Iphoto for slideshows or iMovie

If I want to have songs fade in and transititions, would it better to do a slide show in iMovie?
Tracy

If you have a copy of iMovie HD 6 (from iLIfe 06) you can do a very good job of audio fade in/out, crop, etc.

  • Export iPhoto 08 slideshows to iMovie 08 in HD?

Is there any way to export a 16:9 iPhoto 08 slideshow to iMovie 08 in Hi-def? I only see a handful of standard definition export presets, and the ability to export to iDVD, but I'm wondering if there's some other way to dump the slideshow as a full 720p or 1080i clip that can be imported into an HD project.

No. Create the slideshow in iMovie.

  • Using Photoshop Elements to scan but iphoto for slideshow

I use an Epson V600 to scan old photos, which runs on a Photoshop Elements program. I am creating a slideshow for my grandmother's 90th birthday party, and I prefer to use iphoto for the slideshow. What is the best FORMAT for the photos as they are scanned, and how do I transfer to iphoto? Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Scan the photos and save them in a folder. When you're finished scanning import that folder into iPhoto. This will give you just one Event with the photos in it. If you import each photo after it is scanned you'll end up with a separate event for each photo which can be a bit of a pain.

  • Can I use theme music from iPhoto '09 slideshows in iMovie '09?

The Music and Sound Effects browser in iMovie'09 allows me to access sound effects files from iLife and iMovie, as well as music and podcasts from GarageBand and iTunes, but not any of the "Theme Music" available for use with iPhoto slideshows (such as "Linus and Lucy"). Is this possible? If so, how?

  • Itunes not available in iPhoto for slideshow since Yosemite update

I updated to Yosemite yesterday.  Today I can no longer find iTunes when trying to create a slideshow in iPhoto.  Mac suggests I open iTunes before continuing but iTunes is open.  I have searched and this prompted me to find library.xml file and drag to desktop but there is no library.xml file in my iTunes folder, there are others though.  I have switched them on and off in different orders and I have turned the mac off too.  I have a wedding slideshow coming up soon and had just about finished putting the music to the photos, this is very irritating and stressful.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

It is always a good idea to backup your data before upgrading, and especially before doing anything mission essential.  Did you backup your data before?
If not, piecemeal downgrading is possible, though not as easy without a backup:
    http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1948
It is probably best to wait to upgrade until you know that all your mission essential programs are Yosemite compatible.  You can try Yosemite on a separate partition if you so desired, and then only upgrade when you need to.
The xml file in question may also be in the Music folder in your Users -> yourname folder, or the hidden Users -> yourname -> Library folder. To enable hidden folders, download the utility Tinkertool:
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerToolSys4.html
P.S. Mac is the name of the computer, the operating system, but not the company.  You don't call HP, Pavilion, so why would you call Apple, Mac?
Yosemite has nothing to do with Classic.   The place to ask questions about Yosemite is here:

  • Costumize Themes for slideshow in iPhoto?

    Hello All,
I got my first MacBook Pro 13" 2 months ago. I worked a lot with it and I am happy.
Now I discovered the iPhoto-Slideshows. I want to creat a Slideshow (iPhoto newest Update) with the theme "Reflections)
When I drop now the Pictures in the slideshow, iPhoto atomatcly splits the Slides. Sometime on the slide is just one picture, sometimes there are 4.
and the pictures are not in org. size, they are zoomed.
Is anybody able to help me??
    Thanks in advance

It's not possible to customise the Slideshow templates.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express  $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.  However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. • BUG: iPhoto 9 Slideshow - Text Slide Bugs and iPhoto Library Corruption

I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issues:
I have had multiple issues with iPhoto crashing, stop responding, and database corruption where I cannot open iPhoto. These issues all began when I tried to use the new themed slideshow in iPhoto v9.1. Previously, I had only used iPhoto to create basic slideshows with iPhoto v7.x. I was hoping that I would be able to create my masterpiece in iPhoto 11 (v9.1) but I have only been frustrated by my attempts so far.
What should have been a 3 - 4 hour operation has become a 20 hour nightmare and I still don't have a slideshow to show for my efforts. This has been one of my most disappointing uses of Apple software ever.
Repeatable, reproducible bugs that I have run into include:
    1. Deleting a photo that appears in the timeline before a sub-title causes havoc with subsequent sub-titles (a.k.a. Text Slides). Subsequent subtitles are randomly copied to pictures following the one it was assigned to. Further, there is no subtitle icon in the timeline and the photos have to be manually modified to eliminate the subtitle. Work around is click the "Text Slide" button
    2. Zooming and/or image placement is not preserved and not visible when previewed, exported, or iPhoto is closed and then reopened.
    3. The iPhoto Library becomes corrupt and permissions problems prevent me from working with my photos. This happens while working on slideshow. I have had to rebuild my library and repair permissions no less than five times since I started working on my slideshow.

iPhoto's slideshow feature is fine but no tool for a "masterpiece".

  • IPhoto 9 Slideshow Quality

    Hi
I have a MacBook Pro 13,3" with iLife 11 and Nikon Picture Project .
and I have many photos that were improted from a Nikon Camera.
When I see the photo in the slideshow mode in iPhoto the Photo does not have a good quality .
If I see the same Photo with Picture Project the result is better,I can see details that iPhoto can not show.
I dont use the export functions .
Is there a solution for this problem ?
    Thanks

In iPhoto, when you play a slideshow it's showing you the actual photos.
After export , you're watching a movie made from these images. The process of exporting to a movie necessarily involves compression. Even HD export is still about 2 MP range. If you're shooting 6, 10, 12 or more MP images there is an inevitable loss of data. The enormous stills from your camera are being squeezed down into HDTV quality. It's even worse if you try export for a DVD. TV avoids this by not shooting such high quality images.
So, what you can try is use another app and one that has different algorithms for this process. Frankly, it'll be a process of trial and error to find the one that works best for your images.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold. It's worth a try, though it only has the same export options as iPhoto now. Older versions had more.

  • DV or 1080i for slideshow

I'm still a little confused about using the DV vs the 1080i format for slideshows in iMovie. If I have a standard definition tv, should I always choose DV? I guess I'm wondering because if I upgrade to a high def tv, then that same movie will look pretty bad on the tv, right? Do most people use 1080i format even though they only have a standard def tv?

Thank You for your answer.  Let me try.
    Thanks!

  • Music timing for a slideshow in imovie

I am new to imovie, and mac as far as that goes! I am trying to generate a stills slideshow in imovie and getting more frustrated by the moment. The timing of each frame should be adjustable by clicking on the little clock symbol in the bottom left of the frame. When I attempt to change it, nothing happens. I type in the change...it registers the change, but DOESN'T change for preview. AAAHHHHH!
    Anyone familiar with this problem?

Look at your project preferences. You can set a default timing. If there is a checkmark next to "Apply to all stills in Project", remove the checkmark. This will let you edit the time of each still individually.
If you upgrade to iMovie 09, you can set beat markers in the music and have your photos snap to the beat markers.

  • Best, export slideshow in iMovie, for online viewing

I tried exporting my 5min slideshow in iMovie using this setting:
    go to>share
    export using quicktime
    export as: mpeg4 settings>
    file format: mp4
    video format: h.264
    data rate: 1500 kbits/sec optimized: cd/dvd
    image size: 1280x720
    key frame: 12
    frame rate: 12
    video options>
    restrict profile to: main
    encoding mode: best
    ~
So far, this is good file size for online uploading, and good quality. Good enough. But there are still color issues, like some color blotching, and color transitioning, and the quality of the photos in the imovie when exported is not as good as when I view the slideshow in imovie. It's very important that the quality of the photos remain top quality as this for fine art photography promotion.
If you have any ideas how to export slideshows from imovie, in top quality, please reply. This is for online viewing, to be uploaded in free-hosted sites like youtube, facebook, multiply, etc. I am aware that youtube and facebook have HD options for video viewing. I need someone's help. Thanks.

Yes, I did. Not so good. The settings I mentioned above is actually the best I've tried so far.

  • How to show iMovies in iPhoto (for iTunes to access for AppleTv and mobile)

I have read a few posts on this but cannot find a definitive answer...
If you import movies into iPhoto, iMovies can access them. But if you import into iMovies, it seems iPhoto cannot access them, which means iTunes cannot access them to stream to AppleTV or sync with my iPhone and iPad, as iTunes does not see iMovies.
Because I have a DV Camcorder I have to import my home movies to iMovie which gives me this above problem in that I cannot see them in iPhoto/iTunes/AppleTv.
So am I right in thinking the best way to have all applications see my movies is to export them from iMovie into iPhoto as follows:-
    1) Rip to iMovies from the Camcorder
    2) Find the files in Finder
    3) Import into iPhoto
    4) Delete the originals from iMovie
Then I should be able to see the newly imported files in iPhoto in iMovie AND iTunes??
I cant find or think of an alternate solution.
    Thanks

I've decided to give the following a go...
Basically I originally wanted to use iPhoto for movies and photos so I have them all in one place and because I think Albums, Smartfolders etc. are great. Movies go hand in had with photos of the same event. But I also wanted them in iTunes to sync. with iPad, iPhone and play via Apple TV.
The file sizes from camcorder videos got me thinking I don't really want the massive files in iPhoto/iTunes/AppleTV etc. So have now decided to use iMovie as the library for the original large files, from which I can edit and make some compilations etc. then export those new movies of lower filesize (mp4?) into iPhoto for use with iTunes, Apple TV, iPhone and iPad.
I decided that when I finish importing I may look at putting the iMovie library with original DVs onto an external drive (due to filesize, if this is possible). So when I want to use iMovie to import and edit and make movies I will plug in the external hard drive where they all are, do my stuff, then can unplug and put away. That way I do not need to delete the originals due to filesize (I did not want to have to re-import from the camcorder again in future so do want them stored somewhere).
It also means I dont have every single video I shot in iPhoto, iTunes etc., not all of them are good.
Then my main computer with the iPhoto library has all my created and edited and new format movies to store for use with iTunes, Apple TV etc.
So I think this sounds like a good plan for me.
iMovie -> Original movie library manager (external drive due to filesize)
iPhoto -> Photos and edited movies library manager (Mac drive for AirPlay and mobile sync)
