IPhoto Full page Images

Hi, I want to merge photos in photoshop and then import into a iPhoto Book as a full page image but every time I do this it crops the picture.
Does anyone know the dimensions I should be using so that the image I create will fit the book's full page without cropping?
Thanks

For a full page photo the image should be cropped to the same size ratio as the page, i.e. 8.5:11 or 1:1.3.  When the photo is added to the full page layout it should fit into the frame without any cropping.  Most other frames are in the 4:3 size ratio which is about the same: 1:1.33.
Or you can Command (right) - click on the image on the page and select Fit Photo to Frame from the contextual menu. This will shrink the photo until it if fully presented in the frame without cropping but will not be edge to edge.
The following is an image from an iPhone with the size ration 1.338 in a full page layout:
This is after fitting the photo to the frame:
If the page background is set to black the two areas at the top and bottom won't be that obvious.  It all depends on what's in the photo, however.

Using FM9...  What is the best way to accomplish the following task?
Insert an image into a document on a page where I want only the image and a two line "caption/photo credit" to appear.  Yet I want the text on the preceding page to flow to the page following the image page.  In other words...
    Page 1: Paragraphs 1-4
    Page 2: Paragraphs 4-7
Page 3: Image with 2 line text caption
    Page 4: Paragraphs 7-10
    Thanks.

    Pete,
It seems to me you want to add a new, disconnected page.

Possibly you have to connect the textframes on page 2 and 4 manually, I am not sure (because I have never dealt with that type of layout).

  • Importing full-page images into iBooks Author (without image degradation)

Hi ,, I have had little success importing images created with paint programs such as Corel Sketchpad, Photoshop, Corel Painter, etc. Everything seems to work just fine, but there are pixelated artifacts in the final image that shows on the iPad. I create the orginal images at 1024 x 768 ... and save them as high-qulaity jpgs and pngs .... but still poor qualiting especially where large blocks of solid colors are adjacent to one another.
When I use a vector program such as Flash or Illustrator and export those images as jpgs ... they look perfect on my iPad. I don't want to use a vector program however ... I want to use paint programs.
Anyway have success with paint program images? If so, what is your step-by-step process? Hopefully Apple will fix this bug so that paint program's exported jpgs don't have pixelated artifacts at edge areas. There is also a very noticeable color shift in the imported image .. much ligher and less saturated colors.
In the image below you can see the imported image showing artifacts and the orignal image is not showing artifacts.
    Thanks, Frank

An iPad 2 screen is 132 - new ipad is 264.
In cases where you're seeing noticable degradation I wouldn't work with less than 132.
Start high and reduce....don't try to make low do something it can't by simply adjusting the resolution up.
I tend to avoid those 'paint programs' And remember, this isn't just about iBooks Author....iOS does the heavy lifting, but sure, it can only do as good as iBA spits out. I think they're working to trim the sails on compression etc. and it will only get better over time.
The @2x scheme is working well for iOS - I have some stunning graphics for the new iPad in my latest app.
    Good luck.

  • IPhoto book page layout

I used a 3 photo page layout with a caption but only want one photo to print. I placed the photo and left the other spaces blank. Will the page print white where I didn't place the photos, or with gray boxes as shown on the layout? I don't a full page photo as shown with the 1 photo layout, so I'm using this as a workaround.

You must have photos placed in all positions to order a book - you can to a page in other software (pages, MS word, Pagemaker, etc) and do a print to PDF using the send PDF to iPhoto option to make a full page image exactly like you want for your book - see Old Toad's tutorial #19 for details - http://web.me.com/toad.hall/NewTutorials/main19.html
And always preview your book - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - before ordering and save the resulting PDF.
For examples of all of the pay layouts for each theme see Liz Castro's site - http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HomePage

  • EPub support for full-bleed images

    Hi,
I'm creating an ePub version of a Pages document, and I want to include the full-page image for the cover. Pages tells me that it can't support floating images, but in-line images need to respect the margins set for the rest of the document. I want the cover to extend at least to the margins, but it appears that Pages won't support that.
Has anyone got any work-arounds that will support a full image cover for an ePub export version of a Pages document?

Have you had a look at the supplied ePub template in Pages? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4168. You can download the template from this page
The template has a placeholder with an image spanning over the width of the page. It is using Layout breaks and Layout margins which are set in the Inspector palette > Layout tab > Layout

  • What image size for full page photo?

What image size is required to be able to create a single full page photo in an iPhoto book?
I shoot in RAW and use Lightroom for most of my photography. However, for family pictures, I'd like to create an iPhoto book. I exported from Lightroom as 100% quality jPEGs / at 320 dpi / small side 2000 pixels -- but I still get a triangle warning that this is not big enough for a single photo page. What dimensions/resolution is required to put one photo on a page?
By the way, would you recommend jPEG? I tried TIFF and while those file sizes much larger, I still get warning triangle?
Finally, when I re-import to the new size that someone hopefully will recommend, how do I delete my old (too small) images in iPhoto?

    AEPC
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
In iPhoto '08 & '09 the warning comes on if a photo is below 180 dpi - so for 8.5 x 11 you need a minimum photo size of 1530 x 1980 pixels - and remember is you zoom or crop the photo in the book the area you actually printing must be that - not the original sized photo
The format of the photo (TIFF or JPEG) makes no difference in the warning symbol only the pixel size

  • How to create a full page background image that is fluid?

I'm creating a website for my portfolio, and one of the things I wanted to have is a full page background image that the div tags are in.  I know there is a way to put it in via page properties, but that doesn't allow you to add CSS styles and I want the image to re-size with window changes.  This requires putting the image in a div tag, but then it pushes the other div tags (such as my header section and navigation) so that they aren't over the image like I want.  Is there a way to push the image div tag to the back so that the other div tags go over it.
I'm using HTML5, and it will also be a responsive design, but the fluid background is only for desktops.
I don't go on the adobe website often, so if you have an answer to this, or need more information to figure it out please email me at [email protected] and you'll get a faster reply than on this forum.
Thank you everyone for your help.

You should set this forum to email you on a reply.
I don't have a link in your question to determine how you are trying to do this, but here's a technique I have used:
Take a look at this website and see if it doesn't have what you are trying to do. You'll see the flag in the background and I have used opacity in the layers on top of it to keep the flag somewhat visible.
Now, what the flag does not do is re-size itself with the viewport (the browser window). But the flag is in a div that sits on top of the body. My code is accessible, but you're looking for the flag div and it's defined in CSS thusly:
    #flag {
              width: 100%;
              background-image: url("../images/polish-flag.png");
              background-repeat: no-repeat;
              min-height: 900px;
Now, CSS3 adds a new attribute you can apply to the background image thusly:
         background-size: 100% 100%;
That would make your background fill the viewport.
I chose to not do that, because I was worried about versions of Internet Exploder before 10.

    Hi, Tom.
FYI: You've not stated which of your listed Macs is having the problem. However, the following may help in any case:
    1. Did you install Front Row using the Front Row hack on a Mac that did not ship from the factory with Front Row installed? If so, See my "Uninstalling the Front Row hack" FAQ. This has been known to cause a variety of problems, including the menu bar (Clock, Spotlight) issues you noted.
    2. If you did not install the Front Row Hack, an incompatible or corrupted Startup or Login Item may be partly to blame for the problems with the menu bar. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    3. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.

What are the best dimensions to allow for iPad 3 Retina for full-page landscape images?
I read an article and cannot find it that said something about trying to make it 2million pixels and JPG to keep it small, but what exactly should the dimensions be that I ultimately import?  Is there some kind of a "density" setting I have to use, as well, when exporting from Photoshop, for example?

See Optimizing performance in your iBooks Author books
Density is discussed by Apple in this context as 'dpi'...

  • How to create ePUB with full size images/pages to adjust according to device?

    Friendly Greetings,
I have been trying, for nigh on two months, to convert/create my 7 books that are in print into eBooks; with first publishing scheduled to be Nook, with Kindle on the eventually list. I am, sadly still working on just getting the first one published! And I could really use any assistance to get this figured out. My intent was to publish several weeks ago...now my desperation is to publish before the weather gets too warm and kids are outside most of the time...or at least no later than Easter. :0)
First and foremost, my books are picture/poetry books for kids of all ages. They were fully designed in Photoshop, where I also created the full size images for the first eBook. I received the specifications from B&N for the various Nook devices. Under the assumption that it would be best to create the largest of the files, thus allowing smaller sized devices to adjust the page accordingly to fit and the largest would not overstretch a smaller image, I sized my pages to 1280px x 1920px at 72dpi. (now I hear 150 is standard??)
My text is included within the image as the design is one image = one page. I included a full text only version of the story/poem at the end for those wishing to adjust text or use a voice reader. I obviously have all the original files, but for publishing they were all saved as JPGs.
After quite a struggle and a whole lot of frustration I managed to complete the manuscript in Barnes and Noble's Nook Press Manuscript Editor. My internet is molasses and thus much of this was done in the wee hours of the morning when the rest of the time zone is asleep. I only had one page with an issue, of an extra blank line/space that was irreparable. I published, and found it was completely botched in publish, though the preview looked a-okay. Only about the top left 1/6 of each image/page was visible in either my laptop's Nook for PC or my Android Tablet's Nook App. So I agonizingly awaited another 10 hours, hoping no one would buy my book during that time, for it to be removed from sale.
I downloaded a trial of InDesign CC, and after two weeks of not even being able to create a single new document for some screwy reason, I bought a month's subscription. So far I'm not entirely convinced of this whole Creative Cloud malarkey, especially considering...as like I said my internet is slow...it took me nearly 20 hours just download the software. (Is it really that difficult to offer disc, seriously?) After a chat and phone call I can, in theory, now use InDesign.
I created a New Document for Digital Publishing at the aforementioned specs (1280 x 1920 px). I made the rectangle placeholders the full size of the page, and place one image per page. This usually inserted the image at about 50% and I would have to select 100% and then move as necessary in to place.
Thus, my first question is: Is there a way to place an image at 100% without having to do that extra resizing step? Or if there is an alternative way to place the image to the full size of the page without any of those other steps that would be lovely too.
Okay, after placing several pages/images I also selected each and went to Object Export Options and Checking the Custom Rasterization and "Resize to Text Flow".  I then exported a trial ePUB to see what it would look like. On both the PC and Tablet in landscape mode it was a far cry better than the other, but about oh a 1/3 of the bottom of each page was cut off. On the tablet I rotated to portrait and voila full page. Woohoo! But alas, I don't want to limit it.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Did I miss a step or two somewhere so that the full image will fit on the page? I feel like I'm just about to turn the page on this thing, but it's stuck to the one after that.
I would greatly appreciate any insight, tips, help that anyone can offer. I have run the gauntlet of Barnes and Noble...cough, cough...support and apparently I ask questions which no Nook Press rep can answer and the forums over there have no clue about InDesign. It's almost as if with all the fantastic beautiful screens out there today nobody wants picture books! How does National Geographic do it?!
            Thank you very kindly.
In case it is necessary: My laptop uses Window 7 Pro 64-bit, InDesign CC is 64-bit and my 10.1 tablet uses Android. I can view the EPUB files in Nook for PC and Nook for Android. I also have Kindle, LumiRead, and various other apps on the tablet. I can also have someone preview the finished epub, if need, on a Mac, iPad, and/or Android phone...though I do not have any of these. Not sure who has a Nook I can look at though. Thanks again.

Q: Is there a way to place an image at 100% without having to do that extra resizing step?
I think here you want your images to fit in the full page size frame automatically. For this you can try the follwoing steps:
    1. Create a new doc
    2. Goto Object menu and choose Frame fitting options
    3. Select Autofit and from Fitting drowdown, select "Fit content to frame". Refer the screenshot below:
After this you images should automatically fit in the entire page placeholder frames. Please let me know if this does not work or if the problem you are facing is different and I did not understand your problem correctly.

  • IPhoto Not Displaying images in full-size, only thumbnails

I have iPhoto 11.9.4.2 installed in iMac 27" running Mac OS 10.7.5.
Up until last night iPhoto has been great. Last night I added about 100 images to my library which is a pretty typical update for me. The pics all transferred fine. All my exisiting and new images are visible in thumbnail mode, however when I 'click' on any one of my new or existing images so that I can view only that image in iPhoto, the image flashes up for 1 second then disappears. If I use my mouse or arrow keys I can go to the next image which again flashes up temporarily then disappears.
When I adjst the 'zoom' on the lower left portion of the iPhoto window, I can see a very small version of the image I would like to see with a box/rectangle over the area that I assume would be visibile if I zoomed in what would normally be a full-sized image.
    Any ideas?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • HELP! Full size image is creating a new blank page that I cannot delete.

    Hello,
I am creating a document where each page has a full size (8.5x11) image that is set to the background. I then have text over the background image. My problem is that when I make the background image and insert another page, I get a blank page that I cannot get rid of. I have made sure that the full size image is not going over the border but it is still creating an invisable character that is a blue line with an icon at the end.
How can I get rid of this line??
To insert the large inage, I am creating a square shape and extending it to the edge of the document. I am then filling that shape with an image.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thank you in advance!
    V

Nevermind! I found the answer!! I had to un-check Object To Wrap in the Inspector.

  • Full screen images on page?

I would like to have full screen images on a page that fits to most browsers. I don't know what would be the best width in order to acomplish that.

Hi. I am also trying to have my images appear full screen when previewing in a browser. I realize you can do this by adding an image to the
background of your Muse Document. However, this is NOT what I want to do. Here is a link to website where the images appear full screen,
no matter how you size the browser window. http://www.lexusls.asia/ I too would like my images to appear full screen when appearing in
a browser. I have also included an image of what I am getting when I try this. See how the city image floats in the middle? I want it to fill the
entire screen when viewing in a browser.
Thanks to all who may reply.

  • Double clicking iPhoto thumbnail doesn't load full resolution image.

After mistaking the new Photo application for iPhoto, I couldn't find the original 206 G iPhoto volume of my pix.  Finally found it but couldn't get the thumbnail images in the application to load the full resolution images after I double clicked them.  Please help.  It's got me scared.  I tried to rebuild after rebooting with Command and Option held down, but no fix in sight.  The thumbnails still refuse to link to the full resolution images.  Help!

    Where is this library stored?

  • All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the Finder pictures folder? It seems crazy to have them duplicated (all are backed up externally). And are they full size images in iPhoto?

All my photos have been imported to iPhoto library. Is it safe therefore to delete all photos in the finder picture folder? It seems crazy to have them dupllcated ( all are backed up anyway). And are they the full sized images stored in iPhoto?

Assuming you have iPhoto set to the Default setting, then yes, your full sized photos are copied into the iPhoto Library and so you can delete your own stored in the Finder.
Easiest way to check:  Select a photo in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Is it stored within the iPhoto Library? You can tell easily in the Finder's column view.
    As an FYI:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
