Iphoto import: invalid library
Hi!
I'm trying to import iPhoto (upon was installed Aperture, but the library is iPhoto) in Lightroom with the new plugin.
However it doesn't recognize the library.iphoto as valid.
Lightroom is installed on a Windows (with bootcamp) and the library is on an external harddrive HFS+.
How can I import my 350GB of photos and videos to lightroom?

If rebuilding the Library with iPhoto's own tools didn't work try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Unable to Import to IPhoto-Import to Library not showing up
I am unable to Import my photo's to IPhoto. I've done it before but now when I am in Adobe Photo Shop CS5 or trying to Import directly from the Finder (Preview) the Import to Library no longer is showing up. I've shut down Adobe CS5, Lightroom and can't figure out why I still can't access it..Any help would be appreciated!
Are you sure you've set up Home Sharing and not vanilla Sharing which is different?

Iphoto crashes when importing to library
I can import photos from cameras and iphone no problem but whenever i try to import from a memory stick using 'File - import to library' iphoto crashes. I cannot find 3ivx file/folder on my computer which was suggested may cause the problem. Any ideas? The crash report is below.

2 - delete the contents the following folder:

3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library? It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library. I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one. They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device." I hadn't touched the camera. The message came by itself. I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit. Opening it back up, the pictures were gone. Can somebody help me?
What version of iPhoto are you running? Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

iPhoto 11 doesn't show the photos that I just imported from an SD card, but says its importing to library 15 min after SD card is removed. The import seemed to start normally, I went to mail to check messages, came back to iPhoto & the usual prompt about wanting to delete the photos on the card never came up. The photos didn't show up in events or the library & the device icon wasn't showing so I tried to import again. A prompt then came up saying that I needed to wait until the import was done!
Hi, this problem is also happening to me also. I just took some pics of my daughter on my nikon d3100 and imported them from SD card to iPhoto. It says 'preparing to import' but during the process i do not see the photos being imported. After it was done, there was a new event album, i clicked opend it to see my photos but all of them were blank. I forced quit and re-launched iPhoto but it didnt work, i even re-imported, not to no avail.. Please help. Earlly 2011 13' MacBook pro 10.7.2

I imported to library in iPhoto and now have an album called com.apple.iLifeMediaBrowser which contains a lot of pics that were deleted plus a bunch of other pics......How do I move pics from this album to their original album???

I am so tired of iphoto crashing, losing work I've done. I want to switch to photoshop elements 10 but need to know if it uses the iphoto library or if I can import that library into elements
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired. -
Import iPhoto6 library (Panther) to iPhoto 8 (Leopard)

Sorry if this is a redundant posting, I've searched through the forum and am still not clear how to achieve the following:
I previously used iPhoto 6 on my iMac with Panther and the photo library was kept entirely on an external hard drive. I just purchased a Macbook Pro with Leopard and want to import my iPhoto 6 library into iPhoto 8 and move all of the photos from my external drive onto the Macbook Pro's hard drive. Reason is that my iMac ran out of space but now I have plenty of room on my MBP hard drive. One important detail may be that I can no longer boot up my iMac as I have done a very stupid thing and fried the power supply. However I can mount the iMac drive via USB to my Macbook Pro to transfer any files necessary.

No - the iPhoto library has all the data and the install did everything else
And when you say copy the iPhoto Library, you literally mean, the entire library including all the folders with the photos from my external hard drive?
Yes - you want the entire iPhoto library in you pictures folder - when you launch iPhoto it will upgrade the old library to the new format - then import your newer photos (It sounds likeyou have them ready for that - if you did not you should export them from your new iPhoto library BEFORE you overwrite it with your old one)
However, this led me to see one big difference in the iPhoto 8 Picture Folder and the iPhoto 6 Photo Library folder - namely, there are no folders in the Picture folder with the actual photos. There's only one file, called Photo Library and when you click on that, it opens iPhoto 8. So this begs the question, where are the photo files stored in Leopard?
The photos are all in the iPhoto Library -- you can inspect the contents by right clicking (control click on a one button mouse) and select show package contents -- BUT do NOT change anything in the package or you risk losing everything.

IPhoto 11 Crash After iPhone Photos Import Corrupted Library, Cause?
Mountain Lion on MacBook Pro, iPhoto 11 v9.3.2, launched fine. Connected iPhone. Transferred 17 photos fine. Chose Delete Photos from iPhone. It crashed.
Relaunched to read that there were inconstencies in the library.... took several long stressful minutes as it "repaired" the database. No idea why it happened, or what long term impact will be. Faces spinning wheel is still going on, so no idea if that means having to painfully re-add/remove/change names from faces on thousands of pics.. Meantime, Console shows this, if it helps locate the problem or others have it too.... Thanks.

After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) originally sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo back into my iPhoto library. The
"Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case until the latest PE13 update (Camera Raw Version 8.7.1.311). What needs to be done
to reimport edited photos back into my iPhoto library? Ideas?Launch PSE Expert Mode and go to:
Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> Saving Files (tab)
Set the drop-down dialog
On First Save : Save Over Current File
Click OK.
When you have finished editing in PSE use Cmd+S to save (not Save As) -
I can not find File "Import to Library" in iPhoto.
I can not find File> "Import to Library" in iPhoto.
Nevermind. After I sent this I found it in the File on the banner tab at the top of my screen.

How to import old library in iPhoto
I had and oler version of iPhoto. Now when i try to open my old library it own't open form the newere version.
What happens when you try?
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess. -
I imported my photos from iPhoto to the library and now I can not find them, what I can do to to get them back?

What versionn of iPhoto? Of the OS? what exactly did you do and how exactly did you import? what happens? are they in the Last Import list? What is the source fo the photos? What else can you tell us?

Hi all,
Based on the article here (Designate a System Photo Library in Photos - Apple Support) has anyone tried to bring both an iPhoto and Aperture library into iCloud Photo Library so that both libraries are available as one in iCloud and form the one Photos app library rather than being seen as separate libraries. I don't want the two separated as I have 200GB's of space in iCloud which is plenty to hold the two's collective space of about 40GB's.
It seems as though the procedure is pretty simple.
First of all set one of your libraries as the System Photo Library, this will happen naturally with setting up Photos app for the first time. I chose iPhoto as the original library.
Let this library upload all it's photo's to iCloud over a few minutes, hours, days etc.
When finished, enter your other library by closing Photos app and reopening while holding down the Option key (usually Alt). In this case I now opened the Aperture library that it had found.
Under Preferences > iCloud set this library as the System Photo Library and in turn it will have the ability to upload to iCloud.
When it's finished I suppose you will have both iPhoto AND Aperture pictures in the one iCloud Photo Library.
At least I hope the above makes sense.

That bit seems clear. You can merge photos from different libraries by making them 'designated' first .
BUT this means that Photos app only shows you library A , or library B, depending on which one you have opened , but Icloud library contains photos from Both library A and library B .
is this correct ?
and if so, does it not get a but confusing ?!? -
Used to be that when I had a mix of photos and AVI videos, the upload brought both and it was an easy copy to get at the videos.
Now, since '08 (version 7.1.1), after the upload, I get a list of AVI files and even some IMG files withe the statement that iPhoto found invalid files. If I use the old version, it works as it has for years.
Any solutions to this?How much free space do you have on your hard drive?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
