IPhoto fail to import some pictures

Hi,
Just came back from a long vacation with around 600 pictures (I have a Nikon D70). After importing all of them directly in to the iPhoto application, it gives me the following error message, for 126 specified photos: ”unreadable files - the following file could not be imported”
All the rest of the pictures have been imported sucessfully as usual.
I have tried to put the JPGs that can not be imported on my desktop and I can see them fine in the preview program. However, when trying to import them into the iPhoto application from the desktop, I get the same error message. The relevant pictures have not been added to the iPhoto library in the finder either, so that can not be the cause for the error message
Can anyone tell me how I would be able to get these ”lost” pictures into my iPhoto???

Hi,
I have just purchased a Nikon D70S myself and have tried importing my photo's into iPhoto. I get the same error as you - iPhoto fails to import some photo's and I get the same error message. Have you been able to reslove this or does anyone know the answer?

  • After Update to iPhoto 9.4.3 some pictures shown black

I'm working in a iMac with OSX 10.9.5. I've just updated my iPhoto with a newer version of iLife 11 to iPhoto 9.4.3 step by step as described here from Old Todd: running 10.9.5 OS X and iLife 11, now can't use iPhoto The capacity of the iPhoto library is around 180 GB with around 25.000 Objects. First everything seems to be fine. I could see all rolls, albums, calendar etc. But than i discovered, that in some cases, I could see the thumbnails but when I do a double click on it, I can only see a totally black frame. When I'm going to export that frame and look for the result, the original picture was exported correctly.
So, I tried to repair permissions and rebuild database. But this won't fix it. Than I tried to recreate thumbnails. After that, she the application is still open, everything seems to be fixed. But when I quit the application and open-up again, the same problem appears. Sometimes I can see the pictures for a second and they seemed to be squeezed somehow. What can I do? Any idea?
    Thanks for helping.
    Frank

I suggest that you read Terence's post in this thread and try the fixes he suggests

Re: After Update to iPhoto 9.4.3 some pictures shown blackin response to frank251 | This helped me
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • I imported some pictures from my cameras memory card to iPhoto and now i want to transfer them back to memory card

I just got my iMac and I just wanted to copy some pictures from my camera's memory card to my computer. turns out 'importing pictures' meant totaly removing the pictures from my memory card. How can I transfer the pictures back to my memory card?
    More info:
I used Dynex Compact Memory Card Reader and put my memory card in it to connect to the usb plug
    I have a Canon Camera
    I am using iPhoto

    Hi.
FYI and future reference, importing pictures does not have to mean removing them from the memory card or camera.
When you plug in a memory card and open iPhoto to import your pictures, there will be a dialog box that opens and asks if you'd like to "Keep" the imported photos on the card, or delete them.
Apparently you selected the option to delete them.
In any case, in order to move them back to the card, you *should* be able to plug the card into your Dynex reader, after which the card should mount and display on the desktop. Then, open iPhoto and simply drag the photos from there and into the memory card.
You may need to recreate the file and folder structure on the card so the camera can find the files when you wish to view them.
    I hope this is helpful.

  • Cannot import some pictures: reported as corrupted

I receive family pictures from my brother. He uses Photoshop. Some JPEG pictures are reported to be "corrupted" and won't import to iPhoto 08, most will. If I put them through my Photoshop Elements and make them PNG, twice the size, but then they will import.
Why can't iPhoto 'read' the pictures, yet Preview and Photoshop Elements 4 can? I'd sure like to use iPhoto, heck... it's kind of nifty. But at this rate, it's getting a bit annoying with having to rebuild the database thumbnails (black thumbnails) all of the time.
Primarily, the issue is not being able to import some JPEGs, however.

    ringhome
Just try opening the files in Preview and then saving them as jpeg - then try import. This issue can arise because PS sometimes adds metadata that iPhoto can' deal with.
The Black thumbnails can be caused by importing greyscale images - iPhoto supports RGB only. If that's not the issue and the problem is persistent then check your HD for minor errors using Disk Utility.

  • Iphoto won't import my pictures from CD or DVD

I've spent all day trying to import all my photos from my G5 iMac to the new MBP but so some reason it won't let me "import to Library". All the photos show up then I click FILE - IMPORT TO LIBRARY - iPhoto Library - import. It reads "unreadable Files" the following file could not be imported (the file is in iPhoto Library folder). I've been racking my brain all day and I can't face calling up Apple care for an hour of stress. I also tried loading some pictures through my Sony T1 camera and the USB don't seem to accept. This is all working perfect with my G5 iMac so is their a problem because its the latest version of OS X ?
    Help me please....
    Paul.

What format are the original images - jpg gif bmp ?
Try opening iPhoto and then drag the image files individually into the iPhoto window to Import ?
In iPhoto/Preferences/Advanced, have you checked "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to Library" ?
And, there seems to be a problem with that camera/OSX ...

  • IPhoto will not import some jpg files

I have been trying to import some photos into iPhoto. All the pictures that I have have been taken with a Canon 40D in a RAW format. The pictures were then imported into Adobe Lightroom where I made some modifications. Once all the necessary changes were made all the files were exported from Lightroom as jpg files. I am trying to import the jpg files into iPhoto and about 50 out of the 1250 pictures would not import as they were an unrecognizable format. I have checked to make sure all my software is up-to-date. I have tried importing those 50 pictures again with no success. As all the pictures have been created with the same exact process I am have no idea what is causing this issue. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I have searched for this issue in the support pages and not found anything. If a support article is around that already deals with this issue if you could point me in that direction I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you,

When you say this problem is solved, I am not sure what you mean. This morning I divided two files of scanned holiday snaps using Photoshop Elements 6, basically copying and cropping an A4 into 4 photographs. The first file imported into iPhoto without a problem, but none of the second file would either as a group or individually, coming up with the "unsupported file type". All were the same .jpeg files. I tried fixing the permissions, but this did nothing. I noticed that 3 of the 32 said they were Photoshop JPEG's in the version information and tried saving them using preview and overwriting the originals, but this didn't work. The ones that said they were mere JPEG's still wouldn't import on their own. I know Apple and Adobe aren't great friends at the moment but this is something they should seriously sort out before they upset their loyal customers.
I see now that I will have to turn all my JPEG's into tiff's to get them to work, that's an exiting prospect, almost PC. Thanks A & A

  • Iphoto will not import some jpeg files after many attempts to 'fix"

I have scande images into my iphoto until i updated to iphoto 9. now it does not import jpeg for some reason. some jpegs are more equal than other how ever some go in some do not. So what is wrong with iphoto 9 and do i need to reset some profile something somewhere.
mac book pro 17 standard edition no mods 2.6 intel core 2 duo 4 gigs memory 1067 mhz ddr3
files are saved to desk top folder as a jpeg in either color or black and white using the system Image Capture software.
    1) the error is -20
    2) i tried importing some old files in and out they seem to work
    3) shut down restarted and tried again no joy with the scanned images
    4) all images are openable by preview and can be changed to tiff
    5) iphoto allows tiff in but not the jpeg or any kind
    6) upgraded to iphoto 9 and this started is there a profile file i should through away and what is the implications of doing this ? i have many thousands of photos i do not want to lose.
i need to use jpeg format for my family and work.
    any suggestoins.
    7) rand disk permission repair from install disk no problems
    8) should i start in safte mode and do a PR reset.

1 - iPhoto does not accept grayscale images - they must be RGB even if the photo is B&W
2 - sometimes opening a photo in preview and doing a save as and then importing the new JPEG will resolve this type of problem

  • IPhoto not responding importing some photos

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro 13. This is my first mac. I was trying to import all my photo library to iPhoto (all the images folders in windows), but it's becoming impossible. Everytime I try to import my photos, iPhoto freezes in a particular photo and I can do nothing, I must force exit and restart the program. Then the program tries to re-import the photos but everytime happens the same. Besides, everytime it generates a new iphotolibraryrecovered folder.
My first thought was that importing a huge quantity of photos could be the problem, but it's not. Today I tried to import about 500 photos from a folder and everytime it freezes on the same photo. A solution could be deleting this photo or not importing it, but it's not a good solution, because in this folder this is the only photo with a problem, but when I try to import my 10000 photos, there are a lot of photos with this problem.
I'm using the last version of iPhoto.
Is there any solution to this problem? I'm I the only one who have this problem?
A lot of thanks and sorry for my poor english

Then the program tries to re-import the photos but everytime happens the same. Besides, everytime it generates a new iphotolibraryrecovered folder.
Quit iPhoto and go to your pictures folder (the default location) and right click (control Click) on the iPhoto library and select show package contents - find the folder named import (or importing) and drag it to the desktop - do not move or change anything else
Look in the import(ing) folder on the desktop and if there are any photos in it that still need to be imported do so and then trash the folder form the desktop
Everytime I try to import my photos, iPhoto freezes in a particular photo and I can do nothing, I must force exit and restart the program.
Is there anything special (or different) about this photo?

  • Iphoto unable to import some jpeg files... why???

Am trying to import some photos from a friend. They are jpeg format on a CD which was created at the photo developing lab when he got his films developed. Have tried importing them one at a time, all at once, by copying, by "adding", by dragging... I'm out of ideas. I keep getting a message that says the files are either "unrecognized file type" or "may not contain valid data." However, I can open them in Preview, in photo editing software, etc. Any ideas?

    Hi red-doc,
I am not sure why you can't import them. Why don't you open them all in Preview and then save them. Make sure the extension is added to the file name when saved. Next try importing them.

    1. Are you importing the pics to the NTFS drive? I don't think OS X plays well withthat format.

  • Iphoto 8.1.2 start with a wrong request to import some pictures that don't exist

    Hello
I've got a problem when start iphoto 8.1.2: the monitor displays a request about import but don't finds the pictures

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • IPhoto sync's only some pictures from iPhone

    Hi,
    I'm using iPhoto 9.6 and a iPhone 6 with 8.1.
I have about 600 pictures on my iPhone and 0 in my iPhoto library. When I connect the iPhone to the MAC, iPhoto only allows me to import 95 of the pictures.
How can I import all 600 pictures from the iPhone to iPhoto?

Have the missing photos been taken on the iPhone or have they been synced to the iPhone? If they have been synced to to iPhone using iTunes, you cannot download them using USB. Mail them to your Mac or share them to a Photo Stream. You can only download photos using a USB connection that are in the Camera Roll.

  • "Photoshop Library operation failed" while importing some .psd in AE CS4

    Hi
I am currently corking on animating a storyboard and received 58 .psd files from a drawing artist. All files are 886x472 with 5 layers of B&W drawings, representing just 360Mo.
I import them as "composition" since I need to interact with the photoshop layers. the problem is that AE imports the first 28th then stop and a window pops up with that message on it:
Photoshop Library operation failed (most likely out of memory)
First time it happens to me. Does anyone know about this?
    Here are my specs:
After Effects CS4 on a PC with, I think, the latest updates
    XP Pro 32bit SP3
    Intel Core2 Quad CPU - Q9450 @2.66Ghz
with 4Go RAM (well 3,25Go + I did the modification for 3Go in AE)
I have a cache folder on C: with 2000Mo allocated
Here is what I already did:
    - clean memory in AE (sorry for the translation, it is "purge" in French), but it did again
    - closed PS and Bridge, but it did again
    - open a new projetc and tried again, but it did it again
    - reboot the system... but it did it again

well some of the psd's have only 4 or 5 layers but it is true that some
have groups withing groups (not a ridiculous amount though).
I did start to unnest them file by file and found one that was corrupted or something
"a problem occured while accessing layers' data. Do you wish to read composite data instead?"
and when I click "yes", it says that it cannot occur since the doc is incompatible w/ my PS version (CS3).
Anyway, I'll let the artist rework that one file and it should be fine.
Thanks for your answer, I really appreciate your valuable input.
