IPhoto events appear empty but only when I click on them...

After reaching 56,000 photos in my iphoto library, I decided to upgrade to Aperture 3.3
I have tried sharing the iphoto library between both programs but in iPhoto there is a strange problem...
If I click on "Photos" all my photos are there.
If I click on "Events" all the Events appear with the Key Photo uppermost and the number of photos in each even stated...
BUT if I click on any individual event, it says "No photos" and nothing comes up.
I have rebuild the thumbnails and now the entire database but with no luck
Any suggestions warmly received

anything here that helps?

I imported photos from an old iPhoto (2001) to photo library and can now see them only as thumbnails but not when I click on them. The screen is black cannot see or print either. Is there any way to salvage those old photos? I now use iLife09. OS 10.6

Did you import the old iPhoto library into the new one? That's not what you want to do because you will import all of the original, modified and thumbnail files as if they were original files. Lots of duplicates and useless small photos.
Do you have a backup copy of the library that you imported into to?  If you do then bring it in and then use  iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new, 3rd library.
If you don't then you'll have to try to fix the current one and then cull out the duplicates and small useless photos as follows:  make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If this doesn't fix the problem you'll have to start over from scratch and create a new library from the files inside the Originals folder of your current library.  But first you should cull out the small photos that would be the thumbnails from the 2001 library.
Move the Originals folder to the Desktop, open and do a search for Kind=photo, File size is less than 10 KB.  That should find all of the thumbnail files which you can then drag to the Trash.  You might have to make that less than 50 KB. Then Import the remaining photos into a new iPhoto library.

  • All iPhoto events appear empty in "Event" view

When I view my iPhoto 11 library by "Events", I get the usual listing of all my events, and I am able to scroll through the preview pictures at this level within the individual small Event icon. The key photo shows as normal.  However, if I double click on an event, the event comes up but without any photos showing, not even an empty grey window frame for each photo.  The name of the event shows correctly but on the top right corner it simply says NO PHOTOS.
Now the strange thing is that if I view the library by "Photos" or "Faces" or via Albums etc, I see all my photos and they all appear to be in their corresponding events as normal.  I can even right click on one of my photos and click "Show Event" and then the correct event comes up with all the photos showing.  But if I then go back to "All Events", I will see all the events but if I select one (even one I have just viewed), it will then say NO PHOTOS.
I have deleted the plist files (included the "locked" ones) from both iPhoto and Aperture but this doesn't resolve the problem.  I've also done a "Repair Permissions", "Rebuild Thumbnails" and "Rebuild Database" from the iPhoto First Aid menu (Opt-Cmd Click when opening iPhoto) and none of these have fixed the problem!
I just recently started using Aperture to view the same Library and I have no problem viewing the "Projects" (which is the same as Events in iPhoto) in the normal way.  I have a feeling that this problem started only when I first opened the iPhoto library in Aperture.
    Any ideas?

You don't need to purchase iPLM to use it to rebuild the library.  But try this first:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto beachballs on start, but only when airport is on.

iPhoto opens quickly enough but as soon as I go to use it I get the beachball. Unless I turn airport off. Its almost like iPhoto is trying to connect to the internet and wont respond until it makes a connection.
It also happens on my other macbook.
I'm running a macbook with 2gb ram and have 80gig free on my 160gb HD.
    Thanks for your help.
    Gianni

    Gianni,
I think this might be related to photo sharing.
I had this very same problem with iPhoto '06 on my desktop (PowerMac Dual G5). I only noticed the problem after upgrading to Leopard, so I wonder if that is related. I tried Devlin's suggestion of disabling automatic update checking within iPhoto, but that did not solve the problem.
So I dug around in the Preferences some more and disabled the "Look for shared photos" option on the "Sharing" preferences page. After disabling that option, my iPhoto became responsive immediately after startup, as it used to.
I also tried disabling the "Share my photos" option, with similar results. If I had both sharing options ENABLED, iPhoto would get stuck with the beachball for several minutes after startup. On the other hand, if I disabled EITHER of the sharing options, it would not.
Beyond that, I am not sure what the problem is, because I do not see this issue on my laptop (iBook G4). I do see a brief (less than 30 seconds) delay, with beachball on the laptop, but nothing like on the desktop.
I suppose it could be something strange in my network configuration which only manifests itself on the desktop machine. But that seems weird to me. If anything, I would expect the problem on the (wireless) laptop, rather than the (wired) desktop.
Unfortunately, I do not have any way to further investigate the problem myself. So for now I will live with not sharing my photos.
Does anyone else have any tips for solving this issue? Or perhaps identifying the root cause?

  • I have iPhoto 08 and have been happy with it. Don't want to upgrade. But suddenly, when I click on an event, instead of all the photos, I just get one- enlarged- and cannot move to the next one. The photo just jumps up or down.  How to solve?

I have posted "submit" twice and keep getting requests to submit again.  Now being asked to write a summary! Here we go.  I have iPhoto 08 and am happy with it.  Don't want to upgrade. But suddenly when I click on an event, instead of getting all the photos, I just get a large version of one photo and cannot move on to the others.  The right arrow will not move it and the photo just jumps around.

Note the slider bottom right of the iPhoto Window. Drag it left.

Try resetting your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up. Then if still doing, restore your phone in itunes from your backup.

  • After updating to IOS 6.0.1 I cannot copy photos from the iPhoto library to the iPhone. The events appear correctly but the photo count in all the Events is 0

Same problem here, and it's not isolated.

I believe you will find you can again sync Photos if you delete the "iPod Photo Cache", but predict that any subsequent attempt will fail.  In my case, the enxt sync removes all the photos again - I've seen other reports of error messages upon sync.  Mine just fails silently. :-)

  • I duplicated a picture and now iPhoto (11) is cloning that picture replacing all the other photos and only when I click directly on them I can see the real picture! How can I solve the problem without losing any saved picture? Shall I re-install? Thanx

I duplicated a picture selecting CMD and D but, suddenly, iPhoto (latest version '11) started cloning that picture and replacing all the other photos with it.
Only when I click directly on one photo I can open it and see the real picture it is.
But the preview is always the duplicated one...
I tryed to duplicate another picture just to see if it turned out ok but the only changement was the duplicated picture!
I started repeating the second duplicated one instead of the previous one but my issue remained the same.
So, how can you help me to solve this problem without losing any saved picture?
    Shall I re-install iPhoto completely?
Thank you very very much in advance!!

As Larry says, restoring the back up is the fastest and best solution. Otherwise:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How to fix Adobe App Manager error code -60 Download appears corrupt but only for Photoshop CS6 app

How to fix Adobe App Manager error code -60 Download appears corrupt but only for Photoshop CS6 Creative Suite Cloud App. Many attempts were made to install Photoshop CS6 with Adobe Application Manager without success. Every other Creative Suite Application was successfully downloaded. I keep getting Installation Failed when attempting the Photoshop install. How does one correct this?

Thanks Jeff! So, it totally appears as if it was a network issue. The corporate network where I work is quite likely the culprit. Where I was thrown off is that since I have admin rights on my computer, I can install software. But using Adobe Application Manager to install Adobe software wasn't working. And to make matters worse, there didn't appear to be any way to install Acrobat Pro for Mac without using AAM. The workaround that I used previously was to install the trial versions of Adobe software, and then just register them using my username and password. But the workaround for being able to install everything using AAM was to bring my computer home and download from my home network.

  • New PC, reinstalled CS4, photos appear blurry, but only inside of Photoshop???

I recently upgraded to a new PC, on Windows 7.  I've finally finished reinstalling everything and getting things back to "working order".  But I'm noticing something very troubling.  When I open previously edited photos in Photoshop, photos that I considered "final" (meaning they were print-ready), suddenly appear blurry.  The same photos viewed on my website are crisp and look as I remember them looking...so it's not the monitor.  Which leads me to believe that Photoshop is doing something odd to these pix.
Anybody have any ideas as to why the photos would appear blurry, but only in Photoshop?

OpenGL operation uses a smoother resampling, but if you're seeing it as "blurry" it could be that there are features configured on the GPU that suit gaming or something that are causing excessive blurring.  Normally the differences between OpenGL-based display operations and non-OpenGL are almost unnoticeable.
Any way you could capture your screen with/without OpenGL and show what you're seeing here?
Here's the same image screen grabbed at 71% magnification showing the OpenGL / non-OpenGL difference in display on a properly working system.
If you're seeing more blurry images than the one on the left, then you have a specific problem you should work to get to the bottom of.

  • I have thumbnails in my iPhoto library but when I click on them the screen is black

I have thumbnails on my iPhoto library but when I click on them the screen is black.  I have had my computer in 2-3 times for this issue and the library is corrupt, or so I was told.  This doesn't make sense since the photos are obviously in my library some where.  Any thoughts what is going on?

Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • IPhoto is frozen only when I click on "print?"

Please forgive me, I am really not great at this.
But I printed a picture earlier via iPhoto, and everything was fine. Later on, I went back to iPhoto because I uninstalled my printer as I have a new one coming tomorrow. Only when I click on print, my iPhoto freezes. I have uninstalled iPhoto and re-downloaded it twice, did the command and option thing, and still absolutely nothing. It just freezes when I click on the print section/bar. I am so frustrated. Any help?
Edit: And boom. As soon as I posted this, it started working. AHHH.

What happens when you try? And do you mean "uploading" (per your title) or "loading" (per your query)
    What version of iPhoto?

  • Burned Image on screen, but only when using Safari

I have a burned image on my IPhone's screen, but only when I use Safari. Additionally, when I open Safari's multiple window viewer feature, the image is there as well. The home screen and every other app is unaffected. Turning off and on the phone does nothing to fix the problem.
I know removing the casing and battery is an adventure, so I am trying to avoid it if I can.
Can anyone think of a way to fix this problem?
    Thanks for the help.

    Troubleshoot Safari extensions ..
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
