IPhoto gives black screen when I try to use Slideshow or Edit

Hi:
I have a new Powerbook Pro with Snow Leopard and iLife 09. I can see all of my photos in the library, but when I try to go to full screen view, or try to edit a photo, I get a black screen. For the full screen view, the thumbnails are aligned at the top of the screen if I move the cursor there, but the screen remains black where the photo is supposed to be. I tried rebuilding the library (option + control when launching iPhoto), and deleted the iPhoto plist file in the library - preferences folder, but the problem persists.
Thanks

Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. +*The original library will be untouched for further attempts at fixing or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.+*

Some snaps show up as black screens when I try to view them as single pictures.Even when I run them in slideshows they show up as black screens. These are jpeg files. How can I avoid this happening?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

• Why do I get only a black screen when I try to download PDF files?

Why do I get only a black screen when I try to download PDF files?  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader.
This problem just started a few weeks ago.
I am still using Snow Leopard.
I have tried using Firefox instead of Safari, but still get the black screen.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• All i get now is black screens when I try to play content

as the subject line says, I rebooted to try and fix issue with last update using system restore. It worked that day now all I get when I click on tv shows is a black screen

I found a workaround. It appears that if you delete a move/TV show from your library (right click -> delete) and then go to iTunes Store -> Purchases -> redownload the content, it'll work then.
It *****, but it works. I've got a lot of redownloading to do.
The only thing I can think of that I did weirdly with my library was to copy my iTunes media folder to my new PC when I upgraded. If I remember correctly, that's when things went weird for me. This included that if I clicked on a movie that (on my old PC) I'd partially watched, the movie would try to play from that location. Always thought it was strange that that information was carried over from the old PC, in my media folder. Makes sense. But I wonder if it's a clue as to what's going wrong here? I'm grasping at straws here, but anyways...

• I'm Getting a Black Screen When I Try to Watch Some of My Movies

I can hear the movie, but I can't see anything; it is a black screen.  It only happens to some videos (all of which I've downloaded from iTunes).  I tried removing and re-adding the movies, and it hasn't changed anything.

Hi kibbles1053,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The article below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having with viewing some videos on your iPod classic:
iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729
Why do I sometimes not see video but I hear audio, and other times I don't hear audio but I see video?
If you hear audio but don't see video, refer to iPod plays audio but not videos, movies, or TV shows. If you see video, but don't hear audio, refer to iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files.
iPod plays audio but not videos, movies, or TV shows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1894
Symptoms
If the audio for movies plays through the headphones and you see "Now Playing" on the iPod screen with a progress bar, but the video does not appear on the iPod screen, then you may have the TV Out video setting turned on.  To change your TV Out setting so you can view video with your sound:
Navigate on your iPod to Videos > Video Settings
Select TV Out to set it to Off or Ask.
If the issue continues, make sure you are accessing the video through the Videos menu. If you have a video mixed in an audio playlist, you also won't be able to see the video.
If you continue to have issues with a movie you have purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Store, click on the link below:
