IPhoto doesn't find movies on new camera

Hi there,
have just bought a new camera (Canon Powershot SX20). iPhoto doesn't recognise that there are movies on it, so won't download them. Have tried image capture and same issue. No problem with image files though.
Camera takes HD movies so wondered if my slightly antiquated software doesn't know what these are.
My old camera used to show on the desktop so I could quite easily drag/drop files from the camera to a file on the computer. New camera doesn't show. Is there a way to change this?
Thanks for your help

Sorry, maybe didn't make myself clear. Its a stills camera which has the usual facility to do short movie clips (in HD). When I use my other camera iPhoto will just download the photos and movies from the camera in one go and will show photos and movie clips in the library.
Would like to be able to do the same with new camera.
However, I can't seem to get anything on the computer to recognise that there are movies on the camera. iMovie doesn't recognise that the camera is attached (presumably because its not a camcorder?). image capture will quite happily let me download the photos but also doesn't see the movies on the camera.
Other ideas? Just give up and buy a card reader?
BTW - very useful "feature" for it to not show on the desktop!!

  • Iphoto doesn't recognize my kodak V803 camera

I can upload pictures using the Kodak easyshare software but I want to use iphoto.
I went into Image capture and changed the preference to use iphoto when downloading but iphoto still doesn't see the camera ( my canon works fine)
I called Kodak tech support and they swear that the V803 should be recognized by iphoto.
I checked the list of compatible cameras in iphoto and the V803 isn't listed but it is a fairly new camera so the documentation may not have caught up yet.
    1. Does anybody know if the V803 is compatible with iphoto?
    2. what else can I try to have iphoto recognize the V803 to upload pictures?

Update: I've tried deleting my Iphoto plist but it still doesn't help - any other suggestions?

  • Imovie on iMac doesn't find movies on my iPad when trying to import. Moviues are in iPhoto, but not iMovies....

Hi. Just bought an imac, to centrally store all the pictures and particularly movies clogging up our 2 ipads.
connected the first ipad, and in imovies the movies appeared and were imported as expected. I then connected the second Ipad (a mini), and now imovies only recognises the photos on this one. The movies on the second ipad do appear in iphoto, and i suppose i could just store them all in there, but would prefer to keep all my movies in the obvious place, i.e. imovies!
Any thoughts or pointers on how to get this to work? thanks.

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • IPhoto does not play movies from digital camera

When transfering photos and movies to iPhoto, the movies are not playing in iPhoto.
    Error message:
THE MOVIE CAN'T BE OPEN. YOU MAY NEED TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE TO PLAY THIS KIND OF FILE
I am using iPhoto '09 v8.1.2 and QuickTime Player 10.0 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3
I deleted QuickTime 7 Pro after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
My digital camera is a Pentax Optio S6 that creates movies in the MPEG-4 format. The ending of the movie file after transfer to the Mac is .avi
What Codec do I need? Or should I reinstall QuickTime 7 Pro?

    Try install Perian

  • Iphoto doesn't find photos

i can't view my photos in iPhoto.
my storage says i have 60gb of photos but they don't show anywhere.
i have looked in finder/user/pictures/iphoto library (which is only 1.3gb in size) but no luck. i have 'shown package contents' which reveals only 3 pics in masters?!
the folders old masters, old previews and old thumbnails contain folders which appear to be labelled in year format from 1998 to 2015 (a few years missing) and each of these contain my 'event' titles however they don't lead to the actual file.
i have opened iPhoto with option/command and have tried each of the recovery options but with no luck.
can anyone help me find them?

You've been bitten by a bug in the upgrade process.  Report your problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html so they know others are having the same problem.  With more reporting it they may work on a fix.
It appears that your only recourse is to restore a backup copy of the library made just prior to this occurring.

  • Iphoto keeps on finding about 1500 new picture and wanting to import them.

Any ideas on how to stop this ? I have removed all photos onto external drive and delete all the backup folders. but these 1500 photos keep on coming back, very frustrating !!!! Grrrr any ideas?

Thanks for the responses, but never mind. I realized that I was actually importing them originally and then deleting them from iPhotos. I can do the same thing in Photos. No problem, then.

  • I have recently purchased a Panasonic TZ30 but I find that although still photos with upload into iphoto movies will not. I use imovie a great deal and find that I am not able to use the movies from my camera. Can anyone explain please ?

Can anyone esplain why I cannot upload movies from my Panasonic TZ30 camera? I able to upload stills and I was able to upload movies from my previous Panasonic TZ5. Since I use iMovie a gret deal it is very disappointing not to be able to use the videos from my new camera.

What format are you shooting? AVCHD? Not all versions of that are supported.
A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

  • Iphoto doesn't ask me if i would like to keep the photos i import on my camera or if i would like to delete them? how do i get it to ask? newest version of iphoto. iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

iphoto doesn't ask me if i would like to keep the photos i import on my camera or if i would like to delete them? how do i get it to ask? newest version of iphoto. iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • IPhoto doesn´t work after trying to load photos from iphone with newer version. Help!!!!!

First, I do not have a recent back-up of my iPhoto Library. (But, I learned my lesson for next time). When I tried to load photos from my super duper up to date software I-phone to my outdated iPhoto on the computer (only version 8.1.2), a message came that I cannot open your Mediateck with this version of iPhoto,. You have changed your mediathek with a newer version of iPhoto.
(in German, because I am writing from Germany "Sie konnen ihre aktuelle Mediathek nicht mit dieser Version von iPhoto öffnen. Sie haben Ihre Mediathek mit einer neueren version von iPhoto geändert").
How can I save all the baby pictures of my 3 kids??Help

    Did you update iPhoto?
    If not:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new iPhoto 08 library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How do I import an iPhoto Library  (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.

So what exactly did you copy over? If it's a 12 gig iPhoto Library then it sounds like the files are there. Perhaps the copy went wrong along the way.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)

  • Problems downloading photos from new camera into i photo macbook pro os  ver 10.6.8, new camera Olympus VR340, iphoto version 9.2.3 -- any thoughts?

Have a "vintage macbook pro running snow leopard os vers. 10.6.8.  Just bought a new camera -- Olympus VR 340.  Yesterday the photos downloaded into iphoto with no problerms.  Today they won't -- in fact -- iphoto just has the turning wheel and won't function (version 9.2.8).  Any thoughs about what the problem is and how to get it to work again? Never had problems with iphoto before -- with multiple cameras.
    thanks.

Quit iPhoto, then go to Users / your home folder / Library / Preferences.
In that folder you will find two files named com.apple.iPhoto.LSSharedFileList.plist and com.apple.iPhoto.plist
trash both files, then restart iPhoto.
Next go to iPhoto/Preferences and make sure you have selected Connecting Camera Opens: iPhoto

  • New camera for old iPhoto

We've been intending to buy a new camera for a bit, nothing fancy, just something a bit better than our now antique Canon (PowerShot A10) (yes, really!) and that can shoot some brief video. Just as I was about to buy, I wondered whether all the new cameras were in fact compatible with iPhoto 6. Of course, all of the links to the "compatible cameras" pages within the iPhoto6 help app are broken (indeed, why would Apple keep updating them at this point?).
Then I am just learning about RAW format, because of course with our ancient camera I have no idea what it is. I suppose we should choose a camera from this list to get full capabilities from it, which does rule out a number we had looked at.
I just discovered that they offer the new iPhoto as a standalone in the App store, and maybe it's worth the measly $15 for it.

Thanks -- as I looked into RAW, I realized it was far beyond our needs (and the cameras that do take RAW format pictures far beyond our price range).
So any camera, even a new model, would be fine, huh? I think I was fooled by googling up old web pages when this was not yet the case; and it doesn't help that the iPhoto 6 help app has a (non-working) link to a (no longer applicable) list of "compatible cameras."
    Thanks again.

  • IPhoto can't find my Nikon Coolpix S5 camera

iPhoto can't find my Nikon Coolpix S5 camera. It will not mount on my desktop. What do I do? I have used this camera for a few years and now it will not work any more. Is it the new OSX 10.5.3?
    Thank you.

    Ok
Does the same thing happen when connected to any of your three computers?
Is this being plugged into a usb hub or straight into the computer?
    could It be the cable?
You can buy an SD card reader that is usb for less than $10 at your local Fry's
if none of the above works.
If it connects and says the pics aren't the right format, plug your camera into a peecee
    and see if that works.
