Iphoto has Stpped working

Hi Community
I am running OS X 10.6.8 on an imac (intel) I have iphoto version '11 9.2.2 (629.40)
My iphoto has stopped loading I just get the spinning cog thing, and no error messages and I cannot time this to anything I have specifically done.
I have read answers on here and downloaded iphoto library manager which seems to have retrieved my photos. but I am really unsure of what to do next.
You have probably guessed I'm not to good at the technical stuff. From what I have read I should now darg the iphoto App files to the waste bin, reload it from the applications disc, then run updates and then presumably reload the library from iphoto library manager. Is this the correct course of action in my case?
Secondly I am terrified that if I will loose my photos as I have no other back up (ok I know with hindsight stupid) so are they now safe in iphoto library manager or will dumping iphoto dump that too?
Andree

1. You photos are not "safe in iPhoto Library Manager". There is no place in Library Manager for them. It just lists what it sees in the iPhoto Library.
2. Make a back up now.
Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
3. To deal with the problem: use the rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

If you attempt to search for a solution on various forums there appears to be a link for this problem with issues accessing quicktime, and system 32 files.  I have got no problems accessing quicktime, and i Have re-installed itunes several times, uninstalled anti-virus, turned on and off the firewall, all to no avail.  At this point evertime Itunes is opened it attempts to connect to the store and crashes, so cant even listen to the music in the library.
Anybody got any ideas how to fix?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello angus94,
Thank you for providing the details of iTunes unexpectedly quitting.  I found an article with steps you can take to further isolate and troubleshoot an issue like the one you described:

so i have updated to the newest software update, and EVERYTHING has updated according, except iPhone
Just to be sure: By "Newest Software" you mean, you have updated to MacOS X 10.9.3, the newest version of MacOS X?
this had come up with the white stop sign in front, and is still the old icon, (orange background).
Is that what you are seeing currently in your Applications folder? Or where are you seeing it? In the Dock?
I have gone to the app store and updated, and is says the new iPhoto has been installed. however it obviously hasnt.
Where on the App Store are you looking? Do you see the blue iPhoto 9.5.1 icon on your "Purchased" page or the Updates page?
Look into the Applications folder for iPhoto, and search with Spotlight by typing iPhoto into the search field in the upper right corner. You may have both the old and the new iPhoto installed.

  • Manage My Places/Google Search in iPhoto has stopped working.  I have always had my Look Up Places Preference set to Never.  Any ideas?

I am running iPhoto 09 v8.1.2 and w/c 18th Nov Manage My Places/Google Search stopped working.  I have always Managed My Places with my Look Up Places Preference set to Never.  I have not updated any software in the past week.  Any ideas?

That's not my experience Larry, although I'm not an expert.  It was one of your earlier responses to someone else that made me check this preference out.  However, I've set it to automatically and google search in Manage My Places doesn't work and the "find on map" option on the photo information tab doesn't work.
What does works with it set to automatically is if I enter "Merida, Mexico" in the photo place it will list a number of towns called Merida and I can select the Mexican one.  If I enter "Calle 49, Merida, Mexico" it doesn't list anything but it does offer the "find on map" option.  If I select this it loops.
I've checked my software updates and nothing on my Mac has changed in the time between this working and ceasing to work.  I'm just trying to establish if anyone else has experienced difficulty with the google search under manage my places in iPhoto recently.

  • My upgrade of iPhoto has not worked and cannot find my photos, any advice?

    Hi there
I was trying to find out why my photostream was not working, ie I could not see images taken on my iphone 4S on my macbook. I looked into it and it seems my iphoto was an old version so I needed to upgrae it via the App Store (cost me around GBP 10.00) I followed all the instructions but the new version of iphoto does not seem to have located my images and I get the whirling circle in the centre of the screen (as it if it is waiting to do soemthing). This has gon on for days. I have shut down and restarted but nothing has happend. I am am sure my photos must still be on my Macbook but I cannot see them.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
    Kind Regards

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • My iPhoto has never worked on my recently purchased macbookair!

I recently purchased a Macbook Air from Amazon and although I like the laptop I have found a few issues . The biggest problem is that I get an error message whenever I try to load the iphoto app. The error message says "application has quit unexpectedly " . I have tried to reload the App and it doesnt change anything .

If you hold down the option key on your keyboard when you start iPhoto and select Create New in the dialog box that comes up, does iPhoto start up normally? (Don't worry that your pictures will not appear, they are still in the old library.)

  • My iphoto has stopped working for no reason

I did a clean up on my macbook. Some reason, it affected iphoto, but I did not delete anything that was involving with iphoto! I have tried every cd I have got to set it up again, but no use When I open iphoto, a white wheel whose lines are going round round and round, as it is loading up, but no use again! It has all of my pictures in it..my photos are on the computer thankfully!
    Any suggestions?
    Much appreciated

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • Iphoto has stopped working.Help me with any possible ideas please..

I have a 9.1.3 version of iphoto'11 on macbook pro with Mac OS X 10.6.6. I can get the application to open but it does not upload and keeps showing the circular 'in process' sign on the iphoto page continuously. Please

You might consider updating the app and your OS. The latest version of 10.6 is 10.6.8 and the latest version of iPhoto that will run on that is 9.2.3
    Other than that:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)

On my MacBookPro, I am trying to load and access my photos taken on my iPhone 5 via the USB2 cable.
It says it's importing the images into iPhoto. It seems to have loaded them, & I am told, 80+mb of images now reside within iPhoto, but I can't access them which ever way I try.

  • Downloading new photos - iPhoto doesn't work after upgrading to Yosemite

    Hello,
Since I upgraded to Yosemite, iPhoto has stooped working after downloading photos from my Sd card.
Some picutres downloaded are black while some others are ok, but in any case I have to restart my iMac because every apps running can't be used anymore.
That happens only with iPhoto, after downloading, instead normally it works.
Now I use Aperture and everything is fine but I'd like to figure out why iPhoto acts like that.
Do I have to trash it?
    Thank you.
    Fabrizio

There have been a number of reports on here from folks with Raw issues after updating.
    This thread:
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)
explains how to delete and reinstall Raw support. It has worked for others.

Try first to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • IPhoto Paste not working

The paste function on my iPhoto has stopped working. The paste function works on the rest of my computer but when I try to copy and paste within iPhoto it just doesn't want to work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

I have been using iPhoto for about six years and have always used the cut/copy paste function to move photos between events. It has just suddnley stopped working out of no where.
I appreciate the way you have suggested but it seems a little more work and complication then a simple copy/paste
    Thanks,

"Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"
    Offered solution doesn't work:
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
I can't download photographs from my iphone or my digital camera.
Any ideas on how I can solve this problem?
There is a possibility that when I went to update applications that I started to install Mavericks which I then interrupted and cancelled. I am not definite that this caused this problem but it was at about the same time as when this problem started.
    Many thanks,
    Ed

You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
