IPhoto image deleted after rendering

I've just upgraded to iMovie HD 6.03. I have the latest version of Quicktime installed and the latest version of OSX installed.
When importing a photo from iPhoto into iMovie - using the Ken Burns effect - the photo goes black after rendering. Non-Ken Burns version goes to iMovie trash.
I've deleted the preferences file, ran disk permissions utilities and it still doesn't work. I get no errors related to graphics cards. This capability worked fine in prior versions of iMovie.
Any additional suggestions?
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   768MB SDRAM

It's a bug. As you say, when we import a photo with the Ken Burn checkbox ON, iMovie puts its copy of the source image in the iMovie Trash. If we empty the Trash the image is discarded, making it impossible to Update the clip later.

  • IPhoto image loss after editing in Library

Apologies for posting question here. There was no post message button in the iPhoto discussion page. I've edited about 2 dozen images in the iPhoto Photolibrary itself. Now I know not to do that, but in the meantime I'm trying to recover lost images apparently damaged in the editing. I may have reached a memory threshold, but there was no warning. The editor indicated after each change and shift to another image that the previous changes were being saved. Not so. The thumbs for these images in the browse bar first indicated the changes I had made, but then changed back to their original orientations after a second or so. The images themselves couldn't be opened to edit. Couldn't revert to originals either. Indeed, the originals seem to have been lost in the process. Backed up the files to DVD disk and rebuilt the library (iPhoto 5.03 or .04, I think) by reopening with Command+Option held down. Now the problem thumbs have also disappeared. Is there any way to recover these images? Thanks.

  • Image distorting after rendering..?

Hello, I am fairly new to AE so any help would be grateful!
The issue I am having is that I have created a comp with 2 PNG files in it. These PNG's are setup in a 3d format so I can pan and zoom from one over to the other then scroll past the image until it leaves the screen...During the preview if the comp it looks great.  I then put the comp into my main and previewed it from there...it still looks great.  The problem arrises when I Render the movie out.  No matter what I do, that particular comp looks horrible.  I can't even read the words on one of my images it's so distorted.
So this leads me to believe that I'm missing an output option for rendering.  I have tried rendering as AVI, MPG2, H264, etc. tried even rendering with lower and upper fields first..I have also selected the options on the comp to "preserve resolution when nested" (which helped out in how it looked for the preview but not the render).
I have been searching the web for the last 2 hours trying to find an answer and I still come up with nothing.
    Here's an example:
    Preview from RAM:
    And final movie render:
THis has got to be an easy fix....
    EDIT::::::::
I have now even changed the image from a .PNG over to a .TIF with no compression...And there is no change in the distortion, it's still messed up.

I have used VLC, Windows Media Player, Quicktime and even Winamp...all of which look horrible.
The image from above was taken with VLC.
Even while previewing the render that image looks terrible.
    EDIT::::::
Could the distortion have to do with the image size itself?
The resolution of the image direct from photoshop is  1296x3758...
what I have noticed is that if I drop the resolution size down to 1097x886 (random size test), There is NO distortion and the image is perfect...
This doesn't help me though as I need an image large enough to scroll through and would rather not have to attach multiple images together using AE..

  • IPhoto Album deletion after FB upload????

    Hello,
I am new to macs and iPhoto, so please bear with me as I explain what I'm trying to do. I load all of my pics into Aperture, either from a camera, or external hard drive. That is where the "master" versions of all my photos live. I have uploaded some pics to Facebook from iPhoto. To do this, I create a new album in iPhoto, and import the pics from their respective location in Aperture. I then do whatever edits I feel necessary in iPhoto, and then upload them to Facebook, which creates another album under the Facebook heading on the left side of iPhoto-it has a listing of all of my Facebook albums here. I would like to delete the album I created in iPhoto-the one I originally imported the photos to-mainly to free up space and decrease clutter. I tried to do this by dragging the album to the iPhoto trash, but it deleted both the original album I created AND the Facebook album which was created by iPhoto!!!! My question is, how can I just get rid of the album I create but keep the Facebook album???? I have read all the help topics to no avail. Also, tonight when I was getting ready to import a new album, I opened iPhoto like normal. When I clicked on one of the Facebook albums(just to make sure it was still there), I got a spinning arrow wheel(like faces always does) and it said I needed to validate my login with Facebook!!!! What does this mean, and will this be a recurring problem? Is there a better way to upload my albums?? Sorry this is long but just wanted to give the whole story. Looking forward to the replies!

The iPhoto -> Facebook relationship is a synced one. So, upload an album to Facebook and it is synced with Facebook. Change the Album in iPhoto and you change the Album in Facebook. And that includes deletions.
What you need is simply an uploader. The one on Facebook, for example, will do exactly what you want.
Also, I'm not sure why you involve iPhoto in the process: this page
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/resources/plugins.html
lists plug-ins for Aperture that include one for FaceBook. Just check that it's an Uploader not a Sync agent.
Finally, if you really want to involve iPhoto in the process, then set it to run as a Referenced Library, and apart from few tiny thumbnails it will take up no space.

  • Images deleted after export (Aperture 3.4)

Exported my newly imported images using the Export Originals function in Aperture. After that, all exported images were gone from the file system (previews still showing in Aperture but the refernced files are gone, also not in the Trash, but "fully gone").

One more question - I forgot: What is your current Aperture version? Have you upgraded to Aperture 3.4? Then you may need to reinstall Aperture - see this support article:
Aperture 3.4: May quit unexpectedly on launch after updating
Not to mention that Aperture crashed in the meantime, then claimed the library is locked, I had to reboot and then to wait 30 mins for the library to be fixed as it was corrupted...
After a crash Aperture will repair the library, but it may be necessary to rebuild it is well, see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
Looked for the images with Spotlight
Did you search the entire mac from the Finder?
In the Finder, choose File > Find or press Command (⌘)-F.

  • Images kept after deletion

IPhoto 9.5.1 will keep images even after deleted AND trash is emptied.
I have Repaired the database, Rebuilt the Database and the images I can see in the master and thumbnail folders inside the actual library do not show up so they can be deleted.  They did at one time exist in the library, they were deleted and the trash emptied.  I am trying to find a way to have iPhoto clean itself.
Here are suggestions I can say I reject right now.  I will not extract all the images and import to a new library.  That is stupid since faces, locations and all organization is lost.  I take RAW and adjustments will be lost or the Raw lost.  I am looking for a apple or a representative to acknowledge a serious shortcoming in the software.  None of the tools that come in iPhoto can retrieve the images nor delete the images.  I could manually do it but this is a continual issue and a real Hard disk hog when deletion does not delete the files
Anyone found a real solution to this?

I am looking for a apple or a representative to acknowledge a serious shortcoming in the software.  None of the tools that come in iPhoto can retrieve the images nor delete the images.
This is a User-to-User forum, so it is unlikely, that Apple representatives will post here to acknowledge shortcomings of the software.
But there is a well-known problem with iPhoto's trash.
If you put too many photos into the Trash at once, the Trash cannot be emptied.
If you put  photos into the Trash and then merge the events the photos were in with other events, they will stay in the library, even after you emptied the trash.
If your iPhoto library is on an unsupported drive, it may not be possible to move the photos to the trash (a network volume or unsupported filesystem)
I think, your problem is (2). You said, that our build the library. Did you see a "recovered" items event after you rebuild the library? If yes, mot of the photos, that had not been deleted, should have been collected in that event, and you can delete them from that event.
Else try to rebuild the library with iPhotoLibrary Manager as described by Old Toad in this post:
Re: Copying saved iphoto library from external hard drive back to Macbook Pro
    The important part is:
make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.

  • Images shift after closing iphoto?

Each time that I close the book feature on iphoto- a few pictures will shift. I edited these images to the 4x3 book ratio, cropped them, save the changes and then will recenter the image- but they will still shift. It's pretty random.
I fixed these errors and then uploaded and bought two- 78 page books. I am now concerned that without seeing a final proof- other images will shift over.
How do a pre-proof the file that will be printed.
Thanks in advance for your pointers and advice! spence

    Hi spence,
Old Toad (our form guru) has a hint for finding the temporary PDF that iPhoto compiles that is uploaded to Apple.
Here's how you find the pdf file:
How to Find the iPhoto Generated PDF File:
1 - Start the ordering process and stop after the book has been assembled and you get to the Order pane where you select the cover color, copies, etc.
2 - Go to the Finder and select the Go->Go to Folder menu item (CommandShiftG).
3 - copy the following, “/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto” (for Panther the path is ‘/private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto “), and paste into the Go to Folder search box.
4 - the iPhoto folder will be brought up. In it will be the PDF file that was generated by iPhoto. You can copy it (Option-drag) to the Desktop to review and/or save.
Note: the iPhoto folder will not exist before you start the ordering process and is deleted after the order is completed or after you cancel the order and quit iPhoto.
The preceeding was developed on Tiger but should work with Panther.

  • Deleting iPhoto images

I am using iphoto 11. I have quoted my issues from a discussion in Nov 2010.
They describe exactly what I am dealing with, but I didn't see a solution.
***Yes, I emptied the iphoto trash.
After emptying the trash, I can still see the pictures by doing a search for the name of the picture (ie dsc_0127) and when I do that, I can see that the picture is still listed in a folder. User>Pictures>iPhoto Library>Originals>2010>June, 22 2010>DSC_0127***
I am using Elements 12 as an external and it can open images I have deleted from the recently used files list so I know they are somewhere and I want them off my computer never to bee seen again!!!
Can anyone tell me how to find these images another way than the first quote above. I have done searches in pictures and iphoto. I have deleted the events in iphoto and then deleted the trash and searched in them in the iphoto individual pictures.
I have both an original and modified file in the place quoted above. However, I have been told these are actually alias files and these photos are actually somewhere else.
***It is critical that you NEVER go into the iPhoto library and delete (or change) anything - doing so will corrupt your library and cause you to lose data***
I am ashamed to say I did just as the quote above says NOT to do. I did this with 2 images, then read how I may have corrupted my library.

Are you using PSE 12 from within iPhoto and the external editor?  If so then are you using is in this manner:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note 1: screenshots are from PSE 10
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Iphone/ipad video glitches after upload thru iphoto/image capture...suggestions??

iphone/ipad video glitches after upload thru iphoto/image capture...suggestions??

If the problem only appears with iPhoto then it may be due to a bad pref file for iPhoto. It could also be caused by a bad cache or log file.
There are additional ImageCapture preference files located in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Be sure to remove them also. Also remove the /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/ folder.
There are two ImageCapture cache files located in the /Library/Caches/ folder. Drag them to the Trash but do not delete them as yet.
Now restart the computer and see what happens.

  • Will iPhoto Photostream photographs delete after 1000 have been synced?

Does anyone know if the Photostream photographs added to my iPhoto library on my Mac will be automatically be deleted after 1000 have been added? Do I need to move them from the monthly Photostream event for them to be retained? At the moment I can see photographs going back to last September in the relevant Photostream events but I've not yet had 1000 photos added via Photostream. I read in a Mac magazine that you need to move them out of the Photostream event to a photographs event so that they don't get deleted. Is that right?
    Thanks
    Brian

Launch Image Capture from your applications folder, connect your phone, highlight all the pics in your camera roll you want to delete, hit the delete key.

  • I have two iPhoto Libraries now after restore.  Can I delete one?

A couple of weeks ago I had a problem with iPhoto and used the restore feature.  Now I have two folders in my Pictures section of iMac.  One folder says iPhoto and the other folder says iPhoto (original).  They both had the same pictures in them except for the new folder in which I had added pictures that I recently transferred from my camera.  I saved the extra pictures and added them to my original iPhoto folder.  Now it seems like I should delete one of the folders but I am afraid to do that.   Both folders seem to be working properly now.
At the time I had the problem I had just installed a new camera software for transferring photos.  After restoring iPhoto, I deleted that software.  I don't know if that software was the cause of the problem and I don't know if deleting the software put the original iPhoto back to normal.  But now I do have two folders that have the same pictures.  What would happen if I deleted one of the folders (probably the newest one and keep the original)?  Would I create yet another problem?

Yes - you can delete one - but before emptying the trash fully tes tthe remaining one to be sure it is what you want

  • IPhoto images missing in Edit window after importing iPhoto albums folder

A friend of mine with new macbook tried to import her iPhoto images from an external hardrive. She move it to her user photo album and then i believe she tried to point to it after launching iphoto. She told me there were some options windows popping up and she does not remember what they said but the current result is that many of her photos do not appear when she clicks on the thumb nails to edit them: said there is a grey field with a questin mark.
My thought was to somehow repoint to the file or dump the .plst file.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    todd

    Todd
The question mark shows up when the link between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window loses the location of the file it points to.
The most common cause of this is User activity in the iPhoto Library Folder. It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
    As your friend now sees.
Unless your friend nows exactly what changes she has made, I'm afraid the best way to fix this is to start again, importing from your originals folder.
There are comprehensive instructions for moving the iPhoto Library Folder in the Help, or if you need more you can most on here.

  • Can't delete iphoto images from hard drive

I transferred my iphoto library onto my external hard drive in order to save some space. When I moved the existing library of images to trash in iphoto it deleted it from iphoto but didn't free up any space on my hard drive. I have tried to find these images but have had no joy at all. any advice would be much appreciated.
    I have iphoto '09 and version 8.1.2 (424)

You sure you don't have more than one Library?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
