IPhoto file Corruption from HP Digi. Cam

Long story short, I finally convinced my parents to get a Mac. So i picked up a Mac Mini for them today, and when we got it set up i hooked up my mom's digital camera to it.
It's a HP Photosmart M415. The pictures are in jpg format. So here's the issue. We hook up the camera, hit Import. There's about 70 pics on there, and it gets down to 30 something left, and it stalls. The import just hangs. So i say, give it time it'll go. But it doesn't...it's stuck there.
I stop the import, and try again with iPhoto. Again it stalls on the same picture. So i fired up Image Capture, and made it copy all the pictures to a folder on the desktop.
Now, the import went through fine (as in, all the pics are there), however, about half of them are corrupt. I tried opening them in Preview, Photoshop, and Graphic Converter, and none can open them.
So where iPhoto stalled was the first of the corrupt images. Picking one at a time in image capture seems to yield a somewhat better success rate, but it's not good. Also, sometimes i can open and view the picture in Preview, but i cannot import it into iPhoto...
Why can't iPhoto import a picture that Preview can open?? That is simply beyond me.
The same procedures were repeated, with the same results, on a Titanium PowerBook running 10.4.7 and an Intel Mac Mini running 10.4.7.

k2schreck:
The fact that the HP R817 is not on the OS X compatible camera list, Mac OS X Digital Camera Support, may be the reason you're having problems. Check in the System Profiler to see if the camera is recognized there. If it's not then you'll be limited to using a card reader as Smtr mentioned. It's my preferred way of uploading from any camera. Prevents the possible shutdown of the camera during a large import due to low battery or the auto shutdown option. Also gives you more control of the upload process and, IMO, safer.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Photos in my from my iPhone have same numbering as photos from my dig camera.  They all go into iPhoto fine but when I backup to my ext hard drive it will only save one with the name IMG 1002 and I have two separate images both with that name.  Help?

Photos in my from my iPhone have the same numbering as photos from my digital camera.  They all go into iPhoto fine but when I backup to my ext hard drive it will only save one with the name IMG 1002 and I have two separate images both with that name.  How do I get them all to save on my ext hard drive and hope do I prevent this numbering overlap in the future?  I'm really hoping I don't have to go through and manually rename every single picture.  Thanks.

How are you backing up the photos?  The best way is to backup the library itself as that will preserve your organizational efforts as well as all metadata like keywords, titles, faces, places, books, etc.
You can use a backup application that does incremental backups.  Thus only the first backup is a full one and subsequent backups just copy those files that are new or changed. I use Synk Pro.  The lower cost version, Synk, will do the same job.  Other similar apps can be found at MacUpdate.com.
OR: upload your camera to a folder on the Desktop. There you can rename the files to something that is more informative than just the file name.  I use the date (international format) along with a brief desc: 2007-1-20-adian1stbday-001.jpg.  File renaming apps can also be found at MacUpdate.com.  Also you can give the folder an informatve name which will become the Event name when you import the folder of photos into iPhoto.

  • IPhoto 09 can't import RAW file (.CR2) from Canon G10 Camera

Every time I try to import a RAW image on my G10 camera (the file extension is .CR2) into iPhoto, the program says that the file is in an unrecognized format. Yet the OS and I believe iPhoto supports RAW from the Canon G10. I have updated my software. Does anyone know why I cannot import this file?

Since the G10 support came with the 10.5.7 update download and reapply 10.5.7 COMBO Update again followed by a repair of disk permissions. See if that will jump start the import.

  • Where are the iPhoto files separate from the program?

    Hi.
I am running iPhoto 8.1 in Leopard 10.5.6 on my early 2008 MacBook Pro 15".
I want to "backup" my iPhoto files. How I used to do this before Leopard, was to go into Pictures and find my iPhoto folder and there, I would find all the folders of my imports from my camera, numbered and in order by years, also. I would them just drag and drop each folder into Toast, and when it reached a DVD volume, I would burn a disc.
Now, in Leopard, I cannot find the iPhoto Files Folder. Every way I have tried to access it, I end up with iPhoto and when i click, it opens the program. SO what I have is the open program with the photos in the events.
How do I find and Where is the iPhoto Files Folder.
    Thank you.
    Waiting for your replies!

How I used to do this before Leopard, was to go into Pictures and find my iPhoto folder and there,
This has nothing to do with Leopard or the Operating System.
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder became a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Want to look inside? Select the iPhoto Library and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show package Contents'. A Finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
I would find all the folders of my imports from my camera, numbered and in order by years, also. I would them just drag and drop each folder into Toast, and when it reached a DVD volume, I would burn a disc.
Any time you access the iPhoto Library via the Finder or any other application you risk damaging the Library.
If you want to burn a back up using Toast then use the Media Browser built in to Toast or any of the following:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Failing to import files correctly from Handycam DVD camera

    Hi,
I try to import files directly from my Sony Handycam DVD camera to PRE8 by inserting the DVD in the PC.
There is only audio at the first part of every file. Approximately the first 20 - 30 % of the total video length. The sound does not appear neither in playback in W media player, Quick Time, W movie maker or PRE. Why am I missing the audio?
What is the best way to import for editing in PRE?
What is the best file type for editing in PRE?
What is the fastest way for converting, if needed?
My handycam camera provides wide screen option. But the wide screen in PRE8 seems to be "wider" than the camera...

Seems like this got the answers to most of my problems
That "More Like This" area can really work sometimes. Glad that you saw it, and that it helped.
If you have more issues, please let us know and good luck,

  • Sharpness APERTURE vs iPHOTO~file exported from Aperture worse than iPhoto

    HEY.
i'm recently using Aperture for my Photo Editing work.I found that everything Good and Perfect after fine tune and preview in the Window of Aperture...while Export it to the Jpeg (originaly image import from jpeg file) I found it's a bit loose from what i see in the Window Aperture...means,Loose the Sharpness...whole image getting un-sharp or s'ld i say added gausion blur of feel??
Once i import it(the one exported from Aperture) into iPhoto and Export it (even down size to 800 of diamention) it became Sharp and nice colour tone while compare with the one which Export from Aperture!!!!
    Why?
In the Export setting of Aperture i do set the Quality to max 12 and 300dpi even...
    Need your hand...thanks!!

WARNING! The sharpness problem is occurring in iPhoto modifications as well! I'm running Tiger and Leopard at the same time on 2 different computers - SAME EXACT SHARPNESS problems. The problem is NOT the OS - it's in the APPLE Photo Aps!

  • Firefox 13.01 file corrupt from firefox site

Hi, I am trying to update Firefox on my laptop as when I log on to the i-net I am getting messages saying that the mozilla system did not update.
I have tried 3 times this afternoon to download firefox 13.01 from the Moz FF site, but each time I have got the message that the file is corrupt. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml (this will clear the update history).
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Updates_reported_when_running_newest_version
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 13.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Why MAX5.0 not report right XML file settings from AVT GigE camera?

I have a AVT Prosilica GC660M GigE camera. It had a touble to synchonize with an external trigger. My ex-colleague posted this long time ago (http://forums.ni.com/t5/Machine-Vision/Problem-with-external-trigger-on-GigE-camera/m-p/1060572/high...), so I think it might be better to start a new one. Inside the MAX, there's only one option under the "ExposureMode" as "timed" which only use preconfigured time, and cannot be trigger by an external signal. The workaround is to manually register it inside the camera. It was thought to be a bug and an update of firmware should fix it.However the problem remains after I recently upgraded the firmware. And o I installed the AVT package. Both the MAX and the AVT GigEViewer correctly retrived the camera firmware version as 1.42.02. Yet MAX still shows only the "timed" option, while the GigEViewer shows all four enums as described in their attribute manual "Manual, Auto, AutoOnce, External". I had tried to delet the xml and files associate with the camera under IN-IMAQdx\Data. However everytime MAX genenrates them excatly the same with only "timed" option in the XML file. Now it feels more like something is wrong with the MAX instead. I wonder how to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Lei

    Hi Lei,
I am not exactly sure why you are not seeing all the attributes, but it could be a few different things causing it. First let’s just make sure you have all you attributes being displayed (follow instructions from link below). What happens if you delete the XML file then set your camera to “External” in the GigEViewer software, then load MAX? Do you see any changes? Can you post a screenshot showing the camera attributes from MAX. If you have your camera set to External from GigEViewer and you try to grab from the camera in MAX do you get a timeout error, does it trigger external, what happens?

  • Help with importing video from digi camera

Hey guys, we made a short movie on the spur of the moment so we just used my digital camera and when I plugged it into the computer it would only show up in iPhoto obviously. But I imported the movies into iPhoto and then I was hoping to import them from there into iMovie but when I do it only zooms in on the first frame and doesnt play the clip. Is there any way to be able to get a video off of the digi camera and be able to edit it on iMovie, Thanks.

Another thing you can do, is put the video clip on your desktop from your digi camera. And then in iMovie, do File > Import and then open your video clip from your desktop.

  • Apperture doesn't read the RAW files from my new Camera

Hi, Apperture doesn't read the RAW files downloaded from my new Camera Fujifilm X-S1. What options do I have to work with .RAF (Fujifilm RAW)?
I was thinking about using RAW Converter PRO but it cannot upload the full information contained into the RAF file. Maybe there is another Program I can use until Aperture includes my camera in its DB.
    Greats!

I've been a loyal Apple user for 20 years and have been using Aperture for the last 2 years. The X-pro came out a YEAR ago and still no x-trans sensor support and yet Lightroom by Adobe and Capture One now has RAW support.I've had to switch to the Lightroom trial as I have a busy studio in hope that Apple might bother with me but again no reply to my emails.
If I have to purchase Lightroom I will probably not come back to Aperture which is a shame
Apple seem to have got too big for good customer service these days unless it's an iPhone or iPad

  • Cannot open recent downloaded files from my Nikon camera. Elements 12

I just downloaded pictures from my camera and cannot open them in organizer.  It immediately goes to searching missing files in another hard drive from the one designated.  When I manually go to the actual area where I have the pictures and try to "find" them, I get a message that they are already there. While that is no suprise in and of itself, what is going on???  I have tried to restore catalogs and repair catalogs to no avail.  Win 7 64 bit system.  Other pictures  I have loaded are fine.

I found the solution in a Light Room forum.  The problem was I was using an older version of View NX2 to transfer the files. I uninstalled that version and installed the version supplied with the D3200. The files now load into Elements 11 with no problem. Apparently the old version affects the content of  the NEF files, as Elements was not able to recognize them, and gave an error message that the files were from an unsupported camera.
Thanks for looking into this, Don Rieser

  • Files recently downloaded from Canon Legeria FS306 do not play the audio. Can hear audio on camera or downloading same files to a PC. Also hear audio on earlier files downloaded from same camera to iMovie '11. How do I avoid problem & recover lost audio?

Files recently downloaded from Canon Legeria FS306 to iMovie '11 do not play the audio. I can still hear audio on the camera or by downloading the same files to a PC. Can also hear audio on earlier files downloaded from the same camera to iMovie '11. How do I avoid this problemand recover lthe ost audio?

The first thing to try is to run Software Update (the Update tab in the Mac App Store.). This was an issue a couple of releases ago, and an update seemed to fix it.
If you are already at the most recent version of iMovie, then I don't know how to solve you issue. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.

  • How do you process a RAW file ARW (from a Sony a7R camera) in Elements 11?

How do you process a RAW file (ARW) from Sony a7R camera in Elements 11? Elements 11 does not seem to accept a ARW file.

    Doug2014
For editing of the Sony a7R raw image in Photoshop Elements Camera Raw need the following ingredients
    a. The Camera Raw version must support the camera that you are using, that is, the Sony a7R. Support for that camera did not come until Camera Raw version 8.3.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    b. The version of Camera Raw must be supported by the version of Photoshop Elements. Camera Raw 8.3 is not supported until Photoshop Elements 12.
The choices would appear to be:
    a. Switch to Photoshop Elements 12
    or
    b. Use the DNG Converter to convert the Raw image to .dng
If all you have is Premiere Elements 11 which I do not think is the case, the Camera Raw plug-in allows you only to import the raw or dng image into the project for inclusion there - no Camera Raw dialog editing. But the same Camera Raw version - Camera Support - Premiere Elements version support still exists.
    Please review.
    Thanks.

  • Duplicate photos each time u connect dig camera

Hello, ... can anybody help me on this...?
If i download say 679 photos (in iphoto6) onto my mac , .... then i don't delete any photos from my dig camera (canon EOS 20D), .... but then i go outdoors and take more photos on my camera and then hook it up to my mac again, .... will it duplicate the photos onto my library and then in addition put on the new outdoor photos that i just took?.....
.....in other words, ... there are photos on my camera that i do not wish to delete but i wish to take more photos and then continue downloading onto my mac ....... will the mac simply continue on where i left off from the last photos that are on my camera?

where do i get 'image capture'...?
image capture comes with your mac and is in your applications folder
how about the app iphoto08, too?
Not legally - each software program is licensed for the computer it comes on only you need to purchase either an iLife '08 package ($79.00) for your older iMac or a family pack for it and up to four other computers in your household
And remember that iPhoto 6 and '08 use different, incompatible data base structures so you can not access the 6 data base form '08 or vica versa

  • File sizes from MPEG to QuickTime to iDVD ?

I have about 8 Gig of MPEG files downloaded from a video camera. I needed to install ClipStream and buy the MPEG-2 add on from the Apple Store to be able to open these files. I picked a long file, that was a 1.8Gig file ( 39 minutes long. I suspect the camera may be HD. It's not mine. ) and when I converted it to QT the file length grew to 6.55Gig. Obviously, that won't fit on a single layer DVD. When I use iDVD or iMovie and then iDVD to create the final file, does it convert this to anther file type , which is much smaller ? What file type does iDVD save as ? I have access to Final Cut Express, at work. Would that be a better program for this project ?

Earlier versions of iMovie and iDVD were built around DV Stream (.dv) as their native video format, and so anything needed to be converted to that before editing or encoding. At roughly 13 gigs per hour of .dv footage, your 39 min mpeg file was uncompressed to about the right size.
Different editors can handle different video formats either natively or with conversion to another video codec. You could check and see if FCE can handle mpeg files without uncompressing the whole file, but unless you have DVD Studio Pro or Roxio Toast, you'll need to uncompress the video file so that iDVD can handle it.
All standard DVDs have their video encoded in a particular format, and their encoded files arranged in a particular way so that a DVD player doesn't have to be too smart for your DVD to play properly. The DVD standard is video formatted as an mpeg-2 file.
If you don't need to do any editing, you may want to consider Roxio Toast, or other software that can handle an mpeg-2 file without uncompressing and recompressing.
