Iphoto has gone mad

Hi there
I have a new Imac and I had about 950 photos on it imported from my cameras and USB storage devices.
When I activated Iphoto for the first time and it imported photos it seemed to think there was over 30,000 photos and whilst importing it seemed to import the samew photos again and again.
I cannot open it now as it spends all its time updating thumbnails.
What has happened? Please help!
Olly

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.

  • IPhoto has gone cadywompus...

    So here I am on a Saturday night looking at my photos and realized that iPhoto has gone completely cadywopmus. Viewing photos in iPhoto everything looks fine. Looking at my photos using Finder I now see, only in a few folders, that there are up to 5 duplicates of many of the photos. They all have the file name IMGXXXX1, IMGXXX2, etc. (all my photos typically have the IMG_XXXX.JPG). I did not create these, and in some cases they were dud photos that I have stricken from iPhoto altogether. Why then has iPhoto duplicated these photos? Again, it’s only in a few folders that I just looked at randomly. Any thoughts?

    Any thoughts?<<<</div>
    Yup. I'm thinking that you used the finder to muck around with the innards of the library folder.

  • My JVM has gone mad !

    my JVM has gone mad !
    Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
              long free  = r.freeMemory();
              long total = r.totalMemory();
              long used  = total - free;
              System.out.println("total"+total/(1024*1024));
              System.out.println("used"+used/(1024*1024));output :
    total 1
    used 0
    this output is absurd ! bcause by default JVM eats up 64 MB RAM. how can it show total is only 1 MB ?
    is my JVM corrupted ?
    i want to see my JVM to print 64 MB RAM . how ?

    First, try writing:
    System.out.println("total"+total/(1024d*1024));
    System.out.println("used"+used/(1024d*1024));
    it is already in the code . whats wrong with it ?Uh, uh. There are two "d"'s more, so that you can se a floating-point amount of megabytes.
    Then...
    freeMemory
    public long freeMemory()
    Returns the amount of free memory in the Java
    Java Virtual Machine. Calling the gc method may
    result in increasing the value returned by
    freeMemory.
    Returns:
    an approximation to the total amount of
    mount of memory currently available for future
    allocated objects, measured in bytes.
    how much memory JVM consumes when it starts ?Isn't that exactly what your program tells you ?

  • HT4906 My hard drive replaced and my iPhoto has gone!

    Hello All,
    My 16 month old Mac Book Pro's hard drive has failed so I have had it replaced. I had iphoto on my mac from when I purchased it but now it has gone (along with my mac office) and all my photos too :-( Truly gutted. Is there anything i can do to get iphoto back or will I need to purchase it now?
    Dont think its right I should have to now buy it?
    Thanks,

    What is the operating system you originally had on your Mac, when you bought it? And what was the iPhoto version you last used?
    If you already upgraded to MacOS X Mavericks and have been running iPhoto '11, version 9.5.1, you can download iPhoto again from the AppStore. Sign into the AppStore with the AppleID you used, when you set up your mac initially and open the "Purchased" tab, as described in this Support Document:
              OS X: About OS X Recovery
    Scroll down to the middle of the page:
    Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X
    If your computer came with OS X Lion or later and you erase your hard disk and install OS X, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
    After installation, start (up) from OS X.
    Choose App Store from the Apple menu.
    Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
    Click Purchases.
    If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
    You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.
    Applications you bought from the AppStore can be restored by downloading them from the Purchased tab.
    To restore your iPhoto library and other applications, you need to restore from your backup - a Time Machine Backup for example, or a bootable clone of your drive.

  • FCP5  has GONE MAD, it WONT QUIT CRASHING.

    FCP5 GONE MAD, WONT QUIT CRASHING.
    The problem started earlier with a simple "Preview Disable" problem. While trying to fix this a new problem arouse, FCP5 has crashed at every single attempt to do anything with it... Here is a thread that will give you some background information leading to this problem. Jeff Hubbach, "PREVIEW DISABLE; [VTR OK]; read TimeCode and control camera" #6, 12:30pm Oct 17, 2005 CDT
    I have run Disk Utility, trashed FCP5 preferences and restarted the computer and I had to force quit the program every time I have opened it today.
    What do you? please help

    Hello Patric,
    The sofware "crash" meaning it locks up (So far what is does is that it shows the loading icon and thats it) I wait just a few minutes, but when I press the Cmd + Option + Esc to force quit, FCP5 reads " Final Cut Pro Is Not Responding" everything on red.
    The other things is that even after force quiting, on the dock it still indicates that is open, and when I press the Cmd + tab to navigate through the programs, it still shows FCP as if it was open.
    I don't have any network drive mounted. I am using one drive the same that is running the the OS and others...

  • Battery power consumption has gone mad...!

    I have an iphone 5 IOS 7.0.4
    Suddenly the battery consumption has gone crazy.  The phone feels warm and and 100% of power is used over 4hours with phone in standby.
    The power lasts if I turn off mobile data.  I have no apps running and location services icon is not showing?
    I did find that I have used up all of my icloud storage .. I have resolved this issue now..
    There seems to be a hidden process that is using power..  I do not know how to track this down... any suggestions please?

    Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
    Sorry to hear that you're having issues with battery performance.
    I recommend that you first check what's using battery. Charge the battery full and then use the phone as you normally do. When battery level is low, go to Settings -> Power management -> Battery usage. What does it say here? By tapping the apps/functions in the list you can also se how long they have been active.

  • Spotlight has gone mad...

    Spotlight has gone crazy in Snow Leopard...
    All day long my MBP has been running hot and the fans have been a spinning.
    My main disk name is "Macintosh HD" and my backup disk name is "MBP".
    Every time I try to use spotlight I get the "unavailable" message and the barber pole
    spins with a message that is something like:
    Estimating time for indexing mbp.
    Note the lower case. ( mbp is also the name of the mac).
    I have told spotlight to ignore "MBP" but that does not appear to be working.
    The console log shows many crashes:
    8/29/09 7:46:29 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.metadata.mds[493]) Job appears to have crashed: Segmentation fault
    In desperation I have turned off indexing for the root volume "Macintosh HD".
    This has returned some normalcy to the system ( but search can't find anything).
    Is this a widespread problem?
    Any fixes that allow spotlight to work?
    Thanks
    Jerry

    Hi Jerry.
    This does seem to be a widespread problem, and putting your root in the Privacy Pane as you have done is the only fix I've found so far:

  • Help my iPad3 ( 64gb wifi+4G ) has gone mad !

    As per title , it started to go sluggish while playing Angry Birds Space and now nothing is working properly . Touchscreen is unresponsive even to enter the password . Tried syncing with iTunes  but cant enter the password at the prompt ( buttons inactive )  . Tried Home + Enter but cant power off for the same reason . When the screen is on , the Time and Slide to Open buttons appear but have no effect and a set of Audio buttons appear and flash in order ( Stop , Play , Next etc ) at the top .
    It has now cooled down ( it was quite warm ) , not connected wirelessly and pressing the Power button the display appears normal but no reaction from buttons. How does one get it going again without access ? Or have I got a dud ?
    M

    Hi , and Thanks for that . Unfortunately , it made no difference . According to iTunes I have successfully restored the iPad 3 but the problems are :
    1) No response from the screen . Slide to Open etc do not work .
    2) Audio Controls at the top of the screen appear randomly and flash and alternate with the clock . The Volume slider moves up and down all on its own while each of the other buttons are highlighted one after the other !
    3) The few photos on board roll along on a permanent Slideshow .
    4) A black bar , the same size as the Slide to Open bar , containing and exclamation mark and the words ' No Sim Card Installed ' has appeared in the middle of the screen . Inserting a Sim card has no effect .
    5) Brightness flickers as if its own Slider Control is being moved up and down .
    6) Basically , its now a brick . I cant gain access without the screen and cant properly shut it down without the ' Off' slider working !
    7) Very disappointing with something < one month old

  • KeyChain has gone mad.

    hi, help. i have two mac's updated to 10.6, the macBook is doing fine but the MacPro is having issues. Keychain starts up works. (i used to have to type the password in but now it's auto) BUT... about ten mins into work, suddenly it stops working and asks for the password, which it promptly rejects. (yep i know the password) so suddenly i have windows everywhere demanding it.
    so far i've fixed permissions (nothing)
    first aided keychain (nothing)
    killed all the .mac keychain items (nothing)
    tried to change the keychains password (rejected)
    help... its driving me mad...
    cheers
    g

    Babowa has offered a solution. The reason Apple is not supporting you unless you pay is because you opted to not get AppleCare which would have extended the warranty to 3 years and also provided 3 years of telephone support. Unfortunately you have to get AppleCare within the original 1 year warranty period, let it go beyond that and you are self insuring.
    Sorry to hear you dissatisfied though. I think if you spend a little time with Mavericks you will find it stable and accommodating. Is it possible you may need a little more training or education on Mavericks? If so, there are many resources available including Apple Store classes, courses  on-line, community colleges and of course books at the local bookstore.

  • Mouse pointer has gone mad on NB100

    Started a download from the iTunes store, came back 30 minutes later to find my mouse pointer jumping erratically in a vertical direction. Had to disable the synaptics pointing device driver and plug in a USB mouse. After rebooting and restarting the mouse driver it appeared to work mostly correctly again until today where it's doing the same thing.
    Has anybody else experienced this? I'm coming to the conclusion that the touchpad and keyboard on this device are just very poor indeed.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply. I uninstalled the Synaptic driver and installed the Microsoft one. Still does it, although it is intermittent. When it happens, if I tap the touchpad in the right place it stops. So, it does look like there is something wrong with my touchpad.
    Once I back my HD up I am going to revert back to the original factory install. If it still does it then - and I'm fairly sure it will - I guess it's off to Toshiba to get repaired.
    I wouldn't mind so much had it not been for the fact that the netbook has had very little use indeed - maybe as little as 100 hours in total as I tend to only use it when on holiday / visiting the parents.

  • IPhoto has gones from crashing to just being ... blank

    I have a late 2009 iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.6.8
    My iPhoto 8 stopped working when I plugged in my iphone/ipad.  The familiar message came up about the problem report.  I upgraded to the lastest iPhoto (9.2.1 from the App shop - will have to look into whether the TOS allow me to downlod it a second time if I delete it) thinking that would solve the problem.  Problem persisted.  Before mucking about too much I tried using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library; it could not work and showed me the same problem report message from iPhoto.  I copied my 50 gb iPhoto Library onto an external drive so that if I reinstalled I would not lose the photos.  The original iPhoto library is still in place.  I wanted to open iPhoto so I could more fully examine the problem report log and copy the first 50 lines of code. For a while I couldn't even get the Problem report when opening iPhoto, just a blank white box with a blue "choose" button in the bottom right corner.  The menu bar at the top of the screen is available but almost all choices are greyed out.  After trying various things I have gotten the problem report back (copied below). I have tried the obvious choices of rebooting the machine, deleting the plist file and looking for 3ivx (not installed).  I am now a bit hesitant to do anything.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thank you in advance.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
    2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
    A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
    If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
    If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
    If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • After apple store erased and re-installed iPhoto has gone. how do I get it back ?

    macbook air 14 mths old wouldn't turn on. apple store said corrupted hard drive. erased and re-installed os x 10.8 . now restoring back up but iPhoto missing and iTunes and app stores says os version doesn't support them. What can I do ?

    Visit the store, log in and download again, what you can get. Apps are no problem, even videos.
    Regarding music, this is not since ever that you can download music again. So if there are older purchases, like from 5 years ago, you can't simply download them again from the store.
    In this case, contact iTunes support saying you lost all music purchases from before a certain date and kindly asking if they would make that available for download for you and most probably they will. The store keeps your purchase history, so they can verify.
    After all or at least most of the stuff is ack on HDD again - make a backup! And later, regularly make backups again. Remember it.

  • Can ANYONE explain why my iPhone has gone MAD???

    For the past two days while my phone is charging I have not been able to explain this and sound sane. If I touch the settings icon the camera will open up, if Safari is touched then settings opens, allowing no function be assigned to their icon and it's is really freagin weird. A few times I have tried to power off the phone but won't allow me to slide the power bar off. Holding down the power/homescreen button will restart the phone but right back to madness. Can anyone at all explain what the **** is going on with my phone?? I did notice it with a particular charger and close to 2 other laptops. Not sure, but with my boyfriend around I thought he was playing a joke on me since he is very computer literate but denies anything to do with this and from what I can tell by what I've read it could be the charger? I need to know cause it's not anything I wish to encounter again, If this had video I'd show you. possessed I swear!

    I'm not certan how to tell whether or not it is jailbroken but it's only when I use a specific charger and it's been fine ever since I threw that stupid thing away, No problems with the phone other then simple things I can handle. lol I seriously hope that madness never happens to anyone else!!!!
