IPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug

_*iPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug*_
iPhoto 08 contains a bug affecting the display of images that the user has marked as "hidden." Specifically, when the user toggles the View-Hidden Photos menu option, the Library-Events thumbnail view does not refresh quickly or reliably to show or hide Events containing "hidden photos."
Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain visible when they should be hidden.
Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain INvisible when they should be visible.
This affects the Event thumbnail "key photo" if this photo was designated as hidden.
This also affects any hidden Event photos when the user "skims" over an Event thumbnail to preview its contents.
The issue is isolated to Events thumbnails. The problem does not exist:
a) while browsing thumbnails inside a specific Event.
b) while browsing photos in Library-Photos.
c) while browsing photos in an Album.
_*"Fixes" that do NOT work:*_
Software updates... I have the latest version of OSX 10.5.2 and the latest version of iPhoto 08, including all the recent security and graphics system updates as of 02/16/2008.
Maintenance... The issue is NOT resolved by rebuilding the database, rebuilding icons, or deleting the iPhoto preferences file. The issue can be reproduced in a separate user account after creating a new event in an otherwise empty iPhoto database.
After much tinkering around, the following is the closest I've come to a
_*TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:*_
To *NOT DISPLAY* hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos *is not* checked. Restart iPhoto, and the hidden images should now be invisible.
To DISPLAY hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos is checked. While the hidden images are now visible elsewhere, they may still be invisible in Events thumbnails, so restart iPhoto, and then wait about 10 seconds for the Events view to refresh with all the hidden thumbnail images now visible.
If after carefully reading this you feel you have a definitive solution, please post a reply with your suggestions. Otherwise, please post to confirm if you can reproduce the problem on your computer running iPhoto 08 on Leopard. If so, please also file an official bug report with Apple. The more people report this, the faster we'll get it fix.
.

My Acrobat Pro 9 has also this bug. I am using XP SP2. I have reported this bug at Adobe web site many times. I wrote to the Adobe customer care. I wrote about this on many different forums and I was hopping an update with this bug fixed. I installed all updates till now bu the problem still exists. I do not know why Adobe is not caring about this stupid bug. It is really, really annoying. In my experience with Adobe Acrobat for about 10 years, Acrobat version 9 is the worst version I ever worked with. There are a lot of glitches and bugs in it, expecially with fonts, web version creation, password protection encryption etc etc.
If you find any fix please post back on this forum.
Many thanks,

  • Scrolling through photos, restarting iPhoto: "Hidden Photos" are unhidden!

    Hi,
As you may know, iPhoto has this great feature where you can mouse over an Event to scroll through the photos in it. iPhoto also has another great feature - the possibility to hide photos!
However, here's when they both went wrong: I had a few Hidden Photos in an event, yet when I moused over it - they showed up! Just makes them not so hidden...
Also, when I last closed iPhoto, Hidden Photos were checked to show. As I opened iPhoto up again - they were still unhidden. It would be nice if they automatically hid themselves upon closing. Is there an Apple Script available for this?
In the same scenario, I hid the photos manually. And as I opened up a photo in an event up full screen, and browsed through the event using the arrow keys - a hidden photo appeared! This, as I understand - is a bug. Where would I report this?
    I hope you can help!
    Thank you for your time,
    Rudi

First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Then rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photo events thumbnails bug

I really want to fix this as it is bugging me. If you have any ides please let me know.

Mine too. Anyone have a clue how to fix this?

  • Does Time Machine fully backup iPhoto 09 photos, events, faces, etc.? Mtn Lion

I'm going to the Apple store this afternoon. I believe I'll end up reinstalling the system and need to be sure everything is backed up.
Problem is iPhoto 09 (yep, I have an OLD version).  It's going nuts - making sounds like a fast, loud, constant drumbeat, flashing, won't let me do anything except force quit.
I backup to Time Machine /external drive automatically and it seems to be backing up iPhoto.  I don't want to open the iPhoto program from Time Machine to check since I'm afraid it might be something in the computer that could screw it up. I have thousands of phtoos in iPhoto and don't want to lose them.
Since the external drive I'm using wth Time Machine shows a backup today including iPhoto, should I feel comfortable that iPhoto is backed up appropriately, or do I need to back it up in some other way?

Besides Time Machine, you could use a cloning program.
    Clone  - Carbon Copy Cloner
    Clone  - SuperDuper

  • Viewing imported hidden iPhoto Library photos in Aperture

I recently downloaded the trial version of Aperture and imported my iPhoto library. When I did that, hidden photos/events (marked as hidden in iPhoto) were not visible in Aperture. There is a "place-holder" with the original iPhoto event names for the now Aperture projects, but no photos are visible and I can't find a way to unhide them.
I have since purchased and registered Aperture, but this problem persists. Does anyone know how I can make these hidden files visible in Aperture?

In the top right corner of the browser is a search box. By default it is set to show unrated or better images. If you click the triangle beside the magnifying glass you'll get a drop down. One of the choices is *Show All*. Select that . You're hidden images should appear.

  • IPhoto Hidden Pictures to Aperture

In transferring from iPhoto to Aperture hidden photos appear open in Library Photos with the label "X" and "iPhoto Hidden" but they are not included in the event. Is there an easy way to hide pictures, and unhide them, in Aperture? How can you get the photos into their proper events? How do you hide in Library Photos?

I came across this and it took a bit of fiddling to work it out.
Aperture uses rejects, instead of hidden photos. iPhoto hidden photos are automatically set as rejects during import - they are still in the events (projects in Aperture). To make them visible you need to click on the little magnifying button near the top right of the screen (under Faces) and move the rating slider down a notch.

  • Why do hidden photos still show up in 'all photos'?

I have been using Photos for a couple days now and I have noticed that when I hide a photo it gets hidden from 'moments', 'collections' and 'years' but not from 'All photos' under albums. Its frustrating since there is a specific folder under albums (that you can also hide from view) called 'hidden photos'. Why go through all that trouble of creating a 'hidden photos' album, that can be hidden from your folder list, to still allow all the hidden photos to be displayed under 'all photos' under albums? Seems to defeat the purpose.
Am I the only one that is having this issue?

I'm afraid that hidden photos do not work the same way that they did in iPhoto."All photos" is intended to include hidden photos. Hidden photos are only hidden from moments and collections.

  • Photo Events on iPhone

My photo events are displayed with the newest at the bottom. How do I change this so my most recent events appear at the top?

You will need a third party app for this.
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31722/iexplorer is one such but there are many others. Search on
    MacUpdate
Note that photos synced to iOS devices are optimised for these devices and will be smaller and missing metadata.

I've tried rebuilding the thumbnail database, but that hasn't helped.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?
Try moving the Zoom slider at the bottom of the iPhoto window all the way to the left.  Does that let more than one photo display in the window?

  • After installing new HDD, some iPhoto Events/Photos won't display

Problem: I upgraded to 1TB HDD a couple of days ago and tried to use the System Restore from Backup under Disk Utility. It never worked, got to a blue screen and just hung. So I reloaded Snow Leopard and then used Setup Assistant to move Apps/Files/Settings from my Time Machine Backup.
Today I was going through files to see if anything was missing and found a number of Events from 2010 that wouldn't display in iPhoto '08, just dark squares but with the event name underneath.
Rolling the mouse over the empty square displayed the correct number of photos for the event but photos wouldn't display.
Next I "Browsed" the Time Machine Backup (from iPhoto) and the same Events were also empty on Time Machine Backups.
The funny thing is the empty events are scattered meaning I have a full Events from Feb and March 2010 but empty events from Jan, Feb and May 2010. And then when I go into the Empty Events on Time Machine, I can call up the photo number but the photo won't display.
Is there a way to recover these photos? I'm pretty sure there on the TM backup and also on my new HDD.
As a "suspenders/belt" type person, I have the photos backed up on a Windows PC but rather work through this problem first.
iMac 20" 2.4 Ghz Mac OS X (10.6.4) AEBSn AXg

You can enter TM while in iPhoto and do a search for some of the missing photos by file name. When you find a version that appears to have them in exit TM, go to your Pictures folder, reenter TM, go to that version and restore the entire library. I'd keep both your current library and the restored. Then you can check to see if the missing photos are in the restored library.
If neither library have all of the photos but do combined you can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new 3rd library setting the option to not import duplicates. That should get you a complete library.

There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. • Photo Event/Album Thumbnail not Synched with iPhoto

    Hi and tnxs for reading.
Is there a way to sync my iPhoto Album/Event Thumbnails with my iOS devices? I am noticing that on them, only the first photos are used as thumbnails.
    Tnxs, cheers

    1) why is this not an automatic feature? I mean, do I have to manually trash that folder every time I do modifications and need to sync them or is it supposed to autoupdate automatically sometimes?
You shouldn't have to. This should update automaically.
I see that my thumbnails are not synched aswell. In iPhoto Events/Albums I can select a thumbnail. However, on my iOS devices photo library, the thumbnail is the first photo of the Event/Album. Any chance to syncautomatically the same thumbnail I have in iPhoto
I have no idea. I'd ask that on a forum for your Phone/Pad/Pod...

BAckup your iPhoto library, depress and hold the option and command keys while launching iPhoto until the first aid window comes up and repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Iphoto photos will not display in iworks

I have a new Macbook Pro with ILife with Imovie 8 and Iphoto 8. Some photos that I just scanned and imported to iphoto after using an Epson Photo Perfection scanner, will not display in imovie. They were saved in jpeg format and appear fine in my iphoto files. I have even made changes to them in iphoto and saved them to see if that helped, but they still won't display in imovie. The only problem similar to this that I could find in the discussions is when the photos are saved in RAW format. These are not. Any ideas?

Some photos that I just scanned and imported to iphoto after using an Epson Photo Perfection scanner, will not display in imovie. They were saved in jpeg format and appear fine in my iphoto files.
Try dropping one of the files directly from the Finder to the iMovie '08 "Project" window. If the files is accepted, then you know the compression format is good and can check things like file, event, or album names that may prevent the photos from being displayed via the iMovie '08 browser. If the file is not compatible, then iMovie will not import it and you can try "re-compressing" the files in an image application to see if they will then be recognized.

  • How do I stop iphoto from creating events automatically when I import photos from an external hard drive?

IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos and when I merge events and then go to finder>all images, I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....I try to delete the extra copies but then the albums or events also get affected, even if there is one copy of each photo left in all images...have someone had this problem?

You don't have a problem at all.
IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos
This is how iPhoto works. Every photo is in an Event. Events are the basic organisation of the Library. Every import means at least one new Event. Yes you can merge Events after import and so on, but there is at least one Event created at each import.
I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....
No it hasn't. It hs created versions of the photos, not copies. There will be a couple of thumbnails  for viewing in the iPhoto Window plus the Master and then a edited version for pics that are modified. The icons for each of these may be similar but they are not copies - for a start they are different sizes - and all are required for iPhoto to work.
    go to finder>all images
Don't. This is simply a list of all the images on your computer. It makes no account or allowance for the purpose of these images. Really, if you're using iPhoto ignore this because if you
I try to delete the extra copies
Then you are trashing your Library.
So, this is how iPhoto works, there is no problem and stay away from All Images.

  • Hidden Photos Bug

I'm having a problem with hidden photos in iPhoto. I have some events where certain photos within the event are hidden, and some events in which every photo is hidden, effectively hiding the whole event. When I enable viewing of hidden photos, the photos within events with other photos show up, but not the hidden events, i.e., if I go into an event I can see the hidden photos within it but no more events show up on my events page, even though they should. If I then rehide the hidden photos and restart iPhoto, the hidden events show up on the Events page, but are empty (as all the photos inside them are hidden). However, under normal circumstances, the events themselves should not show up at all. If I enable hidden photos again, I am able to see the photos within the hidden events as I should, but there is no way to make the whole event disappear off the events page again. Basically, hidden events will not show up the first time I start iPhoto no matter how many times I toggle between showing and not showing hidden photos, and once iPhoto is restarted, the hidden events will not go away.
