IPhoto fails to open with Yosemite

Hello everyone,
Since my last update of iPhoto (V 9.6) on my MacBook Pro 17 "(2011) running Yosemite: it stops during the opening of the photo library [iPhoto (not responding) in "Force applications to leave dialog"]. My tests and observations:
-The Repair permissions utility changes nothing...
-Opening of  an "iPhoto library" newly created does not work more...
-My normal library (which does not open) opens fine on my other Mac : A Mac Pro 2014 running Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6 (same versions so).
-The regeneration of all iPhoto elements into libraries (general and user one) does not change anything either...
-iPhoto Library permissions are OK (R / W for everybody and current user)
Here is an excerpt of the console messages during the failure of loading:

Thanks in advance for your helps... :-)

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If the new library fails like the current one does do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • IPhoto does not open with new Mt Lion

Just installed Mt Lion and cannot open iPhoto.  Purchased iPhoto Library Manager and can add new photos and have my old library rebuilt but still cannot open iPhoto. This is the response I get when tried "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable". In iPhoto library manager iPhoto will not open with the option/command key pressed. Could not rebuild/open it in Time Machine. Suggestions?

    applesRnice
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto 9.6.1 with Yosemite Printing Issues

iPhoto 9.6.1 with Yosemite was supposed to fix a printing bug that would hang-up a Mac but it actually caused my to start having printing issues (beachball of death).  I have tried permission repair and rebuilding the database but that did not work.  I did the 9.6.1 update on 20 March 2015.  That is when all my printing issues started.  I have to resort to putting my pictures on the desktop and printing from the preview app.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Try fix the main library:
(In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. iPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened?  Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..

  • My iPhoto will not work with Yosemite, and it says that it was purchased under a different account, but that's not the case.  Any ideas why I cannot update iPhoto?

my iPhoto will not work with Yosemite, and it says that it was purchased under a different account, but that's not the case.  Any ideas why I cannot update iPhoto?

How did you buy iPhoto? Did it come preinstalled on your computer with Lion or later, or did it come with Snowleopard on system installer disks?
    Which version of iPhoto?
If you have a version of iPhoto '11 and it is showing on the Purchased tab of the App Store, with your Apple ID, then delete iPhoto from the Applications folder  (don't empty the Trash) and download iPhoto again from the Purchased tab.
If that does not work, contact The App Store Support  from the Quick Links on the AppStore main page.
Only apple Support can fix problems with apple ID.

  • IPhoto cannot open with Yosemite

    Hi guys!
I have updated my MacBook Pro on Yosemite and iPhoto cannot open. It asked for an update from Apple store, which I did. Now there are 2 icon apps of iPhoto, and none opens. I moved to trash the old one, but still the new did not respond at all.
    Any advice?

I had problems with iPhoto but after cleaning out my mac with 'Clean my Mac'
I'm not surprised.  As Larry has already pointed CYM and others like it do more damage than good and are considered malware around here.  Uninstall CYM according to the developer's directions:  How to Uninstall CleanMyMac Classic ... - MacPaw.
To verify that you've removed all of the files download and run Find Any File to search for any files with "the application's' name"  and the "developer's name" in the file name.  For example for CleanMyMac you'd do two searches:
    1 - Name contains "cleanmymac"
    2 - Name contains "macpaw"
Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.
When you're done run  Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and try iPhoto again.

  • Iphoto wouldn't open in yosemite! asking me for permission repair.

I'm running Yosemite on an Note Book Pro 17" , 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 and updated iphoto to 9.6.
When trying to open it, it tells me that the permissions for the library are not valid and that I have to repair permissions.
I repaired permissions with the Utility Programm and with iPhoto itself. (That possibility appears after the pop up that my permissions are not correct).
What can I do to see my 12'000 pics!!!!????

    Couple of things to try:
Restart your mac and try launch iPhoto again.
    If that fails:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a file called ‘iPhoto’Lock.data or similar. Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If not: Where is your iPhoto Library stored? If it's on an External Disk, what format is that?

  • Acrobat 9 fails to open with single click.

    facts:
Bridge created: the pdf that fails is PDF 9, PDF Producer: PDF Library 9.0, PDF version 1.6, 448 kb, [a single page thumbnail creation by Adobe bridge] opens with acrobat 9.0, application = empty
windows Access created: pdf that works with single click: size = 13.1 mbytes, PDF producer = distiller 9. [created inside windows office access 2000], pdf version = 1.5, application = acrobat pdf maker 9.0 for access.
    Now for the annoying parts
move both PDFs to their own folders. single click both, the one created by access opens. the one created by bridge doesn't, Buuutt it does stick an adobe pdf in the task manager showing adobe pdf IS open because of the mouse click, but it doesn't open the file, kill the adobe task. Also this one created by bridge, I insert the image into access, and access opens it just fine to my annoyance. I have to immediately close it in acrobat to do anything with the access page I've just imported the image into.
create shortcuts on the desktop, and they both open from the shortcuts with a single click.
Oh yeah the bridge one opens if I right click, and choose to open with acrobat 9 at the very top of the right click menu.
What's going on here ? And how do I get the bridge file to open with a single click and not making it a shortcut ?

I received the same error today. It's been working for weeks. At the moment I am working on Windows 8 Consumer Preview with Office 2013 installed on an x64 platform, however that hasn't bothered it since it was installed. However, today I received an Adobe Update, I don't even remember what products were being updated, the update screen popped up, downloaded, installed, the progress bar got to 100% and said 2 seconds remaining and then the module crashed. The cloud activation hasn't worked since. I first get a message that says "We are unable to activate CS6 Creative Cloud Membership Subscription Edition", below that it says, "Product Activation is required to use this product" and below that it says "You must have an active internet connection to activate this product. Please check your connection settings and choose try again." When you click on Try Again, it sends up a new message box that says "Activation Failure". Needless to say I have an active connection. Even though it always worked before, I added Adobe Application Manager to the Windows 8 firewall exceptions list, still no dice. I've rebooted the computer twice.
Update: Turned out this followed another defect identified earlier. It is peculiar to Acrobat X. If you open a different application in the suite, login if asked, then close the application, Acrobat will function again normally.

  • My 15" Macbook Pro running Yosemite keeps updating iMovie and iPhoto to one compatible with Yosemite the it updates again to the previous version that is not. Then it repeats itself.

My Macbook Pro keeps updating iPhoto and iMovie between the version compatible with Yosemite and the previous versions. It does it at least daily. Why doesn't the App store understand when those two programs have been updated?

  • Palm Desktop software - Fails to open with msg "Error: Failed to open Address Book database"

In July 2009 I dropped my trusty Visor on a tile floor and it stopped working.  So, in the meantime I have been using only the Palm Desktop software.
Just yesterday, when I attempted to launch the Palm Desktop software, it failed with the message “Error: Failed to open Address Book database”.  I think this error was caused by a very ungraceful shut-down of my Win XP system yesterday.
I really do need to use the Palm Desktop software for my address list, calendar, and memo.  The problem is that the error with the Address Book database seems to be preventing the Palm Desktop software from initializing.
I am using Palm Desktop 4.0.1 on Windows XP SP3.  I do NOT  have an export file of the Palm address book or other databases.  However, I do have five levels of backup history on my external Maxgor backup drive.
Specifically, on my current c drive I have files in the directory:
    C:\Program Files\Handspring\WR\address
address.bak                  5/16/2009   (from last sync before I broke Visor)
                address.dat                   5/24/2011
                Personal.ABA                11/6/2008
                Unfiled.ABA                   3/28/2008
On my most recent backup of my system, there are the following files:
address.bak                 5/16/2009   (from last sync before I broke Visor)
                            address.dat                  5/12/2011
                            Personal.ABA              11/6/2008
                            Unfiled.ABA                  3/28/2008
I have not listed the four older backup versions.
I haven’t tried any corrective measures yet (I don’t want to make matters worse) and am hoping that someone can guide me along the right path.
Is it possible for me to just rename the “current” address.dat file to something like address.SAV and then copy the Address.dat file file with date of 5/12/2011 into the current directory.  Will the software then just use the older version of the data, or must I do something else.
I am grateful for any assistance.  Thank you very much.

Thanks for the speedy response.  However, I read the article for which you provided the link, and I hve also read many other articles that I found via search, but I don't think these will help me.  All of these articles seem to assume that (1) you have a handheld to which you can sync and thereby rebuild the database on the PC, or (2) you have a backup that you created via the Palm Desktop export function.  Unfortunately, I have neither and so I don't think any of these solutions will work for me.
I did read with great interest an article that stated that recent versions of Palm Desktop have a built-in function that will repair a corrupted Datebook database.  Will this also fix a corrupted Address Book database which is my problem?
So, I downloaded and attempted to install the latest version of Palm Desktop.  I was careful to read the instructions that stated NOT to uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, but to just install the latest version on top of my current Palm Desktop.  However, when I attempted to do the installation, the installer software said it could not install on top of my current software and that I should first uninstall my current software.
    I have some questions now:
    (1) If I uninstall my current version of Palm Desktop, will this destroy my Address Book, Datebook, and Memo databases ( I don't care about the ToDo database)?  If so, what can I do to preserve those databases?
    (2) Is there really a function built in the recent versions of Palm Desktop that will fix a corrupted database?  Is this an "automatic" function that will detect and fix a broken database or is this something I will have to invoke?
    Thanks for your help.

  • IPhoto won't open with new mavericks on mac!

Hi! I just downloaded mavericks for my mac and now my iphoto won't open! Do I have to download a new version and will all my old pictures still be there? Thanks! I'm really freaking out about it!I

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1

  • IPhoto won't open with the new Mac update

I just installed the new update for my desktop mac.  iPhoto now wont open and there is a big circle with a line through it over the icon.  When I try to open this application it says "you can not open iphoto because it is not supported on this type of mac"  I have had my mac for over 2 years and use iPhoto everyday.  Any help?

iPhoto versions older than 9.5.1 are incompatible with Mavericks. Version 9 or later should be eligible for a free upgrade to the current version in the App Store. Versions older than 9 will need a paid upgrade.
