Iphoto freezes when trying to upload pics

When I am working from an internet site and trying to upload pics ie; Facebook or my website, iphoto will freeze and I have to force quit safari and all my work is lost.
I have updated my software, and that doesn't seem to have helped.
When I am just in iphoto directly it works fine.
What do I do?

It doesn't sound like you are actually in iPhoto. The way you can tell is, when you are doing whatever it is you do and the computer "freezes", look in the upper left corner right next to the Apple. What does it say?
It sounds like Safari is the program having issues.
Try going to the Safari Menu > Reset Safari. Uncheck the options for Remove other auto... and Remove Saved Names...
See if that helps.

  • Iphoto freezes when trying to upload photos

    Hi everyone,
Being new to the mac world (VERY new... I just bought my computer on Friday), I am already having problems with uploading photos. I uploaded everything from my digital camera fine, but then when I tried to upload my Easter pictures, everything freezes and I am forced to quit the application. Apples help line of closing at 6pm pacific time is not helping my matter. Can any one help me??
    Thank you!

Your photos are safe inside the iPhoto Library package. You may be able to recover them by on of these ways:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

  • Since upgrade no photos appear in iphoto list when trying to upload a pic to facebook. I can "share" on my own wall but not post a pic to a friend's wall.

No photos appear in the iphoto list when trying to upload a pic to facebook. I can "share" a photo on my own wall or add one to an album through iphoto directly. I cannot figure out how to post a pic to a friends wall.

Exactly how are you trying to do this and waht is the problem
The iPhoto facebook upload can only post to your account
If you are uploading using a browser your photos are accessed through the media browser in the lower left ahnd corner of the puload window under media ==> photos ==> iPhoto
Please describe what you are doing, what problem you are having and what version of iPhoto and of the OS you are using

  • IPhoto freezing when trying to import photos from iPhone

iPhoto has started freezing when trying to import photos from an iPhone. The device is recognised but just get "loading . . . " message with no photos appearing. Has anyone else seen this?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Firefox freezes when trying to upload or download a file. (Antivirus all disabled doesn't help). IE works fine. Happened with v3 and v4. Any clues?

Firefox locks when trying to upload or download any file, size irrelevant.
I've disabled firewall and all antivirus apps to no effect.
This happens with v3 and v4.
    IE works fine.

'''Addendum:''' The freeze is also happening at random even without opening Firefox, it has a chance of happening when I click something. My computer has frozen when I: 1- clicked the "reveal desktop" button to minimize all windows; 2- Attempted to close a tab in Chrome; 3- Clicked "play" in a Youtube video that had been loaded and waiting for some time). It will also almost always freeze when I leave it idle for more than about 10 minutes.
But it will '''guaranteedly''' freeze when trying to open FF, which doesn't happen with any other program.
I think my computer is breaking down. :(

  • IPhoto freezes when attempting to upload from iPhone 4

I'm attempting to back up my photos from my iPhone 4 to iPhoto on my MacBook (1,700 items). All is well until it reaches 194 photos left and then iPhoto freezes. I then have to force quit. I've tried four times but it always freezes at the same point. Any ideas what may be happening? Thanks

A damaged file at that point is a likely cause.
Can you access the images using Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?

  • My iphoto freezes when trying to use the standard eBay photo upload, the problem started after a recent iOS 7 update. The album photos don't appear until I try and close the upload and immediately freezes. Attempts to close iphoto fail.

A week or so ago I reacted to an Apple update message. The update completed and this left me with a couple of problems. When the imac started up there was a Glims message on screen telling me that the computer had not closed entirely and asking if I wanted to allow glims to reopen previously open files. I ticked yes and Safari froze immediately. This would happen even after a restart, Safari would start up with the Glims message on my Yahoo mail account. Then whether I clicked on the Glims message or not one of various adverts would appear and Safari would immediately freeze. I managed to override this by quickly entering Safari extensions and subscribing to an advertisement blocking programme. Safari now worked without problems but the blocking programme created other problems mostly with iphoto. The eBay uploaded photos were minute. So I decided to remove the Safari blocking extension and all seemed fine for everything except iphoto which now freezes every time I try to upload eBay photo's using the eBay standard upload problem. Yesterday I changed to the other BASIC upload option and that did work. Thought it might be a one of glitch on the Standard but obviously not. Anyone's help would be appreciated. I note that at least one other member is experiencing the same or similar problem today.

Sorry I am 70 and not very computer literate. Please explain in simpler terms. Perhaps I should have said Apple update for my iMac. It did however include an iphoto update. My imac is 3 years old, I also have an ipad 2 and iPhone and both received iOS 7 updates around the same time.

  • Cant find iPhoto albums when trying to upload picture on browser!!

Whenever i try to attach a picture online i go to >Pictures>Iphoto Library
but my when i click on iphoto library it doesnt open up to any of my folders/albums..
it just closes and doesnt give me the next option and i tried looking on finder for the albums but i could find them :/

    The firs one of these...
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • IPhoto freezes when trying to print small size photos

I'm trying to print the smallest sized photo. Everytime I ask it to print it freezes and I have to force quit. If I print a bigger sized photo, such as 4X6, it works fine. Earlier in the day I was able to print the small photos. I've trashed the plist and restarted but it's still doing it.

The settings that I show in the screen shot give you, as owner, complete access to that folder and all files inside. I also set my admin name as the group because I'm the only user on the computer and set others are read only. As long as you have read and write access you good to go. Then the bottom check boxes apply those permissions and will unlock any file that may have inadvertently been locked.
You can set the permissions a different way as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.

  • Iphoto freezes when trying to open a particular slideshow

When using Iphoto the program freezes to a spinning beach ball when selecting or trying to open a particular slideshow, other slideshows work OK. How do I delete the slideshow?

back up and rebuild your iPhoto library - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and use the first three options
Just tried rebuilding the thumbnails like you suggested and still no luck.
If you used the first three options you rebuilt the entire library - not just the thumbnails - did you select all three or did you select only rebuild thumbnails?
You need to rebuild the library - not just the thumbnails

  • Firefox will not load . it just freezes when trying to upload the homepage

Its ask do you want to set Firefox as a default browser and I choose when. Its freezes then and when I try to close it asks me to do I want to send an error report. I have been using for at least a couple of years. Internet Explorer works for me.

    Hello.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Error when trying to upload pics to FB!

    Hi,
I have been trying for month's to get pics onto my new FB account from iPhoto, it keeps returning an error and is starting to get really annoying. Any tips or help would be great.

Here is the workflow you should be using, if you are not already:
    1. If you do not have the website on your local computer, you need to transfer it there.  Create a folder on your computer where your website will reside.
    2. In EW, do Site / Open site, put in the address of the live site, and open it
    3. Publish the entire site to your local computer
    4. Close the live site, and open the local site
From this point on, whenever you need to change a file, open your local site, work on the file, test it locally, then publish the changed file back to the live site.

  • Iphoto freezes when trying to make an album or card. what to do?

I've previously worked with iphoto maing calendars or cards. After a thorough back up of my macbook pro, iphoto has showed repeatedly fails in launching the card, calender or album functions, while working adequate in sharing for example in facebook. Any tips to solve this problem?

Just to be sure we're on the same page you're saying tha iPhoto will work OK until you try to open an card or book project, right?
Try this: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
