IPhoto hangs after using Red Eye tool
when I go into edit mode on an image, then use the Red Eye tool, then click Done, my iPhoto just hangs there with the pinwheel turning. other edits seem to work fine when do them and hit Done, but red eye always seems to cause a freeze. does anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance!

What it means is that something in your library is at fault...
So, let's move the pics across to the new library...
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use it to move the albums and events across.
After you move a bunch of events, make sure that the red-eye is still working. If you find that after a while it stops working, then we'll be a lot closer to narrowing down the culprit.

Try the basics:
1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

Error Message when Using Red Eye Tool
I am sure there is something very obvious I am missing here, but when trying to use the red eye correction tool, I get the following error message:
"Could not use the red eye removal tool because the target channels do not cover the composite."
What does this mean and how can I get the tool to work for me? I am using Photoshop CS4.

I recently tried to remove some red-eyes in some pictures I took. When I clicked on the photo, it made a black circle around the eye, like a black-eye on the photo. Any ideas what might be causing this? I have used the red-eye tool in the past and not had this problem.

You can change the curser into a circle, which you can resize to match the pupil exactly. It helps to zoom in all the way on the photo after you enter edit mode.
Type Caps lockControl9
Undo caps lock
Click on the Red-Eye Removal tool.
The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross or a circle for Red-Eye removal tool and between darken and lighten in the Retouch tool.
The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.
To get a lighter correction, Shift-click in the eye.
NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the Retouch tool imparts on each pass.
Thanks to Old Toad for passing along this trick. I find that it often works better than the red-eye correction in Photoshop Elements. -
I'm using iPhoto 4.0.3 on my G5. When I open iPhoto the enhance tool and retouch tool are available, but the red eye tool is grey and is not able to be activated by clicking on it. How can I make the red eye tool work?
Have you tried making a selection of the area that needs the red-eye correction? iPhoto is good, but it really has no way to tell where (or even, whether) eyes are depicted in an image, Slap a marquis around the carnation in a photo depicting nothing but a flower arrangement, and it will gladly remove the red.

Missing red eye tool in photoshop 7.0
I used to have the red eye tool (picture of an eye with a plus sign to the left of it) in my toolbox, but after reinstalling photoshop on my new computer it is gone.
It is NOT under the band-aid tool. when i right click on the band-aid tool only 2 things come up: the healing brush and the patch tool.
any ideas how to get it back???I had the tool before I switched computers, so I am hopefully there is a way to do it.
The tool was a one step fix and the one on graphic soft takes numerous steps which don't look as natural.

CS3 Raw Retouching & Red Eye Tool Missing
So I've been using the CS3 Beta and love it but when I open up my Raw images eager to use the retouching tool to get rid of dust from the sensor, the tool isn't there, nor is the red eye tool. It looks like its the raw interface from CS2 even though I opened the raw files from CS3. Any ideas on what's going wrong?

No...here's the logic-as long as you don't actually MOVE the source, each image will have the source auto-selected while healing the destination. Pretty swift actually (thanks T & Z). If you DO move the source, then the moved source is used in all the images...so there's two way to play it. Let the auto-source select work and all the resulting images will be auto-source on a per image basis or select a custom source and all the images will then be manually set.
And, it work very well. It's conceivable that some images may need individual source selections moved...I've found it's useful to review images after the healing has been distributed to multiple images.
I've also found it's useful to segregate what is a repeating spot from a one image tweak. So, if you are shooting portraits for example, unless you have registration, the odds are that blemishes will need to be done on a shot by shot basis not done to one and distributed...since the odds of the blemish aligning frame to frame is nil.
So, do the shared healing amongst all the images where the same spot is in registration and then go back image by image for specific touches. -

Have been using Light Room since Christmas. Red eye tool was working fine. Now when I select it there is no pupil size or darkness slider showing. Also I can only do one eye for the entire library. After that the cursor works only to the point where I can drag over the second eye but when I let go of the mouse button the cursor reverts back to the cross with a red dot in the center and the eye is not fixed.
Am I missing something or is the tool damaged. I have re-installed, re-booted, repaired the disk, and permissions. Cleared p ram. Still not working.
My camera is a Canon Rebel XTi. I keep all my photos in a file system on my Hard disk in a "photos" folder. I import into the library and keep the files where they are. The tool worked perfectly until I was working on some new photos yesterday. Thanks for any help with this.
BobThere is no ellipse just a cross with a red dot in the center. Dragging it over one eye works and then all additional attempts on other eyes fail. Plus the sliders for pupil size and darkness are missing.

The red eye tool is not working properly. I started many years ago with Elements, then CS2, CS4, and now CS 6. I have never had a problem prior to CS 6. No matter what settings I use, the tool is darkening other parts of the image than the red eye. Either that or leaving a huge black eye.
it is the same with different pictures. If I would send the original picture, it doesn't matter, because the artifact would not be there after exporting.
To clarify the problem (excuse my poor english):
If I use the red-eye-correction in aperture there will be a black square around the pupil, but only in aperture. If I export the picture, the square will disappear - red-eye-correction has worked well. (The picture I send is a screen shot).
If I remove the red-eye-correction, the square disappears.
Even more strange: If I change to fullscreen, the square disappears, back to smaller size it come back.
Nobody can reproduce this? (MacBook 2Ghz, 2Gb, OSX 10.4.7, Aperture 1.1.2)

I have a folder with both raw and JPEG images. I can use the red eye tool on the raw images, but Lightroom just beeps when I try to use the it on the JPEG images. Why is it beeping? What does it mean?
More info: this is Lightroom 1.3 running on Vista. The raw images are from a Canon 40D. The JPEGs are from a Panasonic FX07.Ramon is right. Best to select the whole eye (even eyebrow) and you'll get the overlay box around the red. If it doesn't entirely cover the red (or if it box bounds some reddish eyelids) you can click and drag to widen(lessen) or lengthen the box and change the 'pupil size'. And so far I haven't found any, even bright, redeyes where the 'darken' control won't get a good dark result. [Animals (green/yellow eyes) are a different story.] Sometimes going too dark will also darken the irises. With the 'show overlay' unchecked you can drag the 'fix' off the eye onto the cheek to see the pattern - dark in the center and then a gradient fade of dark going out from center. "Clear all" clears all of course and you can start over.

When I go to use the Red Eye tool (LR_v10) , the pupil size and darken sliders are greyed out and don't function.
I can box in the red eye, but since both sliders are locked to the left (minimum) the tool does not work.
Has anyone else seen this and is there any fixes or workarounds?
Pookie_buttSometimes temporarily lightening (Exposure) will help to get Red Eye working. Then you can reset the exposure.

I am using Photoshop Elements 2.0 and cannot get the red-eye tool to work. I ssem to be able to select a replacement color, but cannot get it to "brush-in" and cover to brightness of the eye. I think it needs to be more opaque. Can you make any suggestions or give me a hint?

Try this alternative to the Red Eye Tool:
1. Zoom in to large eye.
2. Select the red area plus a few extra pixels, feather a little.
3. Enhance -> Adjust Color -> Hue/Saturation
Select red from Edit menu and move Saturation slider to the left.
And another way:
1. Set Foreground color to default black.
2. Zoom in to large eye.
3. Select Brush Tool with soft brush, Mode set to Color,
and low Opacity.
4. Dab over the red until you get desired result. -
