IPhoto hangs & takes whole system with it...
This has just started recently & is driving me nuts.
When I try to transfer images into iPhoto it hangs part way through.
About the only thing I can do is move the cursor, everything else is totally frozen.
Can't even get optioncommandescape to come up & quit out of iPhoto.
The only way to fix it is to hard-shut the system (holding power button down).
If I import the same images through Image Capture there are no problems until I then try to import them into iPhoto. Again it hangs.
If I split the images saved by Image Capture into a folder of jpgs & one of cr2s (raw's) and then import these folders separately into iPhoto that works.
I thought it may be a faulty card so I tried another that didn't help.
I thought it may be a faulty USB lead so I tried a firewire card reader. That didn't help.
Sooooo... if the images aren't corrupt, the card is fine, the transfer devices are functional... what is going on with iPhoto?
By-the-by camera is EOS 1DMkIII using 8g CF card. Have had no problems of this sort until around 3 weeks ago.
Since iPhoto creates a jpg for each RAW file imported shooting both RAW and jpg and importing both is redundant and will take up additional hard drive space. Have you considered just shooting RAW?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

This is happening when I just finished edition RAW files in ACR and hit DONE, right after that a Bridge hangs, Cannot open Explorer, PC functions are down, cannot start anything, cannot stop Bridge process, cannot properly restart. Only holding power button shuts donw PC forcefylly.

That is indeed a tempting thought, have you already tried the refresh preferences for Bridge using ctrl key pressed down while restarting Bridge?
But Bridge is very critical in reacting on odd system behavior, so also keep the advice of Station-Two in mind. On a Mac repairing permissions often solves problems, don't know the PC equivalent of this. -
How do i recompile whole system with glibc and gcc from test
I always run testing and hence upgraded all my system a couple of days back. How ever one pprogram i use very often, BLENDER isn't working after i upgraded glibc and gcc4. I have recompiled it but when I get all this errors when i start it http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=21825.
I think i need to rcompile all its dependant programs with new glibc and gcc from testing also. Problem is I dentifying which programs to compile is proving a pain as the dependant programs also depend on other programs etc...
Is there a way to recompile my whole system without having to do it one by one?if you want to compile everything, gentoo is an option. But abs is excellent too.

We are hosting a Windows Form in IE builded with .Net Target Framework 3.5 and running in ASP.Net website's run time .Net Framework 2.0.
Till now, this is working in Windows 7 and IE11 combination. When we planned to migrate to Windows 8 and IE11 combination, some functionalities in the Windows form hosted in IE fails, its keep on hanging.
When we debugged the code, we found that hanging happens at
1. To insert a image
WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(url);
2. While doing webservice call
CSpellCheckerWS objCUserDictionaryWordsWS = new CSpellCheckerWS();
Please find below our Trails for workaround:
1. We have try catch block on top of above lines, but it never comes to catch or proceed (checked for more than 30 minutes), its keep on running that makes IE to hang. End user have to kill the IE to proceed with our web application.
2. We have timeout option for WebRequest object, but we are having problem in the constructor itself, so unable to make use of timeout option.
3. We planned to use HttpClient object, but for this we need to build our Windows Form with Target Framework .Net 4.5. But .Net framework 4.5 will no longer support to host the Windows Form in IE.
4. We observed that, for our Windows Form project dll, say abcd.dll, we have ref link to abcd.config.xml
in the ASP.Net hosted web page. If we remove the *.config.xml, then we do not have this hanging issue. So, our problem solves here. But we faced another problem. Now we are getting
404 errors for all the dependent child dll for our main dll, abcd.dll. Even though we have child dlls in the same folder of abcd.dll, it is checking in website root folder, bin folder , .exe, .dll and finally after 8 iterations, it is picking
the correct dll. So for multiple child dlls we are getting 9 * no. of child dlls = 404 errors. So, we are unable to proceed further.

What .NET Framework version are you using after you migrate your client to windows 8 and IE11? If it is 4.0 or 4.5, I am afraid this is by designed because hosting controls in IE is now blocked by default (as of v4 or v4.5). See MSDN article under
'Web Applications'.
You could still enable it by modifying its provided registry key.
By the way, since this issue is related with IE and web application, I suggest that you could post such kind of issues to related forum, as
IE forum and Web forum.

SFTP and rsync crashing, and taking down the whole system with them
Hi everyone,
Never before I had to resort to the forums, but now I've got a problem I can't seem to solve, no matter how hard I try. Maybe someone on the forums can help me?
Both rsync and sftp (fish:// in konqueror) freeze my server, when I transfer a large file with them. The machine does not respond to anything, and a hardware reset is required.
I first noticed this, when my server ("bluebox") started crashing daily, always just a while after the cron'ed daily backup ran from my workstation ("caspar") (using rsync):
rsync -v -rltD -e ssh --numeric-ids --delete --exclude /proc / caspar@bluebox:/home/caspar/backups/workstation/files/
It always hung on a VirtualBox harddisk file, "WinXP Fundamentals.vdi", 3.4G in size. Sometimes 1.1G was transferred before crashing, sometimes only 700M.
I also tried copying this file with fish://bluebox in Konqueror, again a total freeze of the system after a few hundred MB. Copying with tar over ssh did work though:
tar cvf - "WinXP Fundamentals.vdi" | ssh caspar@bluebox tar xvf -
This server is completely stable apart from this problem. The network has proven to be stable as well, as it's been serving aroung 100GB of various data per day for the past 2 years. Memtest86+ also did not reveal any problems.
Do you have any idea what might cause the crashes, and how I might be able to solve it?If you upgraded from 3.6 to 5 (you didn't indicate buying 4.4) then you will need the serial number from 3.6 in order to be able to use 5. If you did not keep a record of it there is a chance it might be available thru your Adobe account online, but if not, there is likely not much you can do except to return the upgrade and purchase a full version. Try contacting support using chat and explain your situation to see if they can help.

Hi, I tried to create a slideshow that contain more than 500 photos. Now, trying to open / execute / select the slideshow, iPhoto hangs with the spinning coloured wheel and I have only to force the deletion from System Preference. I already tried to rebuild the iPhoto Library (all the possible options) and tried to update teh version from 9.4.3 to 9.5 but the problem still persists: is there a way to delete this slideshow without selecting it ? How can I solve the problem, please?

If not, have you tried to rebuild the slideshow with iPhoto Library Manager?

When I try to download (and especially renew) a page with my rss-feed that I read with Yandex service, the browser freezes, and then the whole system freezes. It typically takes about 5-7 minutes to load a very minimalistic page, and I can't use my browser or my system during that time.
This started with the release of Firefox 5. I use it on Ubuntu. I haven't experienced similar problems with any other websites.
I have already contacted the Yandex team about the matter.
I guess it's just a little weird that one of the Yandex services won't work in Firefox, as Firefox comes with a built-in yandex-bar in many cases. And it sure is frustrating.

You need to use a credit card with a billing address in the same country as the delivery address. Since there's no Apple Print Store for Costa Rica I assume you're using the United States print store. Therefore you'll need a credit card with a billing address in the US.

My Mac keeps crashing (whole system) when I'm watching videos with Firefox, any idea why?
Ok so I got a new mac and as usual install firefox which is my favorite browser, suddenly my computer started crashing, not just firefox the whole system froze and I had to reboot to make it work again, I didn't know what was happening until I noticed that said crashes happen when I was watching videos on firefox, I tried to use chrome and the issue was gone. So anyone has any idea why this is happening? I really would love to start using firefox again!

If I back up iMovie projects to an external drive does imovie take the media with it? I want to free up space and remove pictures that were in iPhoto...that were used as media by iMovie when project was under way. In short I want archive iMovie stuff. If I pull pics out of iPhoto, and later want to drag an archived projet bac into iMovie and the pics are no longer in iPhoto, will I be able to keep working in the project in iMovie?
Very likely not, as the iPhoto's can be used for something else.
More like it took a copy, or it's referencing that spot on the drive in the editable files and most likely made a copy to create a new permanent export file.
Sample one picture and a iMovie file and see what happens. -
Compliance Calibrator 4.0: replace whole ruleset on one system with another

We have two R/3 environments (one's at 4.7 the other is 4.6c). Both are running CC 4.0. What's the best way to replace the whole SOD ruleset on the 4.6c system with the one from our 4.7 system. When I say whole ruleset I mean all the risk, function, and business process area tables then regenerating all the rules. I don't care if the 9-digit risk ID's are identical in each system. And I don't want to copy any of the mitigation information to the other system.
I looked at the download/upload utility and it seems to deal with the generated rules. The text files it downloaded do not appear to contain anything resembling the function or risk tables. I assume we want to do more of an export/import activity similar to an upgrade conversion or new install (but using the risks and functions from our other system instead of the default set supplied by Virsa.) I can extract the tables I want (/virsa/bussproct, /virsa/funtiont, /virsa/functtcd, /virsa/functobj, /virsa/risks, etc.) and manipulate them into whatever is needed. But I'm not sure how to delete the existing tables contents and import my data from the other system.

I was running Lightroom 3.6 with the OS Windows XP (Sp3). The whole system crashed, I am unable to recover the serial number. I then upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (x64) and down loaded Lightroom 4.4, I wanted to buy a licence so I then upgraded to Lightroom 5, now when I try to register I am asked for the original licence/serial number. Where do I go from here??????
