IPhoto & iLife

My pictures and albums in iPhoto are not appearing in other iLife apps. iDVD, iMovie and iTunes don't see it. I went through all the steps listed at this Apple support page here and still nothing:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1192
Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
I'm working with all the versions of these apps just short of iLife '09:
iPhoto 5.0.4
iMovie 5.0.2
iDVD 5.0.1
iTunes 9.1
My Mac OS is 10.4.11.

Just FYI, I wrote a program that allows you to use Aperture + iLife together. It's called Aperture2iLife, and you can buy it for $19.99 at http://lightboxsoftware.com/aperture/ (yes, I do benefit financially if you follow this link and purchase it, etc., etc.). I'll be posting an update in the next couple of days (free to anyone who's purchased Aperture2iLife) that provides complete compatibility with the Intel version of Aperture. I hope that solves your dilema, and let me know if you have any problems with it!

  • My Macbook Pro 5.5 was slow.  I backed up word and  my photos and wiped it clean.  I reinstalled  Snow leopard but my IPHOTO ILIFE is missing.  I transferred word documents over and photo library but can't find IPHOTO anywhere.  How do i get it back?

    Hi All,
I have a Macbook Pro, 5,5.  It's a few years old and was running slow.  My son backed up my Microsoft Office documents and my photos onto a thumb drive and ran 'wiped my computer clean'...using a disc that came with my computer.  (I am NOT computer savy at all).
I was able to reinstall the Mac OS X install DVD that came with my Mac, but IPHOTO, ILIFE did not reinstall.  I transferred the word documents successfully, and my photos transferred to an icon on a 'library' on the desktop, but I can't use.  How do i get IPHOTO back?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for responding.  I will look for the other disks.
One more question - I initially decided to do this because my Mac kept opening with the date changed to 2008, and I keep having to re - enter my Web key.  In addition, it was running much slower.  Since I 'cleaned' everything out, I thought all would work perfect.  This morning, the date changed to 2008; again AND it again asks for my Web key.  Does this mean my Mac has reached it's almost end or could I have a 'bug' on it?
Again, thanks so much for your suggestions.

  • Canon G11 iPhoto/iLife/OS system requirements

    Hi,
I am running Leopard 10.5.8 with iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. My new Canon G11 can export into iPhoto, but photos cannot be stored or emailed in high-rez. Do I need newer versions of iPhoto/iLife/OS? Does anyone out there use a G11?
    Thanks,
    Neil

    Re: Fie size in Mail:
Have you checked the Size setting in Mail?
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
But do be aware that "Full Size" refers to the pixel dimensions of the image (length by breadth) not necessarily the file size in MB. For that, export the pic from iPhoto (File -> Export, Kind: Original) and attach that.
Also, some images in iPhoto, when double-clicked, turn blank instead of expanding to fill the pane.
The Black Screen issue tunes up for a number of possible reasons: start with the easy fix: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. include the option to check and repair library permissions.

  • Iphoto (ilife 11) freezes every time I try to use it--can't figure out why

I've been using iphoto (ilife 11) for quite some time.  all of suden it freezes right after I boot it up & I can't do a thing.???

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Compatibility Panasonic Lumix series with iPhoto iLife 9.1.5 Mac OS X 10.6.8

Recently updated iMac to 10.6..8 from 10.4. Installed iLife 11. Mac has been running great until about a few days ago. I recently ran a software update for iPhoto from 9.1 to 9.1.5. Since then I have not been able to import photos from a Panasonic Lumix. I have also used a Cannon PowerShot with no issues. Any ideas?

That does sound like a directory issue on the Card. I would bring it to any machine you can to get the data off, then reformat.

  • IPhoto / iLife / Aperture integration

I share a Mac with my wife. She likes iPhoto and I use Aperture.
So I imported all of our photos into Aperture, and that is where the fun begins. Twice as much disk space used (I have a MacBook Pro, so HDD space is not exactly abundant here). No integration with iLife apart from exporting all images and reimporting into iPhoto. And attaching different digital cameras - only one choice of program to connect to.
Ideally I'd like to only import RAW files from my DSLR into Aperture, and jpegs from the PAS into iPhoto. I'd also like iPhoto to have jpegs 'on the fly' of my Aperture library.
Oh, and by the way, I'd also like my wife and I to have a shared photo album that we can both contribute to non-destructively on the same machine.
Impossible? Probably ... any ideas? (keep praying ?)
I also have a gripe with programs that store data in their own proprietary format/database structure - mostly this happens for performance reasons - although this program seems to defy that particular notion.
I don't know if there is any integration between the other professional applications and the iLife suite - but I'm still struggling with 'do I create a scheduled automator job to copy pictures from Aperture to iPhoto and vice versa' (and the pain this will undoubtedbly bring me).
I guess that's a bit of a ramble, and my questions are - does anyone have a decent way to share Photo Albums on the same machine? and between Aperture and iPhoto? and finally do you think that Pro applications like Aperture should have iLife integration?

  • Installing iPhoto/iLife

I would like to upgrade iPhoto, which is installed in my iMac (Mac OS X 10.4.11/iPhoto 6 v. 6.0.6).
I have some discs, which came with my MacBook (Mac OS X 10.5.6/iPhoto '08 v. 7.1.5.). These discs include the latest iLife (which, in turn, should include the latest iPhoto).
    1. Can I install iLifein my iMac even if the Mac OS X is different (10.4.11 vs. 10.5.6.)?
    2. Can I install iLife in my iMac without losing the pictures, which are stored in my iMac?

Yes but not from your MB disks - they are specific to the system they came with and the iLife '08 license for the MB is only for the MS - it does not include additional installations. You need to purchase an iLife '08 package (possibly on E-Bay)
    2. Can I install iLife in my iMac without losing the pictures, which are stored in my iMac?
Yes - the application and the library are separate - but you must backup prior to upgrading as always - things do happen

  • Unable to Register Iphoto/ilife )8

Hi I have purchased I-life 08 and have installed the suite of programmes but im unable to register the product - it keeps saying that my ID is incorrect. I have checked my login and it is correct but im still unable to register the product - can you help.

    Cooperd:
The ID for the iLife 08 package is the product number for the item: MB015Z/A. It's not required to register it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Opening iphoto (iLife '09)

I have a new Mac Pro laptop which came with iLife '09 installed. At the Genius Bar I had my photos transferred from my old Mac iphoto folder to this new computer. When I try to open iphoto on the new computer it says "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iphoto." When I press the "upgrade" button the upgrade begins but then does not compete. When I force quit it says that iphoto is not responding. What can I do?

Sounds like the db is damaged or contains damaged files.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Student or military discount for cheap iPhoto / iLife?

Is there a student or military discount for iphoto or ilife? if not, where can I get them cheaper than $15 each? $15 is like 2-3 hours of babysitting money D: Cant wait till graduation heh

My next question is where did you buy the refurbished MacBook?
If you check in the refurbished Mac section of the refurbished Apple Store all refurbished Macs are supposed to come with both OS X and the iLife apps. So if you bought it from Apple go back and ask the store to assist you in getting the iLife apps that you were supposed to receive installed.
If you bought a refurbished Mac from someone else, then you will have to take that up with the vender. Or break out the babysitting money to get iPhoto.

  • Where is iPhoto & iLife?

I just bought Leopard and upgraded my OS X10.3.9 to the latest and greatest.
I was under the understanding that iPhoto and iLife came with Leopard. Am I wrong?
I do not see it on my dock and I do not see it in the Applications folder either.
I see iCal, iChat, iDVD, iMovie, iSync and iWork, but no iPhoto or iLife. I also see Photo Booth.
    Ideas?

I was under the understanding that iPhoto and iLife came with Leopard. Am I wrong?
I'm afraid you are wrong. iLife is not part of the Operating System. To upgrade requires a separate purchase. You can, however, re-install the version of iPhoto that came with your computer. It's on the System Restore disks. Choose to install the 'Bundled Applications Onlt'. However, remember that versions of iPhoto earlier than v2 are not supported on 10.5

I would like use it, but now it is impossible. I read on this forum something about fisrt owner and his acount, could anyone write m how can I fix it?
    Thx
    New apple user Zdenek
    Macbook air is awesome

well I can. I send message about this issue, and they want from me apple ID, serial number of mac, name of apps to update.
After that they found out the problem and fix it, I received this messege:
some adjustments have been made and you should not be able to accept and install the updates to the iLife apps.  To install updates for the preinstalled software, you will need to sign in to the Mac App Store with your Apple ID and then accept the purchases:
    1) Open the App Store application.
    2) Click on the Store menu.
    3) If you are not signed in to the App Store with your Apple ID, you will see a "Sign In…" option.
    4) Click on the Purchased tab.
    5) You should see a message "You Have 3 Apps to Accept". Click "Accept" next to the iLife apps (iPhoto/iMovie/Garageband).

  • Go Back to iPhoto (iLife) 06 after upgrading to iLife 08

I upgraded and while using iphoto it crashed and i now cannot open iphoto. I have recovered my original photo folder onto dvd and i want to reinstall iLife 06. I followed details in this forum 1-deleted the iLife apps from the apps folder, 2-checked the hd/lib/receipts and there were none to delete and 3-deleted hd/lib/prefs com.appl.iphoto.plst file. However when i insert the ilife 06 disc and click custom install only iphoto is greyed out. I have not yet deleted the ilife 08 iphoto library that is corrupted.
    Please help.

What solutions have you tried to get iPhoto 8 working?
Since you have a copy of your V6 library I suggest you try the following:
1 - put the V6 library in your Pictures folder as the only library.
2 - download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
3 - launch iPhoto 08 and convert the library.
If iPhoto is crashing boot into Safe Mode and try. If iPhoto doesn't crash then your account is the culprit. It could be another bad preference file. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
