IPhoto has rotated and distorted a lot of my old photos

Something strange has happened to some of my older photos. The photos are in portrait orientation, like they're supposed to, but the image itself is rotated and stretched (as you can see in the image). After looking at the distorted image in full screen, the thumbnail is also distorted. Rebuilding the library didn't fix the problem. Is there a way to fix this?

First, try this:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If this doesn't help give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
If all photos appear normal in this new library we know it's not damaged image files and that the problem lies with your existing library.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

That can work as one method of backup but you should be using TimeMachine and/or something to keep your system and data backed up on one or more drives.
    Pacifist
can be used to extract and install, but you need to find your iLife disc or OEM disc with Applications.

  • Iphoto has crashed and will not open.  Can I reinstall Iphoto without loosing my existing photos?

Iphoto crashed and will not start.  How do I save my existing photos and videos and reinstall Iphoto?

reinstalling will not cure this - you need to rebuild your library- Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
And the ONLY way to "save" your photos and videos - and every other file on your computer - is to always have a good current backup - sooner or later your disk will fail and with no backup you will lose everything

  • My iphoto has disappeared and photo library

I have been looking at similiar problems but nothing seems to be exactly like my problem.  My iphoto has disappeared from my doc.  There is no "iphoto" in the applications.  When i go to my iphoto library I get this message. "There is no application set to open the document "iphoto Library".  I do not have back-up for photos.  I do not want to lose them if at all possible.  I do have my start up disks for my computer.

Well put in the applications install Disc.   Received this message:

  • My Iphoto has disappeared and my application disc gives me an error at the end of installation, how do I download IPhoto in my situation?

My Iphoto has disappeared all of a sudden. I tried to use my application disc but it gives me an error at the end of installation. I don't have to pay for an App that was already on my computer. How do I download or get IPhoto in my situation?

Is this an iLife installation disk or system install disk?  In either case download the demo version of   Pacifist and open the install package on the disk.  Locate iPhoto and use Pacifist to install iPhoto.  Then you'll need to apply the latest updater from the Apple Downloads webpage:
Apple - Support - Downloads.  Just search for the iPhoto version you installed to get the updaters for that version.

  • I am opening my iphoto one day and it says 'your facebook album cover photos has been deleted from facebook?

Iphoto then prompts me if I want the deleted photos in my library otherwise it'll be moved to iphoto trash. Though my cover photos are still intact on facebook. All other albums are synced correctly in web pane of iphoto. Now i want my cover photos album back synced in iphoto as i upload photos in it.
Any Help will be appreciated, Thanks.!!

    Are they in last import?
For the future do not ever have any program including iPhoto delete your photos - wait until at least one successful backup cycle has occurred and then use your camera's format command to reformat and erase the card
Try the rebuild again - if it is not successful and they are not in last import then you will need recovery software like Media REcover

  • IPhoto has changed the creation dates to all of my photos

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro, my first computer since my iMac circa 2005. I've successfully transfered all of my photos to the new computer, but iPhoto has changed the creation dates of every file, so they're no longer in chronological order. I've used DVDs and Dropbox, I've exported the files, copied the data files from the hard drive, everything, but the result is still the same. I contemplated changing each file manually, but I have over 3,000 photos. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a way I can restore the correct dates?

    Hi Keith,
Yes, it's date that the photo was taken that has been changed. When I look at the "photo info" of each individual photo, the "original date" is correct, but the transferred photos on my new computer always change to a 2007 date, despite the fact that the photos were taken as early as 2002.
    Does this make more sense?

  • IPhoto is trippin and won't let me view my photos! Somebody help me!

OMG! So I totally screwed up my aunt's Iphoto's. I swear I didn't do anything for her photos in Iphotos to have big ugly explanation marks in it's place every time I try to open them. What can I do? Already reset the PRAM (yes I know but that's what everyone else told me to do) did the ALT. COM. option and rebuilt my Library, nothing works. Please help. It seems that not even Google can help me, and Google never fails! LOL, but to be serious if I don't fix this problem I don't know what I'll do with myself. Maybe I'll just pull out the old photo albums from my attic to store photos from here on out and risk getting bit by a black widow or worse, realizing I don't have an attic!

What version of iPhoto? of the OS? what did you do to "totally screw up" her photos? Does whe have a backup?

  • Pavilion Sleekbook x64 has grainy and distorted images, color is mostly red, anyway to fix this

    Intel(R) HD Graphics 400
HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14: images are grainy, distorted and mostly red.  Can anyone help.

    Hi @ramses66 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Pavilion 14 Sleekbook and images being distorted or red. Try connecting the notebook to an external monitor with VGA or HDMI. Here is a document to show you how to do that if needed.
If it is you are having issues with a graphics card.  If it doesn't happen on an external monitor we dealing with a hardware issue with the display.
Here is a document on Resolving Video and Graphics Issue.

  • IPhoto has crashed and lost all my photos

I imported about 80 new photos earlier today and all was well. Later on I went to have a look at some of the new photos and iPhoto "unexpectedly quit". When it reopened I got a message saying "welcome to iPhoto" etc etc, basically it is as if it's reinstalled, but all my photos have vanished.
I've had a look on my HD and the photos are all there and open perfectly well in Preview, but if I try to import them into iPhoto I get a message telling me they couldn't be imported because they may be an unrecognised file type (they're all normal jpgs) or they may not contain valid data (but other apps can read them).
    Help!! Anyone have any ideas?

    Fegster
iPhoto won't import from the iPhoto Library Folder - a sensible precaution against duplication.
As you're database is corrupted your choices are limited. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library Folder allowing it to overwrite the damaged file. If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards

  • Cursor has forzen and a whole lot of other issues

Hi, when i first got my BB a year ago the A/ lock buttin froze, then got stuck then started beeping in my ear when i spoke on the phone, kept locking itself then could not unlock it. I could live with all this because the fix it time was 6-8 weeks and i could not do without my phone. Then the light stayed on while charging and low and behold i go to my phone yesterday only to see the cursor has frozen everything else work including the A button now but the cursor is frozen - i love my BB but this is enough.  I have pulled my battery out, nothing, i habve checked for dirt around the cursor, nothing so please is there any other way to fix this phone?

It's hard to say without more information.  First of all, what's the output of ipconfig/all?  If you haven't already you should disable the IPv6 tunneling interfaces:
    View/Disable Tunneling Interfaces:
netsh interface teredo set state disabled
    netsh interface teredo show state
netsh interface ipv6 isatap set state disabled
netsh interface ipv6 isatap show state
netsh interface ipv6 6to4 set state disabled
netsh interface ipv6 6to4 show state
For issue 1, ideally you would provide a packet capture.  I know that NetBIOS is IPv4 only so if the short form of \\server is using NetBIOS but when resolving the name produces an IPv6 address it may break.  This is pure speculation though - a
packet capture would probably help provide a more definitive answer.
For "issue 4" same as 1, would ideally need a packet capture or paste in some of the logs.
