to select individual photos. You can use another application called Image Capture that comes with MacOS X. Image capture will only capture to the hard drive so you'll have to separately import the photos into iPhoto and then delete them (if you want) because iPhoto will copy them into the library.
With your camera or memory card connected, open Image Capture. If iPhoto automatically starts and asks if you want to import, just ignore it. You can quit iPhoto for now or Hide it if you want. Bring Image Capture to the front. There should be a window with the name of your device (camera or memory reader) in the title bar.
The first popup menu is Download To: Note what it says or click it and choose Other... to download to another folder.
Click the "Download Some..." button and you'll see a preview window with thumbnails of what's on your camera/memory card. Select the ones you want. Then click Download. The selected photos will download to the hard drive.
Import the new photos into iPhoto either using iPhoto's Import menu command or drag and drop them from the Finder onto iPhoto's main window. After iPhoto imports them, you can delete the ones from the Finder.
BTW, you can set your Mac to automatically open Image Capture instead of iPhoto when you connect your Camera/memory card. This must be done in Image Capture's Preferences. Open Preferences and in the General tab select which application you want in the first popup menu.
Another way that's shorter if your camera mounts as a disk drive when you connect it is to find the photos you want directly from the camera's memory in the resulting Finder window and drag and drop directly into iPhoto's main window. After they import, eject your camera's disk icon before disconnecting it. You may need to switch the Finder view to column in order to see a thumbnail of each photo unless you know by the file names which ones you want.

  • I move iphoto albums to backup, now, how do I delete photos from iphoto on my hd?

It looks to me like once I move an album to my ext hd that the photos are not removed from my iphoto on my internal hd?  I want to free up space but only want to back up certain albums.

How are you moving them? Exporting does not remove material from iPhoto.
Why not have two Libraries, one on your internal drive, one on the external?
Here's one way to do what you want:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
