Iphoto doesn't respond after 9.1.5 update

I have just returned from holiday and, on uploading new photos from a Panasonic Lumix, upgraded to 9.1.5. Since then I have been unable to run iPhoto. The problems seem to start with the photo import. Now iPhoto opens but then gives me the wheel spin and I have to force quite. I've removed 9.1.5. and reinstalled 9.1. I have also done a repair disc permissions but still have the same problem. Open to suggestions (running Snow Leopard).

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

My Iphoto doesn't work after installing lion.
it suggest that I have to instal iphoto again.
    where can I find this

If it suggests that you install iPhoto again, install iPhoto again. In your Macs Box that it came in there should be 2 Discs, one is an Applications CD (You need this one) And another is the Mac OS X.
Insert your Applications CD and hold C while the computer is starting up, then you will be walked through the installation of Applications.

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 doesn't respond after opening from the dock

i am running 10.6.7 on an imac purchased last fall. the iphoto has been a pain most of that time. it will open if i am importing photos from a digital camera (where inserting the memory card into the computer prompts iPhoto to open) but will never work when opened from the dock. the iphoto screen pops up and then I get the spinning wheel icon, and when I open the "force quit applications" utility, it tells me iPhoto is not responding and I have to force quit. are there any other answers out there besides "repair disk permissions"? that has not worked. thanks!

    Another test:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • IPhoto doesn't respond on startup

When I startup iPhoto, it opens up the rectangular window but is completely grey on the inside. I can't control it at all and am forced to Force Quit as it says it isn't responding. This happens even after the computer is restarted. About a week or two ago I did a lot of merging of events which I'm guessing is what caused the problems. As I was doing it iPhoto would often slow to a crawl but quiting the application often fixed it.
I haven't yet tried a Rebuild of the Library and I'm guessing that I should try that first, but I figured it didn't hurt to ask here first as I probably have 20-30k photos so I imagine a rebuild will take awhile. I also didn't know if the fact that it doesn't respond on startup was a clue to something else.
    Thanks for the help.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto and Itunes not responding after an Apple Software Update

    Hi
Afew days ago I did the Apple Software Update and since then I haven't been able to get onto my Itunes or Iphoto, both of which I use quite often. Itunes just doesn't load at all and Iphoto starts to open the page but then that multicoloured ball appears and it doesn't respond. I am just wondering why this is happening and whether it's happened to anyone else at all? Ideally I'd like to get rid of this new update but don't know how to go about it. I'm a bit of a computer dunce so if you could offer any solution in a straightforward way I would be so grateful. Thanks!

created a new user account and the same problem arose there as well.
Then you need to re-install iPhoto:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applcations Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’
This process will not affect your Library of photos. However: Always back up before an operation like this.

  • IPhoto doesn't respond - twirling rainbow circle!! Can anyone help me??

im running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1.
I try to open iPhoto and it just doesn't respond and i get the twirling rainbow circle.
I then have to force quit.
    Can anyone help me??

First try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library.  If you can't then try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If you can create and use a new library then the problem lies with your current library.  In that case  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.

  • Downloading new photos - iPhoto doesn't work after upgrading to Yosemite

    Hello,
Since I upgraded to Yosemite, iPhoto has stooped working after downloading photos from my Sd card.
Some picutres downloaded are black while some others are ok, but in any case I have to restart my iMac because every apps running can't be used anymore.
That happens only with iPhoto, after downloading, instead normally it works.
Now I use Aperture and everything is fine but I'd like to figure out why iPhoto acts like that.
Do I have to trash it?
    Thank you.
    Fabrizio

There have been a number of reports on here from folks with Raw issues after updating.
    This thread:
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)
explains how to delete and reinstall Raw support. It has worked for others.

  • Iphoto doesn't open after update MAC OSX 10.6.8, error message says: library not loaded

iphoto does not open after software update.
    i am using MAC OS X 10.6.8
it says: library not loaded,...reason image not found
    EXC BReakpoint (sigtrap)

    It's missing background frameworks:
    Library not loaded:/library/frameworks/ilifepagelayout.framework/versions/a/ilifePageLayout
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • IPhoto doesn't start after update

I did some updates including for iPhoto this morning.
After that my iPhoto stopped working!
    My mac is OSX 10.6.8
    Can anybody help me???

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

  • Mail doesn't launch after 10.5.7 update

    Hello,
After updating to 10.5.7 everything works fine - except Mail. The dock icon bounces one or two times and then stops. There is no error message, no beach ball and the blue dot below the icon doesn't appear either. Before the update Mail worked perfectly fine. No plug-ins were installed.
I already tried using the combo update, repair permissions and remove caches. Any other ideas?

I can't provide any help unfortunately. But I can chime in that my Mail starts to download mail, then stops after a couple of emails, spinning beachball, then quits unexpectedly. This is after the 10.5.7 update and repairing disk permissions. I also tried taking all accounts offline (so it wouldn't just crash immediately) and then doing a rebuild. The existing emails disappear and nothing seems to happen. Those emails reappear after quitting Mail and opening it again thankfully, but it makes no difference with the downloading emails crashing. I can also confirm that it isn't just a corrupt email since I've gone to webmail and deleted all new emails only to have it happen again when using Mail downloading brand new emails. I have a very simple email set up with one cable broadband email account and a few simple anti-spam rules. Worked perfectly prior to 10.5.7.

  • Mail doesn't start after 10.8.2 update

After update to 10.8.2 and not seeing any more updates left to install... rebooted a couple of times but I still see this problem. If anyone knows a fix... some info would be appreciated thx.
After the latest 10.8.2 the mail app won't start. Mail.app is in the applications folder. This is the error message that is displayed.
"You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X. You have Mail version 6.1 (1498/1499). It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.8.2 (Build 12C60). For more information click the Help Button."
If I have the Console app open when I try to start mail I see the following:
2012-10-07 7:45:46.733 PM Mail[419]: ---[ You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X ]---
Mac OS X version: Version 10.8.2 (Build 12C60)

My apologies. After re-installing the update.... Mail was upgraded to version 6.2 and it started up!
    Thanks so much!

  • IPhoto doesn't open after migration/upgrade

I see several discussions similar to mine, but not exactly.
    I just migrated from a MacBookPro 10.6.8 to a Pro 10.8.2.
My iPhoto was iPhoto 8, vers 7.1.5.
After migration and upgrade my iPhoto is vers 9.4.1.
When I try to open iPhoto I get the message that the library files must be upgraded.
I downloaded and installed iPhotoLibraryUpgrade. When I try to run the program, it says:
You library can open with the current version of iPhoto and does not need to be prepared with this tool.
I have tried opening iphoto with the cmd-opt key, but nothing here will run.
Get the same message: the files must be upgraded.
I downloaded the libraryManager and tried to open the library "package" but an unable to.
    It's "untouchable".
Please, any suggestions would be great as I sit here with no access to my iPhotos.

With iPhoto Library Manager you need to run the Rebuild command not open the package.

  • Iphoto doesn't work after Yosemite update.

Here is a screenshot of the problem. You can't see the pointer from the picture but it is actually stacked on the loading part. I tried to close Iphoto several times because it was not responding (Force quit), but it was unsuccessful, every time I open the application is still like this. Any suggestion?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
add your screenshot via the Camera icon in the toolbar?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
