Iphoto export organization

Is there a way to export all the photos from my Iphoto app onto an external drive, yet still keep them organized in events by date like they are in Iphoto?

MacUserSinceThe80s wrote:
How? I tried to export several events from one iPhoto library to another, and so I exported to a midpoint file then imported to newly opened iphoto library and all the files have today's date on them! Also I am plagued with duplicates and so I don't know which seemingly identical event has the larger files, many of the imported files were thumbnail files, only 100K from 2 or so Meg.
I am literally years overdue on organizing THOUSANDS of family photos which I never systematically organized or backed up
You can  not export to another iPhoto library
File dates are just that - file dates and have nothing to do with photo dates - Photo dates (on digital photos from a digital camera) have the date embeded in them in the EXIF data - photo viewers use this date - file vieweers use the file date -
What exactly is the reason you are doing this? Organizaing photo not require any of this - iPhoto is an organizer
and with no backup you are at great risk for loaind everything including your photos
many of the imported files were thumbnail files, only 100K from 2 or so Meg.
This sounds like you did not export anything but somply imported one iphoto library into another iPhoto library - NEVER do this - it does not work, creates massive duplication
So to help we need to knwo what you have, what you want to do and what you did - exactly step buy step
And since this really have nothing to do with export organization it would be better to start a new thread

  • Why does iPhoto 6 organize as rolls now?

Hi! I recently imported my iPhoto 5 library to my iPhoto 6. While all of the pictures and everything imported just fine, my organizing is all messed up. Now instead of iPhoto organizing it by date in the files, it organizes it by roll. My iPhoto 5 did not do this and I was just wondering how I could change it. Thanks!

    Hi Cameron,
This is how iPhoto 6 organizes in the Finder now. Nothing you can do to change it.
iPhoto 6 Library folder in the Finder
As you can see the structure is now related to rolls. Rolls are created for each folder you import and each import session from a camera.
It is very easy to change the names of film rolls within iPhoto to make them easier to find images within. Open the info panel in iPhoto by clicking on the "i" icon. Once it is opened, click on the roll title in the viewing window.
Click on the word "title" in the info pane and type in your new title. I like to use a date and text format such as 12/25/05 Christmas at Mom's, 1/05/06 my birthday, etc. Once the roll names are changed within iPhoto, they are also changed within the Finder, making it easy to locate an image.
When importing from a camera, make sure you name the roll with a date and text before the import.

  • IPhoto Export to My Passport

I exported my photos from iPhoto to My Passport external drive in order to make room on my MacBook Air.  The photos are still showing in iPhoto.  Do I need to delete the library?

iPhoto Export leaves the original in place. You can delete them in iPhoto, then empty the Trash in iPhoto and then the trash on your Mac to completely free up the space.
Another option you may want to consider would be the following: iPhoto '11: Move your iPhoto library to a new location

  • Iphoto export and transparency

    Hi People,
Does anyone know how i can make my autoviewer slideshow which I am using with iphoto export have a transparent background so the iweb page behind shows through around the photos?
Right now the frame colour and background colour in the webexport options are: background 181818 and framecolour 181818. Any advice would be appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Ben (Brazil)

    Ben:
I'm not sure what you mean by autoviewer. Is that a 3rd party application or plugin? As far as creating a Quicktime movie file with a transparent background I've never heard of that capability being available in any application.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto export broken?

Since the Maverick updates, iPhoto "Export" no longer works.
I can select a photo, go to the file menu, then select "Export"
I still see the Export dialog window.
However, when I click on the Export button, nothing happens.
Has anyone else had this problem?
More importantly, is there a fix? I realize that I can work around it with "show photo in Finder", but I'd like Export to work properly.
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto: Export videos with titles

All of my videos are in iPhoto, and I've added titles to all of the videos within iPhoto.
However, when I EXPORT these videos to my desktop, iPhoto doesn't export them with the titles that I've assigned to them in iPhoto.
iPhoto exports them with their generic title (such as "img_0015.mov") that they originally had when I first shot the videos.
How can I get iPhoto to export all of these videos with their titles intact?

Are you checking this checkbox in the slideshow settings pane?

Is there a way to manually dictate the JPG image quality upon iphoto export to web? The images the automatic web portfolio is very poor. Quality 5 at best.
There must be a way to hard set this export feature.

There are two quality levels involved when you add iPhoto photos to an iWeb photo page: 1 - the quality of the image used for the iWeb slideshow presentation and that of the file provided for download from that site. Which are you concerned with?
What's the URL of your site so we can examine the photos first hand? Also what are the pixel dimensions of the photos that you are transferring to iWeb?

What are the actual pixel sizes of the small, medium and large iPhoto export (jpeg) options?  I have already read what the suggested purpose of each size is, but I can not find the numeric pixel size the will be exported.

It's a factor of the size of the Original image, so it depends on that.
However, in the same place in the dialogue box you can choose to export to a specific size too.

  • HT4718 After burning a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD, it will not play on my DVD player OS X 10.9.4

iMac 27' OS X 10.9.4 I burned a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD and now it will not play back on anything. The player said Unknown disc. What can i do?

I do find that using one of these programs will reduce the sharpness of the photos.
Granted, I've never used iPhoto - I use Photo to Movie for slideshows and various versions of iMovie for videos, but my pics are excellent quality and my videos are shot in 1080p (better camera)  or 720p (small camera) and the results are superb on my TV using both iDVD and Toast. However, I do not encode in iDVD, I simply use it to add a theme and menus. The encoding is done by Photo to Movie, or iMovie 06 HD (the only version ever to process losslessly) and either/both are imported into iDVD as a complete .mov, or Toast.
Since using those methods, I've never had a problem with the sharpness or crispness of my footage. My eyes cannot discern a difference between my "production" and true HD (unless of course I shook the camera while shooting, LOL).

The iphoto exporter tool sent x rated pictures to my Facebook account instead of my photos. Why did that happen? I restarted everything and now everything is okay. Do I have a virus on my computer that I need to remove? Where did the p@rn pictures come from?

There are no known viruses in the wild for the Mac so it is unlikely that you have one
Unless those **** photos are somewhere on your Mac then the problem is on the Facebook side - maybe someone has hacked your facebook account

  • IPhoto exporting issues, doesn't keep color settings?

    I have a weird problem.
If I export a picture from iPhoto, the resulting file doesn't look the same way as the original. At least not in Firefox and other web browsers (IE?). It DOES look like the original in iPhoto, Preview and Safari though.
Here's an example; Original in iPhoto, export in Preview and Firefox are the same file:
    http://bp1.blogger.com/N0GLS5q5xhE/RaqWJdh4QtI/AAAAAAAAAM0/qS-3XnI3CM/s1600-h/screen.jpg
You can clearly see that the Firefox view is more pale.
    Latest version of iPhoto.
Tried both with NEF raw and jpg as originals.
    Ideas?

    Mattias.

That's a question for the Firefox people really. The profiles are attached, that's why the pic looks the same in iPhoto Safari and Preview. It's a case of getting Firefox to respect them.

  • Problem w/Walgreens iphoto exporter

I just installed the Walgreens iPhoto exporter, and have not been able to use it b/c after I try to login, I get this error: "Server returned an invalid response. Please try later."  I have tried to reboot, reinstall the exporter, deleted cookies & caches but still can not get it to work.  I have used Walgreens before to upload but since upgrading to Snow Leopard/iLife '11, their program only wants to choose my old iphoto library and not my current one, which is why I went to the iPhoto exporter today.  Any suggestions?

can you upload to Walgreens via Safari? If so use the standard supported access method
we could scroll down to "Media," and were able to choose "Photos," which opened up our Photo Albums in iPhoto that we had created, and could choose the pictures we wanted to upload.  We have been able to do this several times.
