IPhoto events upload problem

Hi. iPhoto on my Macbook Air is no longer splitting into separate events when I upload photos. It's really annoying! Can anyone help me resolve this please?
Thank you.
Ruth

Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
Click to view image full size
Then try again.

  • Iphoto book upload problem

When purchasing a Book, iTunes assembles the book then goes to submit but stalls. Tried 3 times with no success
    Solutions anyone?

I was experiencing this same problem:
    1. Upload goes very quickly (a few seconds whether 10 Mb or 33 Mb).
    2. Then I'd get an error message indicating "An error occurred while uploading one of your files. Please check your network connection and click Retry to resend your file"
    3. I'd click the Retry button and it would indicate a successful transfer.
    4. Shortly thereafter, I'd receive the cancelled order e-mail from Apple.
    I am using iPhoto 5.0.4.
After a lot of scouring of the Apple KnowledgeBase and mostly of this forum, I tried many things, none to any avail.
I suspected finally that there may be some kind of network interference or interrution, so first I quit all apps that might access the Internet (e.g., Mail, Safari, iChat). Still no success.
Then I realized I had Earthlink TotalAccess and WeatherBug running in my menu bar. I quit both of these "mini" apps and voila! My upload of my 33 Mb book was successful (it took about ten odd minutes with a DSL connection over old clunky phone lines).
My suspicion is that it was Earthlink TotalAccess which is constantly sending out and receiving a lot of Network info. It's a very old app and not very "Mac-ish" anyway.
It may be that any high data transfers (i.e., photos) can be sensitive to this kind of frequent network traffic. Some have blamed Apple, but now that I think of it, I have had similar problems uploading large quantities of photos to the major services (KodakGallery, Shutterfly, and Snapfish). I even was trying sharedink.com as an alternative and had the same problem with a failed upload of my iPhoto book pdf file.
    Hope this helps!

How do I get MacPro iPhoto events downloaded to my iPad mini? iCloud is set up. Uploading photo streams from mini to Mac works fine.

Set up the events as albums on your Mac Pro in iPhoto. Then use iTunes to sync your iPad.
Start iTunes on your Mac Pro. Connect your iPad and select it in the left sidebar. If you do not see a left sidebar use the View menu to View Sidebar.
Once you select your iPad look in the right window and find the Photos tab. Select the album or albums you want copied from iPhoto on your Mac Pro to your iPad. Then click on Apply.

  • Itunes with iphoto event problem

Hi. i really need help here. I have the same problem with my ipad & iphone so it's either a problem with itunes or iphoto. everything looks great in iphoto but when i open itunes and go to the photo tab it all looks mad. My events have been duplicated several times !! eg.. i've got a wedding event with 200 pic in. Now it looks like wedding  ( 2 pics )    school    wedding (5)   wedding (2) etc etc.. I've tried to delete the cache but it still looks like this.. How do i delete the events in itunes and start again ? is this a bug?  Darren

Looks like I am not alone.
I thought I had it fixed for a moment, I trashed the com.apple.iPod.plist & tried other advice I have found here but after a sync to an iPod the problem came back.  Sync'ing an iPad was fair but two iPhones (3GS & 4) saw the same problem arise so I tried the iPad again and the problem haunted me yet again.
I noticed this happen since the last iTunes update 10.2.2.
Somewhere here I noticed if you re-sort your iPhoto events it helps only once, any further sync'ing has no effect - the problem persists.  The issue seems to worsen, events cannot be selected under the Photos tab in iTunes for any device.   When I managed to get the Pad to sync a few events I noticed the sort order was completely random, I should have left well enough alone (at least they were showing) but try as I did to get a sensible order failed completely when I sync'd the pad a second time.
Temporarily I have created Albums in iPhoto to maintain some images on my phone, pod & pad.   They seem to function as best they can but the steps iTunes requires to optimize and sync several thousand photos makes this a VERY long process.

  • HT1040 upload problem iPhoto book

    while ordering iPhoto book,
uploading is interrupted everytime by own process.
    What to do?

It would help if you gave some details like the version of iPhoto and of the OS and the exact error message you are getting - we know nothing about your or your system except what you tell us
    the general answer is
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If the preview is good order - if you have a problem then boot into safe mode and order

Re: Convert iPhoto Events to Photos Albumsin response to Kevin Hawkins
I had the same problem. There is a quick and easy fix. Go to My Albums section and then go into the album "iPhoto Events" and then hit Command + A (Select All) that will highlight all the events. Then right click and click on move events out of "iPhoto Events". Once you do this, all your events will be individual albums listed in the album section.
.. so why am I unable to do that?

  • Synching iPhoto & iPod Touch Problems?

I have always synched my macbook iPhoto library with my iPod Touch and until recently this has always worked well. The last 2 times I have tried to do it though, the synch has only copied 4 photos from the last 2 new events uploaded into iPhoto. I have checked the photos and they are all jpeg formats. I cant think of anything else to do. I am using iPhoto 11, 9.3
Has anyone else experienced this problem? If you have, how did you resolve it.
    Thanks
    Heather

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

  • Can I move an iPhoto event from Mac to Mac?

My wife and I both have MacBooks with our own iPhoto libraries. Although we each have our own photos in our libraries, there are times when we both want the same photos in our library. Sometimes we simply each download the photos from the camera and do our own thing in our separate libraries. But there are times when we are traveling with the camera and just one MacBook and we'll download photos into events and edit them. When we get home, we often want to move these photos (usually edited and nicely organized into events) to the other MacBook. I've been exporting the photos to a temporary folder, transferring them to the other MacBook over our network or using Firewire, and then importing them into iPhoto on the other MacBook.
Is there a way to move an iPhoto event from one MacBook to another? If so, will it bring the "original" (prior to being edited photos) as well as the edited versions? I understand the whole non-destructive editing thing.
I've looked in Finder, opened iPhoto Library with "Show Package Contents", and noticed that there are folders for each year that I have photos (e.g. 1999, 2000, 2001, etc.), and in each year folder there seems to be a folder for each event. In the event folders are the .jpg files. I was thinking that perhaps I could just copy the event folder from one MacBook to the other (placing it in the same place in the "year" folder), but I wasn't sure if this would screw up the iPhoto database that I drop them into. I'm pretty sure that the "importing" process of getting photos into iPhoto involves more than just dropping photos in a folder.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Use iPhoto Library Manager as Terence suggested. It would work like this .
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • IPhoto Events Duplicated Suddenly-do I delete?

In the last month (and there WAS an iphoto update during that time) I suddenly have dupicate iphoto EVENTS but there are 3 different kinds:
1)Duplicate events: same EVENT NAME, same NUMBER PHOTOS.
2)Duplicate events: slightly altered EVENT NAME, same NUMBER PHOTOS. (this may be a windows transfer issue** see note below)
3)Duplicate EVENT NAME but SOME photos missing in 1 event, and complete in another event of the SAME NAME.
Should I assume that all my photos are fine and just delete the duplicate event and delete the event of the same name but with fewer pics in that event (assuming the event with more pics is "safer" to keep)?
I'm somewhat new to iphoto (on it for 2 years): can I assume if I click on "PHOTOS" in the left pane, those are ALL my photo's in my "Photo Library" or is my Photo Library actually my "EVENTS"? or are photos and events essentialy the same thing? If it exists in "PHOTOS" is it an official jpeg-picture-file? How can there be 2 files of the EXACT SAME NAME?? Both sets of pics say "DSC-0001" (and the numbers go up from there) in the PHOTO LIBRARY. Why doesn't the Photo Library reject that since 2 files cannot normally be in the same place?
I could use Time Machine and replace the photo library with one from a month ago. But how do I know what really happened? This whole thing is unsettling. I'm assuming I have not lost a single of my 44,000 pics I've loaded but why did iPhoto duplicate about 10 events?
**And even more odley: why did it duplicate 3 of them with slightly different names. They may have had these "different file names" when I transfered them from a Windows Computer 2 years ago, but I can't remember and I've not had this duplicate problem happen until earlier this month.
My spouse is saying we should download Picassa and go back to the that but I REALLY like iPhoto and want to keep it. I need to feel that my photo library is SAFE and seeing it in a window-tree (alla Picassa and windows) seems familiar, I know it's not inherently safer than iPhoto/iMac but this duplicating event is unsettling.

are photos and events essentialy the same thing?
Yes - two different ways to view your photos in the iPhoto library
Why doesn't the Photo Library reject that since 2 files cannot normally be in the same place?
Because they are not in the same place - iPhoto is not about files - it is about photos - iPhoto keeps track of the files in a folder structure - you do not ever go into it
What changes have you made recently? for there to be a duplicate in iPhoto you would have had to import it - iPhoto does not duplicate photos
    That is totally your choice
having your photos safe is NOT a function of the manager you are using but of your backup systems - iPhoto will not lose your photos nor will Picassa - but system, hardware and user failures will - a backup is the only way to be sure your photos are safe
Note that Picassa has many disadvantages re iPhoto - it does not integrate into other Apple software  - it does not provide lossless editing - it does not allow you to upgrade to professional level photo management software (Aperture) directly and it does not integrate with the iPad, iPod and iPhone like iPhotos does or with Photo Stream and iCLoud.
As to duplicates I suggest using Duplicate annailator, DeCloner or iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  for identifying them

  • IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11

My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11!  Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software.  I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up.  Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work.  I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either.  However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked!  I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked!  So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library!  AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
              1. Open your new iPhoto Library
              2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
              3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
              4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
              5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
              6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!

I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
    Open your new iPhoto Library
Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
    Click on "Show Package Contents"
Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto!  For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
              GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Accidentally merged all iPhoto events. How do I get my event data back?

I accidentally merged my iPhoto events all into one event. I'm using iPhoto 11 on Yosemite. My problem is, my last backup to my external hard drive was in April 2014 (I know, my fault). Is there a way to restore the events? I notice in the metadata there are event files that date up to April 2014. Can I use these to restore the events? I realize I might not be able to get the events from April 2014 onward restored. But is there a way to at least restore the events created prior to April 2014?
I'm not really sure how all the metadata and backup files work so any help is appreciated.

Well no one has ever found a way.
Try rebuild with iPhoto Library manager.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
