IPhoto Gallery user friendliness!

I wish the iPhoto Gallery had the page numbers at the top and bottom of the gallery. After flipping through all the photos people get to the end and think there are no more photos!!!! I have to add a comment on all my emails to say that they have to go to the top of the page to select the next page of photos.

  • Iphoto gallery/mobile me gallery

Hi. I have just finished a lengthy conversation with .me support but my problem remains . I have published a new album on my gallery. I have sent it out using the tell a friend icon option on iphoto '08 and sent it myself from my gallery page.
I am not able to open the view album or the link below the album. The message is not valid address. The link contains numbers, not that I added, that show up as part of the link after publishing. Support offered help, sending me my gallery link without the numbers. That does not help in the email, nor, if that is the case, should the .mac/.me add them on.
I am using Safari, all my software is up to date. Support suggested I try firefox. (when I have Tiger/Safari, why should I need anything else) Well, that is not working either. I can download that, but when I need to place in applications, I cannot open my Finder . Finder opens otherwise.
I hope my question is clear. I am frustrated. I would like to look at the email that I sent and published on my gallery.. Thank you for all help.

Is it the tell a friend email link that you're referring to? Can you click on the gallery link in iPhoto and get to it online? The link will contain numbers as the folder for the gallery is identified by a 6 digit number.
If it's the link in the email that gets created by the tell a friend that you're referring to you might post in the Mail forum also.
All I can think to do is go to iPhoto/Gallery preference pane and stop publishing. Then republish and see if you can get the email link to work.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Using iWeb/MobileMe/iPhoto Gallery: how do I get them all to work together?

Hi all. I'm using iWeb09 and Mobile Me. What I'm trying to do is create a website using iWeb and host it onto Mobile Me. I registered a domain name and have placed in Mobile Me. I replaced a previous domain name that I had in there that I used for my image gallery since Mobile Me only uses one domain name. I can see the page I created hosted, no problems.
The problem I'm having is when I deleted the first test site I lost the ability to use the Mobile Me Widget with my gallery. Now it does not see my gallery with my photos. Now the iPhoto gallery on Mobile Me still sees the previous domain name when I type it in. I liked it that I had it linked to the online gallery because then you could view the other photo albums.
    So my questions are these:
1- How do I get my widgets to see my Mobile Me again?
2- Do I have to change anything with my gallery to make it be seen?
3- What should I be putting in the site name?

Not for me. None of the MMe galleries will load online or are available in the MMe Gallery widget. Still something amiss.
UPDATE: I take that back. It just took about 5 minutes for the galleries to load. So very slow but they finally did. Some movies in the galleries never would load, like this one: http://gallery.me.com/toad.hall#100411. If you can get it to load and play let me know.

  • How do I save an edited image back to my iPhoto gallery?

How do I save an edited image from Elements back into my iPhoto gallery?

    You have two options:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photo from iphoto, work on it in PSE and save it without changing the name or format (you don't want to see the Save As window) and iphoto will remember your original + last saved version, although you'll have to lose the edits to see the original again. This doesn't work for raw files and you will probably need to set the Editor preferences>saving files>on first save to save over existing to get it to work for other formats.
    2. Export the photo to the desktop, use file>open in PSE, make all the changes you want, save the file in any format with any name you like, then import the edited photo to iphoto as a new file.

  • IPhoto Gallery in iWeb

When adding an iPhoto Gallery to iWeb, the images are slightly cropped, which make them unacceptable. Is there any way to resize the images shown in the little gallery viewer?

The photo gallery preview window is set for landscape. You'll have to get on to ...

    ... about this.

  • Cannot view movies from iphoto gallery...

    Hi,
Using iLife '08, i have published some movies and pictures on my iphoto gallery. All my friends and family can view the movies with no problems on their computers. If i try to view my gallery via Safari or another web browser i get a message that says:
Quicktime is unable to play this movie. Please try again.
When i try with Firefox, i get the audio, but no picture. I have deleted my gallery and started again (giving it plenty of time to upload), but no avail.
Would anyone know if this is an issue with iPhoto/Safari or Quicktime and how can i fix it?
I'm on a new iMac (intel) if that helps any with 10.4.10.
    Cheers!

    Hi all,
If it helps anyone else-i converted the movies that weren't playing into .MOV files and all is working fine now, i can view them-still cant work out why friends and family can view the original clips, on their older Macs, but there you go.

  • Some thoughts on trade-offs between usability and user-friendliness

I use Awesome as a window manager over LXDE. Recently, a friend of mine tried to use my laptop. The experience frustrated him somewhat--he managed to start the browser through the menu shortcut, but it opened out of sight under the "web" tag. Once he realized where it had gone (tags are clickable in Awesome), he had already managed to start several instances of it. Naturally, he tried to close them--first looking for the close window button which is not there, since I dont use title bars, and then trying alt+F4 to no avail (the default key command for closing a window in Awesome is super+shift+c). In desperation, he finally launched the terminal and used xkill to get rid of the redundant Chromium sessions.
The whole thing got me thinking. I find my system very usable--as I guess most of us Linux nerds do, as our systems are do-it-yourself projects to such a large degree. However, it is not exactly user-friendly. At the same time, I can navigate my confused friend's system quite well since he uses Gnome--a system that adheres more to the common desktop metaphor of e.g. Windows or OS X. However, I doubt I would be able to get around very well in some of the more minimalist *box setups so popular among Arch users (though, admittedly, it is probably easier to get the hang of a mouse-centered desktop than one that focuses on keyboard shortcuts). What I find interesting is that there is clearly a trade-off. If I was to build a system for more people than just me, I would probably go with Gnome, but I would not find it as usable as my current system.
Which brings me to my questions. Do others here share that experience? How do you go about managing it--different default sessions for different accounts, or a compromise that is more user friendly but less usable to you personally? Or do you force people to relearn and adapt to your preferred way of doing things (which might sound worse than it is--after all, if my way makes more sense once people adjust to it, then why not)?

While I understand your point, I have to fundamentally disagree with your subject. Having memory issues does not make someone brainless, and I overtly object to such. It would be just as bad as me saying people who think user friendly is for brainless creatures with no memory are elitist pigs *shrugs*.
Case in point, myself. I have memory issues. I didn't always have memory issues, having used to have a very sharp memory. But hey, getting hit by semi-trucks and having your head go through a windshield does some nasty things to your brain functions. Does me now having problems with remembering certain things  all the sudden make me brainless? I sure don't think so, being that I am still able to think, process equations and goals, as well as teach myself new things and relearn forgotten things on a daily basis. It is just that most stuff I have to write down or print out and have in a huge binder in front of me at all times now. Having memory issues simply caused me to have to adjust to how I do things, not make me into a brainless creature. In fact it was after my accident that I came to try and use linux, and while I do have a certain need of the mouse at times, I also have my printed out shortcuts here at my disposal.
The lesson here, be careful of adding insults to posts when trying to make a point. Without that insult I could have easily agreed with your point.
I'm really sorry if it came out like that, I didn't mean that. My point was not at all about memory you know. I forget things too, and it happens often, and I'd curse myself if it were really bad.
I respect men like you. You managed to learn linux (and it was arch! ++), and resolve your issues, e.g. even you do forget sometimes your shortcuts, you still have your memory of them on the paper, plus backups of it. This is nothing like "brainless creators". What I meant by that was more about the lazy people who never know what they have.
I brought my mood to somewhere extreme, because I was feeling again the reasons why I switched to linux. It was the moment I decided I had been a lazy pig who had hated his computer but never had done anything about it.
s/it's for the brainless creatures who've got no memory/it's for the button lovers ;P/
Sorry mythus, I wish you all the best.
    Thank you for your apology.
As I said earlier, I do agree with most of your points, it was just that one glaring sentence at the beginning which took on a role as the subject of your post, which I disagreed with. I do agree that the modern day idea of user-friendliness is for lazy people who don't wish to learn how to use a computer and simply want their computer to know what he/she wants to do and do it without any real input from them.  Having to use all ten fingers versus one to two fingers is where that all boils down to. Just imagine having to actually sit up and make full use of both of your hands to use your computer instead of lean back in a recliner and rest your hand on a small plastic device, barely having to flinch your wrist and move your index finger. That is really where IMO the "User Friendly" systems of today are targeted. In reality, they aren't user friendly at all, but lazy friendly. Truly, I am still waiting for them to invent a mind reading device or a device that monitors your line of vision so that if you say.. look at the upper right side of a window it will close it for you, or if you open your eyes real big, it will full screen the window for you. *sarcasm intended*
For a system to be user friendly it has to be completely usable to it's principal user with little or no complications. The user should be able to do his or her work and other computer related activities without confusion and/or delay. Unfortunately, no two users are alike so the method that fits them best wouldn't work for everyone. However what does seem to work for the majority isn't necessarily a user friendly system, but a lazy friendly system that is familiar after generations of being presented the same UI.
It is also because of the lazy-friendly needs of a O/S so that it can be accepted by the largest amount of consumers possible (after all, it is all about money) that advancements and changes to the UI are sure to never come. At least from a corporation.... So you will always be faced with having to decide if you want your computer lazy-friendly and familiar for your friends/family, or user friendly for yourself.
BTW- I do not think that the mouse is a bad tool. It is a highly useful tool. It just should not be treated as a keyboard.

  • Organisation of events in the iPhoto Gallery

    Hi!
After installing iPhoto 09 I got this problem: I want to access the pictures from another application (a photo-ordering software). To do this I go via the finder directly into the iPhoto Gallery were I find the pictures. With the older version of iPhoto I found the pictures organised in the same way as my events in iPhoto. After installing iPhoto 09, suddenly all pictures are organised in folder named by the import-date. Like this it is absolutely impossible to locate the right pictures, since I am oranising my events manually. Only to see the picture after the shooting-date would help. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can show the original pictures in a logically organised way?
    Thanks for any hints!

to have a referenced library you simply go to the iPhoto advanced preferences and uncheck the option to "copy imported items to the iphoto library" - now iPhoto will not copy the photo but reference the where they are
    BUT!!!!!!!!!
now you are totally responsible for managing those originals and assuring that they never move (including any path change due to hardware upgrade or repair) or change
This is strongly not recommended because it will create many future problems:
    importing is more complicated
    deleting photos is more complicated
edits made to the eternal original will not be reflected in iPhoto
and most importantly upgrading or repairing your system or hard drive will be much more difficut since the links will have to be recreated - possibly one by one

Without upgrading to Leopard or Snow Leopard you would need to find a copy of iLIfe 08.  You can look on Amazon.com or eBay.com for a copy.

  • IPhoto Gallery Publishing issue

    Hi;
I recently changed my password to MobileMe because my info was stolen. So far Im not having any problems with MacOSX, Mail, Syncing between machines.....nothing relating to mobileme EXCEPT iPhoto Gallery. Whenever I try to change or post photos to a gallery I get the following message. "An error occurred with the publication of album...X" Your mobileme account information is not correct. The provided login or password is not valid.
I have tried logging out and back in. I have tried logging out, logging in with bogus info to clear caches, and then relogging in with correct info. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone out there know how I can fix this problem, it's very frustrating.
I've also repaired the keychain using keychain first aid. I found a post where someone was talking about reentering the info in keychain...but didnt really describe the procedure.
    Cheers;

    Ok
so after posting this, apple suggested a few "more like this" posts in the sidebar. I read some and found this thread...https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1997932?tstart=0 it has some good detailed info about the keychain access. I found publish.me.com in keychain access, and sure enough the password was not correct. Updating the password in there fixed the problem.
    Cheers

  • IPhoto Gallery Uploads, Web Browsers Comments "Script too slow"

I have been using iWeb in the past to share my pictures with friends. So when I could see I could use iPhoto to not only share them but let people download near full versions I scrapped the iWeb site I used so people could go to my Gallery to view or download.
Now, I have well 40 Album and uploaded them all which used about half my 20GB iDisk (but thats mainly why I subscribed so dont mind). The problem is that the site flashes up an error message when you use even this most up-to-date version of "Safari", warning the user that the Scrip is too slow and the browser is in danger of hanging. Which 50% of the time it does.
Does anyone know how to solve this or is it just a limitation of MobileMe thats yet to be resolved as thats one of the functions of the site I thought and 40+ Albums is not that OTT.
    Thanks

    Dan
    Start with a rebuild:
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Iphoto gallery Question.

I have a folder of pictures that I had posted on my gallery page but I want to take it off my gallery site. I cannot find the folder in my iphoto program. How can I take it off my gallery site? This has never happened to me before it just disappeared but still showing on my gallery site. Please help thanks!

    Dagger
Welcome to the Apple user support forums
Normally the web galleries show in the left hand sidebar of iPhoto under Web Gallery (may have a black triangle that you click to expand the list) and you would just drag it to the iPhoto trash and empty the iPhoto trash - if it is not there go to the iPhoto menu ==> preferences ==> web Gallery and if it is in the list there, select it and click stop publishing
If none of those work in the finder go to your iDisk ==> web ==> sites ==> _gallery ==> teh gallery you want to remove and drag it to the trash
    Good Luck

  • How do I share photos in iPhoto between users on the same mac

When one user account on my iMac takes photos with their iPhone they download to their iPhoto. I want them to be added to my iPhoto user account also and vice versa.

An iPhone can only stream one "my Photo Stream", and this is bound to one iCloud account, the account that is used  for the iPhone.
If you want to stream automatically from one iPhone to several persons using "My Photo Stream", all of you need to use the same Apple ID and the same iPhoto library, because My Photo Stream can only be tied to one library at a time.
With separate iPhoto libraries and IDs use shared photo streams, if your mac supports them, see:
    iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ
iCloud: Using and troubleshooting Shared Photo Streams
