Iphoto - idvd slideshow to quictime

I am new to this, but created a slide show in idvd from photos in iphoto. Now, I want to make the slide show very transportable to other computers -- both mac and windows based.
How do I do this with getting the best quality possible?
I have used dvd player on the mac and the slideshow works fine.
thanks in advance

Sadly I don't know if this is possible but I hope someone comes up with a fix. I am a great fan of the iDVD generated slideshows.

  • IPhoto/iDVD Slideshow Software Options?

I have been unhappy with the resultant quality of slideshows that I have created in iPhoto and exported ('shared') with iDVD. The iPhoto quality is outstanding but I find significant quality degradation in iDVD in terms of clarity and smoothness of Ken Burns effect motion. This poor quality carries-over to the iDVD burned DVD-R.
Does anyone have recommendations for alternate slideshow software options that produce clear, crisp and smooth motion slideshow DVDs?

Have you asked over in the iDVD forum also? Any DVD authoring program will not be as sharp as what you see in iPhoto or on your computer because all media is reduced to 720 x 540 pixels. The same goes for videos. Smaller videos are scaled up and that's where you can lose image quality.
The two links below are to Apple KB documents on preparing stills and videos for iDVD.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6732.html
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6675.html
Photo to Movie has received good reports in this forum. When using the KB effect you need to use the largest image available. Not so much with just still photos. As far as videos with motion you did use the Professional Quality setting, right?
In finishing up the iDVD project are you saving it as a disk image first? Then you can check the encoding by playing it with DVD Player before burning. Burn to disc with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IPhoto/iDVD Slideshow 16:9 Problem

I recently created a slideshow using 16:9 photos. I set ALL the slideshow options to 16:9 as well. My finished product is a 4:3 slideshow with a 16:9 menu. How can I get the actual slideshow to come out in 16:9 (the aspect ratio of all the TV's I plan on viewing it on). I've researched this topic extensively and tried everything suggested. Is it possible my 2006 Mac Book Pro is too old?

I would just use iMovie (project set to widescreen) and Share to iDVD. You can retrieve your photos from iphoto in imovie. Result will be as you've requested.

Open your iPhoto Library, go to that particular album and verify that you can view the full sized version of each image by double clicking on them.  Report back with the results.

  • Unable to import IPhoto 6 slideshows to IDVD 6

When I try to send a SLIDESHOW with captions and music prepared in iPhoto 6 to IDVD to burn to a DVD by choosing Share>Send to IDVD i get the following message "An error occured while exporting the slideshow, the export movie file could not be created". This is inconsistent with the statement in iDVD Help Tutorial "In iPhoto send SLIDESHOWS directly to iDVD to create a project with slideshow buttons". What am I doing wrong?

you may be using a file format iDVD doesn't recognize (or you may have a corrupted image/file) hard to tell without seeing what you are currently working on. try the file again, or use a different image in it's place.
if this too fails then drag and drop the plist for both apps to the trash (empty it) and restart the computer.
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Use the Finder (happy face on the dock) plus copy and paste for the above items (individually) and hit return.
In the event you see either item appear more than once, dispose of all of them.
    Good luck!

  • IDVD crash when iPhoto exports slideshow

My G5 1.8 Ghz crashes when iPhoto exports slideshow. Help!

Drag both these to the trash and restart your mac:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Then Repair Permissions from apple's disc utilities.
Run apple's software updater but do not install just yet. Just post back and let us know if apple system pref / software updater sees any required updates. (Pay close attention to QT as well).
Hope this helps but if not come on back.

  • How to create an iDVD slideshow from an iPhoto book

    Hello,
I created a book in iPhoto and would like to create a DVD of the book.  I'm using iDVD 7.1.2 and iPhoto 9.5.1.  Is this still a possibility?
    Thanks in advance
    Scott Lorigan

This tutorial should help: iP05 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book.
Follow this workflow in iDVD to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • BUG: iPhoto 9 Slideshow - Text Slide Bugs and iPhoto Library Corruption

I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issues:
I have had multiple issues with iPhoto crashing, stop responding, and database corruption where I cannot open iPhoto. These issues all began when I tried to use the new themed slideshow in iPhoto v9.1. Previously, I had only used iPhoto to create basic slideshows with iPhoto v7.x. I was hoping that I would be able to create my masterpiece in iPhoto 11 (v9.1) but I have only been frustrated by my attempts so far.
What should have been a 3 - 4 hour operation has become a 20 hour nightmare and I still don't have a slideshow to show for my efforts. This has been one of my most disappointing uses of Apple software ever.
Repeatable, reproducible bugs that I have run into include:
    1. Deleting a photo that appears in the timeline before a sub-title causes havoc with subsequent sub-titles (a.k.a. Text Slides). Subsequent subtitles are randomly copied to pictures following the one it was assigned to. Further, there is no subtitle icon in the timeline and the photos have to be manually modified to eliminate the subtitle. Work around is click the "Text Slide" button
    2. Zooming and/or image placement is not preserved and not visible when previewed, exported, or iPhoto is closed and then reopened.
    3. The iPhoto Library becomes corrupt and permissions problems prevent me from working with my photos. This happens while working on slideshow. I have had to rebuild my library and repair permissions no less than five times since I started working on my slideshow.

iPhoto's slideshow feature is fine but no tool for a "masterpiece".
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • IDVD Slideshow Question

I exported an iPhoto slideshow to iDVD. I used the Ken Burns effect. I've got around 200 photos and it plays great, no problems but....
heads have been cut off on three slides. Can I edit the individual slides right in iDVD or do I have to go back to iPhoto and then export all over again? That would be very time consuming.
    17 iMac FP 1.25GHz, & PowerPC G3   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iDVD 5, iPhoto 5

Sorry but you have to go back to iPhoto for edits. If double-clicking a slideshow just plays the slideshow and doesn't bring up the slideshow editor, the slideshow may have been created in iPhoto. Slideshows created in iPhoto are sent to iDVD as QuickTime movies, which means you can't edit them.
If you want to make a change to an iPhoto slideshow, make the changes in iPhoto, send the slideshow to iDVD again, and replace the old slideshow with the new one.
Tip: In map view, slideshows created in iPhoto have a movie icon in the upper-left corner. iDVD slideshows have a slideshow icon.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • IDVD slideshow photo resolution

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)
From previous posts, it seems that iDVD photo resolution is always less than viewing a iPhoto slideshow while in that application.
    So here is my question:
When I use the option of sharing the photos, iDVD creates a "slideshow" folder with the photos in .JPG,on the DVD. If I copy the folder to my desktop, open, then the resolution is great when viewing on my G5. So if the iDVD app and my verbatim media can create/support these images, why is the iDVD slideshow resolution so poopy?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

OK, but why so lousy even when viewing the DVD using
    my G5?
An NTSC TV set has less than 640x480 pixel
    resolution
    - you computer monitor has more than 4 times this
    resolution.
You are looking at an image with less than 640x480 pixel quality displayed on a much larger pixel count monitor.
Sorry, but what you see is what you get.
DVDs produced by iDVD are best viewed on a TV set. If you are viewing them on a computer - DO NOT set the playback display to 'Full Screen' - use 'Normal' size (which will display the video in a 640x480 window).

  • Iphoto 08 slideshow music not playing

After making a slideshow with iphoto I mixed some songs together using garageband, then exported the mixed songs to iTunes.
But when I choose that track in iTunes for my slideshow it doesn't play. I've tried a bunch of other songs they won't play either. I have done this before using iphoto 06 and didn't have any problems. But now with 08 I can't seem to get any music to play with my slideshow.
Which means no exporting to iDVD, no burning to a disk, no showing off to my friends.
Can anybody tell me what my problem is??

    soulmanbdr529:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you able to get non-Garageband mixed playlists to work in iPhoto's slideshows? If so then there's something GB is doing to the joined tracks that iPhoto doesn't like. For that you'd probably get more informed responses in the Garageband forums.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Adding/DELETING Titles & Comments to Individual Photos In An iDVD Slideshow

I am running iDVD 6.0.3 where I have 85 titled photos [selected, not imported, from Media/Photos into iDVD] already entered into an iDVD slideshow. I would like to have a title on ONLY the FIRST photo. The iDVD "Help Menu" makes it sound like this wish of mine would be possible as it states: "You don't have to include text for all the images. Only text you add will appear in your slideshow; the placeholder text will not appear."
I do know HOW to add a title and/or comment to the FIRST photo, but how do I DELETE the title and or comment from the other 84 photos? Do I have to go through each one and MANUALLY delete each title? That seems like a LOT of trouble, and perhaps I am just missing a way to do this more easily???
I know about using the gear shaped Settings feature to check "Show titles and comments", but that is where it includes the titles that are already on all of the 85 photo from when I chose them from the Media/Photos pane; unless, it seems, that I were to delete the other 84 titles and/or comments INDIVIDUALLY.

Yes, you are right, I could make a "title photo" in iPhoto from a card I could design [I do not have Photoshop Elements] and use that for the title. Thank you. It just seems like this same thing should be able to be done within iDVD itself with the way they have the directions written in the iDVD "Help Menu".
After I made my original post on this topic, I think I solved my own question using a round-about method. I had to use the "batch change" to "no title" in iPhoto BEFORE selecting my 85 photos in iDVD slideshow. That way all of the title/comment areas were blank when I brought them into iDVD, and then I could just add titles or comments to the exact individual photo of the 85 that I wanted to label. So I was able to accomplish what I wanted it to do. It just seems, however, that iDVD should have an option in iDVD to add title/comments to individual photos without having to take the titles off all of the labels ahead of time in iPhoto. If the iPhoto program can allow the titles of photos to be removed as a "batch change", it seems that iDVD should have been designed with that same feature! Or maybe I am missing something here?

  • Export iPhoto 08 slideshows to iMovie 08 in HD?

Is there any way to export a 16:9 iPhoto 08 slideshow to iMovie 08 in Hi-def? I only see a handful of standard definition export presets, and the ability to export to iDVD, but I'm wondering if there's some other way to dump the slideshow as a full 720p or 1080i clip that can be imported into an HD project.

  • IDVD slideshow intro

Looking for some info...I got the IDVD slideshow together pretty good but having trouble with the introduction. I'm trying to open the show using text with the marquis then seamlessly move into the picture show. The problem is that this isn't happening. After the marquis intro, the playback stops. Then I have to push the play button again to start the show. I can't get them to link as one continuous show.
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry iDVD doesn't let you change menu functions in that manner.....the themes are neat, but the functions are fairly preset.
The only way to avoid having to use the menu (and push play) to move to the show, it to avoid the menu altogether by using the "autoplay" part of iDVD.
You'd have to add your "marqui" to the slideshow itself........Command-option-4 might grab your marqui as a "still " as it now exists.....add it back to your iPhoto sildeshow. Then use "Send to iDVD" in iPhoto, and just close iDVD when it opens. Then create a new project in iDVD. Go to map view. Then look at your media pane, and find the movie that iPhoto ctreated from your slideshow, and drag it into the autoplay window.

  • Audio Sync Problem in iDVD slideshow

I created a slideshow in iPhoto, Version 7.1.5 and transfered it to iDVD. The slideshow contains photos and videos taken with my camera. The videos open in QuickTime, Version 7.6.2, and play with audio. The slideshow plays in iDVD without any problems. I burned a DVD and played it on our TV. The slideshow plays as it did in iDVD with one exception---the audio with the videos plays either prior or after the videos appear in the slideshow. The audio appears to be as recorded by the camera, only the sync with the video clip is off. The slideshow contains 417 slides and 12 video clips.
I created a second "trial" slideshow with a few photos and video clips. This DVD slideshow played as expected in iDVD and on our TV. So I'm suspecting the number of slides is at the source of the problem. When I finalize the slideshow it would contain about 1/2 the number of slides with about the same number of video clips.
Any suggestions on achieving audio sync with the video clips would be greatly appreciated.
    Royal

    Hi Royal
To answer your question directly, the DVD standard is 99 chapters. iDVD works around this limitation by resetting chapter 100 and starting over at 1 again.
You can always create your slideshow in iPhoto, iMovie or a 3rd party slideshow app like PhotoPresenter, Fotomagico, etc. or save it as a QT movie file and add the movie file to an iDVD slideshow.
Here's a good link that OT has set up as a good example while using PhotoPresenter:
    http://web.me.com/toad.hall/Demo3/PhotoPresenterThemes.html
Like I mentioned above, there are a number of third party apps that work just as well if you search this forum for additional examples.
Hope this helps but if not jusrt come on back.
