    What version of iPhoto?
If it's 09 or later try
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto cannot open with Yosemite

    Hi guys!
I have updated my MacBook Pro on Yosemite and iPhoto cannot open. It asked for an update from Apple store, which I did. Now there are 2 icon apps of iPhoto, and none opens. I moved to trash the old one, but still the new did not respond at all.
    Any advice?

I had problems with iPhoto but after cleaning out my mac with 'Clean my Mac'
I'm not surprised.  As Larry has already pointed CYM and others like it do more damage than good and are considered malware around here.  Uninstall CYM according to the developer's directions:  How to Uninstall CleanMyMac Classic ... - MacPaw.
To verify that you've removed all of the files download and run Find Any File to search for any files with "the application's' name"  and the "developer's name" in the file name.  For example for CleanMyMac you'd do two searches:
    1 - Name contains "cleanmymac"
    2 - Name contains "macpaw"
Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.
When you're done run  Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and try iPhoto again.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from opening with an iPhone?

I tried to do this on Yosemite but these steps don't work. Is this a bug?
    Step 1: Open iPhoto.
Step 2: In the Menu bar, go to iPhoto > Preferences…
Step 3: For the “Connecting camera opens” option, make sure to select “No application.”
Step 4: Close the Preferences window.
I want to have iPhoto not open every time I plug in my iPhone 6.

Image capture is a different application for "capturing images" - it is located in your applications folder - connect your phone and launh it and make this change while the phone is connected

  • Need help my iphoto keeps opening with a white screen

do not know what to do and would not like to lose all my photos i just add to iphoto

Then restore the backup - that is why it is the first step
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library  - start with the first option and try each one until you resolve the issue

Its kind of upsetting because i have to downgrade it to iLife '09 to use it... anyone?

    You need to re-install:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Iphoto not opening with pictures

When I open iphoto there my pictures are not coming up and I cannot import new ones as I usually can. I called tech support and the person on the phone seemed to think that my photos were probably in a different library but without paying she could not tell me how to access the other libraries. I looked online and did what it said to open other libraries and from what I can tell this is not the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? How can I access my photos? I can still open iphoto and I can find the picture files on my computer but can only open them with the previewer. Help!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Unless the photos are within a subfolder of the iPhoto Library or Pictures folder, iPhoto will not load them. While it is possible to make a remote link to another drive for the photo library that does add complications. If the photos are within the Pictures folder, chances are you can rebuild your iPhoto library from that folder. To rebuild the library, quit iPhoto, and relaunch iPhoto holding the command and option keys simultaneously. It will ask you if you want to map to another library. Say yes. Then navigate to the Pictures folder where the iPhoto Library document resides. Select that document. In some versions of iPhoto the Pictures folder is a "package" folder, which has to be control mouse clicked to open the package.

  • Iphoto 11 compatability with gmail. Server not recognising user or password when I attempt to share photo,s

When attempting to  email photo,s  using iphoto this message appears; server not recognising user or password. i have checked preferences and may gmail a/c is listed as default sender. Any help out there for me? PS It was fully functional before I installed Home and office for mac.

    Upgrade to v9.4.1 or
Trash the HP Plug in from /Library/Application Support/iPhoto
There are two libraries where this plugin might be
    HD/ Library
    and
    HD/Users/Your Name / Library
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)

  • Some .avi files dont open with QuickTime or MPlayer. Please help!

Hi! I have few .avi files which are not played by QuickTime and when I open them with MPlayer OS X 2, the sound is on but the video doesnt come up. Please help!

Hi Niel, Installed both.  Both play the sound but NO video.. When opened in MPEG Streamclip no messages appeared so, there was nothing to accept.  Appreciate your reply but if you know any other way of working this out please help.  Many thanks Niel!

  • My iPhoto would open with stating the files were damaged. I created a new library, thinking I could just retrieve the old one through the Pictures folder. Now I cannot find the old library.

I fear I may have deleted ALL my photos!!! When opening iPhoto it stated that the photos were damaged. By creating a new photo library, I now cannot find the old photos in the Pictures file. I think I really screwed up!!!

Download and run Find Any File to search for "Library6.iPhoto" on your hard drive. That's a file that is in every iPhoto library. And  Find Any File can search inside packages as areas that Spotlight can not.
See if you find more than one of those files.  If you do then you can find out where that other library is. If there's only one found click on the Desktop to get to the Finder and use the Go ➙ Go to folder... menu option. Enter in the window /Volumes.
When you created the new library did you get this window where you were to either accept the default name that iPhoto presented or rename the new library?

  • None of my video's in iPhoto will play with Quicktime Pro

Good evening everyone, I installed Snow Leopard today, and I had Quicktime Pro, after the install it was in my Applications, Utilities folders, and I can open it, and my registration key for pro is there, but when I click on a video in iPhoto it opens with Quicktime X. How do I open them with Pro? Thanks so much!

I found the solution in case anyone is having the same problem. If you open Quicktime Pro in Snow Leopard, choose file, then open file, and then you can open any video with the pro features that way. Hope this helps some one!

  • I just upgraded to os 10.9.5. When I try to open iPhoto, I am told that the version I have(9.3), is not compatible with the os. But it came with it when I upgraded. What do I have to do to get an iPhoto that works with 10.9.5? TIA

I just upgraded to os 10.9.5 on my 15 " macbook pro from os 10.7.5. When I try to open iPhoto, I get the message that it is not compatible with the os. How can that be??? It came with the upgrade. It says the version of iPhoto is 9.3. How do I get an iPhoto that works with os 10.9.5? TIA

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgradeto iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1

  • Open With iPhoto

Sometimes iPhoto is a simple to use program that does all I need --- but it can't organize like Bridge can, so I would like to use Bridge and then an "Open With iPhoto" command. I can add iPhoto to the applications in Preferences|File Type Associations, and Bridge then starts the iPhoto app after I double click an image -- but then I receive a message that "the file cannot be imported. It is in the iPhoto library." (Of course it is.)
Now, before ranting that this forum is for professionals and it's an Apple problem -- let me suggest that Apple made sure iPhoto had the ability to open an image for editing in Photoshop.
So, can somebody help me figure out how to make these two very good programs work together?

I should mention, you can right click on an image through finder, select 'Get info' scroll down till you see 'Open With:' here you can default iPhoto, then click 'change all' and continue... you can also just use iPhoto in select images by not clicking on 'Change all', the change will only apply to that image
This way you get iPhoto on the list as 'defualt' but still have all the others available as before...
