Iphoto freezes upon boot up.

Lately, iPhoto has been freezing on boot up. I get the endless spinning beachball. Now what?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Extremely slow, constant freeze upon boot up and apps

I turned my pb12" on lately and it is very very slow, upon boot up now the scroll wheel of death is on and it will not boot to the desktop finder. So my question is this:
what the heck is going on??
    I reset the pram
would not boot in safe mode
    have 10gigs free
    1gig ram
nothing unusual document or app wise lately
just about a few weeks ago it started to become sluggish to non productive.
any ideas as to how I can remedy the situation.
    Much appreciated

Hi, Petoosh, and welcome to the discussions.
    a) there are more people here with similar problems as yours. I recommend that you search the forum in order to see how they solved their problem. Did you "repair permissions"?; did you check the HD and memory?
    b) MORE IMPORTANT: make sure that you have everything backed up. Just in case...
    c) can you boot from the install disk?
what happens if you take off all peripherals (printer, external disk, internet connection)?
hope this helps. Please post back in any case.

  • IPhoto Freezes upon opening

I am having an issue with opening my iPhoto. When I click on the icon, it will take me to the opening page of IPhoto, but if I try to do anything else on iPhoto (i.e. click on a gallery, a photo-book, etc...) it freezes and I have to "force quit" to get out of the program.
Are there any solutions for this?

  • IPhoto freezes upon photo deletion

I just updated iPhoto 09 when prompted this morning. The program now freezes when I attempt to move or delete photos. I have had to force quit several times. Some photos I can delete and others I cannot; it is then the program freezes. Any suggestions?

You may have to start over with a new library. Give this a try:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select the option to create a new library. Name it something other than iPhoto Library.
2 - Open your original iPhoto Library package like this.
3 - Drag the Originals folder from your original iPhoto Library into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same events as your old library. The old library will be untouched so you can try additional fixes if desired.
Now see if the new library can delete the photos successfully.

  • Freezing upon boot...plz help!!

This is my sons computer and he started it up just fine.  Began to type in the search engine and it froze up.  He then tried to restart it.  When he did that the toshiba screen comes on stating press F2 or F12 (don't remember what they say.  The screen then goes black with a blinking curser in top left corner and it beeps a few times very loudly.   The screen then goes to one of three different system screens but it won't let you enter on any of the choices it just freezes. Can not get to the log in options or any further.  I have tried taking the battery out with the power cord plugged in but then it will only stay on for about 10 seconds and shuts off.  I have held down the F8 key while starting it and it still freezes.  I tried putting in the windows disc and starting it but I can't get anywhere with that.  The laptop is only a year and half old.  I know that windows was last updated on 5/1/11 and stated up to date.  He runs AVG antivirus and that was done on 5/1/11 alos and came back no viruses.  He shut it down on 5/1/11 as normal and didn't get back on it until 5/4/11 when all this started.  I know that it just updated to IE9 a few weeks ago.  He has never had any issues until last night it worked great until then.  He is running Vista.  Any suggestions?

  • Osx Snow Leopard Freezing Upon Boot

After dropping my macbook I had a black screen with just a cursor that would move though could not perform any actions. After reseting pram and smc, i now get to the screen with the stars and what looks like the aurora borealis or whatever. The cursor is there though nothing is happening when trying to click and when i press any keys, i gent that *dunt* noise indicating i have tried an invalid action. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I m hoping i wont need a new hd or mobo. This is my first time on the apple forums. Help please.

If you can insert a DVD, find your original OS X DVDs that came with the system, and insert the one that says "AHT Verion x.x" in small print on the label. Boot holding the D key down, and if that doesn't work, boot holding the alt/option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. This should tell you what hardware is working or not.
If you can't run the Apple hardware test, can you do a safe boot, where you hold the shift key while rebooting?
Can you insert and boot to an OS X DVD by holding the C key down while booting?
Do you have a bootable backup available to you? Boot holding the alt/option key down, and choose the external bootable backup.
If all the above are negative, then take it into the Apple store.

  • Arch freezes on boot, no terminal

Hi, ive just installed arch with gnome as window manager. after installation i booted it up, installed some things like vlc, compiz... i also downloaded the ati driver from amd.com for my hd6850 and ran the script. it did not install properly, reported some errors.  whein i tried opening the ati manager it says something like: "driver is not properly installed".
i am using 2 screens which i consequently set up wit the display manager, both with different resolutions.
upon reboot, there was an error like "maximum number of X display failures reached". i uninstalled the ati driver from /usr/share/ati/uninstall.sh and redid the entire section starting from xorg from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … _Interface.
now the system boots gnome, but it immediately freezes upon boot.
    what can i do ?
    thanks

The wiki article on fstab briefly explains what's the deal with tmpfs, /var/lock and /var/run.
Instead of borrowing the fstab from one of your friends (where the UUID's or device names probably won't match anyway), you can create your own. And keep it simple.
    Here's mine:
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid,noexec 0 0
    UUID=978e3e81-8048-4ae1-8a06-aa727458e8ff / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
    UUID=f838b24e-3a66-4d02-86f4-a2e73e454336 /media/Storage ext4 defaults,noatime,noexec,nosuid 0 0
    UUID=14d50a6c-e083-42f2-b9c4-bc8bae38d274 /media/Backup ext4 defaults,noatime,noexec,nosuid 0 0
Once or twice a year I set "0  2" for Storage and Backup to run an fsck the next time I start the computer. Never had any fs corruption in 3 years of rock-solid, ext4 goodness.

  • I have a MacBook Pro, it recently started freezing upon startup. It would get to a blue screen and just sit there. I've tried booting in safemode to run disk repair and still doesnt help. If I do manage to get past the blue screen, it still freezes

My mac keeps freezing upon startup. It will get to the blue screen and promptly freeze. If I manage to get past the blue screen, and open up youtube on google chrome, it will freeze before it loads youtube. I've tried safeboot and disk repair, nothing seems to work. I even tried to factory reset it but it wont connect to my internet when I reboot with power + option.. any ideas?

This can be used to boot the machine and delelte enough files to get it to boot normally.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Read about storage drive so you can store your extra stuff.

Software Update: Java for OS X 2013-002 1.0
This update, upon booting, has caused my disk space to fill up and my system freezes up. The same happens to my coworker's computer. We both watch the remaining disk space decrease and the "spinning rainbow appears" and we must restart. What do we do?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

When making a photo book, my iPhoto freezes during uploading the book to the storey.  I have attempted this 4 times now and I don't know what to do! I know the file size is massive due quantity of large image files, but I don't want to reduce the image file size and compromise quality in the book. How can I get past this?

  • 2006 Macbook occasionally freezes upon wake up. OSX Lion

Macbook 2006 occasionally freezes upon waking up from sleep (lid-down). - screen displays desktop but keypad/trackpad don't work. I have to forcefully power down and then upon re-boot, it will work.
This problem has surfaced since I installed LION.... any ideas people?

    Geds,
Please start a new topic thread.  I can only help one person per thread.
Lion will install on any Core2Duo Mac with 2 GB of RAM.  But issues with freezing if they are present before installation of an operating system will be present after.   Operating system updates do not fix freezing issues.  They are either hardware issues, driver issues, or disk too full issues.  For that reason you need to start your own thread so the possible issues may be isolated.

iphoto freezes at assembly and upload.

Are you trying to purchase a book?  Is it an XL size book?  Boot into Safe Mode,  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try creating a pdf preview file of the book.  If that succeeds you can then order and upload the book while in the Safe Mode.

  • Zen Micro freezes when boot or in recovery m

In brief, my Zen Micro freezes at booting up or in recovery mode.
It stops at the "Creative" logo. I've tried to do everything in the "Recovery Mode" but none ofthem seems to run. Tried "Disk Cleanup" but it stucks at "Scanning Disk..." and stays on and does nothing. I know it is supposed to show you the status in percentage, but it doesn't get to that point. Tried "Formatting" but it displays "Formatting..." and stucks and does nothing. It is able to"Reboot" but upon rebooting, it freezes at the "Creative" logo screen again.
During the time it's turned on, the computer would not recognize the player as "connected", I couldn't do firmware flash/upgrade. The computer also won't recognize as a removable storage. The Zen Microis in perfect condition, I haven't dropped it once, bought it for less than 2 weeks. Current version of firmware is .0.03 (as i recall). model # DAP-MD0004
Any comment is greatly appreciated!! Thanks =)
    ps.
and yes, my battery drains when the player is off (and not in standby mode), with or without headphone plugged in.

    <SPAN>Hi kaic,
<SPAN><SPAN>My Zen Microphoto has exactly the same problem you described. What I like to know is if you got it replaced or if somehow you could fix it yourself. And if Creative replaced it, which they said the problem was?

  • Iphoto freezes when I try to open it.

Iphoto freezes when I try to open it.

Help us to help you: There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
