IPhoto, Garage Band, etc.

I purchased my Powrebook a year ago. It was bundled with Panther (which included iPhoto and Garage Band). I just got panther and did a "clean install". I notice that the iPhoto and Garage Band applications are no more.
If I do back and wipe out my drive, install Panther and then "upgrade" to Tiger. Will the iPhoto and Garage Band applications remain? More importantly, what is Apple's take on this? I like these applications allot. Maybe Apple could offer a "lite" version of these apps and include these on the OS CD.
Thanks.
Mike

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
See this user tip on why what you are referring to is called an erase and install:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607614
iLife applications are part of the additional application suite that came with your restore disk. Different models came with different additional application suites. Use http://www.apple.com/support/ 's search engine on the right hand side to determine which article refers to your restore instructions for keywords of:
restore iLife
When erase and installing all you get installed are the operating system applications with an incomplete iLife. Depending on the age of the Mac, it may mean you get iTunes but no iPhoto, and/or no iMovie. Garageband and iDVD were never included with Mac OS X and always has to be restored after an erase and install. If you just Upgrade or Archive and Install to Tiger without erasing, the iLife applications will remain if they were there on the hard drive to begin with. Only when you erase the operating system do you have to go through the process of restoring the iLife applications that aren't built-in to the operating system.

  • Funky bluetooth keyboard after upgrading iPhoto, Garage Band etc an hour ago

I upgraded iPhoto etc. an hour or so ago. Since then, my Apple Bluetooth keyboard has been behaving strangely (can't make a capital I  using the left shift key; clicking on a document makes it scroll out of control). Help.

Ok, I've resolved this on my machine, at least for the time being.
Here is what I did. I am not advising anyone else to do this and I am in-no-way stating this will fix your problem. I'm just relaying what worked for me. If anyone chooses to try this then it's on their own head!
I opened my Mac Mini and located the Bluetooth circuit board just in front of the rear power button. I removed the small phillips screw holding the board in place and noticed that the connector that connects the board to the main motherboard was not seated well. I removed the connector and reattached it, making sure I felt the 'click' as the connector was pushed home.
I had also read on the net that the routing of the bluetooth ariel cable may cause problems due to interference from the USB ports. I took the opportunity to extract the ariel and run it over the disk and away from the USB ports. Before putting the lid back on I booted up to check Bluetooth was working again.
So, I now have my Mac Mini with Bluetooth working again. We shall see how long this lasts - perhaps the root cause was a loose connection, in which case it may be fixed permanently now. I shall report back in a few weeks.
Be aware that opening your Mac is going to invalidate any warranty. Mine was out of warranty anyway so I was not bothered. I've also got a degree in software and electronic engineering so know my way round the insides of computers. Please make your own assessment of your level of expertise before deciding to try what I did. It may not work for you anyway!

Hi vickkjayy11 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Just to be clear, we are a peer to peer support community and have nothing official to do with Apple.
So to your problem, when you say:
"I reset my macbook pro a few days ago"
What exactly happened? Did you have a Time Machine backup?
    Read this:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
It would help to know the exact model (size and year) and which OS you're using.

  • Audition VS Garage Band etc.

    Hello out there,
I am completely new to all this and not a computer wizard.  However, I have been interested in mixing sound and potentially doing my own recording.  I have seen great explanations of what Garage Band can do on Mac and was wondering if Audition is a similar type program.  From the basic research I've done it is somewhat unclear as to the applications of Audition.  I don't own a Mac nor do I want to and was considering buying an adobe bundle anyway so if someone could spell it out for me that would be great!  Please forgive my ignorance.
    Many Thanks!

Garage band is basically a music creation program - it's popular, has things like MIDI and all sorts of other things for creating music with. Audition, on the other hand, is primarily an audio editor, albeit a rather sophisticated one; it's not really a music creation program at all - even less of one than ever in its present incarnation. It's excellent at most of the peripheral stuff to do with recording (and restoration, etc) and things like mastering - but an electronic music creation program it ain't.
If you want to record and edit acoustic music (ie, no MIDI or anything like that) then yes, you can do this fine in Audition - do almost the entire job, indeed, even in the new version that's still being developed. Everything up to burning test CDs, in fact - that's the only thing you can't presently do.
We can't tell you what's the best thing to do, because it depends in detail on exactly what you want to achieve. But hopefully that's enough infomation to make a decision. A lot of people use music creation software, and link to Audition as an external editor for it, simply because most music creation software concentrates on exactly what it claims to do, rather than decent editing. So you could easily end up needing both!

  • Recording Vocals On iPod Touch For Garage Band etc?

When using the 'app' 'Garage Band' I want to be able to record people singing in a group and singles. I know there's a built in mic but, I understand this records ambient surrounding sounds. The iPod Touch doens't come with a plug in mic/headphone (headphone combination for 'monitoring') so, I was wondering which one to buy that will give great recording of vocal singing and podcasting? (I think it's called a Uni-Directional mic)
    Thank you

two weeks and no one gives a reply!  Oh, well, I'll answer it myself now:
You can buy a good quality headphone lead that has a microphone built in. It's available on this website from Apple! (be careful not to let the mic rub on clothing collars or it'll pick up the sound!

  • HT4906 I just got a MB air. I thought that there was free iPhoto, garage band and several others. How do I determine?

I was under the impression that iphoto along with pages etc was included with my mbair purchase. If so, how do I obtain?

Look in the Purchases List and click on Accept.
If you can't fingure it out there's a link to App Store support on the right hand side of the App Store Window.

  • How to remove Pages, Numbers, Garage Band etc from my Iphone

I'm was buy new iPhone 6 with 64Gb Storage and after activation, find that it have pre-installed app:
    - Pages
    - Numbers
    - Keynote
    - iMovie
    - GarageBand
I don't need all of this. This use more than 4Gb space and I can't remove this.
    How to solve this problem.
I am feeling deceived, because now have problem with store music and photo content, I need upload it in cloud every day.
I can't accept advice to buy new 128Gb model.

Those apps should be removeable from your iPhone.
Hold one of the apps (e.g., Pages) down for perhaps about 2 seconds until it wiggles on your iPhone.  Then press the "X" in the upper left.  The other apps should have "X's as well.

  • Import a song to Garage Band

Why (why why why) can we not import a song sent via email directly into "music", "Garage Band", etc? Or is there a way? It seems ridiculous (bordering idiotic) that this isn't built in. Apple is so wondrously intuitive in every other area this oversight is baffling. Or am I the idiot and the answer sits in front of me somewhere?
I already know how to import any given song by doing so within iTunes via the application specific upload via my desktop or laptop, but lets say I'm sitting on a desert island next to my good friend Wilson, with no access to a computer, but have (miraculously there is a wifi signal) received an email with a song I would just LOVE to edit/add to in Garage Band. How would I do that?
    Thanks for your help.

This is a poor way of doing this but the only way I found to do this is to record your music into the sampler using the microphone then record the sample. I don't like doing this because of clarity and lack of manipulating the track once created. It would be nice if GB added this feature. Also it would be cool if you could mix down the tracks into one so we could have more tracks to work with.

  • Logic Pro 10, Garage Band.

    Hey guys.
I just did a fresh OSX install on my Macbook.
I have not added the additional content (ie, Garage Band, etc.)
I have yet to re-download logic pro X.
Do I have to have Garage Band installed to use Logic Pro X?
Trying to keep my hard drive clean as possible.
I want to use this machine for multi tracking, nothing else.
    Thanks.

    No.

  • Any reason my mac air didn't come with iphoto or garage band?

Aren't macs supposed to come with iphoto, imovie, garage band?

This is iPhoto for iOS (e.g., the iPhone, iPad, etc).  You might want to post your question in the proper forum.
But to answer your question, yes, you should have received a disk with the iLife software included, or it should already be on your HDD.  Have you checked your applications to be sure?

  • Uninstall Delete World Book and Garage Band without problems i.e Iphoto

With only 30GB, I want to free up space. I am concerned that by just dragging these two files to the trash, I will have problems (as mentioned in other discussions).
Can someone tell me "definitively" how to accomplish this without problems. According to the info on file report, these two programs and associated files take up probably 3-4 GB.
Thanks so much in advance for any guidance.

I know of no problems with iPhoto and trashing World Book.
Hwever, some folks have had problems with iPhoto when Garage Band is trashed - it fails to launch.
My suggestion is to keep Garage Band (the app itself, minus language resources is only about 80MB) but by all means trash the associated Sound Loops - which is where the Gigs of space go. In fact, trashing the app won't remove these - they're in an Application Support Folder.

  • Is iPhoto and iMovie and garage band on Lion reinstall thumb drive from Apple??

Is iphoto and imovie and garage Band On the Os x Lion reinstall thumb Drive Sold By Apple???

No.  iLife is a separate product that is bundled with the purchase of a new Mac, not the purchase of a new OS.
So, anyone with an older Mac would have pay for an upgrade to iLife in addition to paying for an upgrade to Lion.
On a positive note, you can now upgrade separate components in the App Store (i.e. iPhoto), instead of paying for the complete iLife suite

  • The Apple Store recommended wiping and reloading software on my Mac Mini yesterday.  In the process I lost iMovie, iPhoto and Garage Band.  How can I get them back?

I took my Mac Mini to the Apple store yesterday since I was having trouble with difficult to read text.  They recommended wiping the drive and reloading it.  I lost iMovie, iPhoto and Garage band in the process.  How can I get them back.  The App store says they are already installed.

What I missed was that I needed to select "Purchased" rather than using the normal listing of items.  Once I went to the purchased list I could easily download the various software.
Thank you all for your help.
