IPhoto export default

iPhoto11/10.7.5, and I want to set the export default folder to Desktop instead of Pictures. Do I understand it isn't possible (or didn't used to be possible) to change that default? Holy moley!

If typing command-d is too much then try using this:

one of the first things I install on any Mac.

  • How to make iPhoto the default photo program

I belong to a photo sharing site where I upload photos. When I click "browse" at the site, iPhoto automatically opens and I can select and upload my photo. A friend with a new Mac does the same thing - clicks "browse," but iPhoto doesn't open.  I think she needs to somehow make iPhoto her default, but I can't figure out how to do that.

Do you mean to upload to the site?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Iphoto 09 default library

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere....
Does anyone know if there is a way of setting up iphoto 09 for a macbook pro with mac os x 10.6.3 so that it can point to all the photos and folders stored in the mac hd/user/pictures folder.
I am struggling with trying to manage pictures as i now have too many and so want to store folders externally and as a result i am getting tired of moving folders in an oout for every device i have.

Sounds like a job for iPhoto.
Why struggle to manage them? Let iPhoto do it for you?
Import them to iPhoto then - should you need to move - just copy the Library.
You can run a Referenced LIbrary:
    *How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    *What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    *Some things to consider:*
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
    My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organiser
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • IPhoto Export to My Passport

I exported my photos from iPhoto to My Passport external drive in order to make room on my MacBook Air.  The photos are still showing in iPhoto.  Do I need to delete the library?

iPhoto Export leaves the original in place. You can delete them in iPhoto, then empty the Trash in iPhoto and then the trash on your Mac to completely free up the space.
Another option you may want to consider would be the following: iPhoto '11: Move your iPhoto library to a new location

  • Iphoto export and transparency

    Hi People,
Does anyone know how i can make my autoviewer slideshow which I am using with iphoto export have a transparent background so the iweb page behind shows through around the photos?
Right now the frame colour and background colour in the webexport options are: background 181818 and framecolour 181818. Any advice would be appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Ben (Brazil)

    Ben:
I'm not sure what you mean by autoviewer. Is that a 3rd party application or plugin? As far as creating a Quicktime movie file with a transparent background I've never heard of that capability being available in any application.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto export broken?

Since the Maverick updates, iPhoto "Export" no longer works.
I can select a photo, go to the file menu, then select "Export"
I still see the Export dialog window.
However, when I click on the Export button, nothing happens.
Has anyone else had this problem?
More importantly, is there a fix? I realize that I can work around it with "show photo in Finder", but I'd like Export to work properly.
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto: Export videos with titles

All of my videos are in iPhoto, and I've added titles to all of the videos within iPhoto.
However, when I EXPORT these videos to my desktop, iPhoto doesn't export them with the titles that I've assigned to them in iPhoto.
iPhoto exports them with their generic title (such as "img_0015.mov") that they originally had when I first shot the videos.
How can I get iPhoto to export all of these videos with their titles intact?

Are you checking this checkbox in the slideshow settings pane?
which will give you this in the slide:

How do I change my iphoto export location from Kodak Gallery to Shutterfly?

You also may want to re-post in the iPhotoforum, it is located at:

    Good luck!
BTW have you checked iPhoto Preferences?????

  • IPhoto export photo quality

Is there a way to manually dictate the JPG image quality upon iphoto export to web? The images the automatic web portfolio is very poor. Quality 5 at best.
There must be a way to hard set this export feature.

There are two quality levels involved when you add iPhoto photos to an iWeb photo page: 1 - the quality of the image used for the iWeb slideshow presentation and that of the file provided for download from that site. Which are you concerned with?
What's the URL of your site so we can examine the photos first hand? Also what are the pixel dimensions of the photos that you are transferring to iWeb?

  • Iphoto export size

What are the actual pixel sizes of the small, medium and large iPhoto export (jpeg) options?  I have already read what the suggested purpose of each size is, but I can not find the numeric pixel size the will be exported.
    Thanks

It's a factor of the size of the Original image, so it depends on that.
However, in the same place in the dialogue box you can choose to export to a specific size too.

  • HT4718 After burning a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD, it will not play on my DVD player OS X 10.9.4

iMac 27' OS X 10.9.4 I burned a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD and now it will not play back on anything. The player said Unknown disc. What can i do?

I do find that using one of these programs will reduce the sharpness of the photos.
Granted, I've never used iPhoto - I use Photo to Movie for slideshows and various versions of iMovie for videos, but my pics are excellent quality and my videos are shot in 1080p (better camera)  or 720p (small camera) and the results are superb on my TV using both iDVD and Toast. However, I do not encode in iDVD, I simply use it to add a theme and menus. The encoding is done by Photo to Movie, or iMovie 06 HD (the only version ever to process losslessly) and either/both are imported into iDVD as a complete .mov, or Toast.
Since using those methods, I've never had a problem with the sharpness or crispness of my footage. My eyes cannot discern a difference between my "production" and true HD (unless of course I shook the camera while shooting, LOL).

  • Iphoto export to facebook problem

The iphoto exporter tool sent x rated pictures to my Facebook account instead of my photos. Why did that happen? I restarted everything and now everything is okay. Do I have a virus on my computer that I need to remove? Where did the p@rn pictures come from?

There are no known viruses in the wild for the Mac so it is unlikely that you have one
Unless those **** photos are somewhere on your Mac then the problem is on the Facebook side - maybe someone has hacked your facebook account

  • IPhoto exporting issues, doesn't keep color settings?

    I have a weird problem.
If I export a picture from iPhoto, the resulting file doesn't look the same way as the original. At least not in Firefox and other web browsers (IE?). It DOES look like the original in iPhoto, Preview and Safari though.
Here's an example; Original in iPhoto, export in Preview and Firefox are the same file:
    http://bp1.blogger.com/N0GLS5q5xhE/RaqWJdh4QtI/AAAAAAAAAM0/qS-3XnI3CM/s1600-h/screen.jpg
You can clearly see that the Firefox view is more pale.
    Latest version of iPhoto.
Tried both with NEF raw and jpg as originals.
    Ideas?

That's a question for the Firefox people really. The profiles are attached, that's why the pic looks the same in iPhoto Safari and Preview. It's a case of getting Firefox to respect them.

  • IDVD crash when iPhoto exports slideshow

My G5 1.8 Ghz crashes when iPhoto exports slideshow. Help!

Drag both these to the trash and restart your mac:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Then Repair Permissions from apple's disc utilities.
Run apple's software updater but do not install just yet. Just post back and let us know if apple system pref / software updater sees any required updates. (Pay close attention to QT as well).
Hope this helps but if not come on back.
