Iphoto export makes image files disappear

I export 200 Jpg and mp4 files from iphoto to a network disk folder. After export, finder only shows the 20 mp4 files. When I try to export one or more of the jpg files a second time, I'm told the files already exist. I just want to make sure my files are safe and can be accessed by other computers and photo software.

from iphoto to a network disk folder.
Try export to a Folder on the Desktop and then drag that to your Network Disk. I'm pretty sure this issue is caused by the format of your NAS.

Thanks for your response.  My profiles are located within color sync utility as you can see here:
These profiles do not respond to clicking and dragging.  Since they are all in one place, more or less, I'm reluctant to make further attempts to relocate them.  Accessing the CMYK profile is the first difficult experience I've encountered with this arrangement.  I have never needed the CMYK profile until recently, and that need has now past.  However, it remains a mystery to me as to why it does not appear with all the others on the menu of export choices in Aperture 2, or on the menu of profile assignment choices in the Preview application (where again all the other profiles are listed as choices).  I'm beginning to think my current set up will permit me to view an image that was created in CMYK space, but does not easily assign, or convert to that space.  I don't face these restrictions with all the others, so it remains a curious circumstance for me.  I anticipate upgrading my computer and software in the near future which might alleviate this issue altogether.  Again, many thanks for your attention to this matter.  The reach of this community is astounding.

  • A few image files disappeared: can't be re-imported from backup

There are at least a 4 dozen pictures imported into LR 5.x last September that now cannot be searched and which are not in the dated folder where they should be - even if searched in Windows Explorer. It's part of an event, and it appears to be all those on one card from one body. I remember seeing these images in the Library module at the time. No Previews with question marks.
If I go to the duplicated import created that day I find the "missing" images in the folder created at that time. Yea Adobe for creating the easy back-up for importing. In this backup folder the images can be searched and opened in either Windows Explorer or a viewer like FastStone. .  If I put the files into the date-organized database folder (to "Synchronize" in the main directory) LR says it cannot import them as they are already part of the database. I tried copying these files in Explorer to a different hard drive and tried importing again: no help.
How can I convince LR that these need to be re-imported? More importantly, can anyone offer a scenario by which these image files disappeared from the disk and didn't leave a preview with a question mark? I didn't actually do any work (Dev module) that I remember on these. I certainly can go through with Bridge and batch rename this little set and present them again  as an import request. But what causes something to drop out of the DB and disappear as a file? Obviously some kind of operator error is the most likely, I understand.
Deleting all Previews? Seems like that would make the machine work for hours to redo Previews for 90,000 pix.

Thanks for the suggestions (and warnings). I am pretty experienced with Lightroom and know the structure behind it. What was weird here was that when I try to bring one of the images back in through Synch or Import, says "It's already part of the database" BUT when searching for the image by file name LR finds others that share the same file number (not strange) but NOT the image I want (strange). This search was performed at the root of the file/folder structure, so should be looking into every folder in the database. An Explorer search shows that the image is no longer in the database folders. It is only found in the "Backup" folders created by LR when ingesting the card at the original import.
OK, so use the OS to move some of the files (12) back "inside" the folder, click Synch folder and it tells me there are 12 new photos. So far so good. BUT -- although they are now "there" in the folder and re-imported they still do not show up in the Library thumbnail view and can't be searched in Lightroom (by file name). The 12 didn't show up on a import screen with one lone PS image in that batch that was newly created this afternoon and DID show as a new import. I expected to see the 12 on that screen.
To answer one question offered today: No, the images do not show in the Develop module.
So something tells Lightroom these are not new and that they are aready there. However, not searchable.
Next step changing the names of the offending file, like appending a letter. See if that makes them look "new".
I think I can fix this as long as I have to original CR2 files unprocessed, which thankfully, I do. Anyone have a theory about what causes this? Never had it happen.

  • Will iPhoto recognize duplicate image files on import?

I was wondering if when importing image files into iPhoto 09 there are 2 files with the same name and EXIF data will iPhoto not import the dupe or at least warn that there is a file by the same name already in the catalog?

It will warn you and ask you what you want to do.

  • Export html - Image files names

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a project with an image (map of Italy) that highlight any region on mouseover (rollover).
Everything is fine, and when I preview on firefox it looks great.
Problem is that when i export it (export with images in a folder), it creates some strange names of these files (ie: no title_r1_c1_d1), that is not recognized by other html softwares (joomla).
Is there any way to export these file names with another name?
The project is really long and it would be impossible to rename these files when the have allready been exported, so I need to find a solution to tell fireworks to export them in a right format.
    Thanks in advance

I'd suggest looking at the Export options (in the dialog that appears after choosing File > Export). For instance, maybe it would help to deselect "Include Areas without Slices".
In addition, you could experiment with the HTML Setup options (by clicking the Options button in the above dialog or by choosing File > HTML Setup). For example, in the Document Specific section, there are file naming options for slices.
Sorry, but there are a lot of variables and unknowns in what you're describing, and it's hard to narrow down what's happening. These are general suggestions.

  • Placed images/files disappearing from Creative Cloud

I am getting a little frustrated as every time I open a couple of my Indesign documents, one or two of the placed PDFs is gone from Cloud. I have to go back to the emails, search for the client's file, reformat, etc. and then resave to CC, and then relink in Indesign. How stable or unstable is Cloud? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have been using dropbox for years and it is so awesome, and fast. Creative Cloud is slower, and it appears it should work on the same basics as Dropbox, I do know if I shut my computer down too quickly, files sometimes do not get saved/updated correctly. The other day Creative Cloud was down for the evening, although you are still able to access the desktop Creative Cloud, but it worries me that if I work from home, save files, then have to go on location to a client, open the files remotely, will the files always be there...
I want to know if anyone else is having issues with files disappearing, mine are mostly PDFs clients send me, mostly I only change the color destination, but sometimes I change emails, wording etc. so I have to search around for the client revisions and redo the work...
Are there other steps to do to the pdfs, perhaps there is a conflct in metadata, or other attributes?
I have been using CC for two months now.

  • IMovie 11 - Export Using Quicktime - File Disappears after Export......

    Hey everyone:
I've got a weird one here.  I've made my first project using iMovie.  I want to burn a DVD, so I clicked >>Share >> iDVD and it comes over fine.  I then setup a menu and stuff and burned it.  However, when I play it on my 52" plasma, it doesn't fit correctly.  It fills the screen, but it's almost like it's zoomed in so it cuts off of ALL edges.
So I did some research and found this post and went to try it out.  So within iMovie, I click "share using Quicktime" and change some of the various settings and export the movie as a Quicktime (.MOV) file to my "Movies" folder.  The movie is about 55 minutes, it says it'll take about 35 minutes to export.
35 minutes later I come back and the export box has closed, iMovie is still open, just like it should be, and the file I just exported is nowhere to be found.  It just disappears.  The second and third time I tried, I open a Finder window and watch the file get created, then get larger, and larger.  But once it's done, the file is gone.
So then I created a new project and made a movie that was only 10 minutes long.  It exports fine and the file is there when it's done.  In other words, I can't replicate the problem with a new project.  However, I have a lot of time in editing this movie and don't want to start over for fear of finding the same result.
    What should I do?
    Thanks!

I have this same problem and there are several threads running about it.  I have the paid-for version of iMovie, and cannot even get it to export a Quicktime movie.  This makes it even more useless than I already find it to be.  I spent the last two days working on a video, and for me to send it to my client, I would have to freight my computer to them so they could view it.

  • Correct Lens Profile Not Available for Exported/Imported Image Files

Any help with this would be appreciated.  I just noticed yesterday that when I have RAW (DNG) files in my LR5.2 library, I can select the correct lens profile to apply.  When I take three of those files and merge them together in Photomatix Pro they come back as a single TIFF file.  Now LR only has one lens profile available, and it is the wrong one.
This is happening with my Sony NEX-7 and Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR DI-III VC.  With the RAW files, I have a list of Tamron lenses from which to choose, and the correct one is available.  For the merged TIFF file, however, only a single Tamron lens is available for selection, and it is not the lens I used.
If anyone has any ideas about this and can get me past it, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    ~Steve

Here's my workflow for this particular situation:  After importing the original RAW files, I apply lens correction using the correct profile.  I export to another application that creates a new (TIFF) file that comes back into LR.  Even though I already applied the correction to the original files, I can see that there is a difference in distortion between the original files and the new TIFF.
If your other application is opening the Raw file directly, it will likely be disregarding either most, or all, Lightroom adjustments even if they are somehow communicated to it. It will come down to whatever independent Raw support is built into the other application.
The other application would still need to (a) "understand" about Adobe lens profiles etc, (b) "know" where to find the appropriate Adobe profile on disk, and (c) be equipped to do the specific and proprietary processing that they refer to. The same applies for all the other Adobe-proprietary processing instructions. The only software I am aware of which can do all this reliably, in partnership with LR, is Adobe Camera Raw plus Photoshop.
I've trained myself that whenever a new file is created in an application outside of LR (including PS), I always re-apply lens correction upon first returning to LR.  If I'm interpreting   the above responses correctly, I shouldn't need to re-apply lens correction if I applied it to the original files.  But again, it's not my observation that this is the case.
If your particular workflow is failing to reflect the first application of lens corrections (as well as perhaps, other specific adjustments) - then what returns to LR will not have undergone those kinds of corrections yet.
I'm also hearing that I may need to download a lens profile for this lens for a TIFF file format.  I've never needed to do that before, so perhaps I'll give that a shot.
As I understand it, Photomatix can also accept converted TIFFs or JPGs from LR - instead of Raw fles. I am skeptical that you will realise any "clear water" advantage from sending Raws rather than TIFF (or even, high quality JPG in many cases) from LR into Photomatix  - assuming the LR conversion is already optimising the images for the required purpose. You would be doing that step in an interactive environment rather than blindly via a generic converter. Such intermediate bitmaps are in my experience perfectly good candidates for HDR processing, or for exposure fusion (which I prefer - though I don't use Photomatix in particular).
Any workflow which causes LR to in effect Export suitable bitmaps that incorporate all current adjustments, will embody lens corrections as part of that. By the way, the workflow into Photoshop HDR is similarly done by way of converted bitmaps - though in that case it is ACR rather than LR which achieves these converted bitmaps, and into memory rather than into separately saved files, but the outcome is effectively the same.
The only downside is the "cleanup" is to get rid of intermediate TIFFS or JPGs afterwards. I usually put the completed "merged" image at the top of a "stack" containing the component exposures, and collapse the stack down. But the (disposable) intermediates don't get imported to LR, and by setting these to occur in a subfolder or with a distinctive name suffix, they are easily found and deleted in due course.

  • Why is Illustrator adding a slash to the beginning of all my exported artboard image file names?

When ever I export my artboards as JPGs for my client to view Illustrator has recently started adding a slash to the front of the file name.
For example, until a recent update my files would look like this when I exported them. As one would expect:
    artboard_image_01.jpg
    artboard_image_02.jpg
    artboard_image_03.jpg
    and so on...
But now when I export it does this, even though there is no slash in the file name:
    /artboard_image_01.jpg
    /artboard_image_02.jpg
    /artboard_image_03.jpg
    and so on...
I'm using Illustrator CC 2014 on a Mac running Yosemite 10.10
Any thoughts? It's really annoying and driving me crazy.

I noticed it immediately after updating to the latest version release of Illustrator CC, so I don't think it's the OS. If I need to step back to an older version I will, but I hoped there was a fix.

  • Feature Request: Metadata Export to Sidecar Files

I want to be able to export an image file's metadata to a sidecar XMP file that is named after the image file but with an .xmp extension. For proprietary raw files, that's the default. For DNG files, I can tediously force it by locking the file, loading it into Camera Raw, and selecting the "Export Settings to XMP" function. However I want to do this for several hundred or some thousand image files at once—so loading them all into Camera Raw just to make it export the metadata is not really a feasible method.
Worse yet, for JPEG files exporting the metadata to a sidecar file is not possible at all, as far as I can tell. When the JPEG file is writable then the exported XMP metadata will go into the file itself. When the JPEG file is write-protected then Camera Raw will entirely refuse to export the XMP metadata. This behaviour is inconsistent with other file types, as Camera Raw will happily export the XMP metadata to sidecar files for write-protected DNG files. By the way, there is another inconsistency between write-protected DNG files and proprietary raw image files, as Camera Raw will export XMP metadata for both into sidecar files but Bridge will export XMP metadata to sidecar files only for proprietary raw image files but not for write-protected DNG files. That doesn't make sense.
If an image file is write-protected then any changes to the metadata must go into sidecar files—as simple as that. Why are proprietary raw image files, write-protected DNG files, and write-protected JPEG files behaving differently in this respect? Sidecar files are fully supported for proprietary raw files, half-way supoorted for DNG files, and not supported at all for JPEG files.
Anyway—I need a way to select an arbitrary number of image files of any kind (in Bridge, not in Camera Raw) and then export all their metadata to sidecar files, one sidecar file for each image file, at the push of a button. It would be nice if I weren't forced to tamper with file locking first, just create those damn sidecar files when I'm asking for them. I'd even be happy with a createMetadataTemplate() or saveMetadataToSidecar() function in Bridge's scripting interface. There, I found a function to load a thumbnail's metadata from a metadata template (i. e. an XMP file; see applyMetadataTemplate() function)—but no way to save a thumbnail's complete metadata to a metadata template. If there is a way then please tell me. If there is no way yet then please provide one as soon as possible!

    Curt Y wrote:
My first question is why you want to export metadata to sidecar files.  With DNG one of the touted advantages is that all the metadata is written to the file and no XMP file is needed or created.
This actually is a disadvantage that keeps me from using DNG format. XMP sidecar files are extremely useful to transfer updated metadata from the working set to the backup archive. Sidecar files do make life a lot easier.
Usually I will download the memory cards' contents to the computer's internal hard disk. Then I will add some bulk metadata, rename the files, and make a backup to at least one, preferably two external hard disks. Then I will continue working on the images—refining captions, adding more keywords, add labels and rankings, apply ACR settings. Finally I'll want to update the metadata in the backups. With sidecar files, that would require the transfer of kilobytes. Without, I'll need to transfer gigabytes because I'm forced to update the whole image files when actually I only want to update the metadata ... just because Bridge is too dumb to let me export the metadata to sidecar files. Or actually, it does let me export the metadata to a sidecar file—but only for one image file at a time which is totally useless when I need to update the metadata of hundreds or thousands of image files.
The DNG format does support sidecar files. DNG files can have their metadata internally 'under the hood' or externally in a sidecar file. When there is a sidecar file accompanying a DNG file then Camera Raw or DNG Converter will read and use it just as they would for proprietary raw files ... that's very convenient. Only Bridge doesn't allow the user to take advantage of that flexibilty but forces him to use internal metadata always, whether it makes sense or not.

  • How can I export an image from Illustrator same canvas size and custom resolution?

Hey all.  i am using Adobe Illustrator CS5 for creating images for iPhone app icons the size of image 374 px 374 px and 264 ppi. i created an image same size and ppi .the problem after export the image file size changing to  1371px x 1371px and 264 ppi pixel dimension. How can I export same canvas size and same resolution file from illustrator

    10111980,
If you just forget about PPI and use Save for Web, you will get the 374 x 374 pixel size.
The 1371 x 1371 pixels is because you somehow increase the resolution by 264/72.
You should never mix pixel by pixel sizes and PPI.
The 374 x 374 pixels is the actual image size. At 264 PPI that will be about 1.417 inches. At 72 PPI that will be about 5.194 inches.

  • Disk Utility problems/making a good image file problems

    Hi,
I am trying to make a disk image with Disk Utility. But every time when I run the program, it gathers disk info for a long time and then shuts down in unexpected error. What can be the problem here?
The reason that I want to make a disk image of my cd is this, maybe someone knows a solution for this problem well.
I have the original game cd of Alone in the Dark 1. I played this always on my pc in the past and now, with the help of a program called Boxer that allows to run dos games on the mac, it can run on my mac, but, the music cannot be found. According to the makers of Boxer this is because the music on the cd is separated from the rest of the data as audio tracks. I'm not a programmer so I don't understand everything behind this, but they advised me to make image file of the cd, mount it and then run Boxer with this mounted file.
I cannot do this however, because Toast doesn't make a good image file that includes the audio tracks and Disk Utility is shutting down with an error all the time. Maybe someone knows another solution?
    Best wishes,
    André

Maybe, but this cd if from 1992, did they do that already those days? However, I can make with Toast an image from the game, but the soundtracks are not included then. I can listen to the tracks in Itunes, they are visible like a normal audio cd. My only wish... is to play the games. Visiting the past, so to speak. And I can not play it on Windows, because it is not supported anymore after dos left the stage and I tried so many bootdisks on my pc, nothing works. Boxer therefore was a good help. The music though brings live to the game...
