IPhoto: Grouping / Nesting Events

Apple:
The requests and customer needs for grouping and nesting events has been communicated on these forums since about 2007 and one would think such functionality would have made it through by now.
Yes one can organize by Album or by Folder but none of that is nearly as nice or as elegant in handling photos as Events. I LOVE events but it is so limited in the shallow display and there needs to be a way to further nest events; otherwise iPhoto is just not extensible enough to handle a lot of photos.
As an alternative, if there is just no way Events will ever see grouping or nesting, is to beef up the Albums and Folders to be more Event like, with keyphotos and the other nice touches of Events.

  • How can I make a backup of my iPhoto Library on disk grouped by events

    Dear fellow iPhoto users,
    I have a 2008 Macbook, which has a big 40 gig iphoto library.
    Unfortunaly my Macbook is (literaly) starting to fall apart and I'm afraid it's lifespan is reaching its end.
    Also I don't have enough money to buy a new Mac.
    I stil have an old PC left, but that PC won't be able to read my TimeMachine backup. So what I did is that I made a backup of my iPhoto library folder to an NTFS external drive, using Tuxera NTFS.
    But the Library is grouped By Date. So I won't be able to find back any events on my PC.
    Is there a way to backup my iPhoto Library grouped by Event to a NTFS external drive???
    Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Dennis from the Netherlands

    You can't use a NAS for an iPhoto Library. End of story.
    iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, exporting, saving edits and sharing the photos.
    See this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5168
    for more. Note also the comment:
    “Additionally, storing the iPhoto library on a network rather than locally on your computer can also lead to poor performance or data loss.”
    You need to export the images from iPhoto to folders and then move those to the NAS - you'll need to do this anyway as iPhoto has zero crossplatform ability.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
    has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.

  • How can I compare a (partial) export folder from iPhoto to an event in iPhoto to find images not exported?

    How can I compare a (partial) export folder from iPhoto to an event in iPhoto to find images not exported?  Or better yet, how can I export selected events to a new iPhoto library or an existing iPhoto library with events, titles and keywords intact?

  • How do I stop iphoto from creating events automatically when I import photos from an external hard drive?

    IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos and when I merge events and then go to finder>all images, I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....I try to delete the extra copies but then the albums or events also get affected, even if there is one copy of each photo left in all images...have someone had this problem?

    You don't have a problem at all.
    IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos
    This is how iPhoto works. Every photo is in an Event. Events are the basic organisation of the Library. Every import means at least one new Event. Yes you can merge Events after import and so on, but there is at least one Event created at each import.
    I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....
    No it hasn't. It hs created versions of the photos, not copies. There will be a couple of thumbnails  for viewing in the iPhoto Window plus the Master and then a edited version for pics that are modified. The icons for each of these may be similar but they are not copies - for a start they are different sizes - and all are required for iPhoto to work.
    go to finder>all images
    Don't. This is simply a list of all the images on your computer. It makes no account or allowance for the purpose of these images. Really, if you're using iPhoto ignore this because if you
    I try to delete the extra copies
    Then you are trashing your Library.
    So, this is how iPhoto works, there is no problem and stay away from All Images.

  • IPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug

    _*iPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug*_
    iPhoto 08 contains a bug affecting the display of images that the user has marked as "hidden." Specifically, when the user toggles the View-Hidden Photos menu option, the Library-Events thumbnail view does not refresh quickly or reliably to show or hide Events containing "hidden photos."
    Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain visible when they should be hidden.
    Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain INvisible when they should be visible.
    This affects the Event thumbnail "key photo" if this photo was designated as hidden.
    This also affects any hidden Event photos when the user "skims" over an Event thumbnail to preview its contents.
    The issue is isolated to Events thumbnails. The problem does not exist:
    a) while browsing thumbnails inside a specific Event.
    b) while browsing photos in Library-Photos.
    c) while browsing photos in an Album.
    _*"Fixes" that do NOT work:*_
    Software updates... I have the latest version of OSX 10.5.2 and the latest version of iPhoto 08, including all the recent security and graphics system updates as of 02/16/2008.
    Maintenance... The issue is NOT resolved by rebuilding the database, rebuilding icons, or deleting the iPhoto preferences file. The issue can be reproduced in a separate user account after creating a new event in an otherwise empty iPhoto database.
    After much tinkering around, the following is the closest I've come to a
    _*TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:*_
    To *NOT DISPLAY* hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos *is not* checked. Restart iPhoto, and the hidden images should now be invisible.
    To DISPLAY hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos is checked. While the hidden images are now visible elsewhere, they may still be invisible in Events thumbnails, so restart iPhoto, and then wait about 10 seconds for the Events view to refresh with all the hidden thumbnail images now visible.
    If after carefully reading this you feel you have a definitive solution, please post a reply with your suggestions. Otherwise, please post to confirm if you can reproduce the problem on your computer running iPhoto 08 on Leopard. If so, please also file an official bug report with Apple. The more people report this, the faster we'll get it fix.

    My Acrobat Pro 9 has also this bug. I am using XP SP2. I have reported this bug at Adobe web site many times. I wrote to the Adobe customer care. I wrote about this on many different forums and I was hopping an update with this bug fixed. I installed all updates till now bu the problem still exists. I do not know why Adobe is not caring about this stupid bug. It is really, really annoying. In my experience with Adobe Acrobat for about 10 years, Acrobat version 9 is the worst version I ever worked with. There are a lot of glitches and bugs in it, expecially with fonts, web version creation, password protection encryption etc etc.
    If you find any fix please post back on this forum.
    Many thanks,

  • Can you stop iphoto from making 'events'

    Hi,
    I dont really understand why Iphoto places all your photos into different sections depending on the day the photo was taken..
    I just imported all my photos from my iphone, and now I have 1000's of different events with 2-3 photos each in them, making the screen look very messy, unorganised and hard to search through.
    Is there a way to just simply display all of the photos at once without silly little 'events' for every single day?
    Thanks

    On Saturday I go to a wedding and take lots of piccies, on Sunday I go for a walk with friends to blow the hang-over away, on Monday I take my camera to work to take some pictures of the presentationsome colleagues give in the afternoon.
    That is o.k., as long related pictures have been taken consecutively.  If you are working at three projects simultaniously and are shooting the photos in the same place at the same time, you may want another organization, for example, you spend three days in a city to take pictures for a book on fountains, a book on churches, and a book on birds. The photos will be mixed and not separated by time. I dove sitting on a fountain in front of the church would be needed for all three projects. iPhoto's daily events will not reflect the projects you are working on. The name "shoot" for the photos taken on one day would be more meaningful than "event" in this case.

  • Chaging a group of event's category/calendar

    How can I change a group of events in one calendar/category to another calendar without having to do each one individually.
    Somehow all my business events are now personal events and would lihe to change them all back as a group and not one-by-one.
    Can this be done? ....I hope!

  • I accidentally merged the events on in my Iphoto into one event.  Is there a way to unmerge ?

    I accidentally merged the events on in my Iphoto into one event.  Is there a way to unmerge ?

    Restore your backup - the reason you have a backup is to recover from errors made by software, hardware and humans - use it
    Short of that the best you can do is use the autosplit selected event command in iPhoto

  • Iphoto moments vs events

    Perhaps the answer to this question is not yet known.
    In iphoto I create events for clusters of similar images. In the new iphoto do 'moments' replace events

    Correct, the answer is not known.

  • Iphoto deleted my events

    iPhoto deleted my events. How do I restore them? I have a time capsule.
    Help me Obi Won, your my only hope.
    Mr. Sharky

    There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
    With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
    Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key )

  • How do i change date in iphoto on an event?

    how do i change date in iphoto on an event?

    Change the dates on the photos. Then, to force iPhoto to revise the ctalogue, flag the photos and go: Events: New Event from Flagged Photos.

  • Trying to Email Photo Using Iphoto 09: Apple Event Handler Failed, WHY?

    Trying to Email Photo Using Iphoto 09: Apple Event Handler Failed, WHY?
    This keeps happening. Please help me solve it

    This one comes up from time to time and it’s caused by a glitch in the AppleScript underpinnings that work in the background. Frankly, I’ve seen no solution for it and suspect that it would require a re-install of the System Software.
    Alternaive:
    Instead of making the email in iPhoto, add the photos to the email in Mail. Use the Photo Browser in the New Message Window and you have full access to the Library.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    You can even resize the pics in the New Message Window as you do in iPhoto.

  • Can you have nested event loops?

    I am trying to use a nested event structure and am have a lot of trouble getting it to work right. On the block diagram I have 5 events that I am looking for. When I hit the baseline button I have an abort button become visible and I want that button to control the vi that I have running in that event, but once the baseline event starts I am not able to push the abort button or any other button for that matter. I started with the user event handler template. Attached you will find a copy of my program, If you decide to run it you need to choose comm port 0 when it asks or else the program will hang. Should I be using a different type of template for this program? This is also a problem when the assay button and save buttons ar
    e pressed.
    THanks

    I opened the code and was missing a DLL and some controls so I was not able to run it. However I still may be able to help.
    Basically I have never had a need for impeded event structures because they are very hard to get right, and in general are not needed. I believe some of the event structure caveats mention this, or the 2 events in a loop are similar.
    Anyways the reason it is dangerous is that they can lock each other. As soon as your VI starts running the structures start watching for value changes. They all share the same event queue so they are all watching the same stack of events.
    So in your code if I hit the Buttons.Save Data button and then I decide to hit it again, or I decide to hit the Buttons.Stop your VI will lock up. If I then hit the S
    aveAssay button it does not matter.
    Here is the reasoning. The queue of events looks like: Save Data, then Stop, and then SaveAssay. The SaveData is handled first so I enter that case. Now before I finish that events code, I must run the impeded event structure due to dataflow. However because I hit Stop next, it is the next thing in the event queue. The impeded event structure is waiting for a SaveAssay or SaveBaseline event, and will not finish until it can process that event.
    However LabVIEW events can not be thrown away so the Stop MUST be handled before the SaveAssay can. So in your case the event structure is waiting to handle the SaveAssay but the Stop must be handled first. However the stop can not be handled until the SaveData finishes, which it cant.
    Therefore you end up locked. LabVIEW can not finish the handling of one event until another is handled, and data flow wont allow that.
    Sorry for the novel here. If you have any questions let me know, I real
    ize this is a confusing answer, but the issue is complicated.

  • How do nested Events work??

    Could anyone Explain in Detail how Nested Events Work????
    Thanx in advance!!

    http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/uds/50/toolref.pdf
    Page 159
    You should read the document but there is a snippet from the doc:
    Nesting event statements You can nest an event statement in your statement
    block either by using another event statement or by invoking a method that
    contains an event statement.
    A typical example is when you want to open a new window and the Display
    method for the window contains an event loop. Another example is using the
    start task statement to start a new task and then use the event statement to wait
    for the return or exception events.
    Code Example 3-13 Nesting event statements
    event loop
    when <quit_button>.Click do
    exit;
    when <start_task>.Click do
    tsk_desc : TaskDesc;
    tsk_desc = start task o.meth() where completion =
    event;
    event loop
    when o.meth_return(x = return) do
    when o.meth_exception(e = exception, f = errs);
    when <cancel_button>.Click do
    tsk_desc.SetCancel();
    end event;
    when <cancel_button>.Click do
    exit;
    end event;
    If more than one event statement is registered for the same event, the event
    statement that is currently executing when the event reaches the top of the queue is
    the one that handles the event. Once the event has been handled, it is removed
    from the queue. Therefore, an event is never handled more than once.
