IPhoto help to get my pictures

So I have an iPad from work, which I sync to iPhoto 2011 on a MacBook Pro.
But soon that iPad and maybe MacBook will go away, hopefully to be replaced.
Sooooo...how can I get my pictures out of there?
There are 2 dimensions to this:
1) How to copy the iPhoto library so it could be viewed on another Mac (not as big a deal, and probably Googleable)
2) How to get my pictures the heck out of iPhoto's weird structure, for example to put into a Windoze machine or backup hard drive.
BONUS QUESTION:
I like to keep my photos in folders by date (or in the case of one of my cameras, by "rolls" which seem to represent monthly folders). Can iPhoto be set to import and leave the photos in that kind of structure?

Something not clear to me offhand-when I import, the pictures get organized by import date? Or by the date stamp on the photo files?
By default by the date the camera recorded in the EXIF data of the photo
You can change the sort under the view menu ==> sort events
I guess another issue is that one iPhoto gets pretty full, it can become really time-consuming to find something. Let's say I want to find vacation pictures from 2006. In a folder structure I can just open folder "2006" and then "vacation"-boom, presto, done. In iPhoto, it can start to take a LOT of scrolling.

There is a search window in the lower left (location depends on the version of iPhoto you have - you do not say) - where you can instantly find a photo or photos form any date or date range - much easier than digging through a bunch of nested file folders - you also can make smart albums for any date or date range so the albums look just like your file folder arrangement - and these albums can be in folders (thses a logical iPhoto folders - not physical finder folders) so you can exactly reproduce your structure in iPhoto using the database features
And far beuond your scheme with a smart album you can instantly find all of the photos from Italy reguardless of date - or the photos of your mother in Greece - or what ever other information yu assign to the photos
You do what you want - but if you spent a few minutes to learn how iPhoto works you would drop your file thoughs quickly

Image capture deleted all my photos from iPhone without transferring them to the harddisk. So now I've lost 427 photos due to some data error it says. Please help me get my pictures back!?!

I just wanted to back up my photos since I haven't done so since October 5th. I plugged in my iPhone and let Image Capture transfer the selected photos to the designated folder. Accidently I hit 'Import All but that's not the biggest problem. Apparently I had "Delete all after transfer" on AND 427 photos apparently "failed to transfer" as it said. I didn't think it was such a big problem, but then I noticed : what the ****.The delete all option was ON and now ALL my photos are gone, from the iPhone and NOT on the computer. Except a list of some old pictures I already have three backups and from the new ones between Oct 5 and this day I have a random selection >><!!!
So please help me! How do I get my pictures back? iPhone Data recovery? Please please help. There are so many nice memories of this month and I'm so ****** that this just happened!

If you have iCloud backup turned on or if you have recently backed up via iTunes you could restore the phone from either of those sources. Camera Roll photos are included in those backups. Be aware that doing a restore will replace the contents of the phone with the contents of the backup so you would lose anything new on the phone since the last backup. Why do I get duplicate pictures when I download from my iPhone to iphoto

Ever since I upgraded my iMac to Yosemite, when I sync my iPhone with my iMac and iPhoto. I get duplicate pictures in my iPhoto. I have to go in and manually delete the duplicates. Does anyone know why? Is there a setting that I can adjust so that I don't get the duplicates?

IPhone 3 I cannot get my pictures to download from iPhoto. I keep getting the error message required file cannot be found.

I cannot get my pictures to download from my iPhoto from an albumto the iPhone 3 (one of the kids phones). I was able to download an Event. I have changed the name. I have used my iPhone 4 and the pictures from the album downloaded just fine. I have looked at the message board and I have deleted the cache and done all the things that were suggested. WHAT IS THE DEAL!! I have been working on my phone and the kids phones for about five hours now and super frustrated!!!

I used Terminal to change the permissions on the folder in question. I followed the instructions in this article:
iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
In my case, the folder was there, so I needed the command to change permissions on the folder, not to create one. I was hesitant to use Terminal b/c I know that if I made an error I could wipe out my hard drive or render my computer unusable. So to be SURE I didn't make an error, I carefully copied the command from that page and *pasted* it into Terminal. Also, before I could do anything in Terminal, I had to go change my admin password (it had been a blank password before and that's not acceptable for making changes in Terminal). I was just super careful when entering my password or doing anything else while Terminal was open (making sure I didn't accidently hit the spacebar or another key, etc.) And it fixed the problem right away.
What was confusing for me was that the iTunes error message said to change permissions in the FINDER, which is what I was trying to do. It didn't mention Terminal. What would really be helpful is if Apple included a link to a page like this in their error message.

IPhoto update from Mavericks deleted my library. How can I get my pictures back?

Soo my iPhoto just decided not to find my photo library anymore.
When I open iPhoto, it only opens a windwo where I can decide which library I want to open, but gives me no choices, the list is empty. Normally this window opens when my external HD is connected to my macbook since then there's two iPhotos available, but now it just doesnt find even one.
I had another problem with the iPhoto on my external HD, i wanted to open it but a window opened to tell me that my library is used by another programm or that the library can't be read anymore. I was able to save those pictures by showing the contents and copying the pictures.
Buuuut now on the macbook, when I do the left click thing to open the contents of the package, there are no pictures in it at all, no folder has pictures in it. When I copy the version from time machine, nothing changes. iPhoto has a size of 1.7 Gb, which is way to small. God dammit.
How can I get my pictures back?

Okay, so here the details:
iPhoto Version 9.5.1
OS X Version 10.9.1
So here what I did, detailed. (pardon my english, I'm swiss)
I downloaded Mavericks, few days later updated iPhoto (the iPhoto icon was orange before and turned blue after the update). All went well, until one month later, all of a sudden, I was not able to open my iPhoto on the external harddisk. A window opened to tell me that either my library is being used by another programm or that it can't be read anymore. To solve this problem iPhoto tells me to do several things, for example shut down the computer and then open iPhoto again, or set up my library again or open iPhoto by pressing command and alt. But non of those instructions helped. So I opened the contents, I looked for the folder with the masters of my pictures and copied the whole thing onto another harddisk.
I think I got those Pics saved, but I still can't open iPhoto on the external harddisk.
Oh and by the way, the iPhoto icon on my external harddisk looks different now, it's three pictures in a row and the one on top shows a redish flower.
So now, two days later I try to open the iPhoto on my regular macbook. A window pops up and says that I have to choose a library that I want to open. (iPhoto usually did that when I had my external harddisk connected since there were two different librarys then, one on my external, one on my computer) But now, instead of showing me the library's I can choose from it only shows nothing, no list or anything i could even choose. And then below there's this button that says something like "create a new library".
So what I did:
I open the contents and looked for the masters of my pictures, but there weren't any pictures at all. The iPhoto has a size of 1.7 GB which I think is too small for all the Pics and videos i stored in there.
I tried to get the IPhoto from Time Machine, but nothing changed. Iphoto still's 1.7 GB.
I opened the file "Pictures" in the Finder, but there's no such file like "iPhoto library", like it's deleted or something like that.
So i think that I used iPhoto usually, nothing speciall. I imported Pictures from my iPhone or camera and left them there.

Hello, I have a Macbook Air and 3 days ago, I had a "crucial update" on my computer but accepted it before looking at what it was for. When my computer auto restarted, my iphoto library was completely gone. Does anyone know how this could have happened?
I have the OS X 10.7.5 and iphoto 9.2.3... The update that I did may have been the Os X 10.7.5 but I did not look at what the update was being quickly clicking the accept button.
Unfortunately, I do not think that my pictures were backed up on the "time machine application". Any help would be great for how I can get my pictures back.

You should have been syncing all of this to your computer regularly.
Just sync it back.

How do I get my pictures into a calendar on iPhoto

I made 2 calendars in iphoto and they came out beautiful. Trying to make another one, and I can't remember how to get my pictures onto the calendar.
Right now tthe pics I want to use are in a folder on my desktop. Hope someone can help me.

What is your iPhoto version?
In iPhoto '11 you would
import the photos into iPhoto by dragging the folder with the photos onto the iPhoto icon,
Select the imported photos in the "Last Import" event,
Select File > New Calendar from the file menu and proceed to arrange the photos to the calendat pages.
You need iPhoto '09 or later to be able to order a Calendar from the Print Products store.

I accidentally ran iPhoto Library Upgrader on my Picture folder and now I have to right click on it to "show contents" instead of looking at it in Finder. Help!

My current "iPhoto Library" file is OK (I can open it with iPhoto), however I cannot access the old one from iPhoto 6 titled Library.iPhoto

I think how you understand the value of having backups. All you can do is:
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.
You will need an external enclosure for the old drive so you can connect it to the computer in order to try the recovery software before you buy it. But if they don't work then you will need to send the drive to a recovery service such as Drive Savers.

You should be able to accept this message, it will cause existing music, photos (not camera roll) and videos (also excluding those in camera roll) to be removed and replaced with those from this computer. All other user data on the iPad will be unaffected.

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

I think the warning is very clear.
What warning? Where do you say that this plan you suggest will lose at least some, and possibly a whole lot of metadata, plus the original files of edited photos. This is significant dataloss. And you should warn people that this is the case.
While your metadata and originals may not be important to you, that is not necessarily the case for other users.
Fourthly, and last, cleaning the iPhoto library should be done at least once per year
This is nonsense. The iPhoto Library has no need of "cleaning" and certainly not in any way that trashes a whole lot of data.
I'm very impressed that you assess the application based on the sound of the name. It's not a common way to review applications, but I'm sure it has some merit.
FWIW it has been recommended on this - and other - sites for many years and has proven safe and effective.
