Iphoto freezes when "INFO" is clicked

Everything seems to work fine, except when I try to click INFO to add a description, and I get the spinning ball. It never recovers so I have to force quit.
any tips?
running Iphoto 11 version 9.1.3

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
If that does not help backup and depress the option and command keys and launch iPhoto - use the repair library option first- other rebuild options if needed

  • Iphoto freezes when I try to print a picture

Why does iPhoto freeze when I try to print a photo?  I have to force the program closed.

That was a test to determine if the original library was damaged and it was.  You did follow the next step but there's one more fix you can try on your damaged library:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Iphoto freezes when I try to open it.

Iphoto freezes when I try to open it.

Help us to help you: There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.

  • HT2638 Iphoto freezes when I try and delete a large amount of photos

Iphoto freezes when I try and delete a large amount of photos.  I have tried all of the first aid options.  Can I only delete small batches?  I am trying to organize and edit my 16K + library and deleting small batches is very time consuming.  And iphoto is running very slow...  Is there simply better software for a large library or tips to erase these photos?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto freezes when ordering photo

As of today - 29 May 2012, iPhoto freezes when ordering photo prints with the message..
'There was a problem communicating with the Apple Online Store. Please try again.'
I had to 'Force quit' iPhoto to continue.
OK, so maybe the store is down but surely that should not affect the software on both of my computers?
    Andy Forrest

It's OK now - I see the store is open again - but it does seem odd that lack of store makes te application freeze solid!

  • Visual Studio 2013 hangs/freezes when trying to click the designer view

my Visual Studio 2013 update 1 hangs/freezes when trying to click the designer view, after clicking "Design" I can not click "split" neather "Source". What can I do ? I already tried to set the "HTML (Web Forms) Editor
" as "Default"... thanks for support.
In VS2010 the same worked fine.
    I "Run as Administrator".
    ty for help

    Hi,
I assume that you are not using VS2013 Express version. In order to get the reason about the hang issue, please use devenv /log to gather activity.xm log and find HR error from this log.If it shows some package corrupt, try to repair your VS.
    Here are my general suggestions:
Please try to run devenv /ResetSettings (in command prompt) to eliminate the related potential settings problem.
Try disabling Add-ins (e.g. “Tools” | “Add-in Manager”) or run “devenv.exe /SafeMode”.This can eliminate the possibility that third party Add-ins or packages are causing problems. Also you can try these command lines:
    devenv.exe /resetskippkgs and devenv.exe /resetuserdata
Try to create a new user account. This can help isolate user profile corruption related causes.
If the suggestions above are no help, please reinstall your VS.

  • Iphoto freezes when trying to upload photos

    Hi everyone,
Being new to the mac world (VERY new... I just bought my computer on Friday), I am already having problems with uploading photos. I uploaded everything from my digital camera fine, but then when I tried to upload my Easter pictures, everything freezes and I am forced to quit the application. Apples help line of closing at 6pm pacific time is not helping my matter. Can any one help me??
    Thank you!

Your photos are safe inside the iPhoto Library package. You may be able to recover them by on of these ways:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

  • TS2551 Iphoto freezes when going in preferences

since one day my Iphoto 09 freezes when going in preferences. Can anyone help?

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then it's your current library that's the culprit.
If that's the case  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto freezes when iPhone/iPad connected

Following a full TimeCapusle system restore of MacBookAir, iPhoto freezes as soon as an iPhone/iPad is connected.
-iPhoto works fine when nothing connected
-devices never show in sidebar of iPhoto
-Image Capture works fine for devices
-Other USB devices have no effect
-Problem did not exist before TC restore
    Have tried:
    -reinstalling iPhoto
    -restoring device
-repairing system permissions in disk utility
    -deleting com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    -repairing/rebuilding iPhoto library
    -creating new test iPhoto library
I know iPhoto is on its way out, but I would like to fix this until Yosemite and Photos arrive....
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Try this fix discovered by User photosb189:
From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old), unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto.

  • IPhoto freezing when trying to import photos from iPhone

iPhoto has started freezing when trying to import photos from an iPhone. The device is recognised but just get "loading . . . " message with no photos appearing. Has anyone else seen this?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?

    Identical Probem
    identical answer
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • Iphoto freezes when iPad2 is connected

I currently have a macbook pro retina with Mountain Lion installed.
When ever I connect my Ipad, iPhoto freezes. It takes quite a while for the rainbow spin to disappear and the photos to show up.
When a memory stick or card is used to import pictures Iphoto can be very slow at times.
Is there a fix for this?
(Also, is iPhoto supposed to be a heavy app? It makes my macbook pro quite hot and the fans run quite fast so that I can hear them)
    Thank you for your help.

I had suspected the Library as the cause or a bunged up cache file, but that rules both of those out.
    Back up and reinstall.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Many applications freeze when using right-click

Since Apple changed my HDD and reinstall OSX 10.8, I have many applications (Office 2011, Skype, iMovie, etc.) which freeze when I try to use the right-click on the Magic Mouse. I even tried to use a regular mouse (USB) with the same result.
    Thank you,

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • IPhoto Freezes When Importing from Camera

Each time I've tried to import from my camera iphoto freezes during the import and I have to force quit it. I have tried copying the photos from the cameras folders to the computer and then importing from there but it also freezes. I did not have any problems importing using iphoto on 10.4 and I have now tried to import onto a friends computer (PC) and it works fine (so not my memory card or camera gone wrong).
Any suggestions on how to import successfully????????

    Nyssa
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
