Iphoto file name / title problem

Trying to figure out why titles are not consistent. Some batches show the .JPG or .CRW extension in the title and some batches do not. What is the cause, and is there a way to force the extension to either display or not for all photos in the library.
Also, unrelated, I realized that at some point my file numbers got screwed up. Specifically, after the import that ended with MG0718, the next import started with file MG7054. Some 1000 photos later I noticed. I'd like to be able to renumber these. And if I can , I'd then like to get (trick) my camera into saving new photos, starting with maybe MG2000.
IPHOTO 6.0.6
Thanks for any help.

rtpeters:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First, you've posted in the iPhoto 08 forum and may not get the responses you'd would in the iPhoto 6 forum.
As far as numbering is concerned that's a camera issue an I don't know of any way to set a start point in any camera. FWIW here's how I handle file naming:
1 - I upload to a folder on the desktop.
2 - date and name the folder: 03/08/08-Temecula Rod Show. This will give me an event with the same title when imported.
3 - I use R-Name to batch rename the files with the date taken and a brief description: 2008-03-08-TemRodShow-01.jpg.
4 - import the folder.
That avoids problems down the line with duplicate file names during exporting. It also gives me excellent chronological sorting and searching.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can Desktop (Desktop/Screensaver in Sys Pref) display iPhoto file names?

I have my Desktop set up to display iPhoto pictures randomly, once a minute.  Since I have thousands of pictures, I would love to find a way to have Desktop annotate each picture with the iPhoto file name so I could find a picture I like easily?
    Thanks in advance.

    Brian
Yes that would be a pain if you had to do it. The good news is you don't. There a plenty of ways to get to the pics:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.

  • 2 Questions: Changing the file name /title, View albums in Outlook

    Hi,
I'm considering upgrading to iLife06 but before I do I want to know if it resolved my 2 biggest problems with iPhoto.
    1) Can you finally change the tite/file name of a picture in iPhoto and actually find that picture with the "new/changed" title using Finder or Outlook Express. Its really frustrating to only be able to see the descriptive title in iPhoto. It makes it unreasonably difficult to attach a picture to an email. You have to do it from iPhoto which means I have to switch out of Outlook and then to iPhoto.
    2) After you create all these albums in iPhoto can you see the albums in either Finder or Outlook Express. Once again attaching pics to an email is a pain if I have to remember that the exact date the picture was taken.
Please let me know if these issues are resolved or if there is an easy work around.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    1) No
    2) No
The easiest way to do it is open iPhoto and File>export the photos you want to use.

  • IPhoto file names changed

I have just noticed that in several of my events the underlying file name of several imported photos has been changed to my assigned Title.  Since I didn't think Apple provided a way in iPhoto for Mac to change the file name, and I am not digging into the file structure of iPhoto, I can't change the file name back to that assigned by the camera (and I don't necessarily know it anyway).  I see no obvious reason why specific file names were changed.  Is there some non-obvious way to change file names that I accidentally stumble upon?

iPhoto 9.4.3.  Not sure what you mean by history.  It has been in use for some time.  No other obvious problems.  The file name changes, at least that I have noticed, are from this year and, in particular, this past week.  One other observation is that I only happened to notice because I exported a group of photos and saw that a few of the exported names did not have the camera assigned names and then I looked back at iPhoto (hovering the cursor over the title - which gives the file name).  Again, the files were exported as a group and no obvious reason for something to change for one rather than another file.  It is possible the change took place when I exported the photos rather than earlier as I had no reason to check.

  • Dynamic file name creation problem

    Hi Friends,
I had a requirement where i had to generate file name at target side with the following format
" raw_text_yyyymmddhhmmss.txt" . This can be acheived by using "currentdate" function but there is no field at target side which holds this value, if there was a field then i would have used variable substitution method to generate the file name.Another option is Dynamic Configuration UDF already
my root node is mapped to some src field say FLD1 based on which i will be getting multiple files.
How to customise this udf to get current date as filename for multiple target files:
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File" , "FileName");
    String Outputfile = conf.put(key,a);
    return Outputfile;
    Regards,
    Vinod.

    Hi Nityanand,
Your solution is right but actually problem here is recently a slight change was made for file name it should be "raw_text_yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss.txt"  by using variable substitution we get file name as this format "raw_text_yyyymmddhhmmss.txt"  .
@Prateek: I cant give Currentdate as direct input to udf becoz we are generating files based on a certain field from source side.We are sorting this multiple source fields and generating target files.
    Any suggestions.....

    Vinod.

  • EOS utility file name preference problem

I have a EOS 7d and a Rebel  XSI for several years.
I have had EOS Utility set up to put
the DR_ prefix on files from the rebel and 7D_ prefix on that camera.
This was done in the preferences Fine Name tab.
Worked like a charm for several years.
Now it does not work, when I plug in the 7D after
having downloaded frm the Rebel, the 7D_ rather thad DR_ prefix
shows up in the name in the File Name tab.
This is true even though the top of the main page says
    E)S Utility - EOS 7D
That is, it recognized the camera to be the 7D
but shill has the Rebel preference values.
Am I doing something wrong, or has something changed?

    JimEngel,
On your desktop, right-click and select [Personalize].  Click on [Display], then look at what the size is set to.  Is it set to [Larger 150%] or [Smaller 100%]?  Please make sure it is set to [Smaller 100%].
Also, since the settings seem to be reversed, connect one camera and adjust the settings to where they need to be.  Then, confirm the settings, close EOS Utility and disconnect the camera in that order.  Do the same for the other camera.  Are the settings still reversed?
If this is a time sensitive-matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

  • Iphoto sort by title problem

I am having an issue with iphoto 09' sort by title. Hopefully my explanation make sense. The titles of the photos are Thanksgiving 1, Thanksgiving 2, Thanksgiving 3 and on in the same manner. What is strange is that it is sorting them in the following order: Thanksgiving 1, Thanksgiving 10, Thanksgiving 11, 12, ......19, then to Thanksgiving 2, Thanksgiving 20, 21, 22,.....29, Thanksgiving 30 etc. You would think it would sort them in the same way we count, but for some reason it isn't. Any ideas for how I can fix this sorting problem?
    Thanks!

    Use leading zeros: 001, 002, 003... 010, 011 etc.

  • File names of images in IPhoto

I have two questions. Does anyone know how to see the photo/file name of images loaded into IPhoto? Is there a setting that you can turn on to show the file name under each image?
Secondly. While trying to find answers to the above question I did discover the export originals option which would allow me to export images into a separate folder that does list the image numbers. This is a work around but not really what I'm after.
Doing this export I did get a folder of images with their respective file numbers attached. However, what is interesting and I'm hoping someone can answer is that many of the images that should have had my own personal image number, were actually labeled Slide 1, slide 2, etc, etc. When I originally imported these images they contained a number that looked like this 00478-22135. Does anyone know if the dash between the number may not be recognized by IPhoto which it then just labels a generic number it makes up on import? Or any other reason why it would not have accepted my original file name? I know it does accept some file names since several images with a different number format such as D223567 imported just fine and then exported with the correct original file names. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Jim:
Under the View menu select "Titles" to get the file names. I don't know what you did but I just tried an import of a file titled 00478-22135.jpg and it kept the file name OK.
When you exported the files what was the Album name and did you use the "Use Album Name" option in the export". If the Album was titled Slides then you would get new file names titled "Slide-1.jpg", etc. That may be the reason.
    Do you Twango?

  • Muvo N200 File Name Disp

When go to the next MP3 song in the player, the file name will display very quickly (< second) and then display the title statically. Is there a way to see the file name+title scrolling instead of jumping to the title only? The reason is that the file name usually contains more discripti've information than the song title.
Interestingly, if a MP3 song does not contain any title, the player will scroll the file name. This is actually the better method. Anyway to do this without going to a program to get rid of the title? Thanks.

That isn't a problem, it's by design. Some people use very simple filenames for their songs, but put the detailed information in the tag. You can change the title in most applications like MediaSource and Windows Media Player. Otherwise a tagging program might be able to remove all the tags on all your songs if that's what you want to do.

  • File Name Stamper

    Hello All,
    I am using: http://acrobatusers.com/assets/uploads/actions/File_Name_Stamper.pdf
It works great for one file. But for multiple files, a popup dialog box keeps showing up. Our small non-profit organization is processing 1000+ files and pressing the enter key is cumbersome.
The actual JavaScript code is below. Is there a way to disable the popup dialog box?

There are a number of simpler ways to do this. Thom's Action is great, but sounds like it might be overkill for this. Text can be added a numer of ways, including a form field, text annotation, layer (aka Watermark, as with Thom's script), and stamp. It can also then be flattened so it gets converted to regular page contents, preventing the user from interacting with it and perhaps changing it. Which you choose depends on you needs. If you provide a bit more description, I could suggest a simpler script you can use.
Also, please clarify exactly what you want included. Do you want just the file name (example.pdf), the file name without the extension (example), or the complete path (c:\dir1\dir2\example.pdf)?

  • Document search by file name using TREX

    Hello,
We have implemented searching of documents using TREX. At the moment TREX finds all documents where search term is included BOTH in the file name (title) AND the content of the document. We need to limit the search results only to the documents where the search term is a part of the file name/title and NOT the content.
I know that searching for the term in the title and content is a standard functionality. Is there any way to limit searching for documents only to the title? Are there any parameters that I could place in the KM Document iView in the property 'query' that will limit searching to the file name?
We use SAP NW 7.0 SP18.
    Best regards,
    Beata

    Hi Bobu,
I have followed the suggested solution with the predifined properties - "cm_displayname(/default)" - in a new Search option set and a new Search  Component set containing only two aliases: search_predefined_props and standard_search, but it seems that searching is using the standard_search alias anyway. If I remove it from the search component, I do not have a full-search field for entering the value.

  • Regarding file name in the target system

    Hi..
I have got a file name releated problem in XI.
I have configured a flow in XI system using proxy and after mapping process creates a output file in target machine as a "Test<Date-Time Satmp>.dat".
Test is the file name and adding date-time stamp to that.
    I am using file adapter.
Now my requiremnt is that instead of "<b>Test<Date-Time Satmp>.dat</b>", I need to create a file as
    <b>"<Date-Time Satmp>Test.dat</b>" .
Please let me know if anyone has come across similar situation. It is urgent.
I know there is an option to create dynamic file names in file adapter but i think it isn't enought to solve my problem.

    Hi jahangir laskar,
For the Receiver communication channel, (file adapter)
    Enter in the fields
    1. Under <b>File Access Parameters</b> section,
    <i>File Name Scheme : test.dat</i>
    2. Under <b>Processing Parameters</b>
    <i>File Construction Mode : Add Time Stamp</i>
This should work, i just tested it out.
    Srinu.

  • I just order 8 calendars from iPhoto and they came to me fine. Now I need to order two more but when I go thru the process I get a message  saying:unable to assemble calendar. There is a probleme with the photo with the file name"(Null)"   more........ .

Would someone be able to explain to me the following issue with Iphoto?
I ordered 8 same calendars for my soccer team and received them fine. Although a couple of pictures on it are a little off (out of focus). I need to order two more of the same calendars but when I go thru the process ireceive an error message saying:
"Unable to to assemble  calendar" There is a problem with the photo with the file name "(Null)" The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your calendar.
How can  I fine this "corrupt" photo? How did it go thru with the first batch of calendars but won't go thru now?
    Thank you for your help.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
