Iphoto import creating and importing duplicates/ios8

I'm using iphoto 9.4.3 and my iphone 5s with ios8.  Since septemberish (ios8 update), it's been double-importing all my pix on from my iphone - none are showing up as duplicates on the phone but import/iPhoto view shows and imports them all twice.  All images come in as img_1234 and img_1234_2 for example.
Can't figure out why this is but it's a pain - I'm using third party software to scrub duplicates from the library after the fact but is anyone else having this problem?

I've got this same problem. Didn't see this thread before I posted mine (Re: iPhoto imports 2 of every photo - iPhone 6).
I've tried:
Hard restart iPhone
Updated iPhoto (9.6)
Updated OSX (10.10)
Updated iOS (8.1.1)
Nothing has worked; I get two of every photo and video imported into iPhoto.
Has anyone else solved this issue? It's not a huge problem; more like an annoyance.

If the images are in the location you want them be sure to select "Add" at the top of the import dialog box.

  • Differ between import manager and import server

    Hi to all,
Can any one explain difference between import server and import manager and how the data will be imported to the same.
    Regards
    MM

    Hi reddy,
Can any one explain difference between import server and import manager and how the data will be imported to the same
Please follow the text below, which has been taken from the help.sap.com
Both MDIS and the MDM Import Manager can import data from a source file into an MDM repository. However, each has unique capabilities that distinguish it from the other. When each is used to its advantage, the result is an import strategy which provides the most efficient importing of data possible.
The strength of the Import Manager is its connection to the source data, which enables its interactive map-making capabilities. When the Import Manager connects to a source it preloads the entire source file, giving it knowledge of every field and every value in the source data. This u201Ctotal awarenessu201D is crucial for preparing a complete import map. To help ensure a map is complete, the Import Manageru2019s Import Status tab alerts users to any discrepancies between source data values and the current map. The user can fix these problems interactively within the Import Manager and save the corrected map before any data is imported.
Preloading an entire source file comes at a price, however. It consumes memory on the computer running the Import Manager and very large source files may exhaust the computeru2019s available memory.
By contrast, MDISu2019s strengths are its scalability and automation.
For scalability, instead of preloading the entire source file into the host machineu2019s memory as the Import Manager does, MDIS processes records in a stream by loading a record at a time into memory.
This streaming technique enables MDIS to process much larger source files than the Import Manager, as the demand for memory on the host machine is not affected by the size of the import file.
In addition to file size, file quantity poses a second scalability challenge. For example, a real-time transactional environment may produce a staggering number of files, each containing only one or two records. To import these files individually through Import Manager would be extremely inefficient. MDIS tackles this problem with a file aggregation feature that processes files systematically in batches rather than as individual files, resulting in faster, more efficient import of data.
As it relates to automation, MDIS requires no user intervention to import files to an MDM repository. Instead, it relies on maps created previously within the Import Manager. Once an import file is placed in the appropriate folder, its data is imported automatically into the MDM repository using the rules of the pre-defined import map. Once a file is processed, MDIS scans the repository for the next file to import. This process continues 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until either MDIS or MDM Server are stopped.
The trade-off for this scalability and automation is that if discrepancies between the source data and the import map arise, MDIS cannot u201Cfixu201D these problems by itself. Instead, the u201Cproblem casesu201D can be fixed manually at a later time using the interactive capabilities of the Import Manager. Unlike the Import Manager, however, MDIS can set aside problem records or files and continue importing.
These conceptual and operational differences between the Import Manager and MDIS are summarized in the table below.

  • How do I suppress messages/loading bars from Import-Module and Import-PSSession?

    Hello,
How do I suppress messages/loading bars from Import-Module and Import-PSSession?
I am writing a script that will be using these commands and it makes the script look clunky/scary to novice users.
    Thank you for your time.

Sorry to bring this back up, but it seems that the ProgressPreference worked for Exchange, but it didn't affect the Active Directory progress bar. Any ideas why?
Strange, this worked just fine for me (no module loading indication):
    PS C:\Users\mike.admin> $ProgressPreference = 'SilentlyContinue'
    PS C:\Users\mike.admin> Get-ADUser mike.admin | Select Name
    Name
    mike.admin
    Don't retire TechNet! -
(Don't give up yet - 12,950+ strong and growing)
I do run the Import-Module command inside a function, but I doubt that would do it because I assume the preference is set scriptwide.
    This will work anywhere.
    $global:ProgressPreference='SilentlyContinue'
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Imported photos and got duplicate "original" pictures

I have been reading the forum most of the night and decided that at least I could not find a post that was specific to my issue, please forgive if this is redundant.
I have a new mac like many people and am run iphoto 7.x. created a new photo library the first day I plugged in the new machine. I then connected to my ext HDD where I keep the folders of photos from my old mac. These are the folder and files themselves and not the whole iphoto DB file mentioned in other posts (at least as I understand). I then imported the photos through iphoto to the new library.
The issue I have is that often but not always following the import, I now have one copy of many photos for a given day -- e.g group titled 26 which has 6 photos from Aug 26 2007, and then another copy called Originals from Aug 26 too. The originals group has fewer photos than the other (ie. 26 group) and as I said, not every day has this case.
So the question is why did the import create two groups and copies of the picture? Which pictures can be deleted safely? I do not mind deleting by hand but I do not want to get a week down the road and find out that I should have deleted the other set. The effect is similar to what others have seen -- I went from 7000 pics to 10000 due to the extra copies?

Thanks for the reply and the direction to '08 forum -- my next step should be to learn more about the product. I must have overlooked the category title when I posted. My error.
On your directions -- I actually was archiving the folder structure, from Finder, of my old iphoto '06 onto my backup external HDD and not the 'library' database. I would do a fresh backup but the folder based backup was my approach for about a year now and the current version of that '06 library now has only some of the total photos that I want in my new library -- i.e. I have deleted the old archived picture files. Basically this approach was to deal with limited space on my powerbook (common issue with photos I see from the postings).
Can you recommend how best to accurately bring in photos from the folder structure archive. I am not concerned with the reference data -- rating, captions, etc, I just do not want to duplicate the photos given the mass of space that the extra copies take up. In the end I am cool with manually removing the extras but I just can't figure out which copy to delete or if it matters?

  • Iphoto - export pictures and import in an other mac

is it possible to export pictures which are stored on one mac in the iphoto lib and to import them an an other computer. So that i can manually sync the folders.
Or does any one knows an other way to sync (both directions)
    Thanks

is it possible to export pictures which are stored on one mac in the iphoto lib and to import them an an other computer. So that i can manually sync the folders.
Yes - you just export them from iPhoto on computer 1 - move them to the other computer and import them into iPhoto there
There is no way to sync
If the computers are connected in some way you can use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - -to move photos between the libraries

  • Import weirdness and import dialog box

I'm in the import box and I want to import just the RAW (DNG) files from a folder and not the accompanying JPEGs. First strange thing I notice is that Aperture is telling me that the JPEG files are roughly the same size as the RAw files. I thought I could sort the list by file size, knowing that the RAw files would all be bigger than the JPEGs. Wrong. Aperture is giving me bogus file sizes for the JPEGs. I went to the Finder to double check and, surely enough, the average JPEG file size is about 2.5 megabytes. Aperture has got them listed, on averages, as 15 megabyte files. So I cannot sort by file size.
So, I go down to the sort drop-down menu at the bottom of the Import box and I can only sort by File Name, File Size, or Image Date; the Custom is greyed out. How do I access the "Custom" sort feature in the Import Dialog box? And why is Aperture giving me bogus file sizes for my JPEGs?
Aperture is in sore need of a real update.

jrg_uk has the answer. The list view is often ignored, or just plain forgotten!

  • What could suddenly cause LR 5.7 import menu and import button both dimmed out (Mac OSX)?

Trying to help someone with this situation.  Been using LR 5.7 and importing.  At some point the import capabilities are dimmed out.  Could this be because the moved photos using the Finder rather than moving photos within LR?  Is there a way to recover from this without losing photos?

If items have been moved using Finder, try right-clicking (control-click) on a folder name in the LR Library. Then choose update folder location and navigate to the new location. LR can then update the database links in the catalog.

  • Difference bet. Import manager and Import Server

    Hi
Can anybody tell me what is the difference between a Import Server and a Import Manager? And How data is imported using these two?
    Thanks in advance

    Heii,
    In MDIS :
MDIS can be installed on any machine on a network. It works with the MDM Server to import data automatically into existing MDM repositories. If MDIS and its associated MDM Server are installed on the same machine, no further customization needs to be done. If the MDM Server is located on a separate machine from MDIS, you will need to edit the MDIS settings file, mdis.ini (for more information, see MDIS Configuration).
Before you begin using MDIS, you need to be sure that both MDIS and the MDM Server are running and that the target MDM repository is loaded and running. Directions for starting MDIS are located in this section. Directions for starting the MDM Server and loading a repository can be found in the MDM Console Reference Guide
In case of Import Manger :
The MDM Import Manager is a GUI “cockpit” that defines a very specific sequence of steps to prepare source data for import. But rather than perform the import a record at a time as with other import tools, the MDM Import Manager offers a comprehensive set of data transformation capabilities that allow you to pre-process the source data a field at a time prior to import.
Moreover, for each field, the MDM Import Manager collapses the set of all values across the entire set of source records down to the set of distinct values, whose number will usually be dramatically smaller than the total number of records, often by several orders of magnitude.
Field-at-a-time rather than record-at-a-time processing and the distinct value lists of the MDM Import Manager are together the lynchpin of its patent-pending Parametric Import™ technology, which supports the import of electronic source data from any tabular or XML format.
Hope this might help to remove your confusion between Import Manager and MDIS.
Plese reward If you find this useful.

  • Imported photos and got duplicates - how to identify and remove duplicates?

    Hi all,
I am running iPhoto '08 and it has worked very well.
Yesterday, I imported a folder containing photos and I knew that some of the photos already existed in my iPhoto Library. But not concerned, when I know that iPhoto will detect duplicates.
Well, strangely enough, iPhoto did anyway import some of the photos that resultet in me getting in duplicates anyway. The wierd thing though, is that not every "duplicate" was imported. Some of them iPhoto informed med "hey this already exist, want to import anyway?". I choosed that duplicates should not be imported and that should go for all photos that are duplicates.
    Now, my question is:
Is there a way in iPhoto to identify duplicates in the iPhoto Library?
If so, it would be great to be able to remove the duplicates!
Anyone got a solution to my issue?
    Sincerely,
    Andreas

  • How do I create and keep duplicate photo?s?

I wish to create a Duplicate of an individual photo in my iPhoto '11 Library,
When I select a photo, it is highlighted, and I click on Photo>Duplicate, I do not get a duplicate to appear.
When I wanted to do this with iPhoto '08, a duplicate would appear next to the original, and I could then alter ONE of the two.
For instance, I could crop one, and still retain the original in my Photos.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there another step? Could I not be noticing where, if anywhere, that duplicate may appear?

    Never mind - - - I FOUND THEM! Uh, Duh !
