IPhoto/email changing photo file format?

I use an HP digital camera exclusively. All my photos in iPhoto state that they are in .jpeg format. Occasionally photos sent via email to my daughter-in-law arrive in a .mime format which she cannot open on her Windows unit. Does anyone know if the error is created on my end by either iPhoto or email, or is it happening on her end. Quite frustrating to her. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The error is caused by her ISP (or email software).
I'll bet she still uses AOL.
Try "zipping" the file first:
Drag the image from iPhoto Library to your Desktop.
Using the Finder (under the File menu) choose to
"Make Archive of..." to change the file from blah.jpg
to blah.jpg.zip and send it as a test.
Worked like a charm! You were right on both counts with AOL being in use. Thanks for your help.

  • Changing photo file formats-Making JPG lower case

I am new to the Mac OS and I run OS X 10.5.1 . I am having trouble uploading pics to myspace that have been transfered from my Canon PowerShot A420 camera. When the pics are taken they are saved in jpg. format but the jpg. is actually all caps (JPG). Myspace is saying the file is not recognized. I have also taken pics with Photo Booth and those are also saved in jpg. format and the jpg. is all lower case (jpg.) and those are easily uploaded to myspace. How can I change the JPG to become lower case.

All you have to do is change the filename. You can right click on the file and choose Get Info and change it in there, or you can simply click on the name once and then again to see it highlighted, at which point you can just change the .JPG to .jpg. That is, if you're showing extensions. If not, go to Finder>Preferences, click on Advanced, and check the box to show extensions.

  • Rebuilding iPhoto library changes .mov files to raw

I rebuilt my iPhoto library and since then any .mov files (specifically MJPEG) were changed to RAW in the info panel. The files haven't been changed, but if you try to view them, they small thumbnails are intact, but expanded are a triangular icon with an exclamation point. If I locate the original file and reimport it, it fixes the problem for that individual problem, but this is a tedious solution. MP4 files and H264 files were not affected. I have not been able to locate any information for a solution. Is there a way to force iphoto to change the file format so that it properly recognize that it is a video file, not an image file?
    Snow Leopard, iPhoto 9.1.5

Why do you think they've become Raw?
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Problems emailing any other file format other than a .jpg

I am having problems emailing any other file format other than a .jpg in mac Mail in Leopard. Is anyone else having this problem?
I have tried PDF, .tif and .doc documents, and they are small files, less than 150 kb. I have checked to ownership on the images and it says that I can read and write to them. I have also checked with my ISP and my mailbox capacity is 10 MB and was recently emptied. I am able to log into my ISP's webmail portal and send these types of attachments through there successfully, which has made me convinced that it has to do with Leopard or Mac Mail because I did not have these problems in Tiger.
When I send a message like this, Mail says, "Sending" for a while, and then says "Cannot send message using server:(Name of my server) Sending the message content to the server failed. Select a different outgoing mail server."

I've been sending .doc files with/without also .jpg as attachments without problems so it is possibly not a Leopard problem. I know this doesn't solve your problem though. Someone else may be able to solve the problem.

  • How can one send email-sized photo files as attachments in Mail, without the photos appearing within the email?s

How can one send email-sized photo files as attachments in Apple Mail, without the photos appearing in the body of the email?  If it can be done, it's not at all obvious, at least not to me.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

The "View as icon" option shrinks the photo to an icon in the sender's Apple Mail, but how it appears to the recipient varies dependingy on what e-mail client he/she uses.
Using Apple Mail 5.0 (the Lion version) at both ends, the sender can use the "View as icon" option to shrink his view of the photo to an icon, but the recipient also using Apple Mail 5.0 still sees the full photo in line with the message text. The recipient can then use the "View as icon" option to shrink it to an icon, but I don't think that's not what jackofarabia is looking for.
As far as I know there is no way in the current Apple Mail to do what jackofarabia wants. There should be, but there isn't.

  • Emailing the photo files as an attachment, not the opened photo

When I export a photo to email I will get the actual photo in opened format in the text part of the email, and not a file name attached to the email.
    I use a iMac OS X version 10.6.7.
How can I change to attaching the photo files?
    Thanks for your help!
    Harry

OS X can natively archive/unarchive zip files, so no need for another unarchiver unless you want control and or use other compression formats!
As for Apple Mail, all image formats are placed inline, there is no option to just attach the file. There are options to put the attachments at the end of the message and to make them windows friendly (from the view menu -> attachments) or to show it as an icon, but that only applies to how you see the mail not the recipient.
The only other option would be to use a different mail client such as Thunderbird, as far as I can see.

  • Iphoto emailing of photos not functioning. Recieve notice that my server is down...which is not the case

My iphoto email service will not complete the sending of photos attached to an email.  I get a notice to the effect that action was not completed because
either I'm not connected to the internet or my server is "down."  Niether is the case.  I have tried to send to myself at both my gmail address (mailing from
the gmail address) and to my other email account, as well as to others at different accounts.  Is there any way to restore this function?  Thank you.

Books do not use Mail in any way - they created a order file and send it to the Apple servers directly - not using email
    and for the book
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
as to theiPhoto mail issue - there was a recent post about Cloud mail changing servers and iPHoto not being able to follow the change so either finding the correct mail server from time to time and entering it or using Mail which does not seem to have that problem is necessary - I use mail so have no recent experience with the iPhoto email client

  • IPhoto has changed image import format

    Hi everyone,
iPhoto used to import all my photos from my iPhone as .jpeg files. For some unknown reason it now imports them as .png files. How do I change it so they import as .jpeg files? I've looked through all the setting with no success.
I understand .png files may be of higher quality but the convenience of jpeg far outweighs any image quality loss.
    Thanks for your help
    Regards
    Mick

Hi guys, thanks for your answers, but a brief reply to hopefully get some further assistance:
when I view the photos that are on my iPhone via iPhoto they are .jpeg files. I have had a look at photos I have imported last month with iPhoto and and they are saved as .jpeg on my computer. However, for some reason now, when I import them, they are saved as .png files.
Keith, I don't think it is an iPhone setting as they are stored on my phone as .jpeg files, is there a setting somewhere on the phone that allows you to change what format files are downloaded as?
    Thanks for your help

  • Changing photo file size

I am wondering how I change the file size of some photos that I need to send. I need the photos to be 40k and a maximum resolution of 400x400. I don't know how to resize them. I am sorry I can be a little slow when it comes to technology.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Select the file in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The resulting dialogue will give you the option to resize the pic, then click export and choose a location where you want the smaller file to be placed.

  • Changing the file format of spool output when scheduling a background job.

    Hello Experts,
I have an issue. It is related to Spool output format. I created a job for one report program for which the output is a list output. I have added one recipient in the 'Spool list recipient' while creating the job SM36. After the job is finished the spool output is sent to the recipient mail id as .htm format as an attachment. But the attachment should be excel sheet or text file. No coding in the program should be used to convert the file format. Only settings in the spool while creating job should be manipulated. Please help me in solving this issue.
    Regards.

    Hi Sunil,
You can use the logic for converting spool to PDF using program : RSTXPDFT4 . Alternatively you can use FM: CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF . In this FM you need to pass the Spool id .
u can make use of these FM's SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1
    SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1

  • Changing the file format

    hi guys,
i hv a requirnment in which i need to read a file which is in .CGL format on a shared network path or application server which is nt possible to read directly so i need to first change the format of the file to .CSV and then read it using the FM KCD_CSV_FILE_TO_INTERN_CONVERT .
so plz  tel me how to change the file extension
    thanks
    shivraj

Not quite sure how you arrived at conclusion that CGL must be converted to CSV... CGL might turn out to be just a plain text file (e.g. many log files have .LOG extension but are just plain texts), in which case you can simply read it directly. Whether you'll be able to make sense of the file data - is another question and it depends on what is in that CGL file. Again, conversion to CSV might not even help.
If CGL file is a proprietary format, you might not be able to read it in SAP at all without using some third-party tool.

  • How to change screenshot file format?

With Grab, the default file format for a screenshot is .tiff and with command-shift-4 the default file format is .png. Is there a way to change these default file formats through systems preferences or otherwise?
I just discovered you can take screen shots with Preview (even if there's no file open in Preview) and "save as" in a number of file formats. Woo-hoo!
I'm still curious about options for Grab and command-shift-4, though. Any thoughts?

If you open the Help info for Grab (and select "Converting Grab screen shots to other formats") you will see it says that Grab only saves files in TIFF format and that if you want to convert the format to something else it recommends using Preview or any other appropriate converter.
FWIW, there's plenty of other screen capture programs to choose from.  Just put "screen capture" into a macupdate.com search to see the various "flavors".

  • Photoshop Elements 8-Change of file format when saving deletes filename

I have been using Photoshop Elements 8 since last May and have always been irritated that when I add text to a photo it always defaults to PSD format for saving.  I have gone to the preference options to see if I can set jpg as the default and it does not offer that option.  This means that every time I save after adding text I have to manually select jpg to get the format to change.
Although this has been a pain, I have done it thousands of times as I have edited photos.
My problem is that suddenly from one day to the next when I change from PSD option to jpg the filename disappears and I have to go back and manually type in the whole filename.  The only changes to my computer settings that I can think of that might have affected this is that Microsoft Updates had 2 updates.  First was Definition for Windows Defender-KB915597 and the other was Unpdate for Windows 7 for x64 based systems-KB97690.
I saw a similar problem posted by sandwitch2 on Feb. 13th about PSE6.  99jon suggested the change to permissions of adding "everyone".  I tried this and it did not correct the problem.
    Any other suggestions are welcome.
I have found Adobe's insistance on saving as PSD irritating to say the least in the past.  The inability to change this in preferences has made me very unhappy, but the quality of their product has outweighed the hoops they make me jump through until this.  Their search feature in support is pretty much worthless.  It either brings up nothing if you keyword is to limiting or brings up 200 responses if it if too broad.
I have been a user of Photoshop Elements for over 6 years updating as new editions have come out. I am to the point that if I can't get this current problem fixed I am uninstalling Elements 8 and going to another software.  Adobe's proprietary requirements and poor support page are just too much of a pain to deal with.

I was told that if I save in PSD if I send the photos to share with others only those with Photoshop Elements can open the files.  That is why I try to use jpg.  Is that true?
Thanks for all the help from both of you,
    Bettye

  • Changed Photo file names won't update

Hi, I am having a problem that I need help with. In my iWeb photo gallery page I have some photos that had filenames that were too long (for my server) and I had to change. I shortened them in iPhoto and replaced them in the iWeb gallery page. (I quit and restatrted programs appropriately). Still when I republish the page, the OLD photo filenales are showing in the photo gallery folder!! I have redone this proceedure 4 times now and am at wits end!!

WOW! What a pain! I changed all the file names in the iPhoto Library and it still did not work. So I opened each of the photos using JVeiw and saved them to the Desktop. The replaced the filed in iPhoto with the new ones. Then replaced the files in iWeb. finally, it worked. I was able to publish to folder. Now when I upload to my server, I get the message about other file names being too long. The files are in the 'comments' folder of the published folder. Mine are B80F49F8-5F59-4C79-B827-1DC21D1729BE_files.
I can not upload these to my old Appleshare IP 9.2 server.
