IPhoto, iMovie, iMovie HD, iTunes dissappeared
PowerBook just came back from Apple Repair--new drive installed. I upgraded OS 10.4.3 from OS10.3.2 (Apple repair installed the system). Had some issues with Airport, but fixed that. Put music into iTunes and organized it. Shut down the computer overnight. Started up the next day and iPhoto, iMovie, IMovie HD was gone from the Dock with ? in their places. Also lost all the app icons in the dock. Restored the app icons in the Dock. Checked iTunes and all the music was missing. Found the music in the Library and restored iTunes.
Computer still cannot find iPhoto, iMovie or iMovie HD. Where are the programs? What do I do?
PowerBook G4/1GHz Mac OS X (10.4.3)
Also it has three question marks, if you scroll over them it say iphoto on one, iMovie another and the last iMovie HD and it doesn't let me open them.
These dock icons (which are just aliases) have either lost the original location of the applications they refer to, or those applications are no longer installed.
I'd guess the former. Look in your Applications folder for those applications. If they are there.
1. Drag the ones on the Dock with the '?' off the Dock to remove them, and then,
2. Drag those referenced applications onto the Dock, one at a time to replace the icon with a working one.

Best way to completely share iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes between 2 users?
Hello everyone
I want to set up my new brandnew iMac (2.66 Intel Core 2) running Leopard the following way: Two accounts (for me and my wife) on the same iMac, no external drive. We want to completely share iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes libraries in a shared folder on the hard disk. That means we need full read, write and edit access to all files and subfolders in this shared folder. We will not use these libraries at the same time.
*What's the best way to do this?*
Thanks in advance for help or for pointing me to where I can find it!
Morgy
(On our old/current system (Panter), achieving this was quite tricky thing! A posting by Scott Radloff explained step by step how to use Netinfo, then Terminal and finally TinkerTool. I hope it's easier now!)Sharing the iPhoto library via the Shared Folder cannot be done in 10.5.
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

Itunes iphoto imovie all "quit unexpectedly"
Hi new MacBook Pro user so if any advice can be given in layman's terms please!
Recently found that large number of applications inc itunes, iphoto & imovie have all started to receive the following message - xxxxxx Quits Unexpectedly
I have copied the first part of the report for itunes below, similar on the other applications.
I have tried to download google chrome recently which I think was the first application which this error message appeared, similar also with msn messenger. I have deleted both of these now. Perhaps these were this original issue but not sure..
Help much appreciated as i'm completely lost with what to do!
Thanks
Adam

How do i store media (itunes, iphoto, & imovie) on external HD?
I have a 2007 imac that's HD is almost full, so....I'd like to take my old external HD that used to be the backup (using time machine), and now use it solely for all my itunes, iphoto and imovie files to edit from and playback from.
1. Do I need to erase the old backups on it or will it just write over it?
2. Do I need to partition it specifically for itunes, iphoto & imovie (three separate designated spaces for each)?
3. How do I properly move not only the main files but also the files that store the playlists(itunes), photo albums(iphoto) and events/projects (imovie) for each?
I have leopard and iLife '08 in case that matters...
Thanks!Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Please does anyone know what is wrong?
Its a PowerPc G5.
Cheers MaryOur powerbooks can not run iMovie'08. Not enough horsepower.
That is why we are offered a free download of iMovie '06.

How do I import .mov files into iPhoto, iMovie, iTunes?
This is just a hunch - are they AVCHD? What type of camera/camcorder are they from?

There are many more hits if you do a search in the forums on those.
If they are not, then post back with camera info including what it says in the specs about the file forumat it shoots video in. -
Best practices for managing Movies (iPhoto, iMovie) to IPhone
I am looking for some basic recommendations best practices on managing the syncing of movies to my iPhone. Most of my movies either come from a digital camcorder into iMovie or from a digital Camera into iPhone.
Issues:
1. If I do an export or a share from iPhoto, iMovie, or QuickTime, what formats should I select. I've seem 3gp, mv4.
2. When I add a movie to iTunes, where is it stored. I've seen some folder locations like iMovie Sharing/iTunes. Can I copy them directly there or should I always add to library in iTunes?
3. If I want to get a DVD I own into a format for the iPhone, how might I do that?
Any other recommedations on best practices are welcome.
Thanks
mek1. If you type "iphone" or "ipod" into the help feature in imovie it will tell you how.
"If you want to download and view one of your iMovie projects to your iPod or iPhone, you first need to send it to iTunes. When you send your project to iTunes, iMovie allows you to create one or more movies of different sizes, depending on the size of the original media that’s in your project. The medium-sized movie is best for viewing on your iPod or iPhone."
2. Mine appear under "movies" which is where imovie put them automatically.
3. If you mean movies purchased on DVD, then copying them is illegal and cannot be discussed here.
From the terms of use of this forum:
"Keep within the Law

Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store." -
Finding older iPhoto/iMovie for OS10.1.5
Hello,
I just crashed big time for the first time in four years and now I can't find the latest versions of iPhoto and iMovie and iTunes compatible with my OS. Can anyone help me with this?
Thank you for your time and effort on my behalf.
Ron Jaragosky<[email protected]>Thank you Mr. Toad!
I swear I had gone all the way to at least iPhoto 3.0. I seem to remember that 3.0 did not show up in the software update but rather I found it while browsing the Mac OS Software updates at Apple. It always worked fine and I thought for sure it was compatible with 10.1.5, or else I wouldn't have bothered to download it. The same is true for iTunes. I have iTunes 2.0, and iMovie 2.1.1, but I know I was higher than that. I had gone past the version of iTunes that has the little blue note in the logo and was up to about 4.something I believe. I am positive I went past iTunes 3.0, but I don't know where it is now. If it was compatible with my system I always downloaded the update of whatever it was. But I at least have iPhoto now.
Thank you for your help. If you find out any more, please lmk.

Trying to make slide show of daughter's wedding. Would like to be able to have a couple of movies also on it w/ a sound track from iTunes in the background. Ken Burns effect might be a nice touch. - Suggestions of which program would be best to use? Or a combination? Would like to be able to save to a DVD to be played on DVD player for TV use. As you can tell - a really extreme rookie here. Thanks for any insights.
~bruce. There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 8 from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

I am unable to update iphoto, imovie, and Garageband on my Macbook Pro. I understand that these apps are part of ilife suite. Purchased Macbook at Best Buy January 2012. All software is updated. I recieve message asking me to sign into account that I purchased these apps from. I am signed in , however I did not purchase these apps they came on Macbook. I also tried deleting Garageband and re-installing it. Now Garageband says accept but Macbook will not accept. Anyone else have this problem and were you able to resolve it.
The fact that they were preinstalled is why they are supposed to appear in the Purchased pane, in a temporary area labeled Purchases, for you to accept. Not doing so soon after you got the Mac has messed this process up.
To get things back on track properly try these steps;
Updating Pre-installed iLife apps -
1 - Log out and quit iTunes and the Mac App Store (MAS)
2 - Go to System Prefs/Users & Groups/~user/Password and enter the Apple ID connected to your iTunes/Mac App Store account. Close Sys Prefs
3 - Delete /Mac HD/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
4 - Reboot your Mac
5 - Open Mac App Store
6 - Go to the Purchased pane and Accept the three iLife apps. Enter iTunes/MAS username/password if prompted. -
I can't find iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie, or iWeb
I just bought a used iMac G4 with Mac OS X 10.3 Panther on it and it was used badly I gues because all this junk was loaded on it but I can't find a reason why iDVD, iPhoto, iMovie, etc. were not loaded on my Mac.
Hi,
First of all, Welcome to the Discussions Forums!
Your post sounds as if you do not have the original disks or a retail copy of Panther 10.3, correct?
The retail Panther disks do have iLife apps included. My set (retail box 10.3.2) came with iLife apps iMovie 3, iPhoto 2, iTunes 4.
When the original owner purchased the iMac G4 it would have had the apps bundled with it. If they are missing now it sounds like the owner deleted them from the disk or did not install them. Originally, I think, iDvD only came on Macs with superdrives.
If you let us know which disks you have, if any, perhaps we can let you know if you can install any of the iLife applications from them.

Actually, I upgraded to mac Osx I had iphoto, imovie, the whole work; However. After downloading Osx 10.5.8 Only I photo would word, imovie would not work, my camera was not recognized. itunes was ok, After my system start having a problem I tried to re-download Mac Osx again, then I lost Imovie, iphoto, and itunes, recently I was able to get itunes back by downloading quicktime 7.7, in which i discovered through the support communities. Now I would like to
get imove, i photo if at all possible. I've read that by installing a hex something, that it works fine. But it seems to be complicated to install. Can I get some advise on this issue foe iBook G4 10.5.8? Let me know Apples are expensive. maybe it's time for a windows system. I've also heard that the refurbished mac are a piece of trash from some reviews. You can't upgrade from Mac OS X 10.4 to Mac OS X 10.5 via a download. You would have to buy the DVD and upgrade that way.
Any applications that were using Classic emulation (OS 9 applications) in Mac OS X 10.4 would be lost in an upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5.
I've also heard that the refurbished mac are a piece of trash from some reviews.
That depends on who does the refurbishing. If you buy a refurbished Mac directly from Apple, it will be as good as a new Mac and will even have the one-year warranty that comes with a new Mac. If you buy a "refurbished" Mac from an eBay seller, all bets are off. -
Can't update software for iphoto & imovie
i keep getting notices that there are updates available for iphoto & imovie, but when i try to update, i'm told i must log in to the account i used to purchase the applciation. these programs came pre-installed on my macbook & my regular apple ID log in doesn't seem to work. anyone have a solution to this problem??
Do you have a 4G iPod? The one with the camera? If not then yo have a 2G iPod that can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
If you have a 4G, what version of iTunes dod yu have? iOS 5 requires 10.5.x. -
Since upgrading to Yosemite my iPhoto, iMovie and Garage band has simply disappeared from my Mac. HELP!?
Hi Jdireen,
As someone who uses the iLife applications on a daily basis on my Mac I can understand how it would be upsetting to have them disappear suddenly. Let's see if we can get you back up and running.
You can download the applications again and reinstall them from the Mac App Store -
