Iphoto facebook exporter - faded images

Hi can anyone help me with my problem? Ive been using the iphoto facebook explorer for ages, but all of a sudden it is uploading my images with the colours very faded to facebook.
Ive uninstalled and reinstalled - done the lastest iphoto upgrades..
any other ideas?
Thanks!!

Looks like you still don't get it. Normally if we upload photos using Facebook Exporter for iPhoto, the images would still retain the 'colour information' but obviously lose some quality (like size, clarity, etc.) but the COLOUR stays, thus the photo will look similar to the one we have in iPhoto.
Meanwhile, uploading manually using the default Facebook photo uploader will result in the stripping of colour information, so basically before this problem happened, photos uploaded using this method will look a little faded in color and of course crappier than using the iPhoto. However, most Mac user might not realize this fact since they have been uploading photos to Facebook using iPhoto.
And the problem we're having right now is uploading using iPhoto actually results in really crappier images than using default method. The colour information is no longer retained, the colour looks 'faded', desaturated, less contrast. It's so bad, that people who normally use iPhoto to upload would realise a huge difference. This is a fact, the discussions page for the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto is full of people complaining about this. It's not about why should we care about photo quality in Facebook, it's about why this problem happened. And so far no one has come up with any solutions, and neither Apple nor Facebook has responded.

  • IPhoto facebook exporter login error

I know this is a common problem, or was, but I am trying to login to facebook via iPhoto exporter.  When I click on logon, it just says
"An error occurred with Facebook Exporter for iPhoto. Please try again later."
I've been at this for a few days trying to figure it out.  I've deleted com.apple.iphoto.plist, deleted my cookies, tried to reinstall safari, (even though I use firefox and it pops up).  Is there a preference that I am not selecting?  It is becoming quite frustrating, and I'm not sure if there is another way to do things (other than export whole album on to desktop and do it manually from facebook).  Any help would be appreciated!!!

We are having the same problem. However, I don't think it has anything to do with the software on our computer because the exporter works on my facebook account but not on my wife's. But I can't see what causes it.

  • IPhoto/Facebook export issues

My iPhoto is not exporting to Facebook properly. Either it simply does nothing after I click on the appropriate buttons (when it used to say " X photos upload to your Facebook Album", or it crashes and closes or it uploads the incorrect photos. I have never had trouble before. I have sent a report to Apple with every crash, and even added comments. I searched online and found no help.  One time, I got an error message about rebuilding iPhoto, which I have done. I have also  backed up my iPhoto to my external hard drive. Can anyone tell me anything else that I can try? Please note, I am not tech savvy. I buy Apple products because they are easy for me to use and have never owned a PC ( Apple since the iic, but still, it is all Greek to me.)  I can follow simple instructions, but am no "Genius".  Thank you!

Not if you export them via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu with these two checkboxes checked
and (if you want the file names to reflect what you changed the Title to)
That will embed the metadata into the image file and, if FB can read the IPTC fields in the image file, will be displayed in FB (I don't use FB so don't know if it does read the iPTC metadata of image files).

  • How do I remove the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto?

    Hello,
I have recently installed v1.0.8 of Facebook Exporter for iPhoto, and it hangs on the first picture I attempt to upload. It is unusable. I had found the previous version 1.0.6 which worked great and downloaded that, and subsequently attempted to install it. However, the installer errors out stating that there is already a previous version installed. The v1.0.6 and v1.0.8 installers, do not have an uninstall feature either. Direct support for this package is impossible from the developer.
I'm asking if anyone could lay out exactly what I need to remove in order that I can proceed with downgrading to the v1.0.6 once again. I have asked in other forums(not here) and have had only "upgrade all your software to the latest versions and everything should work" answers, which were and are completely useless. If an upgrade is required of something, please be specific as to why.
Note that, I have already performed this function as outlined here, http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=222897111055523, which simply describes deleting a folder in their install directory. This has not worked, meaning the removal has worked, however reinstalling the previous version envokes the error about a later version.
    Versions involved;
MacBook Pro, 2.53ghz, core 2 duo
    MacOS v10.6.8
    iPhoto '09, v8.1..2 (424)
    Thanks,

  • Problems with the Facebook Exporter in iPhoto 08

Has anybody successfully used the Facebook Exporter plugin for iPhoto? Every time I try to upload multiple photos, it has a bar saying "Exporting 1/{whatever number}", but then comes up with the following error:
"Couldn't upload photo "{photo number}" because an unknown error occurred."
...and it gives me the option of:
"Back to Facebook Exporter" or "Review Facebook Album"
...if I click on the latter, it goes to Facebook and shows that the first Photo has indeed uploaded successfully. So I've been going through doing it one at a time but that is pretty tedius!
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? It doesn't matter what the photo's are, it does it every time.
    Cheers.

Must have been a dodgy version of the exporter as having downloaded an update it works fine...

  • Facebook exporter for iPhoto 11 problem!

I previously had installed the Facebook exporter for iPhoto and it worked fine. It always showed up as a tab in File Export. Now with Iphoto 11 the tab for facebook has disappeared. I went to the download page for it again to reinstall it and when I go through the installation process and it asks where to install I have the exclamation mark on my Mac hard drive with the following error. "Facebook exporter for iPhoto can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this software already exists on this disk.
I went to plugins and removed it yet I still get this error on reinstallation. Why won't the exporter work anymore or install?
I like this much better than the built in one on iPhoto as it lets me caption each photo before I upload.

    I found the problem
It seems the version of facebook exporter found on the applesite is an older one.
I downloaded a newer version on versiontracker and that fixed it.
tha one I am using now is facebook exporter iphoto v 1.0.5

  • Can't export from iphoto '11 to facebook with facebook exporter

    Help!
I've been trying to export photos from iPhoto '11 (Version 9.2.1) without success.  I am running OS X (10.6.8).  This is the error message I keep seeing, no matter which way I attempt to make a connection (through the 'Accounts' window in Preferences, or through the 'Share' tab when I select a photo to export).
Here are the following steps I have taken, without any success:
    Changed my Facebook password.
    Logged out of Facebook.
Downloaded and installed the 'Facebook Exporter for iPhoto' plugin from Facebook; alhtough this is suspect, since here's the most recent comment from Facebook on this plugin:
The home for the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto - athttp://developers.facebook.com /iphoto/ - is temporarily down, as we build out a new version of it. In the meantime, you can download the application from this profile page, using the button at the left. Happy photo sharing!

Re-booted my Mac after installing the plugin.
Verified that the plugin is actually on my hard drive.
Searched Google and Apple Support for help, but here I am...
I really don't like Facebook, so maybe this the final hint that I should just give it up...

Use Apple mail - set in the iPhoto preferences

  • How do I export my images from iPhoto 9.4, to an external drive?

How do I export my images from iPhoto 9.4, to an external drive?
mainly to back them up without using time machine.
    Thanks

    Just the Images?
    File -> Export

has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
To back up the Library: that is images, organisation, edit history etc etc
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • What happened to facebook exporter for iphoto?

I keep getting an error when trying to share photos from iphoto to facebook. I have tried all the common things, but now I see that there is no longer facebook exporter for iphoto. I have had this Macbook Air since May, and was able to share photos via iphoto exporter to facebook, and now all of a sudden it is not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had Iphoto exporter plugin installed previously and it would show up on file-export as an option. Then mysteriously it was gone as an option. I tried to download the plugin again from Cnet and when I try to install it I get and error saying "It can't be opened because of an inidentified developer my security preferences only allow installation of only apps from your Mac app store and identified developers"
How do I turn off that security so I can reinstall it again. As for why my original install disappeared I am mystified about that. Why was it there one month and then poof gone the next month?
I like that 3rd party plugin as it lets me caption all the photo's and rearrange the order and write a discription all in one application. It works better than the share button way of doing it to facebook.
Is it not compatible with Iphoto 9.4.1?

  • Is there a secret place in my mac the Facebook Exporter for iPhoto is hiding?

I recently installed Facebook Exporter for iPhoto 1.0.7 on my Mac OS X 10.6.8, with iPhoto version 7.1.5. It read the install was complete.
I tried using the program and it didn't seem to synch with Facebook (says there's a connection error). After reading about numerous problems people have encountered with this plug-in, i decided to remove it.
I've tried following the instructions to uninstall the plug-in, but I can't seem to find the file where it's supposed to be stored, in the Package Contents under iPhoto. As far as I can tell, the program did install because a Facebook option is still showing up in my iPhoto exports menu.
My computer seems to be running slow and stalling since installing the plug-in and I just want to get rid of it once and for all. Please help. Thanks

Download and run Find Any File to search for  files with "Facebook" in the file name.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. This will help you see where the plugin is located on your hard drive.
But for a fix reggie has the correct suggestion, contact the developers.

  • FaceBook export and iPhone Sync

I have used the FaceBook exporter for iPhoto and the exporter for Aperture. The former works fine the latter hangs. Insofar as it seems to usually manage to send the images, though not always, but the export activity just gets stuck going round and round and I have to cancel in the activity window. I have uninstalled the plug in and installed a newly downloaded version but no success. Am I alone?
Am I alone in using Aperture and iPhoto side by side, each being suited to a particular kind of task (work/leisure etc)? If not, does anyone know a way to be able to sync selected Aperture AND iPhoto images to an iPhone? It is very irksome having to to select certain images in one and move them across to the other, just so I can take the images I want with me on the road.

    Hey Kakgungor,
What problem are you having? I have been able to use the Facebook uploader with not too many hiccups except a few recent ones.
    1. Sometimes what is uploaded from Aperture is the unrotated, unedited pictures. Also, long version names from Aperture (which stupidly sync as the caption) tend to cause this, in my experience. I had to create new versions from the masters and apply the adjustments again, then upload only went smoothly when I left the version name as-is and edited later.
    2. When albums don't load completely to Facebook, often you get "missing" image markers in your Facebook album, even after re-syncing.
    3. Tags/Faces don't really sync back & forth that well. I'm still testing this out.
Share with us your problem so we can figure something out and maybe write bug reports to Apple & Facebook & Flickr.

  • IPhoto/Facebook/Aperture Query

    Hey guys,
I know that iPhoto is supposed to two-way sync with Facebook and I'm not going to complain about it (unlike all the other iPhoto-Facebook support threads I've just read through). My question is slightly different...
I switched over all my libraries to Aperture, for the increased organization, features, etc etc. I love it. I even like the third-party Facebook exporter plugin that Aperture supports.
But I still have a few albums on iPhoto that are synched with Facebook. They have comments and tags and such so I don't want to remove them from my account or reupload them, but these photos are also taking up about a gigabyte of harddrive space in the iPhoto library (not to mention being duplicated in the Aperture library).
So, what I am wondering is if there is someway to leave those photos untouched on Facebook, and cause iPhoto to forget about them? I want to keep iPhoto around, because I do like some of its image editing tools, but I won't be keeping any of my master images there nor will I upload any more photos from iPhoto to facebook.
Regarding other threads, I've come up with a few ideas of making this work. If someone could please let me know if any of these sound correct, I'd really appreciate it.
    1) Just delete the iPhoto library file. Upon launching iPhoto next, it will create a new library file and should not have any ties with my facebook account? This would allow those albums to stay online but remove them from my HDD? (unlock the facebook album info is stored in a preference file somewhere and deleting the library doesn't affect it?)
    2) I've heard that I could create a new, empty album on facebook and move all the photos from the old albums into that one... which keeps all the tags/comments/etc. I think this would also make the old photos seem new though, so I don't really want to go this route, if it can be avoided.
So, I guess what I am really wondering is: would option 1 work, in my case? I guess I could also set-up a little snitch rule to prevent iPhoto from connecting to Facebook... What do you guys think is the easiest solution?
    Cheers

That worked! The facebook album was still in the sidebar, so to be careful, I denied all outgoing connections with little snitch when i deleted it, since it was still giving me the "delete this and it will unpublish message".
Between removing the Facebook account and Little Snitch, iPhoto is now separated from my Facebook and all the albums are still there!
    Thanks for the help!

  • Problems with exporting after Facebook export installation

    Hi there,
I installed the Facebook exporter app and then discovered my iPhoto is too old (it is iPhoto 4). Thereafter I was unable to export anything because my mac would crash. So I uninstalled the app and since then my normal export button is missing. I found a forum on this site, where the same problem was solved, but this was for someone with iLife 08 and required a reinstallation from disk.
The problem is, I bought OS X 10.5 recently but not iLife, so my iPhoto etc is from the old days. I would be totally, infinitely and unbelievably grateful if someone could help me out here, because I currently cannot export anything from iPhoto. Which disk do I use for reinstallation? When I bought my mac it had 10.3 on it. How do I reinstall iPhoto when my operating system is new? Help!
    Cheers,
    Kerry

Thanks for that - unfortunately I have lost disk number 1 and can only find disk number 2. Honestly, I never thought I'd need them, and they've been packed and unpacked at least 4 times since I bought the computer.
I am trying to get the disk from mac friends - I'll see what happens. If anyone knows how to get hold of these old disks, or another work-around, I'd be very grateful...
    cheers and thanks again,
    Kerry

  • Iphoto transitions exporting to Quicktime

Working in iphoto 08. "Fit slideshow to music" simply does not work, so I manually adjusted dissolves and display length to have the music and images end at roughly the same time. Exporting to Quicktime seems to ignore all of my transitions and the photos are done displaying with about a minute left in the music.
Exporting to idvd or imovie creates unacceptable reduced quality of the images. Is there a way to make the iphoto slideshow export exactly how it's playing in iphoto?

First are you using iPhoto 08 which is version 7 or iPhoto 09 which is version 8?
Exporting to Quicktime from iPhoto 08 (V7) will not get your transitions as a straight to QT export doesn't support them. With iPhoto 09 (V8) a slideshow export was added that would give you all of the features you had in the iPhoto slideshow.
So if you're at Version 7 you'll need to use a 3rd party slideshow application like PhotoPresenter or use iMovie to get your transitions.
PhotoPresenter has over 25 animated themes and interacts seamlessly with iPhoto. Some of those themes are demonstrated here: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes.

  • IPhoto 08 exporting albums

I have a Mac laptop running 10.5.2 with iPhoto 08 and FCE
(express)4.0. I have a plugin called Multifader by CM ImageFlow Fx and am making a 4 minute photomontage. My problem is that I don't know how to set the quality in iPhoto for exporting. For example I have a number of photos that are wallet sized 2.5 x 3. When I export my whole album and then reimport it in FCE with Multifader it seems as if the quality of the smaller photos is diminished. Is there anyway to get around this? I want to play this video eventually on a widescreen tv and/or through a projector on a regular sized projecter screen.

    mathlady42
There's no way to make a wallet size pic look acceptable on widescreen tv or on a large projector screen. There are only so many pixels in the pic and whole lot more on the screen.
In general, when working with FCE I've got best results using tif files rather than jpeg. Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue you can set the kind to tif, then complete the export to a folder on the desktop. Then import this folder of images into FCE.
