Iphoto import delete

Hi everyone,
So i was recently trying to import the photos from my family's recent vacation to iphoto. there where 3 cameras, so it made 3 event that i was going to merge. well after importing i would always select delete from camera thinking that iphoto had me covered. well after it all imported and i deleted them from my cameras, i went to events in iphoto. I saw that there was only 1 photo in each of the events that i imported!(i selected many more than that when importing) i paniked, because i thought that i had deleted my photos for good, so i got on google, and found something that told me to open iphoto holding option and command, and selecting rebuild iphoto library. well I did this, then went back to events to see if it had worked. well all that did was delete the events imported compleatly. i did not tamper with the iphoto files in the finder or anything. Please someone help me, i had some great photos and videos in there, and i REALY dont want to lose them. i am running iphoto 11 on a 2012 imac.
thanks,
Coleman

You can recover the images from the camera cards with an app like MediaRecover

  • Iphoto import deleting photos

I plugged my camera in my computer to import photos. I clicked delete after importing and began. It went through loading all the pictures and was in the final "completing import" stage when my computer locked up i guess. My spinning color wheel kept running and my computer eventually turned off. When I turned it back on my iphoto opened up and it said i had 34 pictures to import from my camera, those of which i didn't allow to import or delete because they had been imported previously. My computer doesn't have the other photos imported on it anymore, are they lost for good? Is there a way to check my camera card, or restore the old photos either on the camera or my computer? Any advice? Thanks so much for any help.
    I have a Powerbook G$ 15" PowerPC G4 (1.1)

Hi Technology impaired, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Whew, I think we should do this first...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
My computer doesn't have the other photos imported on it anymore, are they lost for good?
It may be possible to recover some erased/missing ones, but you must quit using the Computer immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.
Either boot this one in Target mode...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
And recovering from another Mac, or booting this Mac from another HDD, then using Data Rescue II...
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).
Is there a way to check my camera card, or restore the old photos either on the camera or my computer?
Depending on type of card & format, you might be able to restore the pics on the card using recovery tools on a PC.

  • How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.  I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one.  They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device."  I hadn't touched the camera.  The message came by itself.  I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit.  Opening it back up, the pictures were gone.  Can somebody help me?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I just downloaded 950 photos on iPhoto and deleted them off my camera and now under last import there is only 4 photos and i can't find the others?? There is a whole bunch of blank events in the library with no photos in them all with todays date? Help!!

I just downloaded 950 photos on iPhoto and deleted them off my camera and now under last import there is only 4 photos and i can't find the others?? There is a whole bunch of blank events in the library with no photos in them all with todays date? Help!!

Yes - you need a min of 10 GB just to operate - with just 1 you certainly can lose photos and other critical things - you need to make space immediately - probably by moving your iPhoto library to a volume formatted Mac OS extended -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

I downloaded pics from my camera to iphoto on my macbook pro and forgot to click 'import all. Then i closed iphoto and deleted the pics from the camera. i know I'm screwed, but i'll give this a try, is there any way to retireve these pics?

  • How do I delete photos on the IPhoto import pane that I DO NOT want to import?

How do I delete photos on the IPhoto import pane that I DO NOT want to import?

    your question is not clear
if you want to delete unimported photos you can not using iPhoto -image capture can and youcan do it on yoru IOS device or yoru camera
If you want to import only select items and you have a current version of iPhoto then you select the ones you want and use the import selected cuttom
a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • IPhoto import Browser failure, after security update?

Hi, Anyone else had this problem?
    iPhoto import Browser failure.
No Events or Albums show, although PhotoBooth is visible, error message 'Open iPhoto 5 or later to see photos...'
This used to work, but not since installing Security Update 2010-006 (1.0),
    with "iTunes" (10.0.1) and JavaForMacOSX10.6Update3.
    Using iPhoto '09 (8.1.2), iMovie '09 (8.0.6).
Heard mention that now only alpha-numeric characters are allowed for file names and titles, so started replacing "&", apostrophes, etc. But there are a LOT of photos to change!
    Console shows:
    [0x0-0x15015].com.apple.iPhoto[264]
    MRMovieServer[273] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure
Tried repairing permissions, but got a warning about a SUID file has been modified and will not be repaired, (not sure if this is relevant).
Removed com.apple.iApps.plist and com.apple.iMovie8.plist, which then gave a slightly different view of the browser in iMovie.
Can no longer drag items from iPhoto either!
Any ideas of how to proceed (and remain sane)?

    Hi,
I've had something like this, since October.
Firstly, In the Utilities folder, open Disk Utility, select the disk where the Applications are (Main hard disk) click First Aid, then "Repair Permissions". Leave it running with nothing else open.
When finished, open iMovie, click the photo browser icon, any luck?
Seen an Apple support doc 'Cannot see iPhoto in other Apps', basically you may be right about ampersands & apostrophes.
In iPhoto, look at all your smart album names for non-alpha-numeric characters, and replace or delete the possible culprits. I had lots of these, including brackets (which were not a problem until recently). Keep checking your smart albums to find others, such as these: !@£$%^&()[]{}'\"|~.
Quit iPhoto and all other iLife Apps, then in your home folder, Library, Preferences, move 'com.apple.iApps.plist' to the desktop (this will be recreated when you next open an iApp/iLife application, such as iPhoto).
You may need to remake the iPhoto AlbumData.xml file, after all that name editing. See later.
Open iMovie and click the photo browser icon, if you still get the message, rather than Albums and Events, Quit iMovie.
Open iPhoto, double check your source list for folders which you may have smart albums in, (click the triangle to the left of any folders that you've made to reveal their contents). Repeat the search and replace of special characters. I'd missed a few, hiding in folders.
Now would be a good time to remake the iPhoto 'AlbumData.xml' file.
Quit all applications, go to your Pictures folder, iPhoto Library, ctrl-click, 'Show package contents', drag 'AlbumData.xml' to the desktop.
    Close the finder windows.
Open iPhoto, create a new album, then Quit, (this should remake the xml file).
Open iMovie again and click the photo browser icon. This is the point where I had success, I hope it works for you as well.
    All the best, Ian

  • IPhoto 08 - Loosing photos, iPhoto automatically deletes from hard drive!

    Hi,
    I am using iPhoto 08 v 7.1.5 on Max OS X 10.6.4
We are 2 users sharing the same iPhoto library and after ongoing issues with permissions I have moved the iPhoto library (as per Apple's instructions) to a Sparse Disk Image on the Shared folder and changed the permissions for all to rear&write - then copied the library to this Disk Image and pointed all iPhoto libraries there.
Worked well until we started to import photos from a camera. From my profile it imported the photos, but then when copying them to the library come up with an error 'File is corrupt'. I started iPhoto in shift&option mode and repaired permissions. This fixed it and I could import.
The other user imported photos yesterday from their profile. No errors on import and the photos were property loaded into the library. I did check the library AND the files in the Finder - all was well. 2 hours later, ALL FILES HAD GONE!!! There were no trace of the files. Not in the trash (iPhoto or System) - I searched the whole drive, GONE!!!
I am a bit freaked, if iPhoto is going to delete files permanently from the drive its NOT good. The photos were already deleted from the camera so they are gone for good.
Has anyone experienced the same or got an explanation??
    Appreciate any help with this!
    Cheers
    Chris

I've seen this mentioned on here a couple of times. Tracing it with these other users what seems to occur is that iPhoto imports the photos to the database but fails to copy the actual files into the Originals folder.
I'm not sure why this happens.
If you haven't used the camera since you can recover the files from the card with an app like MediaRecover

  • IPhoto import to A3 - Faces is now Shoulders or Elbows??

    .
After importing my iPhoto library, I noticed that my Faces are no longer Faces, but Elbows, Shoulders, Tummies, Etc......
Now, I can't see some of my Faces and it wants me to name Hands, Sky and Tummies?? Anyone else have this issue with your iPhoto import.
    What I've tried so far:
1)I deleted everything and imported again (same issue).
2)I created a new Admin user, created a new A3 library and put it on a different drive, then imported my iPhoto library again (same issue)
3)The issue is happening to the same people each time.
4)I repaired Permissions from System Disk
5)I ran Disk Repair from System Disk
6)No....I did not wipe out my computer and do a fresh install of the OS. Why does everyone have to do this? And if this is done, if you port over all your programs and settings from Time Machine, aren't you just porting over all the same issues. So to keep from porting your issues, you have to painstakingly reinstall ALL your software? Sorry, but NO, that is just too much work. I'm not retired.....yet.
I did a search and couldn't find anyone with this issue.
    Narvon

I'm seeing the same thing with some of my photos. Certainly not all of them, though. What I've been doing is removing those shots from the grouping of a certain person, and ignoring them when it shows them to me as an unnamed face. It seems the offset within the photo got mangled, somehow, as the person in question is in the photos with this problem (I can tell by distinctive clothing, sometime). I've wondered if it might be related to cropped photos, with the face box position calculated from the origin of the original photo or the crop, and Aperture getting confused over which to use.
I haven't yet found the "not a face" and "add a face" method in Aperture, that iPhoto has, but I haven't really looked for it, yet, either.

  • HT4927 all my pictures in iPhoto got deleted and i don't know how to get them back so could anyone help me with that ??

all my pictures in iPhoto got deleted and i don't know how to get them back so could anyone help me with that ??

We do need more information to help. Are the images gone from your iPhoto library, or is the iPhoto Library missing? How and when did this happen?
If images are missing from the library: Did you check for hidden photos? Did you check the iPhoto Trash?
If the pictures are still in the iPhoto Trash, open the Trash, select the images and and press the liitle arrow in the lower right corner - select "Put back".
If the pictures are still in an "iPhoto" folder in the system Trash (with sub folders named by date), import these folders to your iPhoto library.
Have you checked, if you have opened the correct iPhoto Library? Launch iPhoto with the options key held down, to select another Library.
If the entire Library is missing, have you searched for ".photolibrary" with spotlight?
    Do have a backup?
If none of these easy measures helps, report back with more details - your iPhoto version, and anything else that might be helpful to find out, what the problem is. Don't do anything that changes the contents of your hard drive for now.

  • Iphoto import created hundreds of empty events

I used the iPhoto import plug-in to import a library of about 15,000 photos.  I can see albums and events, but there are hundreds of events, most of which have no photos that are named sequentially _1, _1_2, _1_2_3, etc ( there are also many events with proper names).  I just tried renaming one of the events with photos, and Lightroom is running very slowly; it has shown a spinning ball for about 5 minutes and has not completed renaming the event.  Since these are collections, deleting them should not cause any loss of photos, but I'm wondering if there is a better way to clean up these events.
    Thanks for your suggestions.
    Larry

I'm having this very same problem.
iPhoto Events which were named are coming into LR with names intact.  However, events which were unnamed (and displayed in iPhoto as a date) appear in LR with names as described above.
Some of the "Events" albums show up with no photos in them as well.
    Seeking solutions...
    - Perhaps there's a way to automate renaming of these LR Collections based on photo-taken date metadata.

  • Is it possible to allow iphoto to delete fotos from the finder? (when iphoto doesnt copy the fotos into an own library)

Is it possible to allow iphoto to delete fotos from the finder? (when iphoto doesnt copy the fotos into an own library)

No  -- iPhoto does not ever touch an photo file that is not within its database
THis is one (of the minior) resaons that it is very strongly advised not to uncheck the preference to copy imported items to the iPhoto library - it makes importing and deleting more difficult and makes upgrading or replacing defective hardware much, much more difficult

Apple's Icloud with Yosemite and IOS8 on devices is suppose to do just that - synchronize between devices so when you get home the pictures you took with our devices will magically be on you primary computer.
You may also want to look into other "clouds" available -- including clouds you can set up yourself (WD offers make your own cloud - haven't looked into it as don't need it)
Thanks for the constructive feedback! iCloud sync generally works well, though I believe it's time-limited-- You'll have to import them to your library from the iCloud sync to make it "permanent" within a few months.  I'm also using CloudStation on my Synology NAS, and I use Dropbox on all my computers although not for photos, because I'm still using their free account. Keeping iPhoto libraries up to date is not generally an issue.  Though I admit 2 of my 3 computers are on Yosemite and I am using iOS 8, I haven't specifically explored the differences in iCloud behavior on the new versions.
The deleting comment is more around temporarily storing them in one iPhoto library, uploading to Facebook, then deleting from iPhoto without deleting from FB -- it's not so much about how to transfer the photos around.  It's pretty easy to shoot 15 or 20GB of photos in a day with a modern camera, and you might find yourself without an internet connection, or at the very least, too spotty to copy that much data overnight.
For example, on a recent trip, my workflow was to load photos from my RX-100 via SD card into my MacBook Air which only has 128GB of storage.
So I'd copy all photos to iPhoto, flag favorites, edit, add to FB album in iPhoto, let that upload, then export to disk, let that sync to my CloudStation folder back on my NAS at home in the US, then finally delete all un-flagged photos in iPhoto (the "rejects"). By the end of the trip, even the 15GB of all of the flagged, edited photos took up too much space (in addition to all of the originals I was storing on disk), so I deleted the Facebook sync so I that was able to delete them from iPhoto.
Of course, I kept all my originals, but those were in 3 places: SD card, CloudStation folder on my Air, and on my NAS back at home (plus any devices that were powered on and syncing to CloudStation).
This worked great in Iceland where I had 50up/50down internet, but not so great at an agriturismo in Italy where I was getting something like 50% packet loss on their point-to-point wifi internet connection!
When I get home, every single original picture goes onto my master iPhoto library on the Mac Pro at home, but I treat the libraries on my laptops as transient places for editing and uploading, then deleting.  This is not just a multiple-computer problem, though -- I am sure many users just wish to upload then delete, and never keep their originals.

  • Iphoto crashed, deleted pictures from camera

Iphoto just deleted all of the pictures from my camera, without importing them. These are my honeymoon pics, any ideas on how to recover them?

A data recovery program like media recover - http://freshcrop.com/
And in the future never have iPhoto (or any computer program files- import them and test them (I wait for at least one backup cycle) and then use your camera's format command to reformat the card and erase it
